@1:26 Those are some clean first shots! And follow-up shots to limit animal suffering (and the possibility of not finding it later since it won't be able to get far).
I know I'm only stating the obvious... but some people don't understand and/or have no experience. They have no experience in the real world -- just the one that's been made for them.
Oh we will have our share of stupid comments. The guides will always tell you to shoot a Nilgai until it’s down. They are TOUGH and rarely fall to one round. But the ninja brigade will be here soon.
very true....when you took one a while back with a 300 win mag you got lucky to put it down with just 1 shot. People that have never hunted them don't understand how tough they are. One of the guides put it as trying to take down a horse with a 22lr when they are hopped up on adrenaline.
Jeann van Rooyen If your logic were applied more often in our society civility would abound. Many people don't seem to understand that you can have differing views and still be respectful. Thank you.
Glad to hear that the MDR+OSS combo work well. I have had my MDR since mid february and love it, it was just really unpleasant to shoot suppressed with my spec war until I got a hold of the updated gas valve. I am currently at month 8 or 9 of waiting for my HX762 stamp so this video is making me more anxious to receive the call for my stamp.
I love my mdr. Got it last week. Had to preorder it for 9 months with eurooptic. Worth it and easily my fav rifle. Glad I waited a few years and researched before putting money down on it. It has been flawless with 147gr pmc and p mags. Mag release was very stiff out the box but has broken in well. Has a trigger feel as good as my giessle sd-c. Really they are coming out there. You may have to look online. Your local bubba, second cousin gun shop that you visit once a quarter of a year might shockingly not stock them. Look around. They're worth it!
The failure to eject the live round from the MDR at 18:46 is not the guns fault. The MDR has a scissor mechanism the pushes the case over into the ejection chute, before it is pushed forward and out by the bolt going forward. The scissor mechanism requires a good amount of velocity to get the case to push over at the right spot. I've had an MDR since march and can tell you if you ride the bolt like that you will induce this malfunction every time. If you slingshot the charging handle like an AR it will cycle as intended, smoothly launching the round forward and out.
I am so pumped about OSS. But the process of winning me over took a year. This by far is the best full throated explanation and demonstration of the can. I am also rethinking my love of my AR10 and my FD12, as to going Bullpup on 308. That MDR is a beast. I noticed your follow shots were dead on. BZ. Subscribed.
Military Arms Channel *Great Video* I have this same can coming for My X-95 *I have a Neighbor that complains of noise everytime I shoot* Exciting to see how quiet that x-95 was . Thanks
Hey thanks! Totally convinced me to go with the OSS instead of the over the barrel AMTAC that DT recommends. Also I have to mention that your observation of a dirty suppressor getting quieter is due to thermodynamics of carbon particles sapping the heat off the gasses and distributing it evenly across its raised surface, PV=nRT the more the temp goes down the more the pressure drops in each zone of the flow aka less energy emitted as sound.
Wow, pretty impressive results on the 5.56 can! I'd like to get into shooting suppressed and have always been impressed by the OSS design.EDIT: The 7.62 can was just as impressive.
So glad that you are mentioning that suppressors are used to reduce the level of noise at the shooter, to prevent hearing loss. As you mentioned, that supersonic crack still travels down range and will cause animals to run off in a hunting scenario. Maybe something to test is the noise levels down range, suppressed vs unsuppressed.
One fact to note regarding the taper-- standard thread profiles by nature are not square to the bore. A square shoulder is necessary to tighten the item square. The taper ahead of the threads solves not just the squaring of the can, but the fouling as well. Kudos to OSS. And kudos to MAC for this detailed presentation.👍
Andrew Duffey I'm so disappointed that he didn't test it with that slick ADM pistol build! I really hope he releases some test data with the 300 blackout pistol, coupled with a silent capture buffer assembly.
Some Dude Me too. But then again, if he's getting those numbers in .308 you know it's going to be quiet in .300blk. Would have still like to see the numbers though. Especially because I'm doing a .300blk pistol build right now myself.
