Hey surge, I feel you on this matter. I had purchased the Batman recently and it’s not in the 20k range but I wear it after thinking I could die any day and so it’s best to just enjoy it. At the same time I do not flash it in public and be aware of my surroundings. To top it off, I think if you purchase insurance from hodinkee or jewellers mutual, you should be fine. Just enjoy your watch!
Oh thought you were going to say you got the most basic Rolex every yuppie college kid has and didn’t want to be like every other basic guy out there hahah. Dude it’s a submariner stainless steel. All that is in your head. Wear your watch. I hope nothing this wack pops up on my RUclips again
A Rolex IS a tool watch; it’s just not seen that way. Sure people may see it as a luxury item, but you can’t still take it diving and beat it up and it keep good time. And if you really aren’t wearing a Submariner because eyoure afraid of what people think of you, you don’t deserve a Rolex.
What I loved is - you spoke your heart out about the real life situations unlike idealists - it’s your watch, wear it everyday, don’t care about the surroundings or whatever. You actually shared the harsh reality.
Folk need to get over themselves. Most people couldn’t give a stuff about the watch that some other people wear. More to the point, they don’t really know what a Rolex is.......no, really!
I totally disagree with you. If you were true to yourself you truly wouldn’t care what anyone thinks about you. Obviously you care way too much what others think about you. Dude, life’s too short to concern yourself about ANY of the things that you brought up. Just wear the damn thing if you love it and just enjoy it.
Get an Explorer II, you still know it's a Rolex but nobody (apart from those in the know) will recognise it. Or, alternatively a Panerai? Just don't deny yourself from wearing a quality timepiece.
Honestly don’t give a crap about what they think, if you bought the watch to enjoy it then wear it where ever you like. Don’t make it a hassling experience choosing when..
My friend who drives a Mercedes gave me grief over getting a Sub Date.. Meanwhile after insurance, gas and parking his car costs him 1k per month.. 10 months of that and you have yourself a watch which can last generations.
I understand yes and it's true people can be jealous bad mind . Definitely some bosses would be bad mind if you drive a better car than them or have a more expensive watch.Jealousy is still present in many humans.
Tell ya what! I’ll take that sub right off yer hands so you don’t have to worry about any of this at all! I’ll wear it to everything, everywhere, all at once!
Dear Serge, like the majority of viewers have mentioned in their comments to your video , you saved and sacrificed and put in the efforts to finally purchase and own a Rolex Submariner date , the romance is slowly fading away for this watch , as we all saw in this video, however , there’s a solution to everything , I would personally suggest to remove the stainless steel bracelet and glide lock clasps and mount a Rubber B/ Everestband black rubber strap with normal 316 stainless steel buckle , and below are my reasons why: 1) wearability , the watch feels much lighter and does not shout R O L E X! R O L E X! in people’s faces. I’ve tested it myself. Nobody notices it as much anymore. 2) durability , the rubber band it’s really durable and very comfortable on the wrist both in hot/cold days. If you are also into diving/swimming , it is good as well for that purpose and it won’t disappoint you. 3) You will definitely save your Rolex oyster bracelet , if you are concerned of the scratches in the long run. 4) This final point is for you Surge , don’t let other people’s negative opinion put you down , they do not know what you’ve been through and the effort and sacrifices you’ve made to reach this grail watch, wear it in happiness. Take care Mark
Mark you give sound advice. I think some Rolex owners (especially those who had to save for a while to buy one)get self conscious about the watch, but also expect it to work like magic, instantly earning the approval and admiration of your peers. I have found that most people either don't notice it or don't mention it if they do. Very few people even know what a Rolex costs, they think $2k is expensive. Ultimately it's just a watch in the eyes of most people. I will add that watches also seem to look better when you see another person with it. I have a Datejust that I am used to. One day my wife had to retrieve it for me and seeing it in her hand it was a thing of unmatched beauty. I wonder if that's what people see when it's on my arm, but I will never know because they don't say.
Lol most beta video and reasoning 😂😂 “you don’t wanna be caught wearing things Nicee than the peoples who’s money your managing” ?? 💀 bro cares too much about other people and isn’t secure
Buy a Tudor or an Omega. I got my Submariner when I was 18 that is long ago. I used it and beat it for more than 30 years. Nowadays I wear a Phoibos as a dayly beater. Phoibos is a nice homage. The Suariner is totally restored like new. It is a 1680 from 1976...a present from my dad. My brother got an Omega Speedmaster mark II.😎😎Tool watches...
I think Rolex is the perfect daily wearer among all luxury watches specially the black subs... maybe 1 out of 1000 people would even ask about it if noticing it at all- at least that's my case, but at the same time you get to see it at any moment. Watches are made to be worn on the wrist. Enjoy them with good health.
It’s stupid to own a nice watch and don’t wear them! My submariner is a everyday rocking watch and I’m don’t baby them. Who cares about scratches, don’t have to buy anything nice. That is my opinion!
Get one of the NEW Steinhart Ocean 39 with ceramic Bezel for the everyday use at work. It is an upgraded version of the one you had before ;) Would be a nice return to the watch it all started with :D
5:49 scraped the bottom of my Datejust bracelet, only days after picking it from servicing (+new bracelet). Was riding my bike in the rain on the West Side Highway green path and slipped out, went sliding, and scratched it a bit. Not enough to feel like a "complete" idiot. Now I just take it off prior to showering, or the "great outdoors".
I'm self employed. I hire a lot of designers and technical contractors to help me with projects. They are always sizing up clients and pricing their quotes accordingly. If I'm wearing a rolex it sends them a message that I can afford more. In my line of work humility is a huge advantage for me.
