Mysterious as in dumb as hell, right? They just threw in whatever mythical or religious artifacts they could remember, like how the mechanic-girl said "this can't be the lost books from the library of Alexandria, can they?" when they were in that library on the island. Anyone with half a brain knows that the meaning of the word "lost" in the context is not "missing" but "DESTROYED", yet the authors actually got confused...seriously, the words "pseudo-intellectual" spring to mind....
I agree that the show is enjoyable early on and then gets less enjoyable the closer to the end it goes. I'm not sure I'd say that the show falls apart as much as it never really puts the parts together to begin with. This show has a lot of good pieces. Putting a likeable, but dumb as a rock protagonist with childlike ideas of what's a good plan in charge of a group of elite warriors, some of them with questionable sanity, sounds like a fun setup. Abel has the setup to be a great villain in the hands of a good writer. The mystery of Eden and Joan of Arc was intriguing when first introduced. The female pirates looked like good sub-villains. The actual mission of the goblin knights causes an interesting problem of who Fena should trust. The problem is, none of the are actually used well. Fena's crazy plans stopped being a thing once her journey begun, no crazy adventures with her elite warrior crew. Abel ended up with no meaningful conflict with neither the heroes, nor any meaningful inner conflicts either, he just got a happy ending because he had a tragic backstory once it was convenient for the writer. Joan of Arc was never explained and Eden mostly served to ruin Fena's character. The female pirates just got offed, unfortunately after the leader turned into a moron, making Abel's victory over them meaningless. The divided loyalty with the goblin knights is easily and quickly resolved, the threat of Kei is simple not dealt with, the show just forgets him until the show is practically over. At the early parts of the show, you see the awesome pieces and imagine how great this will be. Then as the show goes on, the pieces are not really used, they are either discarded or just are there. Nothing leads to any satisfying conclusion.
I felt the same way about the anime it would been better if they did 26 episode instead of 12 and could of help for the writers to double check their work and rewrite a few stuff.
This sounds almost exactly (actually, maybe exactly) like the issue with another original anime from a few years ago, Joran: Princess of Snow and Blood. Like what you’ve said about Fena, Joran has so much going for it, but ultimately never misses the opportunity to punch you in the face with disappointment. “Wait, it turns out the villain wants vengeance as well? Against who?” We never learn. “So, what connection does the MC and her people have to this weird energy source Japan has found?” We never learn. “The MC’s brother is actually alive after a-“ He dies seconds later. “So what exactly is the MC’s power and how does it work?” The credits roll and we never learn. “So, this is an alternate history timeline where Japan has the power to repel the West’s influence thanks to this mysterious energy source? I wonder how things will play out diff-“ They don’t because, I KID YOU NOT, the energy source just dries up in the last episode with no warning. Fena sounds a lot like Joran to me, in that neither miss a chance to punish you for getting invested in them.
My biggest gripe with this show is how they handled the pirates. The captain was built up as the main antagonist but barely had any presence in the story. They had really unique designs and could be potentially interesting characters. But instead they were reduced to sub-villains in favor of Abel, who should have been the sub villain to begin with, and were killed off around halfway through. Seriously, what's the point of calling a show "Fena: pirate princess" if there aren't any pirates in it!?
Totally agree with your opinion of this show. I was ready to give this show a 6.5 or 7 out of 10 until I got through episodes 11 and 12. The story telling and action took a real nose dive there. And did I miss a part where they talked about her hair was unique to her bloodline or powers. I was so surprised when it changed colors cuz while they said it was unique, I didn’t realize it was magic
I just finished this anime and dissapointing is the right word. Only because I was very invested in the characters and mystery, only for the ending to go bat crazy.
I agree with your overview of the plot. It was terribly paced and fell off hard especially with the ending arc. Like you said, there were a lot of things that just didn't feel right. I wouldn't even consider this a pirate anime it was more like a naval adventure i guess. For me the most disappointing was the ending arc where literally nothing made sense and it all felt rushed.
I liked the start it was cool, but the more they dived into the whole mystery magical princess side and where she is like the chosen maiden it just lost me. I was hoping for pirates and samurai etc, not some weird oracle stuff. I don't mind romance, it was cliché but meh, but the magic mysterious oracle stuff ruined it for me. I can't get it out my head either, the ending annoys me that much.
I don't think it's terrible. I've seen worse Anime. This Anime is just okay. It could have been better. Unfortunate that it didn't reach it's full potential.
