  • “Is it safe to wear a Rolex out and about nowadays?”
An authentic Rolex watch is considered as a worthy investment that will last a long time.
It's a symbol of elegance, performance, and dependability.
Watch aficionados buy a Rolex watch because they are attracted by the brand’s incredible history and tradition, and contribution to innovation in the world of watches.
Others are drawn by the qualities that are attached to the name ‘’Rolex’’, which evokes success, wealth, and prestige.
Rolex has such a strong reputation that its watches maintain their value better than many other prestigious brands.
Perhaps then it’s no surprise that some unscrupulous people want to get their hands on a Rolex watch - and some will go to extreme measures to do so.
Watch crime on the streets isn't a new thing, but it is scary and worrying and all watch enthusiasts are aware of it… or at least, they should be.
Violent watch robberies is headline news and it may put off even the most ardent Rolex fans from wearing their timepiece in public.
And there are many Rolex owners that are not comfortable walking around in public anymore with their Rolex on their wrist for fear of being harmed in an attack and having their prized possession stolen
So here's 5 tips to help keep you safe while wearing your luxury watch.

My fav camera 🥰. A love of my life. My third child (I only have two human children).
There can only be one choice. This is a middleweight camera. I loved the smaller brother (M50) and I have no interest in rolling with the big boys and their cameras. So for me - this is the one!
    "Canon EOS R" amzn.to/3BB4Xqm
LENS for Canon EOS R: amzn.to/3sOTYFK
    My fav One-and-done Lens 🥰
I have several but if I had to just take ONE lens with me - it would be this.
    It is AWESOME.
Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM Lens - Wide angle lens. Ideal for product, portrait and street photography. How can you argue with that!!!! amzn.to/3sOTYFK
    2ND CAMERA: amzn.to/3h0Br43
If the Canon EOS r is a bit out of reach, then my camera before this was the Canon M50.
An awesome, affordable camera that punches well above its weight.
    I LOVE this camera 🥰 amzn.to/3h0Br43

Great for your desk, your bedside table, your shower room.
I have several dotted around the place. Excellent for photography or - just putting on and staring at your watch.
    amzn.to/3JJnNPa
    WATCH STORAGE BOX: amzn.to/3JMM1bf
With around a gazillion watch boxes to choose from, there is just ONE that stands out for me.
The one that is 1) most useful 2) looks the coolest 3) practical 4) Excellent quality

I have the latest version of the Omega Speedmaster Professional. I normally wouldn't be concerned about some thug trying to rob me for it but the new bracelet that it comes with is gorgeous and more ritsy that the previous ones. So when I'm wearing the Speedy casually with short sleeves I have it on a very nice Artem black sailcloth strap (the Hesalite crystal version of the Speedy can actually be purchased with a bracelet or an Omega sailcloth strap and deployment clasp while the Sapphire version comes with a bracelet or leather strap). The watch looks great on the strap and I've always liked the way my chronographs look on straps. It gives them more of a "tool" watch feel. For more formal occasions, the bracelet goes back on (and I've actually gotten pretty good at getting those Omega bracelets on an off, no easy task) and I have to admit, it's a looker and gets a lot of admiring comments . It's why I will always get quality watch on its bracelet but can switch to strap when I want to or, for safety, need to.

