- ( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2014 Audi Q5 TDI Quattro is a diesel torque monster. With 240 HP but with 428lb-ft of toque the Audi will accelerate like a freight train. Perhaps what's even more astounding is the fact that the 2014 Audi Q5 TDI will get a combined 27 MPG and 31 on the highway. In another accurate, fun and informative TFLcar review Nathan and Roman test drive the newest 2014 Audi Q5 TDI Quattro. And since this is TFcar, they also see how fast the diesel Audi will go from 0-60 MPH at a mile above sea level.

I own a 2010 Q5 3.2 and absolutely love this car!! I have less than a year to pay it off so no TDI for me. It still drives like new and I still get compliments! I test drove the Caddy SRX and almost went for it but had to go with the German blood and I'm glad I did. These car review guys are great!!
Nice review. Thank you for it. Wish there was no talking during 0-60 so I could hear the engine better.
Hey Roman, in europe you can also get V10 and V12 TDI diesels. Try this torque.
Very nice! I love the sound of that TDI! Audi has it down when it comes to diesels. The whole vehicle looks great as well.
Thanks for leaving this video up. I'm considering a 2014 Q5 TDI Premium Plus Quattro to replace my 2013 4Runner SR5 Premium. It looks like I'll gain 12mpg or so.
tickets? tickets? tickets? curses!! lmao, love it!! you guys are awesome, great video and review too
VW and Audi Diesels rule!
Except in the US where they make legislation specifically against them.
Argument: 15 million diesel trucks are fine. Cummings engine on pickups is fine.
They must be polluting a different atmosphere.
Another nice review, thanks!. Watching how you folks launch cars, I wonder if rolling rather than stomping the accelerator would provide better results? Many emission controlled vehicles I've driven recently hesitate when the accelerator's stomped to the floor (ECU seems confused and takes a second or so to sort itself out), while rolling the throttle (1/4 - 1/2 sec from start to floor) seems to let ECU figure things out on the fly and provide more acceleration.
Glad you guys check the back seat. I have to tote adults around for long trips every so often, and having a reasonably comfortable back seat is one of my weird criteria when looking at cars.
If that was a weird criteria the majority of cars would be two seaters. I actually sit behind my self in every car I have been test driving for the same reason as you and one of my occasional passengers is 6'3".

I guess "weird" is the wrong word to use. "Often overlooked" might be a bit more apt. Most reviewers skim over it without giving it any perspective; they just say "roomy" or "cramped".
Does it having a timing chain or belt? I was looking at a 2011. Which one does that have.
Do you will make a test about the Audi Q7 ?
you guys annoy the hell out of me, and yet, you produce more vids of more vehicles than anyone else...
Could you take a Q5 put bigger off road wheels and a full under body steel skidplate on it and use it for some off road?
How would it compare to your Touareg? (the one you love so much that is still missing some TLC skidplate)
can you do a TDI comparison of the other Vehicles in its segment ? BMW 28d, BENZ Glk BlueTec, etc
Could you please review the Bmw 428i?
great review, great car
Are you guys going to get your hands on the SQ5?
I look forward to your F1 coverage...
beautiful !
How do you open the back in a garage without hitting the ceiling or in my case the rolled up garage door
Some garages have pretty high ceilings...mine does for example. .but I see your point. Most garages aren't that tall... I wonder if one could limit the height the rear door opens up too.
And when do we see the off road test? For a mashup how about the Jeep Grand Cherokee TDI, VW Touarag TDI, VS the GLK or ML. I would take the Jeep first as a fully loaded Jeep is about the same price as the Q5
can review cadillac cts vsport 2014
the north american public has really started wanting diesel's now a days, gotta love working in the trade working on them should be fun
Touareg was 5 litre V10 turbo diesel. Never seen any other diesel except the v6 3.0 td
What about the sq5?
Good car! TDI is good as well.
@Richard R - They're pretty clean actually. And in long term they're still more ecological than hybrid/electric cars which have tons of toxic materials.
Diesel is king over here
The toureg that has the V6 and V8 also has a V10 my neighbour had one in UK at least think was a 5.0L but not 100%
I wish they still had the big twin turbo TDI V10.
which better the audi q5 gas engine 2.0T or range rover Evoque gas engine 2.0T ??
Do a Q7 review please!
Do a Q7 test
No more emie hall?
nice review, fun to listen price that u tell about the car, 51 000$ something to begin, in Finland it is 72 000 euro , about ( 90 000$ ) and if adding some options , we talk 100 000$ car here.... so top model with most of the options would be some like 134 000$ ;-) nice...
