    P0014 is an exhaust camshaft position sensor signal fault. There are two of these sensors (inlet and exhaust) at the top of the engine; very easy to change and not expensive.
    The part that you removed is the variable valve timing solenoid (VVT).

    • @mrfxr1695
      @mrfxr1695  8 месяцев назад +2

      P0014 shows fault/issue with exhaust camshaft position and it is not necessarily sensor's fault. The way it works is as following.
      Sensor registers the position/angle of camshaft and sends the signal to ECU. ECU commands the solenoid valve to actuate, which should correct camshaft position. Sensor picks up new position and sends signal to ECU. Then ECU adjust command to solenoid as and when necessary, depending on some other sensors around engine). The whole process happens continuously every time engine runs.
      If ECU receives signal about bad camshaft position and throws a code there are two possibilities.
      1/ 99% times it is a solenoid valve issue and it's unable to correct camshaft position
      2/ extremely really is a sensor issue, on the way that sends corrupt signal to ECU
      Most of issues happen when inaccurate engine oil is used or there are too large intervals between oil changes and it causes solenoid valve to get stuck.
      If after clearing solenoid valve, performing an oil change and clearing engine code the issue doesn't return process that fault wasn't within sensor itself.
      Solenoid valve can be checked for operation during cleaning ( it either works or not)
      If valve operates well, and with cleaning enginee code doesn't resolve , then sensor would be the suspect
      I hope it clarifies
      All the best 👍

      @mrfxr1695 Hi. I recently bought the car, and they said it had a full service history. However, it turns out its part service history. It hasn't had a service for 27k miles, which isn't great.
      I have changed the air filter and also the cabin filter. The fuel filter is a fuel filter for life. I will also fit new spark plugs. It is going in next week to have a service; oil change and filter etc.
      I did actually remove the VVT solenoid (exhaust side), and cleaned it. I didn't test it's operation though. I have ordered 2 new camshaft position sensors regardless as they are relatively cheap and easy to fit. I will also order 2 new VVT solenoids if needs be as the car is 13 years old.

    • @stuartmcmillan7075
      @stuartmcmillan7075 8 месяцев назад

      @mrfxr1695 when you look at a replacement VVT solenoid, it appears that they have changed the design. The solenoid on my car (and yours) only has one filter ring. The newer solenoids all have 3 filter rings. I'm sure they will be fine as the dimensions are same.

    i recently had the timing belt and sump cleaned and the engine light was not removed. Could error P0014 be related to the work done relating to this work done which was supposed to resolve errors P15A8 at all? Is the work the mechanic carried out incomplete?

    • @mrfxr1695
      @mrfxr1695  11 месяцев назад

      I'm not sure to be honest. I beleive you mean timing chain and sump. What was the reason for cleaning it? These engines have variable timing and P0014 refers to exhaust cam shaft solenoid valve that is using engine oil to operate . Dirty oil or wrong viscosity can often cause this issue. The best would be to speak to your mechanic and see. It might just be a coincidence
