  • In this video I share an exclusive, behind the scenes tour of one of the most epic collections of American and Swiss watches. We'll take a look at a watch that was owned and worn by Elvis Presley, timepieces that helped in over forty space missions and put men on the moon, military watches worn in World War I & World War II, and some of the rarest and most iconic Bulova and Accutron watches over a century. Most impressive and truly amazing is where they are all kept-in a private museum inside the beautiful Empire State Building. Join me for this fun travel vlog from Philadelphia to New York City, for an all-access tour that any true watch enthusiast is sure to enjoy.

Seiko also has made some mechanical watches made for blind people in the 60s and 70s. They had a low beatrate and high torque spring so the user could touch the hour and minute hand without affecting the time keeping too much.

One of those rare examples of a company doing something more to benefit public good than to make money. Like when Volvo invented the 3 point seatbelt in 1959 and left the patent open because it would save lives if their competitors could use it too.

Wonderful! 10 years ago I purchased a Bulova Watch to help me heal after losing my wife of 23 years as I would see the new Bulova on my wrist and feel a little less sad noticing the indentation on my ring finger where my wedding ring used to be. Now Because of you TGV, I have even more history and enjoyment to connect to my watch. Thank you for this wonderful video. 👍🏽

My stepdad was Managing Director of Bulova Far East and also Africa from the mid 1960s thru about 1980. I spent my childhood living in Hong Kong and Johannesburg learning about watches and visiting his offices where they did repairs and customized pieces. He brought home cases of watches to be considered for production as well as new models. I loved it. He has since passed, but I have his personal spaceview and a few others. I have a pretty big watch collection of many brands and the one i get the most comments on is always the spaceview. Epic watch. Love this episode. Nice job Gentry!

This is an incredible love letter to Bulova. A brand with one of the richest histories in all of watches and ESPECIALLY important to New Yorkers like me. It truly is a shame that in past decades the brand has turned its back somewhat on their history and became the “mall watch” we all know, but it seems like they are taking back their history and attempting to become the class act brand it really should be. Thank you for this video and thank you for whatever part in Bulova’s bright future you played by making this.

This was absolutely sublime. Bulova is beautiful as a brand. It seems that they are turning things around from the last couple of decades and coming out with some fantastic new pieces. I would love to see a Bulova original mechanical movement come back instead of the miyota, or maybe a swiss? I would be happy to pay more for a Bulova Swiss Movement. Maybe Citizen will recognise the opportunity to allow Bulova to be Bulova and unleash them from their low cost Japanese mindset.

In 1950, Max Hetzel, a Swiss engineer joined the Bulova Watch Company in Basel, Switzerland.
Ardé Bulova, who was then president of the Bulova Watch Company, asked Max Hetzel to research these new watches. Mr Bulova was concerned that he would lose market share if he was unable to produce watches powered by an electric battery. A fairly straightforward report by Max Hetzel in 1952 ruled that these new electric watches, which still used a conventional balance wheel, did not provide a significant gain in accuracy over conventional mechanical watches. However, his report predicted that the development of the brand new transistor could be the key component of electronic watches of the future.
Bulova began the development of the 'Accutron' watch in 1952 😉

Great video! Bulova is definitely a brand that I never could connect with, just not my style. It was interesting to see they made a watch for the blind. My father is blind and my whole life he always used talking digital watches to tell the time. And even though he lost his sight he still had appreciation for watches. He always made me wear one as soon as I was old enough to tell time. He also knows I'm big into the watch hobby and I guess I have him to thank for it. Besides his talking watches he has one that uses small balls that move around the watch to tell time. I absolutely have a new found appreciation for Bulova now.

So nice to see you out and about again! I had no clue that Bulova had a museum in NYC. Especially not in the Empire State Building. WoW!
As a pilot, the Lindbergh Line Eagle was really amazing. Never even heard or seen that before. What an amazing trip. I would spend hours upon hours in there.
I really liked the tie in to Frank Sinatra. I knew that they had the Sinatra collection now but I had no idea that was historical. Absolutely amazing to see the historical significance brought to light.
TGV, you out did yourself this time! The NASA and government tie in is a rather intriguing aspect of the brand, as well. It never ceases to amaze me how much there is too learn about things like this. When you look at a brand like Rolex that has made such a huge name for itself via marketing that might not always portray actually accurate history and compare it to a brand like Bulova, it is kind of sad that brands like Bulova are not more widely understood and appreciated.
It was really, really refreshing to see the guys in the Bulova museum and how passionate and happy and energetic they were about their brand.
My son is currently saving up for his first watch purchase on his own. He has been smitten by three Bulova watches, mostly due to the Lunar Pilot and the space connections. I have a feeling once he sees this video, much fuel will be added to the fire.
Tristano, this was one of the best videos and episodes you have done to date. Thank you so very much! What a wonderful journey through the history of an amazing brand. Well done! And early congrats again on the soon to be 500k subscribers.
    Onward and upward, my friend!

As a modest Bulova collector, I was inspired by your video and now plan a pilgrimage to the Empire State Building. I just had to stop the video and put on one of my Bulova’s for the duration. Congratulations, and thanks for everything.

Excellent interviewing skills TGV. Allowing both of them to talk and not interrupting them has freed their tongues and opened their harts to talk about their passion. So rare to see this nowadays. Everybody cutting everybody off, putting word in their mouth,... Very refreshing, not to mention gentlemen like from your side. Keep up the good work.

Fantastic video TGV. As I wrote to you in an email a few years ago, I first learned about the Accutron from one of your earlier videos. Because of that knowledge, I was able to spot a near-mint Spaceview in a small town shop shortly afterwards. One of my favourite watches, certainly the most fun one to wear!

What an exquisite knowledge packed tour. Knew Bulova had a rich history, but your clip truly rounded off the hints I had. What an amazing brand. I just ordered a Direnzo DRZ05 before watching this, but Bulova needs to make it any collection for sure. Top notch clip!