I sold my X95 because my Silencerco Hybrid made it so gassy I couldn’t breathe and it rang my ears. Now I’m wishing I would have seen this video! Now I want another X95 and that can!
I just bought a Helix 762 QD today because I trust MAC and need a suppressor that runs well without having to tune the gun. Hopefully within a year I’ll know if it lives up to this video.
Possibly the light carbon build up on the internal surfaces, that doesn't get flushed through the can when shots are taken, increases the surface area by making lots and lots of micro bumps which slightly increases the drag on gases, which in turn makes it quieter? A lot of great thought has gone into the OSS cans.
I’d love to see you do a side by side OSS vs a baffle can on the same host (basic DI AR15) at ear vs muzzle. Hard to believe if it’s actually better at the ear without a real, fair comparison!
Theres an open season on coyotes in Florida with no bag limit. Every year we lose some chickens to them, my most effective deterent was buying a pit/mastiff mix.
Really wish I had one of those OSS suppressors, mine has tons of back pressure and makes clean-up a real pain on semi-autos. Doesn't seem to induce any malfunctions when used on the correct (lowest) gas setting but cleaning after 500 rounds is a bear. God forbid you shoot it with a brake though - with good foam ear plugs even one round was ear splitting and I doubled up ear pro. Suppressed is the way to go on bullpups and SBRs, no question. I've got the updated version of the MDR - the new gas system and wider extractor. I've NEVER had a malfunction - the gun just runs like a top. I have found that when manually ejecting a live round you do have to rack it with authority to get it in the ejection shute, but that's a training issue - plus if you screw it up you can just rack it harder and it clears up. I'm just over 1000 rounds now and still no problems - and on the right gas setting it's much easier on brass than an AR-10. I slicked up the trigger with a stone and some mothers mag wheel polish and it's great now - feels about like the same you'd get from slicking up a milspec AR trigger, so good but not a match type thing. It's a shame the early roll-out of this gun had issues (but most new designs do) because it's fantastic. Mine HATES M80 ball, shoots it into like 3.5MOA....but Gold Medal match or my own handloads with 168 gold dots shoot sub inch from a rest or bipod, easily. It's a GREAT hunting gun with a can on it. Short, compact, good balance, easy to carry, reliable - 7 coyotes, 4 porcupines, 2 deer and 3 hogs so far, and it's functioned equally reliably regardless of the outside temp. As soon as I find an inexpensive FMJ that shoots acceptably, I'm taking it to a Gunsite battle rifle course. Hopefully I can find such a round. I measured the chamber and it's long....clearly cut for the heavier boat-tail rounds like the GMM - so a lighter FMJ would have to be loaded to magazine length to be accurate, I suspect. It's also probably why despite the high quality barrel, most factory stuff seems to shoot closer to 2MOA - the barrel is certainly capable of more with ammo of maximum magazine length. I don't know if anybody does that in FMJ...
The original Helix 5.56 can works really well on the original Tavor as well which are overgassed to begin with so it's nice not to eat crap every time you shoot it.
Question:. How does the flash hider self torque with right hand threads, while the can self torques with left hand threads? Correct me if I am not correct, ai believe the only self torquing is the left hand thread between the muzzle device and can, which is due to the directional ports on the end.
So rule of thumb on suppressors is that the type that cause more back pressure is best on closed actions like bolts & single shots, then on semi autos its best to use suppressors that cause forward pressure....correct?
