Quick question, is a "Supulse" B3 V2 10w charger all I need for a Zeee 5200mah? Or do I have to get something that has a digital readout to know exactly what voltage the battery is at? Sorry, I just don't understand. Not sure if what I bought is strictly for balance/storage charging...or if that fully charges it & when the Esc5 sguts it off that's the correct amount for storage?

My oldest lipo is from 2011... and its still good, despite having had years of heavy use and lots of fast charges. It also has years of non use, stored at a full charge, no problem at all. @@ELValenin 2s is a two cell, 3s is a three cell and so on... and that is basically you have 2 batteries(cells) connected in series each typically having 3,7 Volts that equals 7,4 Volts for a 2s Lipo...
@@herbie5263 yeah I know that, but do you leave the broken cell in the lipo and just use it as for example a 3s instead of a 4s or do you unsolder it and take it off? How do you do that with a hard case pack?

Totally agree, there was a few out when I got in the hobby, and I made the newbie mistake of buying a crap charger, and doing zero research on how to charge. I'm retired firefighter, and back then, still on the job, I was cocky about the lipo danger I had heard a little about, thinking, "hell, I run into burning buildings, what's this little thing gonna do, spit at me." Well I hooked up brand new 4s 1300mah, charging on some quick charge setting I think, and not using the balance plug, because my first quad used the balance plug to power the vtx and camera(old school) so I thought that's all it was for. Luckily I did follow the rule about not leaving them unattended, and I did have it in a lipo bag, albeit a cheap one. Bout 3min later, heard a popping noise, by the time I figured out what it was, the fire was through the lipo bag (on a plastic table), a toy grade drone next to it, and my wall, were not only being impinged by the flames withing in seconds, but actually starting to burn. Big bad firefighter man, was running around like a chicken with his head cut off. Fire extinguisher was moved due to doing a remodel, so while wife is screaming and looking for extinguisher, I'm throwing a big mug of ice coffee on the fire, doing nothing, finally wife finds extinguisher, it was only ABC, but I had a larger than normal one, and lipo was past it's hottest burn phase, so the extinguisher put it out barely. Wish I could post pics on here. First thing I did after that, was read everything I could find on the internet and watched a bunch of videos, built me a battery bunker with sand bags and put it all in a back room in basement, in the middle of the room, on a concrete table with unfinished walls, two large fire extinguishers, and two smoke alarms. Well, I lied, first thing me n the wife did, was change our underwear, put some fans in open windows to air the place out, and walked up to the local Mexican restaurant and had several margaritas to calm our nerves..lol. Sorry this turned out to be a novel, didn't think I'd ramble this much on one story, but I was a firefighter for almost 25yrs, and I've seen fires so hot that it melted the paint off one side of our truck from 25ft away. But I have NEVER seen something so small and so innocent looking, get that hot, and put off that much energy, that fast, EVER. So anybody getting into the hobby, this isn't a safety nazi thing where we're just extra careful because we're old farts, this is one part of the hobby you can't mess around with, lipos fires are no joke, be careful all, and happy flying!!
Hey @@sunshynff thanks so much for retelling your experience with the lipos I thoroughly enjoyed your story and the fact that it came from a firefighter made it that much better.
I'm old skool and don't have LiPo (yet) but your tips make sense. Thanks for that and besides you got a clear and bright voice. Perfect for this kind of video tips & tricks !! Cheers!
Great, congrats on picking up your first LiPo. They're great batteries that last a long time with proper care. Let us know if there is anything else we can do for you. -Brett
As with most hobby things, those are wildly exaggerated. I've had RC car lipo batteries for years and I just now got a storage charger. I used to charge them with generic China made chargers that came with the cars. 2s and 3s. All perfectly operational even after sitting for years. No swealling or anything of the short. Just make sure you don't store them fully charged or empty and they'll be fine.
Really appreciate this. I’ve only ever had nicad battery trucks before but all the “good stuff” use lipo and I really am worrying about bringing the big batteries in with the care they need. Seems a decent charger does most of the hard work.
Great video, I left one in the car (got really lucky). Came out to the car in Florida after 4hrs in 90F, well it puffed like mad. Thanks for the video!
I don't think it was the 4 hours of sitting rather the fact it was 90° lipos don't like alot of heat..if it was cooler out you probably would of been ok
I’m 3 minutes into a 10 minute video and you’ve thoroughly convinced me that I made the right decision sticking with NITRO! This seems like a major pain in the ass... I think I’ll trade my couple of brushless models now and get some more NITRO!
here is tip for you and nate abby here is a tip use zip lock back put them in there and zip them up and then take small coolleer with soada can ice pack put them in there i got that from a ama mag and never had problems
Thanks for the great video. I put all my batteries away in storage mode, but here in Canada we can’t fly for months on end in the winter. I’m going to spend the day checking them and recharging them to storage levels. Just to be safe. Thanks again.
