That's why so many people are moving to 6.5CM.
@Chris Indermuehle Yes, you have a heavier bullet. Everything is a tradeoff. I've found that 6.5CM is capable on animals like Nilgai where .308 is marginal. Why? 6.5CM digs in deeper to the vitals on that huge well protected animal. I know a great shooter who recently went on a Nilgai hunt with a .308. He made a perfect shot, but the animal lived to run 900+ yards and it took them two days to find it. That same shot with a 6.5CM would have ended differently, IMHO. I will hunt anything in North America with a 6.5CM, I can't say that about .308. Everyone has their preferences though. I love my .308 military rifles. A M14 in 6.5CM would be blasphemous. But if I'm going to pick a caliber today for practicality for what I do with rifles, .308 would be behind 6.5CM.

It is not until they started to do +2 gas and I picked up a 20in +2 gas barrel that the problem was fixed. I wonder how the MDR gas system handles the added pressure of the 6.5 and suppressor.
I’ve been checking out 6.5 creedmoor and 6.5 PRC there still pricey but man they hit hard and accurate, for those who haven’t heard of 6.5 PRC it’s creedmoor magnum big brother precision rifle cartridge
Any chance to test that forward eject, like some bumping it on hard objects, removing it and inserting it over and over again, some test for dust, but not anything brutal just typical stuff like throwing it on grass/dirt? Because every time I see it I have that feel that its just some plastic insert that will fall of after few years... its just look too small... :/
My MDR has well over 1K rounds through it (5.56). The ejection panels are solid steel and have no plastic on them. I used mine a couple months ago at a class at Front Sight, out in the desert just outside of Vegas Nevada and the winds were kicking hard on the second day. Dust was flying all over the place. Shooting prone got the rifle covered on the ejection port side, enough that I had to wipe it off when I got back up in the ready. Not one single failure, rifle worked flawlessly. We did have a couple of AR's fail though, it could have been the dust or just the rifle/ammo/shooter, not sure what the cause was. Overall, everyone was very impressed with the MDR.
Definitely gonna get the conversion once I have the money for the rifle. I'm going for 308 first though because I don't hunt. Just a range guy and 308 is almost half the price... for now. edit: tula can be had for $.24 a round as opposed to $.51.
Doesn't Tula only make steel casing? That stuff will fuck up your gun over time, its very dirty and doesn't burn as clean. My AKM that shoots Tula is always grime covered as opposed to my AR that shoots .223 brass.
Cool rifles, just not on my "anytime soon" list. Saw one at the range not too long ago, and it looked good. They owner seemed a bit frustrated. I didnt ask.
They also stated that the MDRX side eject model was to be a direct competitor to the X95. The MDRX-SE has a higher MSRP than X95, and you can get a used X95 now for 1.1-1.3k. I got mine for 1.2, and there is another in the same store right now for 1.1 in ODG. X95 is superior in 3 calibers; 9mm, 5.56, and 300blackout.
I love the x95, but it's not superior. The MDR comes in 4 calibers. It's basically brand new to the market and is already slowly coming down in price. So to try and compare prices on a new MDR vs a used x95 is disingenuous.
I compared the X95 new and the MDRX-SE and stated that the MSRP was higher on the DT than the X-95. Then stated that a used X-95 could be had for a good price, so why spend 2x the price when a used X95 is better than a new DT caliber for caliber. Maybe you misread my comment.
Better ballistics and stopping power than the 5.56, lighter than the .308 and more range than the. 300Blk.... In a bullpup? If its reliable, then its the perfect rifle for me.
If you have ar15 you should look into 6.5 Grendel you can buy wolf steel for pretty much the same price as plinking 223 and it has better trajectory than 308. Most underrated cartridge ever. The best intermediate cartridge.
Well, I was having a hard time deciding between the MDRX and the K&M M17s. As much as I like the simplicity of the 17s, heat is going to be a bigger issue than with the MDRX.
Does the 6.5 barrel have the 12 oclock cut for the large extractor? If not I'm done with DT. Love my Covert but the MDR not so much. Mine at least runs now. Recent service stepped up and hopefully it won't crack the frame holes again.....less than 200rds of factory 308 ball.
What do you think of the cissor action denting/ creasing the brass? Did NOT know about this being a nonreloadable rig when i ponied up for 223+ 308 FE Spartan Arms said DT response to damaged cases is a non issues as the book says not to use anything but nickel or brass factory loads. Not happy with there answer. 223 looks like it is being stabed with an ice pick. Do you get this damage as well? So far ive got 40 ice picked ,30 brass (2nd kit with 200 rd 308 brakingin action before this one arrived)) 30steal on 1st kit . It was sent back to DT for ice pick and liping the cases some times ripping the mouth ⅛to³/¹⁶ tord the sholder.
How has the durability been? I've read the polymer cracks and a bunch of other issues. I heard they updated the operating system so that shooting was more reliable but I'm concerned with physical durability too...like the X version?