In case you're thinking of OSS suppressors... TLDR; I had to pay $300 to replace a $2K suppressor and was given a replacement worth $500 after years of fighting with customer service. Worst customer service experience of my life. About 4-5 years ago I bought a brand new OSS suppressor because I was so excited about a suppressor that could: 1) bring a 5.56 within hearing safe tolerances And 2) work on both 5.56 platforms and 7.62 The first red flag I should have caught was at the store when the clerk expressed confusion at how a suppressor could legally advertise swapping innards without breaking ATF rules. Well, he was right - it turns out that their system they promoted for swapping calibers did in fact break the ATF’s rules and they were ordered to stop selling them… AFTER I had purchased mine. I spent $2000 in total for one suppressor, with the expectation of later purchasing the parts for my 7.62. It was a high price to pay, but no one else was bringing a 5.56 down to safe hearing range without causing blowback issues - and I was single, so I had no problem blowing my money on it. The trouble started immediately after my first outing with it. Sure, it brought the sound down, but how the heck was I supposed to clean that thing? It had a bunch of strange, impossible to reach innards and there was no manual or online instructions so I emailed OSS for help. They told me to use fireclean and a brush and that “It is very user friendly and user serviceable” - it was not. I reached out to them one other time and they couldn’t provide any other information and were a bit insulting as the rep acted as if I were idiotic for not being able to clean the piece, despite it having several layers that no brush can reach. The second, and larger issue I had was a year later, when I started looking for the pieces to purchase to run it on a 7.62. At this point I found out that they were already on to their next generation and the innards for the 7.62 were nowhere to be found. I believe I reached out to a sales rep at this point and they just told me point blank that they weren’t allowed to sell those any more and I was out of luck. Dismayed, but too young to know that I should be fighting for some type of reparations, I sadly gave up immediately. A year or two later, however, I realized what a crappy deal I had been given - I spent $2K on a product that certainly was not as advertised and got no concessions from the seller. With some more experience under my belt in dealing with problems like this, I started contacting OSS again. At this point they had changed hands, but with any company that’s acquired you acquire all of their responsibilities just the same. Finally one of the customer service reps said they could help me out by milling out the suppressor so it could be fired from either caliber. I gave him the info he needed for the RMA and a full 2 MONTHS later he responded asking for pictures of the suppressor and then NEVER AGAIN responded to emails or phone calls. I let some time pass by, but then at some point I was back home looking at the can and I realized that the can itself said 7.62, despite the bore only fitting 5.56. My curiosity and frustration rekindled I tried again, this time insisting on speaking to a different rep. This rep informed me that I could bore it out like the previous one had suggested, but that I’d need a special thread converter that would thread UP from 1/2x28 to 5/8x24. One major problem with that, besides a conversion like that not typically being safe and there only being one or two odd manufactures of that type of part, is that it would need to somehow specially fit underneath the sheath of this suppressor (it’s an over the barrel suppressor) and they gave me no guidance on how to get that part manufactured in that way. Essentially the part didn’t exist and wouldn’t be safe or reliable if it did - so I pressed him one more time, preparing myself to sue if they didn’t make some effort to solve my situation. Finally, when I think my problems are over, the rep tells me that they’ll give me one of their previous gen suppressors for free if I pay the transfer and tax stamp! I think I’m in the clear, I’ll have the old $2000 suppressor that shoots 5.56 and a newer $500 suppressor for free that shoots 7.62, fulfilling their originally promise of providing me multi-caliber functionality…. And then the rep tells me they’ll only give me the newer, but much cheaper suppressor if I SEND THEM MY OLD ONE TO BE DESTROYED despite it functioning properly, just on a subset of calibers from what they had promised. I try to reason with them, but they refuse to let me keep the old one in order for them to solve the problem that they created. My only other option at this point was to sue, and the plane ticket back to Utah to take them to small claims would cost more than the $300 for tax stamp + transfer fee so I decided to let this go and move on, but not without promising to let others know what happened.
This is probably a stupid question ... but, does no one make a set of hearing protectors with a built in dB meter? Looks like that'd be better for data collection.
I don't. Those calibers don't appeal to me. Jason had a .458 that kept cracking bolts so he got rid of it. That's more his kind of gun than mine, and even he's kind of lost interest in the thumper calibers in AR's.
Copy that. I was looking at 458 originally but was told if I go with one, do the 450 instead because it's more accurate at further ranges. Not long range, just more than the 458.