Just got my traxxas x maxx,, and I was wondering how to best go about it. Now the batteries are on storage chargeing for the night. Tomorrow, there will be bashing :D Also shout out to kevin talbot, that guy is a legend!
Great video. We are always concerned about the batteries that come with a used RC. I monitor the first few charges closely, checking for swelling, temperature, and cells that struggle to balance. And we always charge at 1c. We had a house fire in our town, which was caused by someone improperly charging a lipo for their RC. Always use lipo charging bags and never leave unattended! We try to balance charge when we are wrenching and prepping cars and then storage charge the used lipos while cleaning the cars after running them. Having multiple chargers does help.
Good info that I will definitely be following. Genuine question tho because I'm really new to this: If LiPo packs are so picky and sensitive to temperature and state of charge during storage etc, then how do all these EVs get away with not blowing up or having 1 year pack life, etc?
Great info....increase HO Insurance or go back to buying a box of nimh, matching cells, build the pack, then just keep jammin the novak charge till the shrink wrap starts melting off....should have some good torque!
Yep essential info. And to add knowing theres a lipo problem developing. (1) voltage drop under load. Voltage telemetry if you're equipped will drop more than a little during heavy throttle. Or an alarm/buzzer sounds then goes silent during heavy throttle or if lvc triggers with fully charged batteries under heavy load. (2) warmer to touch than normal or hot battery while charging. Generally 1 cell voltage on charger read will be well behind in voltage. This is when you toss the battery cause of a bad cell thats warning you it may swell open/burst causing damage.
Great video with tons of useful information. It sure made me happy that invested in matched Spektrum Smart Technology LiPo batteries and charger to make things a lot easier (and safer) for a guy getting back into the hobby after many years.
I balance charge every couple of runs from what I understood when I got my lipos you could use the other charging methods like lipo charge lipo store and fast charge
Brett, Really appreciated the info about not storing lipos in refrigerators/freezers too. Didn't know that one; and, have a friend that is doing such. FYI...Got a lot of my previous r/c knowledge from your excellent Kevin J when he was in the Bay Area; but, you are my hero at AMain for sharing your thoughts via these videos. Cheers from a Platinum member!
Wow, very clear and informative! I learnt quite a bit from your video in addition to what I already knew. Great narration too. Thank you and keep those videos coming!
Awesome video man keep up the good work over there this is really good info that a lot of the newcomers to the Hobby need to learn I have a hard time trying to get people to even read the manual to their lipo charger and batteries that they have to have and I usually try to talk them into nickel Metals at that point.
Wow, great video. Since I’m very new to Lipo batteries, I guess I’m glad to say I’m glad I’m going with Traxxas batteries and charger when I buy my new Maxx here in the next day or so. Call me crazy and have every reason to to retort but since these batteries can be so dangerous, I like the idea of Traxxas’s charger automatically setting itself up to whatever battery I plug into it because of the ID system. If those of you who would have something wrong with my idea are people who know each and everything about Lipo batteries and chargers and can just pretty much never have to worry about burning the house down or the garage or the shop or their car from charging a battery wrong then kudos to you but, I don’t feel that confident in it and even if I did, I just feel safer Using Traxxas batteries and chargers and let their charger set itself up to whatever battery I have plugged into it. I know I’ll spend more money on their charger and their batteries but if that’s the peace of mind I can get while doing that then that’s more than worth it to me.
If you get one of the Live chargers, you can use the app on your phone for increased data and other helpful info; it's actually really nice! You can't go wrong with the Traxxas system, it is extremely convenient and effective Bill. We compare Traxxas chargers in this video Bill; check it out! ruclips.net/video/jUklugwXWyc/видео.html -Brett
Great video! Cold batteries do retain all the energy tho, they just cannot deliver it while they are still cold. So warm them up and they back to full potential.
This is why I am still running NIMH batteries in 2020 oh, don't get me wrong I love lipos and use them all the time but sometimes I just like the Simplicity of charge it and use it!
@@dkastil I think you missed the point I was making is that you don't have to babysit NIMH batteries at all it doesn't matter if they're undercharged or storage charged or what, by comparison you have to treat lipos like a bad nephew, you can never take your eye off them unless they're storage charged, trust me I know all about lipos I've been using them in my RC cars and quads for years
@@SteadfastRC that is not exactly true I ran “safe” nimh in my 3PK for the reasons you say , ,and it had a meltdown in my transmitter almost killing it.
@@dkastil what is a 3pk? I've been using nicad and NIMH batteries for about 30 years now, the only time I've seen catastrophic failure like that is from a direct short or putting in or drawing too much current through the batteries.
