As a writer, teacher, and librarian, the last segment killed me. I'm listening to an audiobook and reading another. I'm usually reading multiple books at one time. Reading creates empathy, which enhances listening and critical thinking skills. This country needs it.

The last book I read was Strongmen by Ruth Ben-Ghiat and it was so terrifying that I am reading it again.

This explains so much of what I see in my classroom. Kids hate to read. Why? Because they learn it from their parents. So sad. People - read a book, especially in front of your children. They see everything you do, may as well make them good examples!!!

Sadly, only a few people are reading these days, and someone asked me to change my content. Your message encourages me to continue. Some books I am reading this month include Red shoes by Ebony Glenn, Freedom by Jaycee Dugard, The Woman Next Door by Yewande Omotoso, Martin va a l'Ecole by David Melling, and Bright Brown Baby by Andrea Davis Pinkney.

I love to read. The last several years I've had difficulty focusing to read. I think stress and over stimulation have much to do with it. I've found audiobooks to be a savior. I receive the full text and story as well as some theatrical emphasis from the reader. It allows me to listen while I cook, do chores and especially on long quiet drives. It can also relax me at bedtime. The only problem is that when someone asks the name of the book I forget because it's not in front of me every time I engage. I remember the stories though.
Yeah, I used to be a voracious reader but suffering from major depression has made it very difficult to concentrate and sapped the joy out of it. These days it’s just too much mental effort. Curse you, depression. 😔

If you enjoy historical fiction I recently listened to one called "The giver of Stars". It was very uplifting and empowering for Women. The historical aspect was really interesting. It’s set in Victorian Britain and is a twisty cracker - as evidenced by the fact I actually read it all!
I hope you can get back to reading more too. Getting into in a good book is such a pure pleasure, and it’s horrible to be robbed of that. Stress and depression go hand-in-hand and they definitely impacts one’s ability to concentrate and invest, so I truly empathise. Thank you for thinking of me, and I will think of you too.
