I like the ejection idea for shoulder transfers but I am not sure if I would trust that little port not to get clogged in dirty battlefield conditions , they probably figured that and tested it who knows yet.
The FN 2000 is just wonderfully accurate. I had the pleasure of firing one and could make pop cans dance at 75 yards even firing quickly. I can do that with an AR as well it was just so effortless and inexplicably more fun.
Bought one. Sending it back. They must have paid attention to the T&E model. The one they sent me, after having my money for a year and a half, is a DANGEROUS PIECE OF JUNK. Out of the box the trigger wobbled from side to side and had a sticky pull, and the rail section attached to the barrel sat higher than the receiver rail. I fired 120 rounds of XM80C. 2 double feeds, 4 light strikes, consistent failures to eject (at least 12x brass getting stuck in the special ejection port). It was also a pain in the ass to charge because the bolt would only close half way. But the worse part is that THE REAR TAKE DOWN PIN WALKED OUT WHILE I WAS SHOOTING. Luckily I caught it before potentially getting injured. Unfortunately Desert Tech is not being very responsive to my emails. I posted this because people should know before they buy.
It's more about sneaking the firearm into sensitive areas. A sawed-off weapon can mount a folding/telescoping stock, you (as easily) can't conceal a bullpup. But yeah, I agree that the entire gun law system could get overhauled. Right now we have the worst of both worlds.
APB 28-- You are absolutely right. It's the government; it doesn't have to make sense.... it just has to be enforced by machine-gun toting "agents".....
Love it. A suggestion to the manufacturer would be to offer a 20 or 22"-barrel version/option/upgrade for the .308. Its so short already, no need to cripple the 308 with a 16" barrel. It looks well designed!

it has to do with mud testing/reliability. push trigger bars tend to fail faster than pull in mud/sand tests, which is why you find pull bars in bullpups and handguns like the makarov. however it seems the designers have made a trade off to add weight and complexity to close off the design in order to get a better trigger pull with a push bar design. i am curious how it will function in a mud test myself - i hope Inrangetv gets to do it soon.

I used a Desert Tec 338. Lapua bullpup to take a Nilgai bull in South Texas. A bit heavy but a great rifle! I dropped my bull with a strait on chest shot at 400yrds
The DT. MDR is nice it looks like a solid bullpup... But I still like the size and look of the kel-tec RDB better, the price is also alot nicer. But a well made 308 bullpup would be awsome.
As a US developed/built platform, I hope this rifle does well. I've had some interest since it was announced, but have since owned a Tavor, and now a X95. The ejection system is relatively complex, and complexity works against reliability, in general. Glad DT has built at least one that runs. Time will tell...
Honestly, any torture test video made by the manufacture has to be taken with a shitload of salt. They are actively trying to sell it to people, they can't do that if they show it choking on dirt and mud.
I wasn't trying to criticize the MDR or even say it should be cheaper, I'm sure it's worth every penny. I was just trying to point out there is hole in the market because all the bullpups that I know of are in the $1,700 to $2,500 range. It would be nice to have more options for thouse who love the bullpup but can't quite afford the price. If you love over under shotguns the market doesn't only make available the $10,000 beretta, there is also the $600 stoger. I wasn't trying to start some kind of berating class warfare debate.
Honestly, that issue is a non-issue in this day and age. There are many superior options in AR pattern mags, that if something as trivial as aluminum mags not fitting is a deal breaker, just use different mags. The shear chance of needing a SHTF gun is irrevocably minor, unless you live in a city prone to natural disasters.
MAC - my comment isn't really targeted at this video but more so at all your videos - I just wanted to say that as set in your ways as you appear to be (e.g. The Horrible 40cal. ) I do want to thank you for your support and honest approach to all things " GUN " ! You continue to support all manufacturers and affiliated businesses within the firearms community equally and selflessly- but most of all your honest, objective and thorough research and reporting make you an awesome ambassador for "US" - the enthusiastic gun community!. Speaking personally, you do a great job representing my questions and concerns when it comes to products and subsequently you hold manufacturers and their affiliates accountable to their customers and the firearms community. Keep up the solid work and please continue to be a conduit speaking for "US" and reporting from the producers! Good day sir...I SAID GOOD DAY! - A Fan
Review a long time coming! Glad you finally got to do this one, and thanks for sharing it. Good review, nice depth, nice comparison too. Looking forward to seeing more on accuracy and how the OSS muffler works out.
I really like my RDB. I'm a lefty so I appreciate the rear ejection. Also leaks the least amount of gas when suppressed. The MDR is turning me on too, so I wonder if there is a way to add a thin gasket to the port covers? Hmmm....
Yes, you can. Some tavor users put gaskets and even teflon tape around the left-side ejection port cover. I see no reason that you couldn't do the same thing to the MDR.