I'd really like to see the OSS HX762 tested on an RDB. By the way, for anyone interested Prepper Gun Shop has the OSS HX762 on sale right now for $449...5 left. I'm so damn tempted.
How does the new one compare to the old generation performance wise? I can’t afford a lot of cans and bought the old multi cal OSS when they were on sale for $400. So only $600 after tax. If I bought the new multi caliber one it would be over $1200 total
Any idea of RPM on the full auto 7.62 version they're marketing to the military? This combination gun, the suppressor, and type of optic seem to be highly optimized on trade offs compared to most setups. Good sweet spot.
Damn...now i have to decide between these new OSS suppressors and the YHM Resonator. I also have a theory for the dirty suppressor being quieter. Obviously carbon is going to build up on the inside of the suppressor after use, I wonder if that carbon acts almost like sound deadening foam in a recording studio and works to absorb some of that sound?
Legbiter 14 I've heard the opposite. The original OSS company was an absolute mess and had a ton of issues when it came to actually producing and distributing products, whereas the new management is doing a lot better at actually getting working stuff out the door. Do you have any more info around this? I'd like to research more. I might just say screw it and go with a YHM Resonator anyway. Thing's so cheap and works pretty damn well from what I've been seeing.
Griff Idk, the original guy was a Ranger I think who hired primarily veteran staff and then new management or something started firing them so he left. He mentioned corporate greed in a statement.
Get the OSS!!!! I currently have 5 and am waiting for the tax stamps to clear on 2 more. I have started selling my old rifle cans that are not OSS. THESE CANS WORK!!!! I use them on 7.62x51mm, 5.56x45mm, 6.8 Rem SPC, 5.7x28mm, 300 Blackout, and 300 Win Mag. Also on 22LR, but not dedicated to the wrapon. I have them on FAL, AR15 in 5.56 and 6.8 both by LWRCI, and one that gets moved around. On my PS99 SBR super quite. 300 BLK subsonic is scary quiet, almost like Hollywood, on full power loads it's really nice. The 300 Win Mag is a bolt gun from Weatherby, you get a good pop out front but almost nothing at your ear. Can't wait to get the AR in 300 Win Mag to see how it works on semi auto. These are amazing suppressors. The only "bad" comments I have heard about them is the price. They are not cheap, but they are well worth the money.
Legbiter 14 maybe that's why it's a better company. Just because he has a certain background or hired certain people doesn't mean the company is going to run well. What he sees as greed could be seen as efficiency. For all we know you could be right, but I'll let the other products speak for themselves.
Why is it that you could walk up touch the target, and look through the thermal and see your hand print, but when the bullet hits the steel it does not give a heat sinature?
I would love to see back to back numbers with the oss vs its competition I'd also love to see numbers on the 30 cal can on a 556 ar I'm seriously considering getting the 30 cal so I could put it on my ak's (another application I think would be awesome to see) but it'll live mostly on my ar's Thanks man great video as always been watching since before you had those fde Mac polo's lol
Do you still have that Fulton M14? Do you think you can put the OSS on it? Suppressors on those rifles can be pretty eye watering from what I read and I'm curious to know if it can help with that. Like if someone had one of those suppressors and decided to put it on instead of getting the adjustable gas plug, getting the gas spindle modified or buying and installing a blank adaptor's breech shield.
Neat, thanks for at least considering it! Now to photoshop that muzzle device onto the rifle as if it had the delta p adaptor on it to consider aesthetics and to see of the bayonet might still fit if it had the bayonet lug.
Any chance on doing a sound meter video on that 300 BLK pistol setup with the new OSS can? Love the looks of that rig, and was just wondering how the OSS can does with 300 BLK. Great video as always, Tim!
I've been waiting for you to do an MDR 7.62 with an OSS for months. So happy. And, I have a request for your next installment. I absolutely want to see you do an MDR 5.56 with an OSS, but I really want to see you do an MDR with a 6.5 creedmoor conversion with your new 7.62 OSS can. In my opinion that might be the most awesome combination for an assault rifle with a full house round ever devised. 6.5 creedmoor might also take care of the 140 dB seesaw issue.