Hey Erik,, can you please give me a summary of what to do with brand new lipos that theyve been setting there foe a while like months or pass a year,,,I'll really appreciate it
wow. I just wanted to see if there would be anything I would learn, I am taking notes along the way, and I learned way more than I ever wanted to but hey it's really good! Knowledge is Power (pun).
Hey Brett, just thought I would share something. If you leave your LiPo sitting fully charged and idle, USE IT WITHIN 48 HOURS, or else swelling and/or puffing will take place. Personally I've never had this happen but still, you would always rather be safe over being sorry when taking care of a little stick of dynamite like LiPos for example
Great tips Brett👊!!!! It definitely pays to take care of your packs. Not just for safety and longevity, but overall performance. Bonus tip #11. If you like doing BIG sends off the jumps,, try putting a piece of yoga mat under your Lipos in the battery tray 🤗. I've found it greatly reduces impact damage to the cells. Just cut a cross section off the wife's mat when she's not around👀. Mine still hasn't noticed it's a tad shorter now. 🤣🤣😎💪👊👊
Great info. One of the most well explained and comprehensive battery explanations around. This video should simply be played once a week no matter the experience level.
Good points, except....NEVER THROW A LIPO BATTERY IN THE TRASH!!! Take them to a recycle place. A lot of auto parts stores can do this, or a Batteries Plus for example. DO NOT THROW THEM IN THE TRASH!!
Thanks for the vid! I didn't know what to do with my lipos when I charge them but I don't use them for a couple of days because I heard that they could be damaged that way, so I used the storage discharge so it can be healthy.
Thanks for taking the time to inform RC users of proper Li-Po usage...

Great video! I have recently come back to RC and did not use lipo years back. This video gave me great storage info, thank you!
I purchased a lipo a few months ago and haven’t used it thanks for this video
Just getting back into RC hobby. Never used labels before. Thank you so much for all the perfect info. keep up the good work.
I'm old skool and don't have LiPo (yet) but your tips make sense. Thanks for that and besides you got a clear and bright voice. Perfect for this kind of video tips & tricks !! Cheers!
Thanks Sanny! If and when you switch to LiPo and need a hand, let us know!

lipo
are great longer run time and more power just some draw backs
I like to think Brett talks like this when he's sinking beers with the boys at the weekend :) Great vid!
Finally, a well put together lipo guide. Thanks!
Can't even express how helpful these videos are.
I've been in the hobby for quite a while, it's good to have a refresher on things that us old heads might get complacent about.
Thanks man I just got a new lipo for the first time. Thanks for the information
Great, congrats on picking up your first LiPo. They're great batteries that last a long time with proper care. Let us know if there is anything else we can do for you.
-Brett
100% agree, I learned all this over the course of some years and it cost me in batteries , wish this info was readily available back then...
Thank you so much. You've avoided a disaster. Also, I have literally checked every box of your 10 mistakes. What have I won?
You have won knowledge.
-Brett
Just took a venom lipo battery out of a box that was sitting for 9 years. Took a full charge, balanced and working great.
Was it brand new in the box?
-Brett
That's why i charge them at my enemy's house
😂 👍
IKR same
@@flynnrandall8669 like if it blows up it aint my problem no more
👍👍🐸
Nice
good advise, I´m totaly new to the Lipo thing... was driving Gas and older Elektric RC´s... that helped me alot!
@@chriskirby9745 Was the puffing because they were charged and in the heat?
Hard to say but they are temp sensitive.... usually warm cells mean damage
I’m 3 minutes into a 10 minute video and you’ve thoroughly convinced me that I made the right decision sticking with NITRO!
This seems like a major pain in the ass... I think I’ll trade my couple of brushless models now and get some more NITRO!
You do you, man
Well said A Main!! What a great, informative video 👍⚓😃
here is tip for you and nate abby here is a tip use zip lock back put them in there and zip them up and then take small coolleer with soada can ice pack put them in there i got that from a ama mag and never had problems
Hiiii
Why tf did u put a anchor
the rc saylors!!!!!!!
Thanks for the great video. I put all my batteries away in storage mode, but here in Canada we can’t fly for months on end in the winter. I’m going to spend the day checking them and recharging them to storage levels. Just to be safe. Thanks again.
Very well done, I think a lot of people into rc need to hear this.
Just got my traxxas x maxx,, and I was wondering how to best go about it. Now the batteries are on storage chargeing for the night. Tomorrow, there will be bashing :D Also shout out to kevin talbot, that guy is a legend!
Thank you Brett Now i pretty much know now just Compalated some times with these Trucks because they have been so Advanced like the Battery Lipos
Thank you very much. Great video. I needed that.
Great info for new people entering into the RC hobby.
This has got to be the best video on Lipo's, straight to the point. Thanks man.