@@ACGBLR I don't have to push anything, I am stating the facts. Go get pricing, you'll see there is very little cost difference in the ammo. You can dispute it all you like, but it doesn't make it any less true.
@@Militaryarmschannel I don’t think it’s so much the cost difference in ammo which is negligible in my opinion but the cost of replacement barrels which are $539 (from Desert Tech’s website)and you’ll have to replace the barrel 2-3 times in a 6.5 Creedmore for 1 .308 barrel. I’m not saying it’s not a good caliber or gun I just don’t have a need for it.
I have a shooting question. When you are shooting long distance I notice that you don't wrap your thumb around the grip, is there a reason that you don't? Thank you in advance.
It can negatively affect precision shots with thumb wrapped around supposedly. I've never tried it so wouldn't know personally, but enough people do it that it must make a difference to them.
Any tips advice or a link to trying to figure out if my. 308 mdr has all the upgrades or not. First time out I had a stuck case albeit didn't rip the rim.
I guess it depends on what you're trying to accomplish but I've been using 7mm Rem Mag for a very long time. For my intended use, hunting, it shoots faster, it runs flatter, and it hits harder than 6.5 Creedmore. 6.5 is the solution to the problem I never had.
@@coldboremirakle in what way? Granded in 6.5 creedmore, the MDR appears to be sub 1MOA, but the M17s is a 1MOA as far as I can tell. The MDR is rather heavy, the M17s is lighter. Now I know they don't have a 6.5 offering. My question is why are they in different leagues? One appears to be para-military, the other is purely civilian, but does that make a different league in terms of performance (over all)? I don't know.
@@coldboremirakle no. I get that. I was trying to figure out how they shoot, feel, not a feature by feature comparison. Quality of build, that kind of thing. It is not an apple to apple comparison, I get that.
How does it do with gas in the face? I like my AR, but after a mag or so at the local indoor range, my eyes are watering from the spent gas in my face.
What's better over all, the MDR or the Tavor/x95? They are both close enough in price and I want a modern bullpup to contrast with my Retro M16A1. Tavors go around $1.8k and the MDR starts at $2.2k on Gun Broker.
I went MDR, mainly because of the things said in this vid. I can just purchase a barrel and convert it from 308 to 6.5. I have a 5.56 right now and am working on getting a 6.5cm, I may just purchase a .308 conversion kit and another barrel and then I will have three calibers for my rifle without having to purchase multiple cases, optics, slings, etc. Super easy to practice with the cheaper 5.56 and then just switch out for the 6.5 or 308 for hunting. With the Tavor - you get one caliber and that's it.

