Join me for a little tour of one of my favorite places in the amazing city of New York, and a sneak peek into how I keep my watches safe. I'm also excited to share my proudest achievements with the Urban Gentry channel this year, and my feelings towards the Explorer 114270 as it has been a year since I purchased it. I share my thoughts on why it has become not only my favorite Rolex, but quite possibly my favorite watch of all time.

Thanks so much for sharing our magazine with everyone. The article will also run in the US edition of Revolution, which will be out in the next couple of weeks, so go out and grab a copy Gentry fans! x
Sophie Furley my favorite watch mag, Revolution. I have been a subscriber since its inception. Keep up the great work!
Sophie: What edition number will it be in? I purchased International Vol 46/USA Issue 81 Spring 2018. What is the USA Issue number? I assume #82??
Joe Pratt Hi Joe, It is number 47 and it will be out some time mid July. I’ll let you know when it is out. Best, Sophie
Thanks Bill. I'll pass your message onto the team, they will be thrilled.
Sophie: I checked yesterday at local Barnes and Noble.....still the 'previous edition' on display. Any idea when it might show up. Thanks
Ran- one of the best films ever made. I started applauding at one point in the film and the audience joined me. The scene where the woman crushes a moth. She goes through every emotion in a few seconds.
This is the content I have been dreaming you would make TGV! I love NYC, cannot wait to go back. Keep it up man!
Thank you Kenny, tons more in the works.
I am sure you will love it :D
Best regards,
TGV
“What are those people trespassing!?” Haha I lost it ! Congratulations on the interview , TGV!
TGV One of your best videos. Congrats on the magazine article. Auguri!
Grazie mille Tony,
Best regards,
TGV
Absolutely love it when he shoots videos outdoors. Nothing like seeing a watch perform in public under national light
The Explorer fits you perfectly T. That is one of the few watches from Rolex that I love in its entirety.
For a second there, I though you were leafing through a playboy magazine. 😂
Man this stuff is awesome. I’m so glad I found your channel just a week ago. A true gentleman with passion! I’ve got a lot of videos to catch up...
Perfect Sunday morning , breakfast, relax drinking coffee, watching the latest episode from The Urban Gentry. Personal favorite Rolex is the Explorer 2 , one day maybe ….
i love the simplicity of explorer. this video makes me want one so badly now
This is a really cool video, hope you enjoyed making it because I did watching it!
Thank you Donovan, very kind of you to say. It was indeed great fun, so much so I will be making a few sequels hopefully.
Best regards,
TGV
Thank you for sharing the NYC video and sincerely hope you share more in the future. My wife and I are coming to NY later in the year for her birthday so more video and ideas are warmly welcomed. There may even be a watch shopping trip involved...
As for Rolex, I'm not a big Rolex lover however the Explorer is by far and away my favourite Rolex and the only one I'd consider owning again. I love the understatement and versatility of it. Never ever sell it - you'll regret it if you do.
My favorite Rolex, and the one I own, is the 116600. Now that I've owned this watch for 2 years it's funny to think how I considered anything else. After flying through count-less watches, having left them unfulfilled, it's truly exciting moment when you find your lifelong keeper. A little scary too. Only knowing the flipping of timepieces you wonder if there is life after that. This watch does what the others could not and that is the ability to forget about the watch. The others left me with a thought in the back of the brain, "I really don't like this watch" or "I really wish I had such and such". To forget I have it on my wrist and then check the time, get the time, and then think "wow, I love this watch", and then forget about it again is exactly what I've been looking for.
I did it. I got myself a Rolex Explorer 🤗
Thanks TGV, for making the time of waiting so entertainingly.
Got mine (2016 Explorer) just over a year ago (idea it being my only watch ever) and I have come to like it more than ever. My friends thought it boring at first but have come to compliment it over time. It does have stealth and an underlying elegance and quality that only reveals itself over time. A truly magnificent piece, with such a rich history, everything that embodies the genius design and quality of Rolex.
I missed a video like this one so much. Love your outside summer talking videos!
I never knew New York was so nice and had safe parts. Thank you for sharing. It’s changed my opinion.