I personally liked the aesthetic execution, mostly because of the big-ish budget and smooth animation probably, and, to some extent, I liked the bare bones of the series. I honestly think it could have been better with 20 more episodes than it had. They could have fleshed out the romance (which I wouldn't have minded had it been handled better), developed the whole ending plot (the priestess stuff came out of nowhere), and spent more time on backstories and development for the antagonists and supporting characters. Ideally, also made Fena into a protagonist with... actual personality traits. Instead of "mystic chosen one, supremely charming and beautiful, damsel in distress" whose only flaws are being "too irresistible" and mildly childish. I felt while watching it that the writing team had anticipated a longer series and then had to chop off half the plot, and then hastily shoehorn an ending onto the mess. All the buzzwords and pieces that I would have loved to see in a show were there, but there wasn't much substance behind it. I'd honestly give it a 3/10 if only because I genuinely loved the art style and some concepts and sequences it had, but it's all empty calories.
I know it's an older video but just in case, I highly recommend The Eminence in Shadow. A wildly absurd show with some genuinely cool moments that also got plenty of laughs out of me. I think it's a great show definitely worth watching.
i really liked this anime the ending was messy but not as bad as people were saying not every anime is gonna be a masterpiece its orignal and they wanted to tread new waters over all it could have been alot worst its not godly but i can still enjoy it and the vice versa ost i loved so much i added to my music playlist nothing is perfect but at least i can still enjoy it
I just wish the character development that they kept alluding to having fena go through would have actually happened to make herself more independent/useful to the crew. If they did that and didn't try to finish the story in 12 episodes on top of previously said thing this show could be top tier but they just threw away so much. Still my guilty pleasure
After watching the show, The title didnt really fit cuz she wasnt a pirate princess and wasnt even part of any pirate CREW they werent pirates THEY MISLEAD ME I WAS SCAAAMMED
I just now finished the anime. And, it was Fine, but could have been so much better. A lot of the pasting felt both too rushed & too slow. tbh, I feel like I could easily gave not mind most of the issues if they didn’t killed off the secondary antagonist half way. That was the point that it starts to really drag for me, and feel less like a pirate anime, cause they where only characters that actually make this anime feel like a (somewhat fun) Pirate anime
honestly I can agree, I knew it wasn't ganna be any one piece but I was all in for another action pirate story. after a while the potential of the story and the world just fell flat. instead of a large reality fantasy world with a mix of cast, it felt like the world was holding itself back. the main cast was likable enough honestly, if the show was longer and they wanted to I could see the 7 samurai being developed nicely.
Watch Grand Blue Saiki K One Punch Man Mob Psycho 100 Asobi Asobase Kaguya Sama Great Teacher Onizuka Golden Boy If you still didn't laugh..... WTF is wrong with you
the word you were looking for is contrivance, and it's used by people who lack creativity to push their plot forward so they can have that scene in their story without havening to do the work to actually think of an intelligent way to get there.
@3:11 That pokemon joke was fucking brilliant :D @4:27 "A group of all-female pirates" did you...did you miss the guy with a huge fucking beard on the left mate?:D
"Average Abilities" and Bofuri are pretty gr8, normally just a bit chill and smiley but *when it hits* it hit big! Not something normally rec'd for the comedy but Silver Link shows have some extremely funny bits from time to time sandwiched between the "chillax and vibe" main plot Also the dubs of Cyber City, Ghost Story, and Samurai Pizza Cats are legendary Girls Und Panzer is also incredibly funny despite that not being the main selling point, *those girls are wacky!* Especially the Finnish team😂
This vaguely has the same formula as akatsuki no yona...except yona never became an absolute badass who struck fear and fangasms with a look. And still manages to be adorable. God why does good anime not always get sequels or second seasons, theres plenty of manga dagnabbit!
I enjoyed the animation and designs. Perhaps it’s safe but it def has a whimsical style to it and there’s a 90s flair The main cast of characters are played straight and for 12 episodes. U can’t be made about it But like….idk the first two episodes were really enjoyable and it’s a fun show to watch like you mentioned but like what the hell was that ending And just me personally I would’ve preferred to see the pirate lady and her crew one more time
I actually like your story plot version more, would have preferred that one but I still like the show, it does get stale but I didn’t really notice that because i was interested in final plot of the story n romance
people like konosuba cuz they talk about more modern and relatable stuff but i dont rly find it that funny just a few scenes, but if you want anime that will make you fall off your chair funny I'll recommend Grand Blue, Prison school, also daily lives of high school boys is also an honourable mention
@No Bones I mean hell even Jin-Roh, one of my favorite Anime films of all time, literally has romance in it. What makes it work, is the execution and writting. The romance isn't the main focus, but it's obviously there and well done might I add.