Im. Weighing up the 2014 v8 diesel touareg or the diesel Audi sq5
Roman were you in S, vs D? Those shift points were comically conservative.
Diesel engines don't make much power at red line to they tend to shift early to stay in the power range.
TDI just simply the best! enough said!
that Jethro tull shirt :)
perfect daily driver
You guys should do a matchup with this car and the Mercedes- Benz ML350 BlueTec, or the Mercedes-Benz GLK250 BlueTec. Which ever one competes with the Q5.
I agree. I'm still waiting for a GLK250 review.
I drove both, Q5 TDI and the GLK250 BlueTEC, last week. Q5 TDI wins, hands down! I didn't even feel I was driving a diesel, it's so quiet inside. I even like the looks, interior and exterior. The GLK seems a bit longer, for parking in cities, that could be a problem.
V.A.G. Diesels seem great because V.A.G. gasoline engines have major reliability and durability issues. Direct, the largest aftermarket warranty company in the UK, released their engine reliability rankings last year and both VW & Audi were ranked in their bottom 10 for engine reliability.
Welcome to the holy grail. Welcome to F1:)
First car you can't say anything bad about #finally
I would go for diesels too, but if temperature drops below -30C/-22F in the winter time, you have to use special winter diesel and even that sometimes gets too solid for the engines (and engine has trouble heating up in short city drive) ... well there goes that idea :( ...
Would definitely use it in warmer climates though, that torque has no match.
jesus, do you live in Antarctica? where does it get that cold?
Insert-name-here Estonia , in Northern-Eastern Europe (i guess pretty much the same goes for Canada and Alaska, it gets really cold in the winter).
It doesn't even have to be that cold before a modern TD needs additional help with the heating..
I want to see how this compares to the Porsche Macan Turbo when that is available, since they are built on the same platform. The Porsche is supposed to be around 400hp. Or even better, Macan Turbo vs. SQ5.
hey guys you should do a review of your personal car
Good luck getting a diesel to warm your cabin up during winter months
In the EU this is a pretty big engine for us. 3.0 L TDI costs a lot in taxes here, this model comes in the EU with a 2.0 L TDI with 143 hp, it does 5l/100km - 56 mpg. You tend to forget the fuel station. USA looks at these diesel engines like a new tech, in here its old tech :). Usually more than 60% of the cars are diesels.
Audi q5 is the best!
These guys saw Top Gear.
What the heck was that three wheel car at the begining! :O XD
What's sad today is that you can't pick your options anymore. All I wanted was the Bang & Olufsen stereo in my Q5 and no no you have to get every other option for that to happen.
+mrmanitoba Would you buy a used one?
That is the plan.
+mrmanitoba Olufsen is old. You need to get Gastorphan & Pantertoon. Much better.
What? No test of the Q7 TDI?
I agree Audi interiors are getting old. My mom had an 09 and now a '13 Q5, and it's too much of the same. It's not as bold as the new MB interior language.
Yeah I like the interior of the GLK better, but this car performs better. So there's pros and cons
jedwalker10 The interior of the GLK is gross. Column gear shifter? The numbers on the dash from the 80's... and the infotainment system is needlessly complicated.
In Los Angeles, 91 gas is about $4.50, diesel is only $3.99, any company sells diesel cars will make more money at least in CA
like torque try the V12 TDI in the Q7
You guys show open the sunroofs all the way and show people
Love the idea of diesel on paper, but I can't get past seeing so many new white audi/vw diesels with soot covered rearends. Diesels are cleaner than they used to be, but they still aren't clean.
Wash your car
Nathan should be a standard unit of measure for cargo space.
Indeed! This trunk is 1.2 Nathan's Meters!
We used to get the V10 TDI but low take rates killed it. Look for video of a v10 toureg towing airplanes
is it a Q7 v12 towing a airpplane? im just asking because i saw it on youtube..
Yup, the old Touareg was available with a V10 TDI (and also a W12 petrol). But from what I can see on wikipedia, the new V8 TDI actually has more hp/torque. The Touareg/plane video is here: /watch?v=h6FBAP4HnFw
GLK250 Bluetec review please!
Nissan has already made a V8 diesel engine for the Titan, which should start selling soon. For towing on the highway, it is a much wiser choice, especially with higher torque.
You should check BMW M550xd if you want an insane diesel!
A6 BiTDI is just as fast as this M550xd.