The MDR is military quality based on my limited experience. The RFB is fun and mine runs fine, but in terms of the quality of materials used, the robust design and the final fit and finish, the MDR is superior.
The firing pin of my RFB broken after 500 shoots.... and i have a lot of malfunction, not loading a bullet, the empty case didn't eject, out of batterie, blocked charging handle, fire selection blocked (with a loaded bullet and the gun have shoot by itself, once i have placed it on a table...) I love the look of the gun but i wil no one advise to buy a KEL-TEC RFB! sorry for my bad english PS: good video!
I appreciate the reply Tim! Love your videos as I've been here along time. I hear that a lot about Kel-Tec's material. Glad to hear it coming straight from you as well, I appreciate it. I am Canadian and I am looking into purchasing an RFB. Just something about a .308 Bullpup that I seem to be attracted to. Chances are even if the MDR gets approved for us Great White Northerner's, I won't have the money to pick one up so I may have to settle for the RFB. Anyway, thank you again man I enjoyed all 42 minutes of this video.
Remington didn't design new caliber versions in parallel, unlike DT. They may have released the 308 first, but they designed the 5.56 along side it throughout.
Remington actually did but then the AR-15 rush came & the big business higher ups wanted all production switched to AR15. Then, the moved their factory across the country while still keeping up demand of the AR-15 rush. Once that was caught up, they setup their tooling & started R&D again. It's still ashamed they didn't make it all happen at once but they are doing a lot this year on barrel assemblies. Calibers are in the works.
I wonder why all bullpups have a msrp of $1700 and up, is it just because of the cool mystic of that style of gun. Did manufacturers think hey the aug was that expensive the precedent has Been set so all bullpups are going to be expensive. It would be nice to have a bullpups that was around $1000 because nothing says I'm a space pimp from the future and I'm here to party like a bullpup
Poet WP Lack of a large scale purchase to take the sting out of prototyping and development. In the case of other pups you have cost to import a lot of the components along with the cost of setting up and doing business in the US. Other countries also have high tax rates applied to the value of certain goods. Finally it is ok for companies to make a profit, even a healthy profit. The market will ultimately prevail in determining the value.
Nicholas Young There is nothing *truly* innovative about the MDR... Or any firearms in the past 50 years period. Most manufacturers change the shape, add their coatings, tweak a few things, reduce weight, try to tighten groups but nothing is just a huge leap forward. For example... if you compare the firearms industry (what small arms are capable of doing) from the 50's Vs the computer industry from the 50's Automobile industry from the 50's Mobile communications from the 50's Aerospace from the 50's Compared to those... small arms have not don't shit!
Nicholas Young Disagree all you want... doesn't mean I'm wrong. Take a 75 year old design from a firearm... it's still relevant today. Take a 75 year old design of a computer is it relevant? A 75 year old design of a cell phone... 🤔wonder where you can find one of those... You pull out a cell phone that's 10 years old today... it probably wouldn't be able to connect to the bandwidths phones are running on now. Take a 100 year old design from an aircraft and match it up to something today. Take a 75, 50, 25, 15, 10 year old gun design... *VERY LITTLE* has changed. Now maybe from flint lock, to pump/lever action, to revolver, to repeating there are steps of innovation... but that's over 300+ years!!!!! First of each types of firearms are innovative... but the MDR is not. It's a new shell with a design and function that has been used over and over. It literally does nothing that has not been done before (that's a relevant improvement). The bottom line still is... firearms are a slow changing field compared to agriculture, medical, technology, aerospace, logistics, & many many more. That's the undeniable truth.
Tim, I love the channel and liked the longer vid. I just get so angry watching your video's since I cannot own a rifle like this in Cuomostan (NY State).
We need to start a releaf organization for NY and CA residents. The sad fact is that in both states, many folks in the northern parts are actually pro-gun and 2nd. Its the south that drags everyone down.
I bought the FN and the Ruger 5.7 because of Splinter Cell, lol. Keep up the great work! Been to Copper Custom, great customer service! 👍👍👍I’m only 45 minutes away.
Thanks for the very thorough and informative review. We've been waiting a few years for that but it's good that Desert Tech took their time and got it right. The multi-caliber is interesting but on the downside it does tend to make a 223 bullpup rather heavy when it also must function properly with 308. Kudos to Desert Tech for the innovative method of ejection. I like the way they maintain control of the piece of brass at all times. That's something that industrial engineers try to do when designing Industrial systems. It makes for a very reliable system.
MAC, when you get one in stock can you put some rounds on paper so we can check out the accuracy? One of the main complaints folks have about the x95 is the accuracy. I'm curious to see how the MDR does in that area. Thanks
I LOVE this rifle, it's so configurable, unique and FULLY ambi! I hope they're true to their word of providing barrels for those of us who'd like to be able to swap.