I wish I could shoot enough to get tired of any caliber! 🤷🏻♂️ Great video. I wish the IWI bull pups would find a solution for their accuracy issues. I hope to add the MDR to the safe one day.
most military guys that talks about Bullpup rifles appears to hate them... and it is not the "Bullpup" they hate about them, it is usually malfunctions and complexity and how delicate they are... in my mind, the companies should not stop trying! a company wants money so they usually abandon the idea quickly... tho if Desert Tech continues improving the rifle using the public as testing grounds, they can fix those bugs over time! not to mention militaries wants more and more out of guns and not all demands can be met all at once... a gun that never miss hot or cold that never jams and weights nothing... dream on!
There are bullpups out there that will smoke other military rifles in reliability. Rifles like the X95 are exceptionally reliable and several militaries use them for that reason. If you're talking about L85's then yeah, they suck. The French used the FAMAS for decades only to swap them out for 416's recently. However, they served quite well. However, most militaries still prefer conventional rifles... and I agree, they serve their purpose very well especially in conscript armies.
I have tried most of the major brands; MSA, Safariland TCI's, Walkers, Peltors (100,300,500,ComTac), Howard Leights, etc. and I choose to go with those you see in the video. I'm wearing ComTac Peltors. They are comfortable, have amazing electronics and unlike my MSA's and TCI's they haven't failed yet.
Have you had a chance to shoot 6.5 PRC? Just curious if the additional velocity would make a difference on 1100 yard steel. Have my eye on a Bergara. Thanks
I haven't. I stick with calibers I can buy off the shelf. If I have to load for it, I don't use it... I just don't have the time anymore. I have 3 presses though!
I pine for the US bullpup that never was the *lithgow atrax...* Since that is not going to be available, I guess the Tavor or X95 will have to do. From what I have seen, the main differences are the control group, except that some people reported accuracy issues with the X95. Anyone else have any info? Or experience with both?
Both rifles, the Tavor (now discontinued) and the X95 are military accuracy with ball (about 3 MOA). They're not precision tools just as the M4 rifle isn't. The MDR and even the Tavor 7 are better suited to getting to 1 MOA with factory match ammo. Thanks for the support!

It is solid steel, and after 10's of thousands of rounds, it still doesn't fall off.
@@gamelord1000 Great to hear it!
@@DesertTechUT I love finding y'alls comments on videos and stuff, its neat to see yall actively engaged in social media
I didnt ask.
solid, nice trace footage!
@@TJack303 I think you misread my comment
I've had my eye on this one for a bit now
Better ballistics and stopping power than the 5.56, lighter than the .308 and more range than the.
How adout recoil at 6.5creedmoor?
I shot only 5.56mm in the army.
so I don't know how much recoil I have
Well, I was having a hard time deciding between the MDRX and the K&M M17s.
I'd love to see you test the MDR-X SE Side Ejection. Maybe that will give it the battlerifle reliability they wanted from the start...
The forward ejecting MDR has the same reliability as the SE.
Absolutely Not A Battle Field Rifle,.....Delicate Design..... Unfortunately.....
I love the look of it!
Check out the "ditches" the 6.5 is digging at 9.50 !
How has the durability been? I've read the polymer cracks and a bunch of other issues. I heard they updated the operating system so that shooting was more reliable but I'm concerned with physical durability too...like the X version?
8:20 Joker's famous "Hi"

I’ve really been looking into getting into the 6.5 for some time now, I think I’ve found it 😍
I'm pretty giddy about this setup for sure. Let's see how I feel in a year after I've gotten some hunts under my belt. I really want to go prairie dog hunting with it to see how it performs. Thank you for the support!
5.56, 7.62, 6.5 creedmore, maybe 300 blackout. Can I get mine in .280 or .303 British, or 50 Beowulf?
Nice shooting Mac! Great review!
Everybody aint sponsored by freedom munition so they can dump 6.5 all day 😂
6.5 Creedmoor can be had for $.51 a round. If you want to shoot something other than Tula 308, you'll spend $.45 a round on military surplus. If you want commercial 308 like MagTech that will run you $.48 a round. The next budget 308 is Armscor at $49.5 a round. So yeah, 6.5 Creedmoor is a real check book crusher. 😂If you buy .308 to shoot at dirt clods in the country side, Tula is fine. If you want to shoot something halfway decent then you're going to spend as much on .308 as you are 6.5CM.
If youve got the time roll your own. Pays for itself fairly quickly.
@@ACGBLR If you're worried about the cost of ammo, I doubt you'll shoot 3k of either anytime soon. As for the MDR, it takes me 2 minutes to swap a barrel. Even as much as I shoot it will take me years to shoot 3-5k out of my MDR.

