Great honest presentation. You brought back some memories about being anxious and the feeling everybody looking at you but now I don’t even notice. Enjoy the ride and it will be the best thing you have done.
I was so close to buying this car [son pressure lol] this week ... but your genuine, open and honest insight has certainly caused me to consider this far more seriously. You may well have saved me $1,000's. That aside it is a truly gorgeous looking piece of art.
Dude, don't worry about the future. It's worth every penny. You are living the dreams of many men everyday who wish they had taken a risk. Life is short, ride away.
I bought a 2006 430 last Oct 2020. I've had problems from day 1. It's in the shop now for a clutch and ball joints. I also only got 1 key, everything else is missing. The repairs are really taking a toll on my finances. I'm not rich, but I figured if I've gone this far I might as well keep the car. I'm not dumping all this money into the car, just so someone else can drive a well maintained Ferrari.
Well said, MGUY. As always an honest and informative video, thank you for sharing your Ferrari experience thus far. I've owned my 2000 360 ten years now and I too went through those times & thoughts of selling it early on, but once you get past the sorting-out process of getting the car to the point it's a fun reliable driver that only needs the annual it makes the rough times all worth it 👍🏻. I love my 360 and you're 100% correct, it's a timeless design that I never get tired of staring at it in the middle of the night and it puts a smile on my face anytime I see it and drive it. Keep up the fantastic videos and happy Ferraring-on 👍🏻
I saw a video where a guy removed the solid piece under the engine hood and put in a vented screen in and he said it works great for letting the heat out of the engine capartment and cooler inside the car. Its the piece the rear Ferrari Emblem attaches to.
As others have said, thanks for the video - and the honesty. I just sold my AUD$200K model car collection as seen on my RUclips channel to buy my first Ferrari, and after watching this and hearing you spent 50-60K on repairs, I am now thinking twice. Thanks for the video.
I honestly don’t get the size of the bills you have entertained Simon. I have put 165,000 KM on my own 360 Modena over the past 18 years and I have never had any bills anywhere near the amounts you quote. Surely you can find an enthusiastic independent service agent in Australia rather than get your trousers pulled down by a main agent? I’m paying AUS$ 1000 for my annual service and AUS$2000 for the 3 year cam belt service. Your car looks great, a bit boomy with the Cappy 3 exhaust, try removing the cats. Keep up the good work but please, find a decent independent Ferrari shop so you can keep the funds in the bank for more petrol!
@@mguytv I can’t recommend I’m afraid as I’m based in the U.K. But there must be a network of owners around Sydney that can help you with that. Removing the cats definitely frees up that wonderful V8, it does become loud though, properly 360 race car loud!
It does really sound you got a bit ripped off. I think the 360 is quite similar to my F430 and I recently had as well a small service plus V-belt replacement done here in Switzerland and that was around 2500 AUS$. Furthermore my F1 system broke recently and the quote was about 6500 AUS$ (pump, accumulator, valve and work). I do have some papers from the previous owners and it seems the cats are really expensive (about 6.5 grand EACH), so I do agree with the other folks recommending removing them.
Great vid mate, nice to see a good honest video on the costs that can be incurred with a beauty like that, it’s very helpful for others considering their options

The exchanger failure is so costly for a simple, cheap part to replace comparatively. How often would you say the exchanger should be replaced? This is a good piece of info if someone is looking to buy a 360.
Thanks for a great video. Beautiful car not and most of us have bought a money pit at least once, thankfully yours is now a stand up car to enjoy for years. p.s. The sound is amazing, and I can see how you missed it enough to bring it back!!
I am considering scratching the ferrari itch also. I own a 997 model 911. Thankfully, I am a master mechanic. You did the right thing fixing this car. The attention to detail required to own this car is part of the experience
I like your sunglasses.....are those from the Ferrari- Ray Ban partnership that was done about 4 years ago? I too have a pair that is similar to yours. Yours look very sharp !
Like your vids. As somebody who decided 30 years ago (top gear 348) I NEEDED to get one one day, and 30 y later getting a manual 360 five months ago, done 1.7k miles and aiming for 5k/y, I'm going to try your maf sensor cleaning tip. Mine's stock; but after 30 years of dreaming (& driving M3's), just perfect.
Gorgeous car. Do you still own it? I would have to keep it for more years after spending that kind of money on it right off the bat. Hopefully once it was sorted it was just normal maintenance like oil, brake pads, and tires.
Great video. HOWEVER. . . . . you have now scared the living soul of of me for buying one! 😆 The exhaust sounded epic. I’m sure Ferrari would add this as stock, but like sportsbikes, they are bound by certain regulations. Yea. Keep it on! The reason I landed here was to research this beautiful car for ownership as my retirement looms and demands exotic toys. I’ll see what cash I can keep on standby for the possible onslaught of failing parts. Many thanks for your honest and accuracy. 🙏🏼
Hey, I hear you about R8 disappointment, I had a 2009 6 Speed manual and it was one of the biggest regrets, 5 separate occasions at the ship the several thousand dollars later, all in one year, I decided to finally get rid it it.