My opinion, The first ep gave me the same feeling when I watched season 1 of SDS, but as the story continues, it becomes less enjoyable, and then some plot holes. my opinion A 6.8
@No Bones It felt like the Anime Fena: Pirate Princess wanted to do something similar to Yona Of The Dawn. With the set up and everything. And the whole romance thing isn't a deal breaker for me personally. It just could have been better written. There are good romance Anime that exist like His and Her Circumstances or My love story that make me care about the relationship . You can have romance in an Anime, you just need good execution, balance and good writting. This Anime isn't terrible in my opinion. It just could have been better executed. 🤷♂️
The only character I really liked was Abel. He didn't really have a LOT of depth but he had an extremely strong motivation to where I can't fault him for trying to get Fena so he could see her mom again. I didn't really feel pity but moreso empathy for him. Bro just needed friends and it happened that his only friend was his first love lol
Konosuba didn't click with me, but Daily Lives of High School Boys and Cromartie High School are two of the funniest anime I've ever seen. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is a special kind of bonkers pretty much all the time while also being a genuinely good show if it works for you. Good luck finding a funny anime for you!
At first, I thought that this anime was going to be good, a fantasy adventure where a girl joins seven samurai to sail around the world to avenge her father and find Eden. But as it went it, the show became a series of plot holes, storylines that go nowhere and a very rushed anime. I thought it was going to have a couple of seasons, flesh out some characters and explain more about the plot, but no, the networks decided that it was best to keep it just 1 season. I thought that Fena was slowly going to learn how to fight for herself and avenge her friend, but she gets captured way more times than Kairi from Kingdoms. Instead, she has to rely on her Yukimaru to come and save her ass for like the 7th time. And the fight between Prince Abel and Yukimaru was good, but that got riddled with nonsense and plot holes like why are Prince Abel’s eyes red, was he possessed by a demon? How did Yukimaru survive after getting stabbed by the British Prince? And the all female pirates were such wasted potential. They were the ones who killed Fena’s father and yet they, the writers, do nothing about it. The red haired captain gets killed off with no resolution or a bit of karma. And the ending is the most confusing and nonsensical ending the anime has ever had. This little boy is some kind of God who tells Fena that she has the power to reboot the world as she see fit. Why does she have to reboot everything? The world is not on the verge of dying or is one of those “the world is so flawed and terrible and we must reboot it.” Cliches. And Fena does the whole sacrificing herself to reboot the world, which turns out to be a fake out as she is reincarnated into the same person, but with black hair. What were they thinking with this ending and the way they wrote this series?
Speaking of Anime that destroyed its potential....Sword Art Online.... I think it was like Episode 12ish when it threw it all away. You know when they just scrapped all the build up/backstory/character development that they had gone through thus far. Then they made everyone fairy's and the whole show just devolved into this stupid plot for asuna to be married off to some pompous perv or he was adopted into her family or some sh1t all so he could be a VR "Deity" or some such nonsense and use his powers to try to R@pe Asuna and gets beaten in his own game while he is an admin by a regular player all at once at the very end...I mean they went from a really good new-age Tower of Druaga type feel with the isekai twist and BAM right after the villain reveal they just scrapped it all for some utter trash...total waste of potential.
For a guy who loved this series bc i'm going through the same thing as 2 when it comes 2 "Today it's been 10yrs since last time we saw each other" bla bla bla. For me it's 11yrs and i only pray i find her. Having that and watching the series as it is, it destroyed me sepecialy the ENDING, like why would u do that WHYYYYYYYY. All i wanted was similarity romance 2 my kinda of situation🥹, but nah. They had me loving the series, crying all sad first then out of nowhere they had me frustrated and on the last episode at this point they were just dramatizing me!! But did i course every single person who made this anime because i was ANGRY AS FFFFAAAA😭. Any tip on good anime based on long lost sweetheart and they find each other🥹.
like it but i agree with waht was said would love the idea you suggested though what i will always remember is theburing stacks scene that makes the british vilivans story happy eyes sad eyes empty eyes thats his story and it works
Honestly up until the last two episodes I really liked Fena pirate princess but it really could have done with 20-25 episodes go properly explore the story
When you have the based take that Konosuba is awful and then turn around and say Eva is "fire". "you were so closed to based and then you were cringe."