I have watched many Lipo videos this is the best. Good info things I actually need to know
Can you use a Li-on charger and charge a Li-po battery?
Good info that I will definitely be following. Genuine question tho because I'm really new to this: If LiPo packs are so picky and sensitive to temperature and state of charge during storage etc, then how do all these EVs get away with not blowing up or having 1 year pack life, etc?
Because EVs use lithium-ion cells.
@@josiahstoltzfus282 wow, yeah, missed that little detail haha definitely a silly question on my part.
just starting in rc trucks. thanks for the great info/tips. now off to investigate the best lipos and best charger to purchase
Great to hear you return to r/c! For those batteries and charger, I can offer some solutions. But is this for racing, or to bash and play?
-Brett
Batteries shall be recycled..!✅
Great info....increase HO Insurance or go back to buying a box of nimh, matching cells, build the pack, then just keep jammin the novak charge till the shrink wrap starts melting off....should have some good torque!
Spektrum Smart LiPos for the win!
Great information. New LiPo user and there is lot of info in the video that was missing in the LiPo's documentation
6 months! Good to know, I was storage chargeing mine every 2
I liked the part where he talked about LiPos
This was so informal
Can you time stamp that part?
LAMO
Me too
@@giovannids3848 i think you mean lmao because lamo means laughing ass my off
Good one. No. 11 could be about LiPo bags and boxes for storage and charging.
Great info stuff I already knew and do but great for new people getting into the hobby well explained Brett
And always great to reinforce the storage charge. Makes me want to buy the new thing that auto puts-batteries at storage-charge.
Thank you Bill! Kevin J is the man and a local hero of ours. We're extremely lucky to have him on our team.

Homeowner's insurance application: "Do you own any lithium polymer batteries?" "Yes." "Insurance DENIED!!"
Noooooooo
Ha. I fly a paramotor with 4kwh of Lipo batteries. (Eight 22,000mah 6S Bonkas). I was still able to obtain liability insurance for it.
Brett,
Thank you for these care and maintenance videos on both cars but LIHV LIPO shorties also.
Wow, very clear and informative! I learnt quite a bit from your video in addition to what I already knew. Great narration too. Thank you and keep those videos coming!
Wasn't looking into this for RC purposes but thanks for the info. Helped me figure out what to do with a bunch of old LiPo's
Awesome video man keep up the good work over there this is really good info that a lot of the newcomers to the Hobby need to learn I have a hard time trying to get people to even read the manual to their lipo charger and batteries that they have to have and I usually try to talk them into nickel Metals at that point.
totally different output
We compare Traxxas chargers in this video Bill; check it out! ruclips.net/video/jUklugwXWyc/видео.html

Good info!! To bad I've did some of these do not's LOL but my batts are still working great. I'll make sure I do not do these mistakes anymore!!!🤣🍻
Me and you both.
Do you still have a flip phone seriously he’s not talking about anything too complicated.
@@SteadfastRC you have been using nimh for 30 years and don’t know what a 3PK is lol 😂 I have been in rc for longer than that get with the times.
Just got into RC and didn’t have a clue so thank you very much!
I didnt know about the storage discharge mode. Going to start doing that
Good tips, especially to hear from a pro at A-main. You hear a lot of this and that out there, so it’s good to get something from you guys. Thanks!
Hey Erik,, can you please give me a summary of what to do with brand new lipos that theyve been setting there foe a while like months or pass a year,,,I'll really appreciate it
All great points. You're a great speaker bro, very well done.
wow. I just wanted to see if there would be anything I would learn, I am taking notes along the way, and I learned way more than I ever wanted to but hey it's really good! Knowledge is Power (pun).
Always unplug the battery when done playing/using.
I learned this the hard way hehe...
I wish there was this kind of detailing for future german car buyers to know what they're about to get into 😎. Great vid bro 👍🏻
This video answered a lot of questions I had. Was simple and to the point. Thanks
Great advise!
-Brett
Great tips Brett👊!!!! It definitely pays to take care of your packs. Not just for safety and longevity, but overall performance. Bonus tip #11. If you like doing BIG sends off the jumps,, try putting a piece of yoga mat under your Lipos in the battery tray 🤗. I've found it greatly reduces impact damage to the cells. Just cut a cross section off the wife's mat when she's not around👀. Mine still hasn't noticed it's a tad shorter now. 🤣🤣😎💪👊👊
🤣
🤣👍🏻
Great info. One of the most well explained and comprehensive battery explanations around. This video should simply be played once a week no matter the experience level.
New to the rc world. Great info, thanx.👍👊
THANKS BRO. im putting my new battery's on storage now. much appreciated.
Alright I listened to the whole shebang; I consider myself educated in handling my LiPoos.
Now onto using the LiPoo.....
the best video i've seen for along while. perfect.
Excellent video and some very good information there!