Fantastic video TGV. I love these episodes when you mix watches with sightseeing and general culture. Keep it going this way 👌🏻
Just thought I’d let you know that I am incredibly obsessed with your channel and your passion for watches, you have truly given me the bug!
Keep it up TGV!!
Beautiful first part of the video. Thank you for that Central Park tour. Amazing tour, very informative and appealing. Museums, explanations, beautiful views and so on. Thank you TVG. My favorite is the Tudor Black Bay fifty-eight. My soul and heart are always fighting: Omega Speemaster Day-Date Mk40 vs Tudor Black Bay. Vintage vs Royal. And then Sinn and Junghans are my second line brands. Of course my SKX007 (my first automatic) and Seiko (generally speaking) is in my collection. Love them all.
So glad to hear my friend. I love all your choices, you have excellent taste in watches.
I am proud to have you as part of the gentry!
Onwards and upwards.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
TVG congratulations for your important achievement. Being on Revolution is an outstanding result. Excellent!
Good day to you TGV, this is the kind of video I have waiting for. It was great to see actual street footage of.a place that I will unlikely ever have the opportunity to visit. Central Park looks amazing and I did not realise how expansive an area it is for people to enjoy. Can’t believe you have had the Explorer for a year, I really adore the current version of the Explorer. Congratulations on making it into Revolution magazine.
You have shown what can be done, accomplished with hard work and persistence and I use your achievements as a push to set goals of my own to achieve and to keep moving forward and continue to improve, thank you ⌚️⏱🍾🥂
Never say never my friend. But until you make it here, I will be doing lots more!
Thank you for the kind words, but also for being there with me on this journey since the very beginning.
I hope to one day meet you and shake your hand.
Best regards,
TGV
Great video TGV!! I’ll be looking to pick up a copy and read the article. Keep up the fantastic word my friend. Stay classy
Great video! The Rolex Explorer is THE Bond watch. Befitting the literary Bonds background for hi-quality clothing, automobiles and other possessions. The watch is for those interested in understated quality and richness. No flash, a man that is comfortable and has no need for flash. Bond is ex-military and still has all the habits of a soldier. The movie Bond is nothing like Fleming's.
Great piece on NYC. Have been there for business, but never pleasure. I need to take the train down from Boston and make a weekend of it. Again, good show!
I think these are my favorite type of videos that you make. I know you recently asked about expanding to different forms of content and I think you should consider possibly doing urban exploring type content such as this. You really seem to have a knack for filming in a style like this.
Thank you sir, this video was in fact a direct result of that video you mention.
You will be glad to know much more is planned :D
Onwards and upwards!
Best regards,
TGV
Then I very much look forward to future content on this channel. Also I just checked the prices on the Pepsi and you weren't kidding. You could sell that and buy a brand new ceramic Batman and then still have money left over afterwards. Insane!
good Idea with video in museums or art gallery ...
Thank you for this great video. Been a huge fan of your channel. Im from Japan and am getting Rolex 114270 this week. After watching this video so many times, im very excited.
ARIGATO!!
Hello, TGV.
Really enjoying watching through your videos. (Still kind of new to this)
I'm only 17 nearly 18 and I don't exactly come from a extravagant background. But I'm really intrigued by the culture and history of watches, been saving up for some of my own.
Really like the way you use your words to express different feelings and even that inspires me to extend my own vocabulary.
Hopefully one day I'll be able to become more knowledgeable in these cultures.
I hope you'll see this.
Have a nice day.
Regards,
RC
One of the most beautiful cities in the world, I passed my honey 🌙 in the summer of 2002 there, simply amazing
Love videos like these, would love to see more!
You are not alone, the gentry have spoken, much more on the way!
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
Exceptional editing.
You're love for the city is obvious, but your passion for communicating is growing.
Im sitting in afghanistan wishing I was back in the US riding my bike past you as you record. You just made me homesick !!
Thanks for the tour! I was in NYC this time a year ago. Actually, I toured Central Park a year ago this day. A fantastic French lady guided my family and I. There is so much history there from how it was made to the people who have visited the park. It was one of the best parts of my visit to NYC. My SKX kept me great company that day as well. 😉
*_Livin' the life in the greatest city in the world. Love you guys! Have a nice weekend everyone!_*
Thank you, have a great weekend too!