What are your thoughts on that empty casing remaining in the rifle after the last round is spent? Is it a subject of concern? Or just a quirk of the gun to get used to?
A lot of folks have been waiting for this, I'm happy that its now available for them. I struggle to buy into the hype of this and still struggle to recognize why grown men have been seen swooning over the idea of it. It doesnt strike me as unique, or particularly special for something (tho its totally possible that I'm missing something obvious). Not saying it's bad, as it's not. It works and does what its supposed to do. Reliability, accuracy and all-- that's what counts, and it looks like it has it. The ejection system seems too small-parts dependent IMO, and I suspect that if it were a characteristic with another rifle from another manufacturer it would be subject to more vocal suspicion and scrutiny (like the FS2000 which by any accounts I've found works sweetly, but presents as "fiddly" and "awkward". This is not too dissimilar in that aspect, BUT it also looks like it will still work just fine with the ejection covers taken off, so there is that. No judgment either way on my part. I'm sure it's great. I'm glad it's here so's that its fans can now live the dream. I still think the ARX-100 displayed a courageous way with innovation, but because of the physical design, it gets slammed. It's a really good and innovative (admittedly not perfect) rifle.
2250 for a new gun with few unproven concepts that price is quit steep, it is not a SCAR price yet it is a SCAR (not that scar worth it imo) i wish Savage would make some bullpups they make some decent firearms for reasonable price.
40 minutes have never gone by faster. This is the gun I need to get for sure.
That case ejection is crazy to me. So cool. Thanks for the private preview!

The DT. MDR is nice it looks like a solid bullpup... But I still like the size and look of the kel-tec RDB better, the price is also alot nicer. But a well made 308 bullpup would be awsome.
We like the new design of the Desert Tech MDR, it's ejector is a logical function and may very well prevent unnecessary wear. Great review...thanks!
As a US developed/built platform, I hope this rifle does well. I've had some interest since it was announced, but have since owned a Tavor, and now a X95. The ejection system is relatively complex, and complexity works against reliability, in general. Glad DT has built at least one that runs. Time will tell...
One of the best reviews I've seen yet. Thanks for the full walk through.
You should ask Desert Tech if you can put it through the gauntlet and compare it to the Tavor
shaun22sd yeah that'd be nice. But you can also watch their own torture test. It's like the tavor on steroids
I have seen no test of the MDR were they put the MDR in mud dirt or water. anything else short of that isn't a torture test.
Honestly, any torture test video made by the manufacture has to be taken with a shitload of salt. They are actively trying to sell it to people, they can't do that if they show it choking on dirt and mud.
hence why I wanted to see MAC do the test I trust him to be unbiased
OMG!!!! It's about fricken time!! I also been waiting for YEARS....
The Kel-Tec RDB can be had for less than 1,000$.
While you are right about the bullpup price, there are some that are battle proven, and this rifle is not, yet costs just as much.
I LOVE THE WAY IT POOPS OUT THOSE CASINGS.
Splinter cell reference: This guy just became one hundred percent cooler to me
Your grunt proof demonstration is awesome
Very nice! I'm interested to see how the small rifle (5.56 and 300blk) conversions work out. It's an interesting rifle to say the least.
Thank for this review MAC, very well done. Can't wait to see your accuracy eval!
Thumbs up just for the Splinter Cell reference.
MAC - my comment isn't really targeted at this video but more so at all your videos -
I just wanted to say that as set in your ways as you appear to be (e.g.

Your Marine is showing, Tim
9:25 what happened to the last casing?? I didn't see it eject?!?!?
RIP RFB. Hello MDR
The MDR is military quality based on my limited experience. The RFB is fun and mine runs fine, but in terms of the quality of materials used, the robust design and the final fit and finish, the MDR is superior.
The firing pin of my RFB broken after 500 shoots.... and i have a lot of malfunction, not loading a bullet, the empty case didn't eject, out of batterie, blocked charging handle, fire selection blocked (with a loaded bullet and the gun have shoot by itself, once i have placed it on a table...)
I love the look of the gun but i wil no one advise to buy a KEL-TEC RFB!
sorry for my bad english
PS: good video!
Anyway, thank you again man I enjoyed all 42 minutes of this video.
ransisua Not for the US military, has no forward assist.
My rfb was rip the minute I bought it, such a mistake
That shell ejection at 10:09 was so cool lol
Hopefully this won't be the second coming of the ACR.
Kennard Lang I don't think this rifle will be nearly as popular as the ACR, pretty cool thoufh
Kennard Lang
I would think so... it's asking a lot for a small company.
If Bushmaster/Remington couldn't commit...
Time will tell.