I hope you will meter the new OSS suppressor on an AR-10 type soon. I wonder if the placement of the ejection port farther back is giving you higher readings at the ear...
Any idea how this stacks up to the ng2 defense maxflo 3d? They seem to have the same concept of little to no back pressure but completely different ways of doing so.
@1:26 Those are some clean first shots! And follow-up shots to limit animal suffering (and the possibility of not finding it later since it won't be able to get far).

There's no suffering involved when you're hunting coyotes or wolves.

What catches my attention is that the brass rolling around on the table is still shiny. I’m used to filthy brass from a traditional suppressor.

Mrgunsngear Channel so your gonna have a review for me to see soon?
Mrgunsngear Channel hey where did you find one in stock ?
3Gunner LGS in Washington has them and ships

Great Video Tim. I've been wondering when people would start reviewing the new OSS cans. Glad you (A very trustworthy source) were one of the first.
I hate all the hoops and waiting period you have to go through just to get a suppressor. But still ordering one none the less.

Nice to know that someone else other than myself gets the flu in the middle of summer like a crazy person.
he was so hyped up when he talked about those thermal sights...
“Self-Torquing Muzzle Device...” WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE! 🇺🇸
That is a awesome Silencer Tim and a very cool setup you got their bro.

Been waiting for this video since the last one with the MDR prototype
Great review I’m sold on both the gun and suppressor 🤩
SIG also used taper mount.
In fact, it was probably the first one to use taper mount in suppressor.
My jealousy level is off the charts right now.
The original Helix 5.56 can works really well on the original Tavor as well which are overgassed to begin with so it's nice not to eat crap every time you shoot it.
I'm really interested in the OSS cans - thanks for the update! Nice MDR :) Congrats on that one
Amazing video as usual, Tim! Looks like you’ve been having a great time as of late! That’s what I like to see!
I would like to see the oss on your 17s. Nice video as always bro.
Very cool rifles!! Nicely pared with those cans.
Always a good day when you release a video. Wish you could have one out everyday. I understand you can't, but a man can dream.
I wish we could shot and edit them that fast!
I think we all do but hey, we appreciate what you can do. Keep them coming MAC. I'll be a sub for life.
Sounds like a heavy trigger , beautiful looking rifle .
you have had the production MDR for a year and no dedicated video!!!??

Such a tease. I really wanted to see/hear the 300 BLK with the Helix.
Still great video.
The sight and especially the gun interest me more.
How does the 5.56 OSS can suppress on a standard AR-15?
Superb.
Military Arms Channel recommend it on an ARX - it eliminates piston pop.
show us?
Would love some more videos on the MDR and the IR scope. Love that setup!
My grip setup is the same as your. Black grip with FDE panels.
Love to see this on your HK MR762 to see how it performs
You should do a comparison between the Hx-qd 7.62 and the previous Gen IFM6 7.62. On your IFM6 video the 308 AR was getting readings of 136-138db
So rule of thumb on suppressors is that the type that cause more back pressure is best on closed actions like bolts & single shots, then on semi autos its best to use suppressors that cause forward pressure....correct?
The way the gas vents out the front makes it look like you’re shooting a very loud super-soaker
The *BEST* youtube channel!!!!
It will be interesting. Old school battle rifle, the G3, with the OSS silencer.
Great video, looking to get these for department guns. Please add in some accuracy testing as we are looking to put these on GAP 10's.

Great video! What light do you have on the x95? Thanks
This is probably a stupid question ... but, does no one make a set of hearing protectors with a built in dB meter? Looks like that'd be better for data collection.
Thanks MAC
Do you have plans to review a 458 socom or 450 bushmaster?
Can the 7.62 can be put on a 556 rifle using a different mount?