Best regards,
TGV
That video brings back the good old times of the channel! Mixed with your gained experience this is a pleasure to view - love the calm mood of the video as well! Thanks a lot TGV =)
Always a pleasure my friend!
The old days will return but better hopefully.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
Love the explorer. I plan to buy mine at 65 when I retire. I like to buy watches for special occasions.
A very worthy retirement watch and such a classy way to mark the occasion.
I like your style, thank you Justin,
Best regards,
TGV
Loved the episode Tristano, nice touch with the insider advice on Central Park and some great museums. I do get to the city on occasion and if I'm lucky enough to go again this summer will take some time to enjoy the park! Onwards and upwards mate!
Hi TGV - thank’s for introducing the Central Park - nice explanation of “the one” which isn’t only true for watches!
Beautiful shots of New York and Central Park.
Great Video TGV... Reminds me of the earlier ones when Ernie would accompany you!! Enjoyed looking at the scenery... very nice indeed!! Can’t believe it’s been nearly 15 yrs since I visited NYC.. Anyway enjoy the Explorer Good Sir, & congratulations on the magazine!! BMJ ENGLAND 🏴
In 1857, Los Angeles was in the Pueblo stage with a pop under 50k. What vision NYC had and the genius of Landscape Architect FLO. I visited Queens this afternoon via the wide screen and John Travolta in Gotti. None of the wise guys had any discernable watches on. TGV, what a classy talented guy you are. Best Regards, JP
I am in love with the Sinn104 and I'm saving money for that bad boy. when i look at the review of Sinn104 . . . oh God i can't speek no more.
I hope everyone in the Gentry find and reach their love.
Fan-tastic! Thanks for letting us go along on a wonderful tour of Central Park with you and your beloved Explorer. This video added a powerful third dimension to your horological presentation and passion for time pieces. Bravo! Bravo!
Peaceful, recreational paradise and the NYPD still rolls past🤣
LOL
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
Congratulations on being published!
Hi TGV - Great episode! Thanks for the NYC tour. Nice to see culture related material back in your videos like the "old days" :). I've got to get back to NYC soon. I agree with the Explorer commentary. I finally made the purchase off Ebay but had to return it as it was not in the condition described. Very disappointing but made the decision to save for a new one and hope to have it by year end. Wishing you the best - John
I have a quote for you TGV. My good friend and Bronx NY native Devin says. A New Yorker that doesn't take the subway is not a New Yorker that you can trust. I'm wearing my Vintage Seiko Skyliner Calender today. On a blue custom leather strap made right here in Bozeman MT.
I love the quote and your Seiko!
Thank you Matt for sharing that, best comment so far.
Best regards,
TGV
A class video and a class watch. Understated and elegant. I agree with the sentiments here. This is one of my favourites as well.
thumbs up for that little mobb deep nod
Seriously enjoyed that video TGV. Loved your brief show of your part of the world. Very interesting to see. reminded me a bit of the late Mr Bourdain’s take on a city (very sad to hear of his passing). My favourite Rolex is your Subbie, but with the lumed numerals. I’d have your model any day though. “Slow release” is a very good way of putting the appreciation for such a beautiful piece. Bring on more similar videos please! Btw, i noted your Parker Jotter was the same colour as your nato. Nerdy to some but very cool to me. I’m now contemplating a nato in the same colour myself 👌🏻👍🏻😎
TGV I love your videos man!! This is always a highlight of my day!! The Explorer is beautiful and you have convinced me that it’s the one watch I want to buy one day! :)
Thank you Gabriel for the compliment, I am honored.
I hope your dream come true my friend.
Onwards and upwards!
Best regards,
TGV
and that again is the quality and content i love this Channel for,
its so amazing watching how much energy you put into your videos,
-greetings from Germany
Thank you my friend, that means the world to me to me.
Onwards and upwards!
Best regards,
TGV
Loved your tour of Central Park. Born in Brooklyn and now living in Phoenix, you made me feel as though I was back home in NYC. The subway, and just the old architecture really made me feel just great. Hope I can acquire the catalogue you made reference to here in Arizona to study the watches there-in. Have a great day and thanks for the video. It absolutely made my day.
Central Park may not be your garden but definitely looks like your oyster. A pleasure following you in your meanderings, Mr TGV.