ACR still has a lot of support. MDR was inspired by the ACR.
Second time reviewing this vid. I'm sold. Being a lefty with a disability, this can be my new hunting rifle.
I've avoided this vid forever because I know I want one and can't afford it.
@10:51 ... It's nice to know I'm not the only one who anticipates the recoil of a firearm
Nicholas Young god dang right...thank you for the future of weapons technology BTW
KSG is under $1k
Tavor is under $1400
PS90 (non tri rail) I got for $1050
RDB is right around $1k
RFB is a little more than $1k

There is nothing *truly* innovative about the MDR...
Or any firearms in the past 50 years period. Most manufacturers change the shape, add their coatings, tweak a few things, reduce weight, try to tighten groups but nothing is just a huge leap forward.
For example... if you compare the firearms industry (what small arms are capable of doing) from the 50's
Vs the computer industry from the 50's
Automobile industry from the 50's
Mobile communications from the 50's
Aerospace from the 50's
Compared to those... small arms have not don't shit!
Nicholas Young
Disagree all you want... doesn't mean I'm wrong.
Just wanted to say thanks for getting me on freedom munitions saves my wife and I a headache because we can get great ammo at affordable prices.
So weird when that last empty case doesn't come out...
I really love the innovation Desert Tech put into this rifle. I'm looking forward to accuracy testing.
I wonder what that would look like with a 26 inch barrel in 308 with a longer hand guard.
Dumb. That's how it would look
Desert tech hit the mark in my opinion. A bullpup that gets everything right
Tim, I love the channel and liked the longer vid. I just get so angry watching your video's since I cannot own a rifle like this in Cuomostan (NY State).
I couldn't live in a ban state. It would drive me nuts.
Move. I did & my life is way better.
We need to start a releaf organization for NY and CA residents. The sad fact is that in both states, many folks in the northern parts are actually pro-gun and 2nd. Its the south that drags everyone down.
Very cool! I appreciated the detailed look at the MDR & seeing how the ejection process works.
I love you Mac. Been readying my popcorn for this video for a long time. Thank you for your great effort and time!
Thanks for watching.
I bought the FN and the Ruger 5.7 because of Splinter Cell, lol. Keep up the great work! Been to Copper Custom, great customer service! 👍👍👍I’m only 45 minutes away.
how come this one works and the one InrangeTV got in 2018 was a lemon...?
The one Garand Thumb got was a total P.o.s.
Thats what I'm wondering...I think because they over complicated the gas system in the first run of the production model.
@@dontfallyoumighthurtyourse4694 Hopefully flannel daddy gets to review a working model
Money Talks as they say.
Inrange got an updated one that seems to work better
Thanks
A big thumb up from Brazil for you! This rifle looks pretty nice.
41 minutes!!! How do you expect me to watch this while my boss isn't looking??????
Cool rifle though.
A Stang hahah
Become the boss. Then you can close the door and put a "meeting" on your calendar.
Great look, first video I've seen on it and I feel like I know how it works. Great job MAC
Im sold! Ive been looking for cheaper and smaller SCAR alternative.
The ejection is so simple it's a wonder no one has done it before (to my knowledge). MDR is definitely on the must have list.
#makesplintercellgreatagain
#bringbackironsides
Red Reaper Damn right PALAYA
chaos theory was the last real splinter cell game.
I see no issue with it, at least not yet.
Was about to ask the same question.
Surely its no big deal. To clear it you just run the bolt a second time.
I will admit seeing that spent brass hit your wrist did bring back memories of the Kel Tec KSG.
IT CAN POOP BRASS BUT CAN IT POOP STEEL
FromPlsNerf this is a big question I have myself.
So cool seeing them extract forward in slow motion
This thing really reminds me of the BR55 from Halo.
DUDE!!! I WAS THINKING THE SAME THING! lol. Imagine putting a carrying handle and a small optic on top of it. That'd be pretty sick.
I always thought the Halo Battle Rifle was based on the SAR-21. They even say it's made in Singapore.
Excellent review, very informative. I have had a long standing interest with the MDR. Thank you.
It would be the greatest if you could do a maxim 9 torture test
What an awesome rifle, I saw a review on another channel and it was shooting less than a minute @ 100 yards, wish I could afford one.
I like guns.
bmotx I would venture to say I love them. I love guns
bmotx ditto
Keltec RDB baby 👍
muh constitution the SACRED text.
This seems to have a lighter recoil than RFB btw.
Excellent video work. So clear, it's like I was right there.
2250 for a new gun with few unproven concepts that price is quit steep, it is not a SCAR price yet it is a SCAR (not that scar worth it imo)
i wish Savage would make some bullpups they make some decent firearms for reasonable price.
I creamed myself when you mentioned Sam Fischer. Another reason I love your channel.