here too. greetings from switzerland. I have a davosa ternos 40 mm. a steinhart 42 and a rolex a 41, all are black dial. I wear the rolex for special occasions. Davosa for daily work(daily smart).and the steinhart on the weekend(a tough beast) and the rolex is the smartest.. im not a collector , I have these 3 and thats it.my uncle is since 50 years a swiss watchmaker so all 3 watches are under his radar..
My friend, I just ran across your video, I thought maybe there would be some new content on the submariner. After listening to what you said, just a thought, I own a very successful company, and I’m not ashamed to wear a beautiful watch. I have an amazing Rolex collection, you should look at it another way also besides life is too short. Did you ever think that maybe your clients who see you wearing something like this have probably come to the conclusion that perhaps you do very well at what you do and your successful. Another way to look at it is you obviously know what you’re doing if you can spend that kind of money on a watch, so maybe they should listen to your suggestions and advice, and in the future they can afford one too at some point just a thought.
Submariner is a tool watch, you've got to wear it anywhere, anytime. It's not a hundred thousand dollar watch... Use it! Nobody notices it. You're thoughts may not be true to what really is happening now. As others said, life is short... enjoy what you have.
Noooo he couldn’t be seen wearing suits to work! What would the clients think. Didn’t you know, someone got fired for wearing clothes to work. Too flash for clients, they’ll think you have too much money. It’s old newspapers and potato sacks only, otherwise clients would be thinking you’re spending their money on foolish things. It’s just how it’s done in the big financial cities… I’ve never seen anyone in NY or London wear anything expensive ever. In fact if you go to the city of London you would think it’s just one big homeless colony.
I agree with you,I wish I did not but this is Rolexes doing not ours. I was going to wear my Rolex Milgauss for the weekend . then I thought my Hamilton Khaki King has the date and the day function which I really like, its a Swiss made watch for under $500 US so which watch do I really like and want to wear, the Hamilton won out over the Rolex . I will be going back to a 34MM Rolex Air King , still a Rolex ,but I won't have too much tied up in the watch.
Hi I have an entry new one in a secret place wind it regularly never worn I told one friend I had one and no text for a while from him, ( just saved money) got box, tags, warranty, receipt etc )
You should buy an Invicta Pro diver. They share a similar aesthetic, but you don't have to worry about breaking the watch.. since they're cheap to replace! They keep good time and cost ~$90 instead of thousands of dollars!
Not sure how you are keeping your professional life private if you are doing these videos? Just saying. Also this is not an 18k watch, in the grand scheme of things it's very much an entry level luxury watch. I really wouldn't worry much. Live you life sir.
Depends locally, trust me Sir, there is whole a lot of places where 100 USD is fortune. Same goes to the people who may hurt your invincibility - for the watch. If you argue "then dont go to such places" - I would say "its just a diver", because the pricewise the amount of the money spent on these in your world is marginal isn' t it. There is many people having sub yet diving with Seikos.
That’s why I bought a Lorier Neptune, it’s a watch I can wear everyday without having to worry about it a whole lot, with enough quality I can also pass down to my kids (hopefully), if one day I do own a Rolex, I don’t even think that’s the one my kids would want, just sitting at the house, your boy wants the watch dad wore everyday
I just told my boss I didn't touch my bonus for a few years. End of story. I've since helped him source a new Breitling and have become the watch guy. You never know what common ground you're going to find with people. Unless there are established politics in your office, which I've seen in the past, wear what you're going to wear with confidence. Parking your rented BMW's down the street is ridiculous.
It's funny how our watch journey is similar...but reversed. I used to own three Rolex watches, bought in the 70s and 80s. But the prices got STUPID - so I sold them, bought three Steinharts, and put $50,000 in the bank. I loved 'em, but I love the Steinharts just as much. Not to mention the money in the bank.
I agree with the second and the third reasons. I wear my Rolex at work sometimes, but whenever there is a meeting where someone sit just next to me, I wear a cheaper watch. I do hope I can wear a Rolex everyday, but it is just not appropriate for the time being.
@@redsea1234 Good question. If I am perceived as richer, some friends and colleagues will over estimate my financial status, expect me to pay more, and eventually some of them will say I am stingy. Bad-mouth people are everywhere. Rolex is a symbol of success, wealth, or high social status. Since I don’t belong to these categories, wearing a Rolex may give some colleagues an impression of spending money irrationally. This is another adverse effect. I own both Rolex and Omega. Both are very accurate. I like the Rolex better, but when I wear the Omega I don’t need to worry about anything since the Omega draws less attention.
All good reasons. I have a sub myself and I don't know why people consider it a beater/everyday watch. The ceramic is so flashy along with the polishing in the few places that the new models have. It screams luxury.
I wear my Sub Ceramic No Date on a black Everest rubber strap with the Glidelock clasp. It looks better in my opinion and nobody seems to notice I'm wearing a Rolex. I think it's the Oyster bracelet that shows it's a Rolex from a distance.
I honestly agree with you on the first point that Rolex is trying to somehow push up the market to present themselves as a limited, luxury and only the few can wear... a tool watch at 10k is ridiculous honestly... if you really wanna get a bashing watch... get a gshock...
+Wrist Distraction Rolex trying...? Rolex IS the biggest watch superbrand out there. No other watch brand is even near the brand success Rolex has become. Nobody cares what you find ridiculous, as long as the market is eager to pay 10K or more for a tool watch from Rolex. 🤣