I have to say that my 114270 Explorer is aesthetically the best watch I have ever worn. I bought mine to celebrate my 64th recently, and it is one of my best acquisitions ever (my fiancée Sarah definitely agrees with me, as it is subtle).
Talking about explorer and NYC, what more could I've asked ? Great vid, TGV, was a great pleasure to watch ! Thanks for sharing !
I'm really enjoying these vids, TGV. NYC is absolutely beautiful and you did it justice by showing us parts of Central Park we would have never known about or found on our on. I need to pick up a copy of that magazine. Can I find it at a Barnes and Noble?? As always, keep up the great work and thank you for making these videos for us all to enjoy.
These are the videos I miss much from you 😢
Love this video. Absolutely love it. Cheers matey!!
Please do a review of the 2016 air King with the minutes and hours marked please because I’m considering buying it
Great video as always Tristano. It was a pleasure to watch. My favourite watch is my Speedmaster 311.30.42.30.01.005. I’m still in love with it and honestly, my other watches didn’t get much wrist time since I bought it. Still, I want that 214270, it’s just perfectly sized and beautiful. Looking forward to your next video.
Good evening Tristano,
I enjoyed very much your new video and i should say... the explorer on that nato strap (it's like: Oh, oh my! That's nice! ). Also, great footage on the park,
a very pleaseant area, no doubt!
Haven't commented in a while so I hope this one finds our beloved governor in good health!
(Gentle request/suggestion: opinion/review the Farer handwound STANHOPE.)
Best regards,
João
Can't wait to read that article! And that is one safe place to keep your watches!
I was cycling in Central Park this weekend. I could have stopped to give you one to review.
Thanks for the tour and update on your Explorer! Great job TGV!
Loved the video Tristano, NYC what a place!
I absolutely love how you incorporated New York City into this video!! The Casey Neistat of Watches
Never really considered the explorer before, but your enthusiasm for it has really made me rethink that position... Deciding between the explorer or an oyster on a black strap for a "dress" watch. My favorite watch though is my sea-dweller 116600. It does actually make me think I will never need another watch. TGV, why no love for subby's big brother on the channel?
The Explorer is the only Rolex that appeals to me and someday I’ll own one.
I love this understated Rolex...I also like the Air King....
whoa whoa whoa, someone has to mention the Mobb Deep thrown into the intro - didn't think I'd see that happen!
Fantastic, Tristano! I officiated over the wedding of my best friend and his bride a couple of years ago in Conservatory Garden. Great to see it in the video. The Park is a beautiful sanctuary. Could it be time to let Subby go? There’s a video; Signs that it’s time to say goodbye to a watch. 😁
Along my running route. The park has changed my life. Cheers!
You are very lucky, enjoy it John.
Always happy to hear from people who have had exercise and places change their life for the better.
Keep on jogging my friend!
Best regards,
TGV
I'm a manager of a bank in Canada, yet I still keep all my watches in my safe at home. A safety deposit box big enough to hold my watches would cost around $200 or more a year. I bought a safe years ago for $250 or so and it holds my 8-piece watch box plus all my wife's jewellery. It's secured to the floor and the contents are insured.
Though the chance of total loss is highly improbable, remember the contents of a safety deposit box are not insured. I also like the convenience of switching my watches whenever I want.
This is probably my favorite video of yours
TGV you are one dashing SOB!!
Thank you :D
Very kind of you to say.
Best regards,
TGV
The music choice in this video is excellent. You have good taste, Sir.
Wow! Quite an interesting video! Central Park: haven’t been there since I was a kid, but definitely need to go again next time I’m in the Big Apple. I wouldn’t of thought of it, thanks for that. Your article: I’m really excited for you Tristano, you’ve worked hard for it. It’s just great to see you’re getting the recognition you deserve! Congratulations!👏👏👏
The Explorer: up until now, I haven’t been a huge Rolex fan, but that Explorer with the black dial, and particularly with that dark red NATO band, is incredible! I can see why it’s your favorite.😀
Great video. Really enjoyed the Central Park tour and would love to see more of NYC.
