    I was a kid in the 80s and would do these workouts with my mom. I didn't care about exercise, it was time well spent with my mom. Funny, I haven't seen this in probably over 30 years, yet I can still remember exactly what Jane is going to say.

    That she called this a "beginner workout" cracks me up, it was the most challenging of them all and everyone there is a dancer 😆 it was great fun though.

      This is actually 2 workouts. The beginner one is 30 minutes, the advanced is about an hour. :)

      It's amazing to me that in my teens, I was obese at 120kg and used to do this workout 'effortlessly'. Decades later, I can't bring myself to do the warm-up, and I am at least 50kg lighter.

      ​@@utrelfit's very effective, but it's also challenging. That's why it works. But you always need to be happy to start where you are. It's OK if day one you just do the warm up, or part of it. If you keep showing up, you'll see and feel the progress.

      ​@@homemail9653our bodies change as we age, but she was about 46 here. We can do a lot but we bring our whole lives before that moment with us to the class. Just go slow, be proud of what you do, and stick to it without overdoing it.

    I used to take her class in person in Beverly Hills. Jane Fonda's teachings are at the core of my workouts today. You rock Jane Fonda!

    I love how flexibility was seen as a vital part of being fit in the 80s - almost no one (including myself!) is particularly flexible now.

      Most fitness classes were based around dance classes at first and it just carried over for a long time. Having grown up with this approach, it's bizarre to see thick beasts everywhere who can't touch their toes, lol.

      I'm very flexible and do a lot of workouts like this. But I was also a Muay Thai kickboxer prior to having my son and worked everyday on my flexibility.

      I have to agree. I did this 5x weekly, after school, when I was a chubby teenager and got so damn fit, I started teaching aerobics and then became a trainer. :) I still love these. Every so often I cycle them back into my routine. They're amazing.

    I’m so grateful for this Original Jane Fonda Workout on You Tube. I did this workout in the early 1980’s and was in the best shape of my life. In the past I’ve had a copy of the video and DVD. Now fast forward 40 years and I’m back at it and looking pretty great again! Thanks again!

      40 years for me too, but I'd resurrect this every so often. I do kundalini yoga every morning, but might start doing this for fun later in the day. We both know it works so well. 😊

      Amazing workout. We also had a nordic track ski machine and a mini indoor trampoline in the 80s. All three of those will get you shredded.

    Jane Fonda is the reason I am active, fit and healthy at age 77. Started exercising to this video and was totally hooked to all forms of working out ever after. Even went to the studio on Robertson Blvd, around 1990 though not when Jane had a class.

      I trained with one of her original Jane Fonda trained trainers..Molly Fox. Molly was in NYC in the later 80s where she opened a studio on West 20 St. It was literally the church of Aerobics for several years....total high impact, everyone was downright crazed fanatics (me included lol).

    My suit was a metallic electric blue with white legwarmers and a terry cotton head band. I was in Jane's group in front of the TV and whooped along and sure wanted to outdo somebody. Now I'm looking at this and am glad I did it. It looks silly, but I sure kept my figure and weight. Thank You, Jane!

      @@mehrmakhuram8672 Thank you, so do you ✊. If you’re a woman from this Jane Fonda era, then a whole lot of younger women have A LOT to learn from you about what being beautiful really is. That was the day and age of when you wore tights and leotards. Not for the specific purpose of trying to get attention from us men by merely showing off body parts. But because it was part of creating something of real beauty through aesthetic movement. Like ballet dancers with real class. The vast majority of younger women of today can’t hold a candle to any of you in terms of real beauty.

      @@PassionJo777 You’re certainly welcome and much respect to you, Joanne Marshall. Don’t ever let yourself feel somehow feel inferior to the younger generational women of today because you’re most definitely not. Again, they’re the ones who should learn from you about what beautiful really is.
      I was only a kid during this era but I always wanted to be just like Mikhail Baryshnikov. Not simply because he was extremely successful with courting you beautiful women. But especially because he was a part of creating something of *AWESOME* beauty through aesthetic movement with the women that he danced with. That to me is what relationships between men and women should be all about. Instead, they’ve become much more about power, control, and manipulation and it happens both ways as both men and women now have a whole lot to learn from each other.

    Im 19 yo, from Brazil and i have never seen an 80's workout before. Its INCREDIBLE! The song matching what she says/exercises. The people behind her screaming everytime the workout intensifies. All these things made the workout feel so fun and happy, rather then just doing it for the pure exercise. I'm absolutely in love with it! Thank u

    I discovered Jane back when ! I got down to a 9 petite ! NEVER have i ever been that small .... plus i about starved myself too ! Lol ! I swore I'd be doing Jane fonda till I'm 80 ! Lol ! .... and then , i had another baby and time took another chapter and then a divorce . Now since being with my fiance for going on seven years , I've endured a bad hip that went undiscovered due to no insurance. Then found out later that I needed total hip replacement two years ago . I never thought I'd be able to do her workout again and I'm happy to report that I'm a young 62 yr. Old and I'm FINALLY doing her workout again !!! I feel like I'm gaining a whole new leas on life , !!! .... and you CAN do it too !