My biggest take away - look for a car with discretionary maintenance. If the car had trunk straps and a new tool kit installed, I can probably expect the big things have been looked after.
Love the video. If you ever struggle with garage gradients can use pieces of timber to take the edge off. The big lesson here is that there is no such thing as a cheap Ferrari, typically it is far cheaper to pay more at the outset on an example that is loved as costs thereafter are a lot lower. Saving a few thousand on a purchase upfront typically doesn’t work out, That said, you’re in am amazing position to have such a beautiful car and at least now it has been sorted - hopefully a lot less expense going forward! All the best from the U.K.! Eta: don’t worry about working on the car, it is straightforward, the mechanicals are the same whether it’s a bmw or Lambo...some good RUclips videos on how to do the jobs...also worth trying to keep driving it as much as possible as garage queens tend to get issues.
$5000 for timing belt change? In the UK from a Ferrari specialist i paid £300 for timing belts. I don't understand how your prices are so high, way cheaper in the UK.
Every time I start considering the purchase of a mid engine d exotic, I watch one of these videos, just to remind myself that the purchase of a gas turbine powered aircraft just might be the less financially reckless decision...
I really like the 360 as well but my fav Ferrari is the 355 but after watching your video I now know I won't have the courage to buy it even if I can afford it!
Love watching your videos. Great to see the 360 in such good shape! Out of interest; is there any recourse through the PPI? If not, is that the industry standard?
Would’ve saved yourself a lot of money doing some of the maintenance yourself. Per example; it sounds like you paid nearly $4,000aud on swapping your exhaust when that’s only a 2 hour job easily done yourself. If you had to do headers, maybe 5 hours. Oil service and flushing coolant/trans/etc are easy maintenance that could save you thousands more.
@@mguytv great! It makes ownership much more reasonable and when I watch your videos I cringe at the luck you’re having and hate that you’re considering moving on from the car due to the expenses
I think spending $$$$$ is the classic intro to Ferrari ownership - starting as the car means to go on! :P I own a 2012 C63 coupe like yours - you've spent more fixing the Ferrari than my car cost to buy! :o Hope the 360 treats you nicely now!
That is insanity. A bit of bad luck id say or I just got very lucky with mine. Less than 2k au in 3 years.. however I am due for belts and some other stuff I've been neglecting for too long so add another 3k to that and a days work. Loads of info out there on how to fix and maintain these cars yourself, I actually consider them relatively simple to maintain. At the end of the day it's an old car with none of the BS electronics modern stuff has. Anyway looks like you have it in great shape so just go and enjoy it.
I'm wondering if the guy who did the PPI on my car was the same guy that did your car. What a waste of money. So far I've counted about 30 things that he didn't pick up. I had a similar horror story. AU$40,000 in the first two years on maintenance (and this was using an independent tech who bent over backwards to save me money)
I didn't think so, I would get someone to bypass the coolant type heat exchanger for an Air to Air exchanger that way you will never have that bastard coolant in the oil again, change it back if you ever sell
I'd love a 360 but have a 986 so pretty happy. I do my own maintenance as paying for a shop to do it is expensive. Here in NZ your typical mechanic will run away if have to work on a Porsche, let alone a Ferrari. If its not a Honda or Toyota then Euro trash(meaning they know nothing about them, to hard basket)
I have spent 14k on mine which includes all belts pulleys bearings tensioners full cams out top end rebuild lifters coil packs and 5 annual services. Mate you should look closer in the first place and get a new guy. Its now worth 50k more than i paid for it. Just saying.
Wait, why would you spend $4,000 a stock exhaust? Did you not do any marketResearch? There’s a guy on our Ferrari 360 Facebook page that can’t even give his away. You can find them cheap on eBay. I have two OEM full original systems sitting in my garage and I can’t give them away, I’m going to probably take them to the dump to be disposed since they’re taking up space.
@@millerfisherman1989 would be very interested in taking one off your hands if we can work something out. To me, the 360 is beautiful Ferrari. Would be nice to have 400 hp rather than my 328s 270 hp. However, having listened to you I will keep what I've got. It's no 360, but it's OK.
With all the initial issues after you purchased the car didn't come with a some warranty... at least 90 days. Very disappointed at the initial seller. Step one buying any used car go to a different dealership and pay them for an inspection.
Cars over 10 years old in Australia don't have any statutory dealer warranty, sadly... and it did have an inspection, just not thorough enough clearly...
Used vehicles over 10 years old don't have any statutory warranty in Australia, difficult to tell if the issues were there when I purchased it, or me continuing to drive it after the heat exchanger started to fail...
Sounds like you bought a very high milage Ferrari that was abused and neglected by the previous owner, the dealership obviously didn't bother to inspect it before resale.
I've heard these to be very reliable cars. Just may have been either used by too many different people or just beat to Hell by one person..... you know the saying about too many hands... a car and especially one of this nature gets used to one driving habit... I'm OCD as well this stuff would have drove me freaking crazy..... I could seriously feel everything in a car..... don't ask me how I have been driving trucks for a living since I'm 13 years old and I am 58.... I could feel things in a 2018 Freightliner tractor that very few could feel or hear for that matter....