On the kono suba thing, I think it's just a matter of suspending disbelief. Personally, I think its easier to find it funny when watching sub. A little weed helps too😉
Persona 4 soundtrack, I can't imagine trying to finish more then 1 show a week, it's already a struggle making myself watch stuff I'm not excited about 😂
This should take place entirely in caribbean colonial setting without any japanese characters. Or just add one samurai employed by the british as diversity hire for ESG score. Make Fena british or black or whatever, maybe some spaniard noblewoman or smth. Have her end up in a brothel and then get rescued but in exchange for something. Give her some agenda instead of being 100% damsel in distress. She learns how to fight and becomes useful asset to theese around her. Thats it, I written 10/10 version of this shit.
You Casually showing the 9anime catalogue instead of the My Anime list catalogue had me held hostage by a group of single brained idiots that forced me into a live action of konusuba as kazuma.
I don't want to anything about the plot because you have done already 😅..but basically it was my first anime series and Idk Why I actually sooo muchhhh appreciate Fena and Yukimaru as couple..this show is kind of my vibe.... besides I forgot they are samurai Afterall 😶
Try high school boys days or Chisagwa road to high school Both are really funny, arguably more then Kanosuba. Also tried love is war? It got some good humor.
Hmm I didn't hate Konosuba but did think the comedy was overrated. Cromartie High School was funny and you might get a few laughs off but tbh it didn't captivate me. My bride is a mermaid has some of the best gags in it to me (though ep 3 introduces a character that almost killed the show). Baka no test to me was a lot funnier than konosuba. And that about it, tbh comedy anime are very hard to get right for me.
I cannot say that this anime is bad because it is not, however that said, i think that ending was rushed. The whole idea that she was chosen one, to chose continuation or end and new world, its not really great. I mean there is no really logic in it. I expected some epic battle between Abel and the goblin knights but nothing big. This series wont return for season 2 which is shame as i guess many would want to see what happen from there (ending). I am glad that some girls (the cutest ones) from girl pirates survived. THis series have potential but was never brought to the full of it. I liked characters of the series but simply plot is full of holes. Oh and by the way No Bones, Konosuba is masterpiece!! You may not really enjoy it but its great.
I liked the plot, Eden was a genuinely mysterious place and when they did find it, it was awesome. Fena always getting saved was pretty annoying

Her being saved is what makes me like the character 😇

Saiki is probably the best comedy anime
I like to call this “Hair flowing in the wind, the anime.” It does that pretty well, but not much for the plot.

This is my second time seeing your reviews and subscribed so hard. You've got a gift for explaining this lmao
I know it's an older video but just in case, I highly recommend The Eminence in Shadow. A wildly absurd show with some genuinely cool moments that also got plenty of laughs out of me. I think it's a great show definitely worth watching.
It's also somehow more unfunny than KonoSuba

Listening to the How to Fix portion: My dude, that's almost the exact plot of Black Lagoon!
It honestly felt like they were trying to capture the same feeling yona of the dawn has but with half of the emotion and intrigue.
People out her saying it was disappointing. NO I AM HELLA MAD AND HELLA INSULTED ABOUT THE ENDING
the word you were looking for is contrivance, and it's used by people who lack creativity to push their plot forward so they can have that scene in their story without havening to do the work to actually think of an intelligent way to get there.

God why does good anime not always get sequels or second seasons, theres plenty of manga dagnabbit!

My opinion, The first ep gave me the same feeling when I watched season 1 of SDS, but as the story continues, it becomes less enjoyable, and then some plot holes. my opinion A 6.8
SDS last season was a bit over stimulated hehe dropping little bones to each character willy-nilly xd
SDS was mostly a prologue for 4KOA. Also, SDS is far better than this
This anime went from yo this looks dope to wtf. I was so pissed when the samurai outfits
School Rumble the Dub makes me laugh pretty consistently
@No Bones
It felt like the Anime Fena: Pirate Princess wanted to do something similar to Yona Of The Dawn. With the set up and everything. And the whole romance thing isn't a deal breaker for me personally. How are you not more popular? very nice video
Damn bro i Loved this commentary haha Persona music is sick
This style would fit very well for a samurai champloo remaster. it basically looks the same as samurai champloo just much more updated
This is 7 months old but the anime that made me cry laughing was Life Lessons from Uruichi nii-San.
The only character I really liked was Abel. He didn't really have a LOT of depth but he had an extremely strong motivation to where I can't fault him for trying to get Fena so he could see her mom again. Watch that anime about a pink haired psychic, that's the latest anime I can remember laughing at.
It was the first Adult Swim and Crunchyroll collaboration, it was expected to be be okay
"If Sakura was the main character, and Sasuke was her her bitch" damn spot on.