Great tips! Common sense required and as much as like to think I have a dose of it, I recently made a naïve mistake. I was on a short break to Barcelona which is sadly known for its street crime (theft) where organised gangs operate in the tourist centre targeting innocent holiday makers distracted by the sights & sounds of this great Catalonian city. After some reflection, I had decided to travel in my Rolex Yacht Master in Everose gold. As it is on a rubber strap I believed it to be more subdued that a full gold watch, and therefore less eye catching. On my first day walking around the city centre, I was just entering the Gothic quarter when my self-awareness was heightened. As it was a hot day I was not wearing a long sleeve that would have helped cover the watch. BIG MISTAKE. Whilst walking down a busy lane I heard someone behind me say into his phone (in Spanish) ‘I don’t think this is the best place’. Understanding what had been said, my instincts kicked-in. I stopped on the spot, turned, took a good look at the guy eye to eye and realised he was following me. He was surprised I had understood him and the situation and slipped into a small alley, stopped and continued to watch me whilst talking into his phone. Knowing they operate in gangs I now realised I only had 2 options: continue forward or go back the way I had come. 2ND MISTAKE: I continued on down this long narrow street which offered no escape, except into small shops or down even narrower and more precarious alleys. Adrenaline flowing, I sped up (making me even more visible amongst the slow pedestrians. Aiming to get to the main Las Ramblas thoroughfare I started to notice spotters positioned at regular intervals of 20 meters or so eyeing me and checking my wrist. All appeared to be in constant telephone contact. On exiting the street into Las Ramblas I started to dart in and out of the crowd in the vain hope that I could escape their attention. As I was approaching the main (square) Placa Cataluña two more guys on phones slowly crossed my path, one directly in front and one behind. I made sure they saw I had taken a good look at them in case I need to identify them. One more, I changed direction weaving in and out, left and right yet progressing forwards to the main square. I saw an opportunity to enter a shopping centre into a multi-floor store I was familiar with. I darted in and up the escalator, up again, and circled around for about 10 mins to observe if they had followed me inside. Thinking more clearly I realised I needed to get back to the hotel. That was still about a kilometre walk but doable if I veered off the main path. I made my exit from the store, via an alternative exit to my entrance, and headed up parallel streets to a tapas bar vacated by locals that I know. I entered and sat by the bar hidden by a pillar and calmed down, had a drink and then headed to my hotel somewhat sweaty but very relieved to be safe. I secured my watch in the hotel safe not to be worn until I was through security at the airport some 3 days later. LESSON LEARNED. I consider myself very lucky to have evaded the gang having retained my £20k watch. FOLLOWING YOUR TIPS would have avoided this situation. NOTED for the future 🙏

In terms of watches that are not Rolex: I think anything that cannot be sold quickly and easily is probably fairly safe, for example Breitling, Panerai, vintage Omega (not Speedmaster). Once the Swatch Blancpain is out, it will be risky to wear that in London, probably - depending for how much it goes on Ebay :) It's quite crazy. Lookalikes can be dangerous, too, thinking about Tudor here.

In fact after years of buying these watches, I got the subtle message from the industry that isn’t obvious to most people. Time is precious. Nothing signifies good times like an expensive wristwatch. All this bollox of the movement etc is irrelevant. Production price rarely exceeds $1000. For me, the only reason i own some is the same reason a rapper recently rapped “they can tell by my watch that it’s a different time”. I like my fitness watch personally. I’ve got more utility out of it than any other. If I was to buy one for quality, it would probably be a Credo from

To insure your Rolex is a good idea but its very expensive and to pay that yearly fee for insurance you can buy another Rolex. Unless you know a cheap insurance watch company better off get a safe. You mentioned be careful where you go. You didn’t mention clubs. There are some women in clubs that know what Rolex looks like. They target these men and put something in their drink. When the lady takes the man to his apartment. He feels sleepy and then she takes his Rolex and other belongings in his apartment so even when you’re dating or trying to find someone can put you at risk when wearing a Rolex. The problem with switching watches and giving it to your wife and putting it in her purse can accidentally get lost. It’s better you wear it then keep switching on and off. When you keep taking off your watch and giving it to your wife to put it in her purse, put you at higher risk for accidentally dropping it, misplacing it, getting damaged due to other items inside the purse. If you keep removing and reattaching your Watch to give to the wife can potentially wear the band or strap reducing its lifespan. I still think you should just wear your Rolex and enjoy life. I lived in New York City for 24 years and I was wearing a Casio and I still got mugged. If they’re going to mug you and you show like you’re a victim, you’ll get robbed. However, if you’re wearing a Rolex, but you walk confident, and not weak looking, that will make you a harder target to be robbed. I think you need to mention that when you walk in dangerous neighborhoods with your Rolex definitely use common sense but you can’t walk weak like a victim. Need to walk with determination. It’s all about psychology.

