Whatever you do, please don’t try this in London or Los Angeles. There has been an uptick of luxury watch robberies in San Francisco in the last couple of months as well.
Thanks for this video! This was a good test run on what it’s like to wear the Rolex on a short sleeve shirt in NYC. I hope the guy who wears the blnr and fell asleep in train will stay safe. Glad you had a great time!
Thank you for this video. I especially liked the Statue of Liberty video. My great grandfathers family along with my grandfather migrated to NYC from Russia in the late 1800s avoiding persecution. We’re from Texas but my son and daughter (both in early 20’s) live in NYC on the upper Eastside not far from the park. We visit pretty often and I will most often wear my Panerai though I’ve never really come across a situation where I’ve felt wearing a Rolex would be risky. That happens far more often for me in Europe.
I also believe that a watch, no matter the brand, is meant to be worn. I have worn my Rolex (SS and TT) when traveling to cities that I am familiar with. However, to places that I have not gone to before, I tend to wear my Omega SMP ceramic with wave dial. Majority of the time, no one pays attention and I rarely get any comments on any of my watches. It’s probably worth noting that when traveling, I tend to stay in higher-end and safer areas and often see people sporting Rolex.
@@sc1 That’s definitely true! Although a lot of people might not know what a Rolex looks like besides the submariner, a more blinged/yellow gold Rolex might come off as a “fake” . In a way, it’s a sort of mimicry (a form of camouflage) in the reverse for protection. The question is, would anyone be willing to risk that. I probably wouldn’t though.
@@Derek-wn2zc I saw some people wearing full yellow gold-colored watches in NYC, but I could tell from a distance that they were neither Rolex nor any other premium brand. I've always lived in small towns/ suburbs, never needed to be overly careful, and never got burned by anything in the city. But, yes, since hearing the stories on the internet, I started to be more careful with my Rolex in the last 2 years...
I understand definitely not wearing the daydate but as a New Yorker, it’s all about common sense and street smarts. There are worse places than Times Square, that I personally wouldn’t wear any of my Rolex’s but generally, unless you happen to by chance, run into someone scoping out people’s wrists, they really don’t care. There’s the mutual New Yorker mentality of minding your own effing business as well 😂. Glad you enjoyed our city for the most part!
Thanks, Really enjoyed Central Park, Brooklyn, and the Statue. Most people are busy just doing their own thing, but I suppose it only takes one bad guy to swipe something,..
The idea is to not draw attention to yourself. Wearing the watch is one thing. taking it off your wrist and photographing it in Times Square is something different different! Just walk around like you belong there, and do not take it off your wrist for pics!!!!

My main purpose of the trip was to take photos with the M11 + 50mm Lux. (Of course, it doesn't do video) So I used my iPhone 12 mini for this video, to be discreet and lightweight. The video quality wasn't great, but it's ok in a pinch. I highly recommend the M11 though. The Q2 would have come in handy too, but I didn't want to bring two bodies.
Heading to Portugal in two days. Thinking about taking my Explorer and either my Ball or Tudor Royal. Thanks for the video and maybe I should substitute the Royal due to the bezel for my Ball Fireman watch. In either case thanks for sharing this video. just be aware of your surroundings, but please enjoy your Explorer. it’s made to be worn, and you can make memories with it. you can always pocket it during sketchy situations, but 99% of people will not know it’s true value…
At least here in Europe, most of the robberies seem to happen to people who have been at restaurants/bars. This gives the scouts ample time to check out your watch. It can be the waiter, bartender or just another patron in the establishment. When you leave the place is when shit happens.
There was a relatively recent incident somewhere in Italy where a luxury watch was stolen at a restaurant only for the thief to return it upon discovering it was a fake.

that rolex is low key most people will not notice it … I only wear my watches with long sleeves so it’s covered unless i’m checking what time it is