I'd really like to see the OSS HX762 tested on an RDB. By the way, for anyone interested Prepper Gun Shop has the OSS HX762 on sale right now for $449...5 left. I'm so damn tempted.
what a good looking rifle
I'm looking forward to some further testing on this can. I wanted one bad to go on my pws mk216 in 308 but after this video I'm thinking no.
What set up do you use for the shooting tripod? I’d like to try and get something similar to it.
If you still have to wear hearing protection what is the point of the suppressor? Also I would like to know what numbers you get with no suppressor.
As a first time thermal buyer. How does the Flir Thermosight pro pts 536 compare? It’s roughly a grand less than this pulsar. Thanks for any help.
The FLIR has less features, poor battery life and will likely die on you with regular use in a year or two.
Military Arms Channel thanks for the response. I was leaning towards the Flir because of their “10 year insurance” but seems deceiving now
How does the new one compare to the old generation performance wise? I can’t afford a lot of cans and bought the old multi cal OSS when they were on sale for $400. So only $600 after tax. If I bought the new multi caliber one it would be over $1200 total
Sick suppressor.. i really wish canada allowed these
Any idea of RPM on the full auto 7.62 version they're marketing to the military? This combination gun, the suppressor, and type of optic seem to be highly optimized on trade offs compared to most setups. Good sweet spot.
Thanks for the awesome video Tim. Please keep doing more NFA reviews!
Great vídeo! Congratulations
Now this is what i have been waiting for.
Griff Don’t get OSS. It’s not the same company it was. The guy who started the original OSS left and is creating a new company.
You should check out the FN Ballista in .338 Lapua or 300 WIN MAG
Does the old Helix 556 sound just as quiet on a standard Tavor SAR, or is that just something specific to its interaction with the X95?
Does blowing the gas forward effect flash?
Are these heavier than other conventional suppressors and by how much?
I would love to see back to back numbers with the oss vs its competition
I'd also love to see numbers on the 30 cal can on a 556 ar I'm seriously considering getting the 30 cal so I could put it on my ak's (another application I think would be awesome to see) but it'll live mostly on my ar's
Thanks man great video as always been watching since before you had those fde Mac polo's lol
What are your thoughts on direct thread cans vs. QD? Is there a real advantage of on or the other? Is one quieter than the other?
I bet the Keltec RDB, with it's downward ejection... would be even quieter.
I've never considered silencing a M14 but I may.
What grip is on the X95? I like that
It’s their optional pistol grip you can order on their website.
Military Arms Channel that's really sweet. Not much for that space age grip thing
is there a spot to pin and weld on the muzzle device?
Thanks for the brief MDR update. When u get the 556 conversion please do a video. I'm thinking my 2018 tax return may transform into an MDR from CU. 👐
Hey tim what thermal are u running on that rifle
man one thing i always say ..a thermal scope for SHTF is just a must ..lol
Thermals wont work against zombies or Canadians, everyone knows that.
if the x95 is already surprisingly quiet in 5.56 how would it sound in .300 blackout with subsonic ammunition?
What light mount do you have on your X95? Did you cut down your forend panel?
Inforce Light and yeah I cut the panel.
I appreciate the heads up!
My wml 100 lumen has been tight for over a year no issue
I hope you will meter the new OSS suppressor on an AR-10 type soon. I wonder if the placement of the ejection port farther back is giving you higher readings at the ear...
Any idea how this stacks up to the ng2 defense maxflo 3d? They seem to have the same concept of little to no back pressure but completely different ways of doing so.
Can you test more mdr rifle?
How does the OSS compare to standard cans in terms of felt recoil?
There is no perceivable difference that I can tell.
This rifle should be standard issued to all of our U.S troops. Full length barrel in a carbine profile, but keep it in 6.5 or 300 blackout.
Would love to see this go against that sig 762 on your Scar 17. I'm sure your watches would love a little can battle. Keep up the good work.
I think your choosing my first can for me in this video. I do however wanna see how the Comp works alone without the can.
Great video! Always enjoy them. What type of grip are you using on the X95?
It’s an OEM replacement grip on their website.