Thank you for your wise advice. 30-years ago I was attacked in the foyer of my New York apartment building at approximately 1 AM ( I was in the restaurant management business and arriving home from a long day at the restaurant). The attacker immediately jumped my back and began a stranglehold on my neck with his left arm while stabbing me on my right arm and shoulder with a sharp knife. I was about to lose conscienceless as he said, “Give me your watch!” I owned a beautiful gold/steel Rolex Datejust that I purchased new in Texas in 1978 after graduating from college. I was afraid that he had an accomplice with him who either could have killed me or done serious bodily harm with a gun or knife (I was both tired and exhausted from not being able to breathe). I slowly took off the watch and tossed it away from me to see who my attacker was as he ran to retrieve my Rolex. He quickly left the building (there was no accomplice). I eventually went to the hospital and was treated for multiple wounds. My wife was 7-months pregnant and I was only able to tell her that I was “hurt, but OK”on my way home. I didn’t want to tell her my details of the attack in her expectant condition. I have since come to terms with the fact that if I were to go back and forth to work on the NYC subway that it would not be wise to own a valuable watch simply to fit in with the clientele that I saw every day and night. I still would desire a Rolex replacement, but I would find it not safe to wear, especially when crime is mostly unstoppable.

If having a night out go in a group and desinate a safety. I've got two ex military (Rangers/ Spec Ops) guys I've known since high school. I'm 6'4" but they're both 6'6" built like linebackers and both are happily married. So I call their wives and have them coordinate a night out. Great time with besties and zero hassles.
Traveling if I take a luxury watch (I rarely do) I dont go out to mass public or night cl7bs with it.

Best way to not get a rolex stolen is to not buy one in the first place. They are not worth the money, nor the risk. Plus if you like the design there are TONS of different brands which sell almost exact copies with decent movement. If you want to invest, buy gold and put in a safe. No need to wear your ''investment'' on your wrist.

Don't wear Rolex homages unless you want to get clodded in the back of the head with it when the second guy in the stickup crew does the legit check and says "what the hell, 'PARNIS'?!"

Rolex is a bit risky ,sadly, better to wear a Casio Duro instead which looks a bit like a submariner.

First thing I did when bought what for me was my first expensive watch. Was a Ferrari it cost me U$ 900 on 1985, was just 20 years old had earn some good amount of money and was in Italy. Back home start wearing on the right wrist to not be robbed being distracted while driving. Today when going out in the evening and have to walk, just put in my pocket until is safe to have it on. I took a chance that payed off in the end, was a Sunday around 17 pm and stop at the red light. Was not a Rolex but had a Breitling Chrono on, when two guys came up to me. One had under his shirt a gun pointing at me saying your watch or i shoot your head, thought lost my watch . When was about to take it off start talking BS buying time for the green light, had the car on first gear and left foot on the clutch. The guy kept saying man i gonna shoot you, my brain said to me. Man has past 30 seg and where is the gun, told him right away show me your gun and the watch is yours. He said you are a dead man , I had him and begun F,,,,,,,g around asking your finger shoots bullets? You both stupid a,,,les a real thief show his gun and in three segs job is done. That took place in Rio but it can happen anywhere, like my friend in ST Tropez. Someone broke in his house and took his Rolex sub and one priceless Gold Carter Dumont given to him on his birthday engraved by George Michael. They were good friends.

Don’t wear mine in London or New York, which is a shame, but not worth the risk.

When intending to carry stuff you can't afford to hand over, be at somebody's place, or a public venue, or inside a taxi at all times. No walking to a car or strolling outside. Posh places have parking service for a reason: it's not for convenience, it's so you need ten steps at the most from the venue's Portier to your car.

Very good tips. Like the idea of a decoy watch. Saw a story where a guy lost a Rolex out side the airport, guy came up on motorcycle and pointed gun at him. There petty sure some spotter saw him around the airport. So yeah wear a cheap watch when traveling.