2015 Audi A3/S3 video test drive..
Make it happen..
Only $ 52 grand ? So freaking cheap ! Over here in my country, it cost $100 grand for this car !
"do not press gas pedal when vehicle is stationary" ... haha
But it got a good 0-60 time :)
51 000? Its worth it when you can say "i drive an audi"
Here in 2020 post diesel gate and during an era of covid.
Nathan slappin that ass! Lol
I wonder if you could tell me which one you would prefer: Q5 TDI or Q5 V6 gas?
that is not even a question !Q5 TDI all the way
08:20 for 0-60 test
imagine that engine in an A4
Remember diesel engines always come vs DPF system which will always create problem
I run away when i see DPF system
I brought my first diesel, a Merc C220 cdi not realising it has a DPF, until it choked. I learnt late about regenerating the PDF regularly. And, in NZ it is illegal to remove the DPF if the vehicle came fitted with one.
I think everyone loves diesels here, we just don't appreciate the added cost of the diesel option from the factory.
I noticed that the bald guys terminology is very mathematical. Is he an engineer?
Richard r define clean cause by a environmental stand point diesels burn more complete than gas soot is just carbon
the touareg comes with 2 more engins v10 and v12 tdi the audi q7 2
There is no V10 in current Touareg.
Dream car for van life. Wanna donate me it?
xaxaxaxaxa finaly Americans found the DIESEL
Arhtus S - It's the same car so it's the same 5 year old design, what did you expect? New MB interior language isn't bold because it's new!
0:12 Toua-reg, not Toua-rag...
Audi Sure make a good looking vehicle. ( But that's it !!!!! ) I have owned 3 in my life. ( Nothing but money Pitts !!!!! ) Reliability is not a word Audi knows anything about.. Follow scheduled sevice and the engine will still blow itself.
wait till you have to buy a DPF, then it's tears before bed time
i love Audi but i dunno why i don't like to see American version u can see different stuff on body unlike Europe version u feel luxuriant more
Diesel gate happened a year later lol
Nissan hasn't made a V8 diesel for their new Titans. Cummins made them a new 5.0L straight 6.
The new Cummins 5.0L ISV diesel is a V8 not a straight 6.
i would love to own a diesel, but not at every gas station and its more expensive than regular gas
*****
yeah it sucks :(
Volvo xc60 produce 304hp and 440Nm torque !
gl...........k
nice review... and that car in white sucks
These things haul ass
I love diesel vehicles. Mainly because it's the cheapest fuel in Trinidad and Tobago. ;)
BMW's 3 litre, bi- and triturbo inline six diesel engines are better than Audis!
In what way?
inline six engines are simply better because of their mechanical layout and balance. a longer and heavier crankshaft also means higher inertia and rev-happiness.
ThePianistDE Klavier (orig. PianoandCarcrack94) A heavier crankshaft requires more power and torque to rotate, thus reducing fuel economy, and more of a risk for "crank whip". If you want inertia, change out the flywheel, also, the specs'll tell you the story on both cars for bmw vs audi
boberson33 A heavier crankshaft does not necessarily mean higher fuel consumption. There are way more factors. A V6 cannot keep up with the perfect mechanical balance of an inline 6 engine which doesn't require balance shafts.
ThePianistDE Klavier (orig. PianoandCarcrack94) Somebody's been reading too much Examiner :P . An inline 6 is smoother but in the long run, it's all about on-paper. Of course a tri-turbo is gonna be better, thats completely aside from any engine setup, 3 freaking turbos. It being said, which models are you comparing?
google Audi DPF tutorial to see how they admit that diesels have problems. Diesel is more complex, less reliable. Nathan thinks diesels last longer? Motoring journalists get handed the keys to a new car full of fuel and drive it for a week and then get the next car. Sorry, but this does not qualify you to discuss reliability.
doesn't sound like a diesel
U r so lucky - in Russia q5 3.0tdi comes only with Stronic(DSG) or manual ! First is always broken and u just can't fix it 100%, punchy and crappy. Manuals - not interesting in that type of cars.
A lot of people would love to have a manual option.
Its cause russians cant drive!
I like my 2013 Touareg better...
Why? I’m considering buying a TDI Touareg or TDI Q5. Thank you
this car seems pointless. Not very much room for an suv and you can get the same all wheel drive but with better performance in an a6 diesel. The q7 has alot more function.
joedogg9836 Not everyone needs a gigantic Q7. This car has plenty of purpose...