1:48 azumanga daioh?
also: hi, im new here, glad to have stumbled in :D
Funny Anime:
-Cromartie High
-Garzey's Wing (So bad it's good)
-Azumanga Daioh
Konosuba didn't click with me, but Daily Lives of High School Boys and Cromartie High School are two of the funniest anime I've ever seen. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is a special kind of bonkers pretty much all the time while also being a genuinely good show if it works for you. Good luck finding a funny anime for you!
7:03 @No Bones THANK YOU
When the Fempirate ship got destroyed, i thought they all died. But then they showed up in the last episode? Mhm.🤔
5:20 "how the fuck does a show about pirates make you fall asleep" 💀
6:50 OMG 😂😂😂😂
''The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.'' Only Anime I ever found laughing out loud funny. Don't hear many people talk about it though.
Lotta people hate it from what I see
Bocchi The Rock, you know, the one you laugh because it hits too close home
Then they made everyone fairy's and the whole show just devolved into this stupid plot for asuna to be married off to some pompous perv or he was adopted into her family or some sh1t all so he could be a VR "Deity" or some such nonsense and use his powers to try to R@pe Asuna and gets beaten in his own game while he is an admin by a regular player all at once at the very end...I mean they went from a really good new-age Tower of Druaga type feel with the isekai twist and BAM right after the villain reveal they just scrapped it all for some utter trash...total waste of potential.
great review subbed love your style
you said no anime has actually made you laugh, I'd recommend Saiki K
honestly, This show would've been way better if it was a solo journey.
"Her hair goes through more character development than she does."
like it but i agree with waht was said
would love the idea you suggested though
what i will always remember is theburing stacks scene that makes the british vilivans story
happy eyes
sad eyes
empty eyes
thats his story and it works
Honestly up until the last two episodes I really liked Fena pirate princess but it really could have done with 20-25 episodes go properly explore the story
When you have the based take that Konosuba is awful and then turn around and say Eva is "fire".
"you were so closed to based and then you were cringe."
Ayo, if you wanna watch a funny anime watch "saiki k" or "love is war" honestly 2 of the funniest shows I ever seen
Oh, I remember this! I forgot about it after the first episode 😅
This is how I feel about all anime now that I'm older it's all the same shit
And shows that have potential squander it in the first 5 episodes
On the kono suba thing, I think it's just a matter of suspending disbelief. Personally, I think its easier to find it funny when watching sub. A little weed helps too😉
You should watch Asobi Asobase. That show is extremely funny.
1:44 what soundtrack is this?? 😯
How do people have so much time on their hands to watch shows like this on the reg
Persona 4 soundtrack, I can't imagine trying to finish more then 1 show a week, it's already a struggle making myself watch stuff I'm not excited about 😂
almost sound like sinbad at the end ..... ALMOST
That's my power! 100% guessing.
I don't remember if I watched 2 or just one episode but I could tell pretty early on that it's going to be bad.
I don't want to anything about the plot because you have done already 😅..but basically it was my first anime series and Idk Why I actually sooo muchhhh appreciate Fena and Yukimaru as couple..this show is kind of my vibe.... besides I forgot they are samurai Afterall 😶
Grand blue the best comedy anime I’ve ever seen
Isn't your fixed plot just the Elizabeth part of Pirates of the Caribbean?
THANK GOD! someone who doesn't like konosuba!
Try high school boys days or Chisagwa road to high school
Both are really funny, arguably more then Kanosuba.
Also tried love is war? It got some good humor.
I like this anime i think for me needs a season 2 cause this season focus on fena and her past
So you're saying turn it into Black Lagoon?
@No Bones
Watch His and Her Circumstances. You'll be surprised how serious and even dark the series gets for a romance Anime.
Mr. No Bones sure like P4, and I can't blame the man.
it was getting good but it just went downhill so fucking fast
yeeeeah thanks for this review, saved me a season of regret
Hmm I didn't hate Konosuba but did think the comedy was overrated.
Cromartie High School was funny and you might get a few laughs off but tbh it didn't captivate me.
My bride is a mermaid has some of the best gags in it to me (though ep 3 introduces a character that almost killed the show).
Baka no test to me was a lot funnier than konosuba.
And that about it, tbh comedy anime are very hard to get right for me.
I like a really funny anime and thats saiki K its about a psychic pink haired guy and its funny dry humour kind of though so try that one 😮😅
1:37 Backstreet girls: Gokedolls
Asobi Asobase (guve it two episodes minimum)
At 2:40 is that the same anime?
It needed 24-26 episodes imo