Thank you John, you be glad to know, much more on the way :D
Best regards,
TGV
Great video. I'm a fan of the ''out and about'' vlog type of vid. Just picked up the new 39mm Explorer and I have to say I keep glancing one eye over to the 14270 wondering if I've done the right thing.
Pause this and Ill be back watching after finishing my work!!
Thank you YJC,
Always appreciated, let me know what you think then.
Best regards,
TGV
WOW TGV Im excited for you being featured on revolution watch!!! I wish to visit NYC one day and you gave me a fantastic tour around The Central Park... I can literally feel your passion for the explorer through the computer screen but the dilemma for me is: Rolex DJ 36 or explorer 36 for my first ever rolex??
One of my favourite portraits is that of Brian Ferry sporting the Rolex Exporer. We get a glimpse of it in this marvelous video. I struggle between the Explorer and Datejust ref. 116234. I believe it is the simplicity of the Explorer that is most appealing.
The Explorer is going to have to be my first Rolex
I like it ;-)
I hope you make that dream come true.
Thank you,
Best regards,
TGV
It is an excellent choice!
I love your back to the roots IRL-videos!
Really enjoyed this video. I have fond memories of NYC as I have been there a few times & once with my son when he was a little kid(he loved the Bronx zoo) Happy Father's Day 🍏🏇🏇🏻
Central Park's design was influenced by Birkenhead Park in (what is now) Merseyside. The designer of Birkenhead Park was Joseph Paxton, who was also the architect behind the Crystal Palace.
Great video! Nice to see N.Y. from your prospective. My favorite Rolex that i owned in the past, was a gift for my 15th Birthday while living in beautiful Shropshire. It was a Rolex Air king, and it seemed quite a nice size, back in those days. I loved it so much. Sadly it was stolen. Loved the show. Thanks for your hard work. And you must be chuffed with that article, in that great magazine! Very nice and well deserved! Congratulations!
Best Regards
Stuart
Really enjoyed that one T, looked like a gorgeous day in Central park and thanks for the musium tour.
Definitely planning a trip to the big apple at some point. All the best.
Great video, I can see the explorers charm, never used to but it all makes sense. Congrats on the magazine article, upwards!
i think the nypd has you under investigation. lol
TGV, never been to New York looks bloody fantastic! Great video, your our UK spokesperson within the , Big Apple!
Your videos are so awesome!
The fellow who designed central park first designed Bushnell park in hartford ct and walnut hill park in new britain ct. Then to create his masterpiece central park in NYC! Thank you for taking us non new yorkers on a tour of those very special places in central park! Love the videos, always great to see your excitement and enthusiasm on watches! Fantastic videoTGV! Hey quick question, are laco watches and doxa watches related somehow? Are they both swiss?
I love this watch, I’ve owned the 114270 Explorer for 6 months now, and I think it is absolutely superb; so cool and understated. I don’t live in NY; rather in south Manchester UK, but I do have the Fletcher Moss park ( where the RSPB was originally created), and wear mine there while walking my terrier dog.
Hi tgv, Awesome vid, the park looks fantastic, so more please, I can’t believe you’ve had the explorer a year already, time fly’s, O&U your friend Ryan.
Nice mini tour of New York. I really have to make the effort and visit I would love all the art galleries and Central Park looks so beautiful. Congratulations on the interview, that is a big deal I’m pleased for you, you deserve the success. It’s funny that I find I wear my Explorer more often than any other watch especially at work because it flies under the radar and doesn’t scream look at my Rolex! But honestly I think I prefer my Submariner, but I do love my Explorer.
Recent subscriber here. So happy to have found this channel! Will be buying my first luxury watch next month! Cheers TGV!
Thank you Jeanluc and welcome aboard!
Very glad to have you with us and happy hunting on your first luxury watch.
Best regards,
TGV
Thank heavens for nyc parks ! To keep your sanity!
Another great video. Loved the bit on central park.
Thank you Vlad :D
Lots more to come helpfully.
Best regard,
TGV
He has found his 1 ring to rule them all. I am still searching for my precious...
Another historic NYC site to visit would be Rikers Island. Located between the Bronx and Queens near LaGuardia airport, the views are like nothing else on earth and the fragrance of the East River wafting on the breezes through the historic architecture is unique and unforgettable.
Pack a lunch though. The local facilities tend to be crowded.