The 6.5 rounds are awesome
Why do you not wrap your thumb around the pistol grip when your shooting from the bench I’ve often wondered?
It can negatively affect precision shots with thumb wrapped around supposedly. I've never tried it so wouldn't know personally, but enough people do it that it must make a difference to them.
Excellent video mate. Like
Was hoping it would be a bit more tougher in rough conditions!
I like the how those are configured, makes more sense as a duty weapon, but no reason not to hunt with it.
Damn I wish that I had the money for an MDR.
Its tax season. Save up a bit then put it all together and buy it or get it on credit and dump a large chuncky payment so you can pay it off fast.
Any tips advice or a link to trying to figure out if my. 308 mdr has all the upgrades or not. First time out I had a stuck case albeit didn't rip the rim.
Very simple, give us a call and speak with our warranty dept. they can get you figured out.
Bullpups are great to see in action. MAC like to see you review the Jard J68 in 10mm.
I'll check into it.
I guess it depends on what you're trying to accomplish but I've been using 7mm Rem Mag for a very long time. For my intended use, hunting, it shoots faster, it runs flatter, and it hits harder than 6.5 Creedmore. 6.5 is the solution to the problem I never had.
That's like saying a Ford Mustang is competition to a Porsche Boxster.
Tim, what gas setting do you use for your Fed Premier GM 140 GR round WITHOUT a suppressor. Do you have the new 6 position gas setting? Thanks
Curious as how this compares with the K&M 17S bullpup?
It doesn't, they're not in the same league.
I meant Granted in 6.5, etc.
Damon Chesser does the KM switch from 308,6.5,556,300blk, etc?
@@coldboremirakle no. I get that. I was trying to figure out how they shoot, feel, not a feature by feature comparison.
Quality of build, that kind of thing. It is not an apple to apple comparison, I get that.
How does it do with gas in the face? I like my AR, but after a mag or so at the local indoor range, my eyes are watering from the spent gas in my face.
I run OSS, there is no gas in the face. 👍
6.5 is cool but I'm not a 1,000 yard marksman by any means, nor made of $. I'd like to shoot one someday though 😁
9:42 why did you blur your contacts just turn your phone off ot turn it so the screen is facing away from us but dont worry
MDR has a better trigger and more accurate.

Great video. I wish the IWI bull pups would find a solution for their accuracy issues. I hope to add the MDR to the safe one day.
The Tavor 7 in .308 is a 1" to 1.5" gun with match ammo at 100 yards. It's far more accurate the previous Tavors.
Military Arms Channel awesome. I hope they will offer something retro-fit upgrade for the SAR and X95.
How much WOULD you spend on the 6.5 ammo vs the 308? I am assuming three or four times as much, even for match grade...
Just for info, at sgammo 500 rounds of 308 s&b is $270 whereas for the same type of round from the same company 6.5 is only $230.
Match bullets are nearly identical price. People overlook the fact that 6.5 creed has been an established round for about 10 years now.
most military guys that talks about Bullpup rifles appears to hate them... and it is not the "Bullpup" they hate about them, it is usually malfunctions and complexity and how delicate they are... in my mind, the companies should not stop trying! a company wants money so they usually abandon the idea quickly... tho if Desert Tech continues improving the rifle using the public as testing grounds, they can fix those bugs over time!
not to mention militaries wants more and more out of guns and not all demands can be met all at once... a gun that never miss hot or cold that never jams and weights nothing...
What ear pro do you use?
I have tried most of the major brands; MSA, Safariland TCI's, Walkers, Peltors (100,300,500,ComTac), Howard Leights, etc. and I choose to go with those you see in the video. I'm wearing ComTac Peltors. They are comfortable, have amazing electronics and unlike my MSA's and TCI's they haven't failed yet.

Since that is not going to be available, I guess the Tavor or X95 will have to do.
