Good video. Is that fluid film on the frame? And is that valve body location over the def tank factory? Thanks.

The coating on the frame is nh oil undercoating. I believe it has fluid film and something else in it. It doesn’t really dry and I get it all over my clothes and head. This is the first year we used it but it seems to do a good job of protecting the underside, it’s just messy. The valve body bracket is welded to the bump body sub frame. It’s not a factory dump body. The trucks are purchased through a company that buys the cab an chassis with out a bed. They outfit the vehicle with there part of the build and then send it out to another company to put the dump body on and the hydraulic system and plows and such. Then the first company that we bought the truck through gets it back and we pick it up from them when it’s done. I’ve had to change another one since this one and I have the same issue with the valve body being in the way. One of the trucks we have has the def tank mounted to the outside of the passenger side frame with perfect access. That one will be easy to change when I need to. There a pretty common failure item

@@JasonTheMunicipalMechanic Rhomar Industries makes a product called Armour-Seal, it's great! We used fluid film on our fleet and I could never stand the wet and dirty outcome, this armour seal stuff drys and looks almost like bed liner. Thanks for the video, I've yet to do this repair but your help is giving me the courage to dive in.

Jon Holt I’ll have to look into that armour seal, thank you for suggesting it. I’ve been using what I call my dirty coat when I have to get close to the frames. Lol. It really just one coat I’ve deemed a lost cause for clean. When you get a new heater sender unit the dealer told me the cab and chassis models were different than the regular pickups. Whether they are or not I’m not sure. Thanks for watching.

Ford wants $456 compared to cheap ones at $168

Sure. Personally I don’t use cheap parts if I can help it. 90% of the time they don’t last long. Some times they do though. I’ve gone on eBay with the dealer numbers before and got dealer parts hundreds of dollars off for the same part so I try that before I settle on the part I purchase. The town gets that tank sender for around 300, we get discounts for being a municipality.

I looked on eBay and found a factory one for 309. Cab and chassis are different from the pick up so I’d use the part number if you have it.