It’s a shame good thing it didn’t cost euros u might wanna start looking into doing stuff yourself. Just saying I have little experience working on my 430 and I did the exhaust and the motor mounts and breaks myself. Plenty of RUclips videos to learn from save your money no need to spend 6000 on a exhaust change.
Quote your repair cost in US dollars instead of Australian dollars it doesn't sound as bad. $60,000 Australian dollars is only $43,000 so you save $17,000 just by converting it...
Yes it's been a learning experience, but I would lose most of that if I sold it now. It's sorted now and I am hoping for a long period of enjoying it properly.
I am absolutely gobsmacked by these servicing prices you are quoting.. I have driven 170,000 km in my 360 and have never had bills like that. Surely there are independent specialist in Australia too that can carry out this kind of work, rather than let a main dealer workshop pull your trousers down like that. In my experience main dealers are not particularly thorough or ‘caring’ in any case whereas an independent will actually take an interest in your car and not rip you off on parts and more importantly, labour cost. It’s a car after all, despite being a Ferrari the principle is the same and any decent mechanic is able to carry out the work. My annual service in the U.K. is 1000 Aus$ and every 3 years the cambelts service is 2000 Aus$. Kudos for you keeping it (had mine 19 years now) but it does upset me to hear the costs you’ve had to endure.
My god ive been wanting to pick up a older gallardo lambo or f 360 and my im seriously afraid now. Ive had 3 bmw M3's , 2 e 36 , 1 E46 and was thinking about getting a newer M5 or E90 M3 but really wanted something more exotic but seems like the older exotics are wallet drainers or is it just luck ?

Hope the 360 treats you nicely now!
Yeah, me too or else I'll be selling the kids!
I spend 5k a year on my f430 . Have for 3 years now
Thanks for keeping me from wasting my money. Maybe I'll get one without an engine and just park in the garage to look cool.
Hi mate. What do you normally pay for car insurance on this car?
Mine is insured for 150k and costs 130$ a month.
Thanks for the in depth video and thanks for mentioning where you bought it from. I definitely won't be buying a car from Tony.
Love the 360 but I feel like most Ferrari's of that era can sometimes cost more money than they're worth
No warranty from the dealer you bought the car off?
Not in Australia with cars over 10 years old...
I didn't think so, I would get someone to bypass the coolant type heat exchanger for an Air to Air exchanger that way you will never have that bastard coolant in the oil again, change it back if you ever sell
So ur 50k in the car I would’ve just bought a amg GT tbh fuck that too much trouble mate
where is this magical AMG GT for 50k?
Agreed - similarly mine has almost recouped the expenditure in the rise in value.
Not in Australia, I'm afraid. In US maybe...
@@mguytv major bummer man.
@@millerfisherman1989 you still got those stock exhausts ?
@@djm_852 yep.
@@millerfisherman1989 would be very interested in taking one off your hands if we can work something out. I am thinking of putting my spider back to stock as it’s too damn loud on cold starts in my parking garage. I am the_dan on fchat or you could please drop me an email on danieljmoore [at] gmail [dot] com 🙏
And just yesterday I was watching a video about how inexpensive they were to own. maintenance wise.
beautiful car, but seems to me that Tony has done you an amazing deal on it-for himself
Used vehicles over 10 years old don't have any statutory warranty in Australia, difficult to tell if the issues were there when I purchased it, or me continuing to drive it after the heat exchanger started to fail...
My dream Ferrari
Maybe you should of bought a F430 .
Yes, I should have pushed the budget a bit to get a 430...
Someone once joked that buying the ferrari is just the down payment.
Time to enjoy it! We have a saying in Spanish: nadie te quita lo bailado
Had to look it up, but yes - very appropriate!
Sounds like you bought a very high milage Ferrari that was abused and neglected by the previous owner, the dealership obviously didn't bother to inspect it before resale.
Beautiful car
Thanks for watching!
$5k Oz just for timing belts😮 labour eats it 😮
she sounded gorgeous
wow so expensive il pray for u mguy
Yeah, 4.5k of that was the stock exhaust itself, but yes, take your point.
Quote your repair cost in US dollars instead of Australian dollars it doesn't sound as bad.
$60,000 Australian dollars is only $43,000 so you save $17,000 just by converting it...
Haha true!
$60k for service, that money would get you a sport Lexus... ; I think I can afford to buy, but I don’t think I can afford to keep it.
Very true...!
When the majority of your annual mileage is done between your home and the dealer/workshop, I'm not convinced that the car is a keeper!!!
Kudos for you keeping it (had mine 19 years now) but it does upset me to hear the costs you’ve had to endure.
so you spend 50k on a car thats worth about 70k?
Australian dollars.
I am not a good example - I screwed up - but you don't have to...!
Luv the 360s, but this is why I'm afraid to buy one.
Yeah
I don’t think
I’m gonna get a 360
Unless I know I have double $
Hang on
Would you do a meet up with Australian RUclipsr Archieluxury?