If you go to Kirgiztan or whatever remote place, and ask a random farmer to mention a good watchbrand, 99% will say Rolex. That is because of brand recognition and hopefully proves my point to you. And there is nothing cheap about a Rolex (I guess you´ve never seen one in real life though), on the contrary, it is one of the most well made mechanical watches out there, and the ownership is a breeze compared to Vacheron or AP, where you have to wait 6 month during every service, and the intervals are often tighter than at Rolex.

I know a bunch of you are going to get triggered by this but you know it's true... maybe you are in the 5% that is actually buying the watch because they understand it, love it, value it, and could care less if anyone else knows about your brand...
Yup, a good work/everyday watch is a GS. Or Nomos. I'm seeing more and more suits wearing Nomos these days.
Guy thought my sarb was a rolex. I may purchase a gs soon. I suspect I may see God in the finishing.
@japanwatchconnection wow! interesting. I have had both as well and think the finishing on Rolex isn't anywhere close to grand seiko. Nothing against Rolex. Wear what you want but I truly thought GS was much better
Just buy an Omega and have an equal quality watch, for less money, and without the stigma
Because omega isn’t cheap anymore for a half decent planet ocean your looking at 4-5 k add a few more you have a half decent Rolex and it goes up in value Breitling or tag is your best bet good watches just not the only my humble opinion btw
@@astrix1014Dude, Tag isn’t on Breitling’s level. Tag is a department store brand watch for the most part. I don’t consider it a luxury watch brand.

I can't imagine owning a watch and not using it. If you think about resale in a watch then you should think about maybe not buying it in the first place.
Dude, this us lame, you wear that watch proudly and dont be so timid....
Ludicrous! If it’s that much of a hype, sell the bloody thing or shut up!
Just tell them its a fake. Let us know how that goes...
I have a Sub and I don’t give a rat’s ass if somebody is put off by that. I earned the money and bought the watch, so I’ll wear it whenever and wherever I want. If somebody thinks that’s pretentious, that’s too bad.
Regarding the perception of Rolex in the workplace, I called it over a year ago but it's nice that you are finally realizing it. I also work on Bay St. and wear an Aqua Terra every day. Problem solved.
WatchBox. No waitlist. 25% premium over list. ✅
The hype is dying and the supplies are building up. It’s not that big of a deal.
if you fear your watch so much it means you can't afford it and should probably sell it
Why so much hate? This guy is just sharing his opinion.
@Weird Science where do you live that people act like that? No one i know nor the areas i visit think that way
@Weird Science with your reply I now understand the class of person you are, disregard my comments
@Weird Science I didn't read anything you said, it was too long, have a good day
Work in the hood in NYC and wear by OP/Explorer 1/BB 58. Wouldn't wear my TT DJ because it's kinda flashy but the others are so subdued no one notices
You’re conflicted. This watch is just the tip of the iceberg.
Look how he’s displaying it. He’s trying to find a buyer.
lol
Get an Explorer II, you still know it's a Rolex but nobody (apart from those in the know) will recognise it. Or, alternatively a Panerai? Just don't deny yourself from wearing a quality timepiece.
I made it to the 4:00 mark and couldn't watch this guy cry any longer. He doesn't deserve a nice timepiece. Send me your watch and I'll wear it.
Honestly don’t give a crap about what they think, if you bought the watch to enjoy it then wear it where ever you like. Don’t make it a hassling experience choosing when..
Don't get scared by envy losers, you don't have to justify yourself for owning stuff; make the watch part of your character.
@Weird Science thats why working in the public sector sucks, change the job not the watch.
Dude the Reps are getting so good now most of the rollys you see now days are Reps🤣🤣🤣🤣
Understandable man. What's your daily watch if not the Sub?
So it’s ok to drive a $30k (insert any average car) but wearing an $8k watch is the height of snobbery?
My friend who drives a Mercedes gave me grief over getting a Sub Date.. Meanwhile after insurance, gas and parking his car costs him 1k per month.. 10 months of that and you have yourself a watch which can last generations.
I am not wearing my Rolex to work as well. I do not want my boss to see i can buy luxury watches.
Why not?

