Saw them last year. Ray's drumming is like watching a whole other gig within a gig. Reminds of Clem Burke from Blondie. He is playing with the band but is also having a blast just playing his drums. 21st Century Korn is so tight and polished.
Ray is a very, very, rehearsed and timing individual. To those that play drums, you know this. With the tossing and flipping of the sticks, he integrates that time into the timing of his song which is really cool. To the tones of the hi hats, splashes, bells and the rest... adding something special to the time he has before rocking out... he is a great drummer and even harder to follow. What he did for Korn adds up to the same as Eloy Casagrande for Sepultura... a lot more fills and rips... more speed... more life to the art of drumming.
Ray is amazing, simply amazing drummer. His style is interesting, unique. I have only one problem with him.. he sometimes overplays songs. I liked simple, strong groove David had. Korn is still amazing live, though.

Dave was good for his time. I also agree that anyone who says Ray does not groove knows nothing about drumming what so ever. It all just comes down to people wanting the original lineup. I hate to break it to people but with Ray they gained a level of professionalism that they never had before. He is without a doubt one of the most proficient drummers out there today. His skill-set is through the roof.
I have one, bought new 11 years ago and I swapped out the copper shell for a custom segmented construction (not plywood) bubinga shell. Added a 22-strand curly wire strainer. Still have the copper shell put away like new in a box. This is my favorite snare drum. The Pearl free-floater is a great drum. The guy who made the shell doesn't think much of the free-floater, because he feels the aluminum bottom carriage does not allow the resonance of the exotic hardwood to reach the bottom head, but he was happy to make them for me, and I like the sound. One thing I did was get rid of the felt pad that the shell rests on and allow the wood to contact the aluminum directly. The drum sounds great. I also have another custom segmented shell for it made of padauk wood, haven't even got around to trying it yet.
dont get me wrong i like ray, hes a fantastic drummer (better than david) but i feel like ray has a more heavy metal speed drummer in him, where as korn tends to have a more groove metal sound that david really complimented
