Notes from possible confusion in the video: @9:15 - The pliers have a small piece of tape to prevent etching on the shock shaft. Be careful not to scratch your shock shaft when gripping them! @20:30 - The battery leads are soldered to the side of the plugs to reduce resistance and provide a little extra grip when unplugging your battery.
Ryan Harris hey I have no idea how haven’t seen your channel before but I am so glad I did!! I love the positivity and how helpful you are!!! Great job!!
love the video! I suggest that you resolder wire to the battery terminal into the top of it (in the "indented C" area) fill with solder for a much stronger bond, Cheers!!
Ryan, great video on how to rebuild an rc car. I'm new to the hobby but your video has given me a good foundation when it comes to cleaning and rebuilding an rc model.
Haha, Leave it to Ryan to post a video about breaking down and cleaning a car right after I do it! Such informative and well edited videos. I love them. Now I just need to apply all your info to my Slash I'm prepping to race, and go have some fun! Thanks again!!
Ryan Harris Oh it will! I do have to thank you a lot for all your tips and tricks. I've got some new CF parts and an LCG chassis on order to make it handle a tad better. When money is a bit more abundant in my wallet and I have my mode of transportation reliably fixed, then I may venture into Buggy or Touring car racing, but until then, my Slash will do. Go tear up those tracks! And maybe not tear up the car, lol.
Dark godz If I were to do that, I would have to travel over 2 hours to the closest track that runs such cars. My local track runs 2wd sct, 4wd sct, open sct, USGT, Slash spec, and Vaterra Spec. I personally like the heft of the Slash, helps me really feel the car. I dont really mind not being competitive, I'm not doing this to become the #1 racer and gets 10 sponsors, I'm just doing this for fun.
Great video Ryan. Keep some metal dental pick tool thingies on hand, they work great for alot of things but work very good for cleaning packed dirt from screw heads and you won't get the tip of an exacto knife breaking off and flying at your eye ball.
On the diff rebuild portion, it seems that you barely use any of the clear silicone grease. I’ve always packed each ball in a dab of grease in the diff gear. I used to build some of the smoothest diffs back in the day. Now on my modern cars I can’t seem to get them all that smooth even when using new parts and breaking it in. Thanks for the great video Ryan. Can you do an outdoor tire prep video discussing tricks and tips about closed cell vs open cell inserts?
Tip for you my friend when you are tinning the solder leave the rubber on first, tin it, and then take off the rubber. I usually cut it and don’t strip till after I solder, seems to give better looking and more consistent solders.
I purchased the Aluminum Chassis RC10 back in 2008 and YES it is clean. It is still mint. It has never had the Radio System installed or the battery. It still looks brand new, because technically it is.
Good video one of the things that I find helpful when taking my car apart and cleaning, and rebuilding it is you get more intimate with the car and see things that you might not have seen on a race day that are coming loose are worn or damaged.
Thank you! I'm currently taking notes and studying up on rc cars and how to repair them so I can get a job at a hobby shop. This has been really helpful
Iv done a LOT of soldering in my 29 years. My friend, those I'm sure hold fine and they look good and secure.... BUT... they could be soooooooo much cleaner! 😁 thank you for the vids and expertise, I actually pulled out the old 8ight t 2.0 to give it its bi yearly tear down and clean.
Great video, I have retired both of my cars and did exactly the same thing to my old Tamiya and DTM I did soak all the parts in warm soapy water before drying them and giving them a coat of oil before reassembly they now sit on a shelf in my home office.
I bash/ race. I keep all of my rings clean, even when bashing it helps to take the same steps as a race prep. If your car is nicely maintained, you're gonna have a good day
I really like your videos. I see that you are working on both 2wd and 4wd buggies. As someone looking to get back into offroad RC, I would love to hear your thoughts on 10th scale 2WD buggy vs 4WD buggy vs 8th scale buggy. Driving, price of entry, competition level, cost to race, etc. Thank you and thumbs up!
nice detailed video. I simply spray with electrical parts cleaner, take an interior detail brush to everything, and blow with an electric duster (datavac). And if I clean the body I just meguiars ultimate quik detail spray.
Thanks for the Information Ryan! I have a B6.1 that I bought used. But in very good condition. But I'm also going to do a complete tear down and rebuild just like you did. I'll be doing exactly as you did to give it a nice clean look. Again thank you. Cool video.
TIP: 600 then 800 grit sandpaper and a glass surface can recondition diffrings that already had a ring in them. Use the outdrive without the nipple to move the rings in a figure 8 pattern until the groove is gone. This should really be done to new factory diff rings(not the aftermarket ones that are sold as "race ready" but the stock ones are often not as flat as they would be after this process. Also, a Dremel tool with a 1/8" collet has a lower chance of damaging the shock shafts or hung pins. Great video though. Subscribed