      That's so wonderful and inspiring! This workout is very easy to modify as needed, it's based on ballet floor barre and Pilates anyway, so you picked a good one. I don't know you but in still proud of you for doing it!

    jane Fonda was born December 21, 1937. This video was released April 24, 1982, so she was 44 at the time of release.

    I’m 18 and started doing this workout for the fun of it, I’ve noticed myself getting healthier now that I’m about 2 weeks into it and I’m having so much fun doing this instead of any other ordinary workout routine! I told my mom (who grew up in the 80’s) about it and she says she remembers Jane Fonda being a big hit back then, everyone loved her workouts :))

      Your mom is right! I'm 54 now, spent 30 years as an athletic trainer, but doing this when I was 12-13, and then her New Workout and Challenge are why I got into a career in fitness. These are fun and they work so well. It's great that you found this and love it so much.

      Same here, on VHS tapes! I'm "only" 70 and have recently rediscovered Jane online. After the first session I felt as if I had a new lease on life! Keep it up and do the best you can, as I do.

    I remember my Mom working out to this in the 80’s when I was a teenager. I did it a few times with her. She passed away a few years ago. I would do anything to be able to go back to those times.

    In this video Jane Fonda was 49 years old or 50!!! Wow!! So beautiful, positive, full of energy and fit!! Impressive!!! An example!! In 1986 in Lima, Peru, these were the first workout classes in the club I was going as a 16 year old teenager with my sisters and friends. Now, in 2023, 38 years later, I have done this class, it feels wonderful!!! Not easy, energyzing anyway!!! Thank you for posting it 🙂🙂

    This video was the first one I remember as a toddler in the late 80's... my mom used to exercise every day. Exercise, dance or yoga has been with me all my life. I'll take that opening soundtrack to grave... beautiful childhood...😇

      @@katashley1031 Good for you!!! I'm 20 and I love doing her workouts and bess mota's workouts which I've seen a huge difference mentally and physically too! I find these workouts more effective than the workouts today and I'm not a gym person either but people make it seem like everything must be at the gym and thats the only way to be healthy then you see Jane fonda and it brings something different plus I actually enjoy working out now!

    I went to the Maiden Lane "gym" in San Francisco in the 80's. It was an hour and a half workout and I'd come back to work at Saks Fifth Avenue feeling pretty good, but my make -up melted off. Tricky since I worked in cosmetics. Fourty years later I'm lifting weights as heavy as possible, hiking and doing cycle classes. Love it. Will continue into my 80's like Jane, should I be lucky enough to live that long. You da best Jane. A true icon and woman of substance, beauty, resilience, charm and generosity. A heroine of our time.

    My gym teacher had us do this workout daily in junior high school back in 1987. I loved it and am so glad to find it here! This brings back memories of my 12 yr old self getting fit to her workout. Thank you!

      I remember doing aerobics every Wednesday morning in primary school back in 1993. I was always the awkward kid in gym, but I'd been doing Jane Fonda with mum and Mousercise, so aerobics was the one activity we did for gym I just loved! This workout sure does bring back memories!

      Back then they didn't even think like that, it was considered exercise, not anything sexy. This stuff is fantastic for mobility and is only thought of as sexy if you think it is.

    I tried this work out and Jane Fonda explained so well especially the core. Jane Fonda was the first HIIT workout.
    She just know how to explain the body movement!❤

    I used to do this every day for about 5 years in the late 80's / early 90's and then ended up teaching aerobics myself for a while. I looked this up because I remember it as an all-round stretch and tone workout and I was honestly in the best shape of my life when I was doing this... I'm going to give it a go again now and see how far my flexibility has slipped! 🙄

    This is without a doubt my favourite type of workouts to do. Not only have I actually seen improvement from the excercises, however the classes always have so much energy and the time goes by very quickly! I’m always sad once the class ends and it feels like no time has gone by! I wish I was alive in the 80’s just for these workouts, however

      @@tlynn7043 yeah, she also says she regrets the high impact cardio she did, but I'm 52 and it didn't hurt me. Different body types though. She's wiry and more prone to joint issues.

    It seems like a natural, effective but gentle workout, not too many external items used, just breathing and your own body, and stretching.

      Yes, it's fabulous. I'm 53, and these got me started on fitness as a teen, and then I became an athletic trainer. These workouts are still my favorite for my own personal health. They sort of sprang from ballet and dance classes. It's great to see so many people discovering the for the first time now.

    Honestly, I'm in awe of this woman. My very first fitness instructor. I was fit, lean, supple and felt great. She's probably the reason why I still exercise today.!

      This doesn't feature aerobics really. It's ballet class inspired. It gets the heart going no doubt, but aerobics don't feature in her workouts until the New Workout in 1985.