Tell ya what! I’ll take that sub right off yer hands so you don’t have to worry about any of this at all! I’ll wear it to everything, everywhere, all at once!
Dear Serge, like the majority of viewers have mentioned in their comments to your video , you saved and sacrificed and put in the efforts to finally purchase and own a Rolex Submariner date , the romance is slowly fading away for this watch , as we all saw in this video, however , there’s a solution to everything , I would personally suggest to remove the stainless steel bracelet and glide lock clasps and mount a Rubber B/ Everestband black rubber strap with normal 316 stainless steel buckle , and below are my reasons why:
1) wearability , the watch feels much lighter and does not shout R O L E X! R O L E X! in people’s faces.
Take care
Mark
He should sell it. The love is gone, you are correct.
He can still wear the watch just does not to use it daily for work.

Rolex has turned tool watches into luxury items. You might be robbed or killed for that watch.
Pedro Saenz Especially when ya have a u tubes showing everybody that yours is real when a lot of submariners are fake
I don't understand these negative comments, everything's clear and I could completely agree with this guy
Try a Steinhart. You'll sell the Phoibus. 👍

So far, I've only bought stuff that I could replace tomorrow if lost. If you can only afford one, it's not really worth it.
It may sound silly, but Rolex is a true diver tool watch that people used to wearing as a luxury jewelry with some indoor formal occasions only .😊
Get one of the NEW Steinhart Ocean 39 with ceramic Bezel for the everyday use at work.

I recently bought a Rolex sub date from my AD, and I will tell you that no one notices the watch. I was worried about it but no one notices.
You should be your own man. Wear your Rolex anywhere you want and stop thinking about other peoples options.
here too. greetings from switzerland.
This guy is just trying to show off. So, I’m assuming you buy your suits and shoes from the thrift store?
Me too man. I love my Hammys.
I love my Rolex sub and don't give a shit about what people think 😀

I have an entry new one in a secret place wind it regularly never worn I told one friend I had one and no text for a while from him, ( just saved money) got box, tags, warranty, receipt etc )
I agree.. I like wearing under the radar watch geek watches that are expensive but don’t look expensive to the masses
What’s on the wrist serge?
If you argue "then dont go to such places" - I would say "its just a diver", because the pricewise the amount of the money spent on these in your world is marginal
isn' t it.
That just has a seiko movement in it no? Not sure why people liked those, mom and pop shop.
I don’t wear my Rolex everyday because I don’t have one !
Just bought one to my 20years old son and for sure told him not to flash it and understand his privilege
Wear what makes you happy.
Yeah I’d wear that sucker daily!!!
This video is a bummer. I mean you do you man but damn. Seems so sad to let others judgement control even what you wear.
Wear your watch dude... lol or sell it if you're too timid to wear it.
I agree with the second and the third reasons.
I wear my Rolex at work sometimes,
but whenever there is a meeting where someone sit just next to me,
I wear a cheaper watch.
I do hope I can wear a Rolex everyday,
but it is just not appropriate for the time being.
Why are you worried if you’re perceived as richer? What’s the worse than can happen?
Ur poor
@@jhmsmarttv795 Are you stupid? what about audemars piguet, patek philippe and ao on? Rolex is a cheap tool watch, nothing else. I wear mine when I work on my car...
@@rasmusjensen588 Who are you to call others stupid? It is rather obvious that you don't even understand the basics of this discussion. That Rolex IS the worlds biggest watch superbrand, is a FACT. Not an opinion! That AP, Patek and Vacheron are part of the Holy Trinity and are horologically regarded higher class, has NOTHING to do with the mentioned fact.