I believe that Polishing the Suspension and Shock Shafts, probably did MORE for overall Performance than anything else!! 👍👍 However, I HAVE to say that Wiring Job.... Is Proper and BEAUTIFUL!!! Thanks Carmine 💥 ⛽
Hi There great video I have a question Not sure if you can help I’m looking for F1 RC 1/6the scale chassis line the one you have Any idea where can I find?
I'm unsure if I've been doing diffs correctly now, I always put grease in the bearing holes then put the bearings in but you only put a small amount of grease on the diff rings, have I been doing it wrong ?
Hi Ryan love your vids needed help with my touring car diff 's 4WD when tighten are meant to tighten until they don't rotate opposite way of each other what i'm asking is how tight do you have the belt drive diff ?
hey ryan im loving the vids on your youtube channel. all really helpful stuff but ive thought a a great video topic that id love to see you add to the list. id love to see you talk through all your rc tools and tool box setup that you have in the backround of your vids. info on what you take to the track or leave at home, your favorite tools and most loved tools too. what do you think?
Great video, Great quality and also great speaker! Thanks! Why don't you use bullet connectors for the motor ? are they not recommended ? i see u solder directly the wire from esc to motor Thanks
Good video but gotta ask Ryan, how come you soldered the battery wires to the side of the bullets and not on the recessed bit on top where they are meant to go.?? Just reposted this but then deleted the repost as saw this from a year ago, still unanswered tho, like many question below. 😳
Hey Ryan, I just won an original TLR 22 off an eBay auction and I plan on completely rebuilding it using your method in the video. And I was wondering if the 22 1.0 is still competitive today. Can I race it today in 2018?
hay is it a problem when you have a burned out cluch will it affect the car because i took apart the back of the car and i have my car on 2 of my rear spare tires and i throdling and i seems fine but when i have it on the growned i throdle it and it does not move can you give me some advice
Do you do this every theme you use them? If so then wouldn't the plastic start to wear out. And I could not do this every time it would be way to much work and time.
1. After you polish the metal parts, always clean them with simple green. Metal polish leaves a film and it will infect you shock oil and cause more wear on the contact areas. 2. I use Maxima SC1 on all the plastics and body, it makes them look like new and lasts a longtime
nice ... but old beginner here back from the 70's , yea i said the 70's anyway... wondering how do i choose what kit to buy/ run, thats worthy of competition but beginner/junior class... i kinda like on road kits but see there are more off road guys running.. im in southeast pa ,i bought a few kits to build m05 tamiya v2 pro with a hobbywing xerun v10 3.5 and xerun 120a 3.1 esc and an m06 lowrider pumpkin with a china clone so i'm told ? 3650 ? motor and THSY 120a esc also have 2 kyosho's RTR chevelle, dodge charger RTR ... but am curious what kits these guys are running and the motor ,esc, receivers ,tires and what i should be buying for on and off road ... thanks john
Yes, my racing buggy is clean. Why do you aks?!^^ Okaaaay, my Monster Truck is not... And I was about to clean it, then I realised that my workspace is way to unshelved to get anything done, so I tidyed my whole room up. Maybe I have time tomorrow to clean my Team Magic E5^^ Also, it was a great video even without considering that it motivated me to tidy up^^ And your bearing cleaning video was very helpful for me too!
Have to ask I just starting to run electric rc and I pick up a used team associated b4.1 love the crap out of it I couldn't imagine how much fun it is it crazy fast what good gear ratio to run may I ask?
Hi I have a old rc from when I was younger. The problem I have with it is the wires. My uncle decided to cut the wires at the time (nobody knows the reason ig he was just young and dumb lmao) everything should work.. Can I just replace the wires to make it work again? It is a now Vintage Nikko Ford F150..
Hey Ryan, quick question...why do you solder the battery leads to the side of the bullet connectors, instead of using the little channel on the top? The only thing I can think of is that it might make them easier to grab/pull out of the battery. Thanks for the vid!
They are the new trinity bullet connectors. There is a little screw inside the bullet that tightens to the walls of the battery. Pretty cool stuff, they also limit friction, resulting in a faster car.
Great vids man. What are your thoughts on the shockshaft being sucked back into the shock body after being bled. It seems like bubbles will form, is this an issue?
Ryan, Excellent video. I noticed in the video that the ESC cap for the speed controller does not appear in any of the final footage, is it in fact still on the speed controller and now hidden on the other side between the receiver and speed controller, or was it omitted on purpose?
Hi Ryan I plugged my Team Orion HMX ESC backwards aaahhh... Is ther any way to fix this, it's expensive!! Doesn't the fuse that smoked protect it? HELP
also I just put all the wire I'm not using together from esc and servo and just black heatshrink It all together.. look's way better then bunch of zippys lol but yah I love a nice clean looking rc
Awesome and very informative video Ryan! Are you running a different servo than what you have linked? I'm curious to know what it is! Thanks! Looking forwarding to your next video!
Notes from possible confusion in the video:

ryan try cowrc cleaner i use all there producs they work well
Packaging tape is the tape I use. Its very thick and durable tape
Love watching your videos, informative and interesting to watch,
Thanks for a great channel.
You got 2s lipo’s with your name on them? I think I saw them That’s when you know you have arrived
Brilliant work Ryan, I feel like I could watch your videos all day, THANKS❗
My friends think I’m so weird for loving to clean my cars. I find it very satisfying to get all of the grime out and to tune the car to perfection.
Everybody makes this hobby in his own way, so you can do whatever you want and dont need to do what others say. You buy/do what makes you happy
Rewatched it after two years, still helpfull and the quality holds more than up to modern standards. Love the video, keep up the cool stuff!
im also on a ryan binge :)
love the video! I suggest that you resolder wire to the battery terminal into the top of it (in the "indented C" area) fill with solder for a much stronger bond, Cheers!!
Nice of you to help someone else out. The car looks a lot better.

JRR R/C i tink that you are wasting your money by trying to race your slash.
Is heavvy and old, just get a quality kit

Tutorial is amazing, clear instructions. Not rushed by any means .. fantastic sir
Thank you for your in-depth videos and easy to understand way of explaining it. Also the clarity in your videos and light is too notch. 👌🏻

Best car cleaning video on the interwebs 👍
You put so much knowledge out there...
We appreciate you brother!
This was really helpful although I am a basher not a racer. Thank you!
EL Valenin same, but a clean car runs better, so it's still some useful information.
I bash/ race. I keep all of my rings clean, even when bashing it helps to take the same steps as a race prep. If your car is nicely maintained, you're gonna have a good day
EL Valenin I have different rigs for everything. Road, rally and bashing
I didn't see or learn anything new but... fantastic video!!!
This will be VERY useful for noobies to the hobby.
VERY well done!!!
I've been in the hobby for a year but this still helped me
I really like your videos. I see that you are working on both 2wd and 4wd buggies. Awesome video. Building a T6.1 right now. My first truck, fun to build.
Nice video. I'm curious why you soldered the bullet connectors like this? Aren't the channels in the connectors designed for the wire to sit in?
What plastic parts should I be spraying with the CRC silicone Lubricant with! ? Because it says on the can not to be used on plastics!
Great video.watched while working on my truck......sooooo good😀
one of your best videos. really useful, great tips. genial
Very nice video. I have a lot of extra wire. I am going to do what you did except the color. Very helpful for a new guy like me.
Good alternatives for the crc silicone spray, B'LASTER Silicone spray. My autoparts store doesnt have the crc one but stocks the blaster one
nice detailed video. I simply spray with electrical parts cleaner, take an interior detail brush to everything, and blow with an electric duster (datavac). And if I clean the body I just meguiars ultimate quik detail spray.
Quality video Ryan, keep up the good work. There is always something I pick up from watching them

Thanks for taking the time to make an awesome video.... I usually do a quick wipe down but now I'm motivated to clean my Arrma this way. I just subbed
I believe that Polishing the Suspension and Shock Shafts, probably did MORE for overall Performance than anything else!! 👍👍
However, I HAVE to say that Wiring Job.... Is Proper and BEAUTIFUL!!! Thanks
Carmine 💥 ⛽
Really enjoy your videos can tell you love what you do top job on the car
Very nice and informative video!
Thanks 👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😬
Still a great detailed video. Love your videos Ryan!
Cool. Tearing into my car today for a rebuild. Also a B6D
An alternative to the crc silicone spray is maxima SC-1. it's a silicone based detail spray go dirt bikes and mountain bikes.
Hi There great video
I have a question
Not sure if you can help
I’m looking for F1 RC 1/6the scale chassis line the one you have
Any idea where can I find?
Nice video! What you think about bathing the plastics with WD40?
I'm unsure if I've been doing diffs correctly now, I always put grease in the bearing holes then put the bearings in but you only put a small amount of grease on the diff rings, have I been doing it wrong ?