      You can also check out the Workout Challenge and Prime Time (Easy Going) Workout, both from 1984. Challenge has a 20 minute aerobic section but the program, as a whole, is geared for those who are ready to move beyond the Advanced section of this video. Prime Time has roughly 7-9 minutes of aerobics and is an easier workout than this program. It was initially marketed as an easier alternative to the original video. After the New Workout, the videos have aerobic sections that are either entirely low impact or offer the option to do low or high impact.

    I started with Jane Fonda on a vinyl record you followed along to. I credit her for my love of working out to this day. Went from vinyl to VHS to DVD and now I stream all my workouts.
    This brings back so many great memories. I gave up her bouncing stretches ages ago, however😉😉😉😉

      That was my only issue with it, but I FF through it and saw that it 🔚s at 34:04, before repeating twice more. The commenter before me is right that it is three workouts, except the best news is that it is *the same one!* Not sure why this channel duplicated to gain a longer video, but I'm DEF willing to try it now that I know better! She seems to really 🎯 all spots, while also focusing on stretching and flexibility. *GREAT for us Gals❣️* 💯

    I did this as a little kid in the 80’s on laser disk! Then as a teenager in the 90’s I lost weight and got in shape for dance competitions with it! Now I’m 40 and may just try it again! It’s a great workout but also bings back memories💕

    "drag your legs across your face".....my inflexible body could never 😭😭😭😂......such a cool workout though! I will definitely have to try this consistently for a few months......maybe I will be able to drag my legs across my face one day 🔥

      Well, here she only did a minute or two of jogging in place barefoot, the next video had a real aerobics segment. Both videos are fabulous though. I still know both by heart, lol.

    Ok... after following (for years) fitness youtubers like Pamela Reif, GrowingAnnanas, GrowingWithJo and many others, I will try this workout from the 80s. It seems really difficult, but I'll try it. Despite the fact that I'm no longer a beginner for normal workout, I'm definitely a beginner for Jane Fonda's workout 😅

    I don't think I've ever seen an 80's workout video, but this looks like a blast. I love the energy, the poise, the fashion, the music, everything is awesome. I'm a beginner in martial arts and I'm definitely going to try this one, it looks challenging even though Jane is smiling and looking fabulous the whole time lol. Also, I really like the way she says "five", it should be used as a sample in a song.

      These are so much fun and very effective. This is 2 workouts, with the beginner's set being about 30 minutes and the advanced is about 60m.

      This is the video that started the home workout market. I was 12 when this came out, 13 when I started to exercise with it and never looked back. 😊

    Workout video is the very first workout video I ever owned. I did this workout religiously after my son was born in 1983. I was 21. Now I'm about to turn 61 and I'm powerlifting.

    Trying this 30 days. Today is 4/1/24 and I only made it to 22:38. I’m 5’8” and weigh 219 at 30 years old for reference.
    4/4/24 day 4 of doing this workout and I will say day 3 felt harder than day 1. Today however I enjoyed the workout and it’s gotten “easier” despite me feeling as though I had to vomit during the core exercises.

      This workout is very effective. I'm 53, started doing these at 13, and despite being an athletic trainer and trying every fitness approach there is, I always come back to this. It's also just a lot of fun. Enjoy! Sounds like you did great for a first time, go easy, have a great time with it and you will see and feel the results. :)

    When I was a child, my mom used to workout at home watching her VHSses. They were translated and dubbed in Italian, so I remember having a great time watching those videos and listening to Jane (actually, to her Italian voice actress) while mom was working out. :)

      Agreed. I'm a trainer and push pro athletes every day but this is my goto and has been since I was a kid. Now I'm 52 and still love them. They work. And they're fun. Huge missing component nowadays.

    When I was a kid I always watched my mom do her tapes. I think this, along with being an athlete most of my life, is one of the reasons why I’m still active in my 30’s now. Kids mimic and the best way to teach a kid good habits like working out is to let them watch you do it.

    I remember these Jane fonda videos. My mom used to do this. Out of curiousity, I completed one session. I’m tired, sweaty and sleepy. I realized how I’m so not flexible and I la k cardio. I’m the purple lady in the back hiding. 🤣 Loved it. Had fun and I will do it again. Hahaha

    I exercised with Jane Fonda workout when. I was 13 years old , I don’t forget the beautiful transformation it did to me , I am very thankful and lucky to have learned a bout her workouts, after going through all kinds of other weight lifting tough exercises I am now in my forties leaving them all and coming back to Jane Fonda and again I’m seeing instant beautiful changes, her exercises are special they give elongated muscles and beautiful posture ,they don’t harm the knees and I feel happy and positive after completing them she is a legend.. I love her so much , and I wish you now fast recovery 🌸🌷🌺

    In the mid 80's before the vhs it was on a record album. My friends and I would listen as she described what to do. It was the first exercise program I can remember. I tried doing this today and can't get through it without having to take several breaks. Clearly outa shape at 55, determined to do this until I can get through it all the way!

      Well this is 2 workouts, the 30 minute beginner and the 60 minute advanced. Still challenging at first bhut so much fun and so worth it. We had the book, then the record, which my mother still has, and then the videos changed everything.