You've been using the silicone spray for a while with no problems? On the can it says not for use on plastic.
gti2756 Did you figure this out? I have the CRC silicone spray but am worried it could damage the plastic parts...
Very good video. How many times did you say “go ahead”?
You can get that silicon lube in the hub department at Walmart I think. I use that stuff to put on gun metals but it’s a different brand
Great video, Great quality and also great speaker! Thanks!
Why don't you use bullet connectors for the motor ? are they not recommended ?
i see u solder directly the wire from esc to motor

hey Ryan, about the shock top. mine doesnt have a screw to release air. how to do this with bladder?
What grade oil do you use for Astro mate. I’ve got a b6.4
Great video. ....what length flat sensor wire do you recommend for the b6 buggy ....also what tires are on the car in this video thanks
this is saving my life, just bought my first used B6.1 and i just didn't know where to begin lol. Thanks for doin what you do !
hay is it a problem when you have a burned out cluch will it affect the car because i took apart the back of the car and i have my car on 2 of my rear spare tires and i throdling and i seems fine but when i have it on the growned i throdle it and it does not move can you give me some advice

Good vid. See you at our local Fl. Track soon if finances quit getting in way.
I'm wit u there!
Great video...what color blue is that at the end?
1. After you polish the metal parts, always clean them with simple green. Metal polish leaves a film and it will infect you shock oil and cause more wear on the contact areas.
2. I use Maxima SC1 on all the plastics and body, it makes them look like new and lasts a longtime

So my 1/16 e revo is completely worn out. Should i take it apart completely and just get some new parts and rebuild it
Have to ask I just starting to run electric rc and I pick up a used team associated b4.1 love the crap out of it I couldn't imagine how much fun it is it crazy fast what good gear ratio to run may I ask?
Great video!! As always. What did you do with your receiver wire? Thanks.
Hi I have a old rc from when I was younger. The problem I have with it is the wires. Less resistance due to less solder being used and its a great "handle" to use 👍
High quality video mate!! Great job!! 😊
Thanks dude!
Super helpful Ryan👍
Do you charge the batt in the car? alligator clips?
What is that foam block you use when you’re rebuilding your shocks called?
Great vids man. What are your thoughts on the shockshaft being sucked back into the shock body after being bled. It seems like bubbles will form, is this an issue?
Hi would WD40 be ok for cleaning up your buggy or would it have a reaction with components
Hay Ryan Harris can you please Mack a video on a yokomo yz4 sf
Ryan, Excellent video. I noticed in the video that the ESC cap for the speed controller does not appear in any of the final footage, is it in fact still on the speed controller and now hidden on the other side between the receiver and speed controller, or was it omitted on purpose?
Your subs to viewer ratio is outstanding!
Thanks man! I like how active the RC community is. Hoping everyone continues to enjoy the vids :D
Any extra tips, for cleaning really dirty and 1 plus year old solder.
Hi Ryan I plugged my Team Orion HMX ESC backwards aaahhh... Is ther any way to fix this, it's expensive!! Doesn't the fuse that smoked protect it? HELP
Excellent video !!! What kind of tires was on that buggy
Jconcepts Reflex on the 61mm wheels
Hi Ryan,
This is a great video, has helped a lot.
Question, how do you dispose of the used silicone oil from the diff and shocks?
The link for the set-up and manuals doesn’t work, do you have another site you recommend?
Hey Ryan how did you mount your motor Fan in your B64D? Thanks dude!!
Just got the b64 all cleaned up to find all the parts discontinued. Guess i got my first shelf queen 😅
also I just put all the wire I'm not using together from esc and servo and just black heatshrink It all together.. look's way better then bunch of zippys lol but yah I love a nice clean looking rc
shock fluid was completely clear, was it necessary to change it?
Hey would you mind doing a video on tire balancing? Thanks!
Song name through out vid not the one at the end tho?
Awesome and very informative video Ryan! Are you running a different servo than what you have linked? I'm curious to know what it is! Thanks! Looking forwarding to your next video!
This is a friends car! I still run the servos I have linked.
Oh nice!
Did you forget to put the capacitors back on the speed control or did you make it so neat that I can't see them?
In the video it's missing! I put it in after! Sorry about that
It's easy to make the wiring look cleaner when you omit things. Haha!
How hot do you set your iron to solder your wires
Is it okay to throw a little electrical tape on the ends of the battery terminals? Makes me nervous seeing exposed wire.
Did you not reinstall the cap? Also, never hurts to add more grease to the diff...
*Nice bro, I will do the pastique stuff, looks great specialy if you drive in 1/10!!*
great vid. liked and subbed. I have rebuilt one car fully and ended up spending over $350😂😂😂 so annoying rebuilding a car with all stripped hexes 😂
What stand did you use to hold the shocks?
Thank you !
Keep on.. these are great vids.. 💪
