You're the first bigger youtuber who acknowledges the superiority of the type XX's design. Underappreciated and underused, the Type XX is utilitarian, dressy and kinda badass-looking at the same time. Like a... Trenchcoat. Or a swordcane. 😅
It's hard to put into words how great of a watch it is... and you're so right about it being underused. Such an elegant piece of design that caps off that transition from "old world" to "modern" 🥃
I love that Heuer Carrera that you showed. Absolutely stunning. As Breguet is my favourite brand I mainly focus on the Classiques BUT, you cannot deny that the Type XX is a masterpiece. The version that they made for Only Watch was stunning with its beautiful chocolate dial. If only that was in general production. Ahh, I’d be selling Watches to buy one! The Hanhart design is just beautiful and probably the most likely one that I would buy as it is the cheapest. Military Watches really are my thing at the moment and these Pilots Chronograph’s are absolutely sublime. Another brilliant video my friend. I hope that you are well and taking good care of yourself. I’ll be in touch. ❤
Beautiful Belgian Air Force piece, right? Probably one of the rarest in the world too (only made for one year). And all I can say is thank you Thomas. Thank you so much for what you have done for me and mum. The past two weeks have been the worst of my life and I have to hope things get better. From the bottom of my heart, thank you ❤
I’m currently 12 months in to my Longines Avigation Bigeye 2019 ownership thanks to you! Love it. I personally wear it on a green Nato. Wonderful piece and it’s going nowhere!
I remember years ago prior to vintage watches becoming expensive I was in an antique store in Toronto. This guy sold military antiques. Lamps, furniture, badges, caps and watches. I saw so many gorgeous vintage chronos. I loved them but was to young and poor to realize my passion. Your video brings back some amazing memories for me. Thank you!
My Dad also restored vintage flying WWII planes in Ottawa's Vintage Wings. Merlin engines (ohh the sounds) for Spitfires, Hurricanes and Mustangs. Man the memories are coming back fast. Thank you!
Really wasn't a chronograph chap, but got the Bulova Lunar Pilot on a whim and it's become one of my favourite watches, despite being a cheap quartz. Seeing chronographs in a whole new way, so well timed with the video! Cheers 👍🏻🥃
That Heuer issued for Belgian Air Force is simply stunning. Heuer Bundeswehr is another great chrono from the brand. I’ve been looking at Hanhart 417es 1954 for quite some time now. This purpose built esthetics just speaks to me. Form follows functions. One of the reasons I bought my Marathon GSAR.
@@ID-Guy unbelievable. A blueprint for military issued chronographs for decades. Steve McQueen was rocking one for a reason. And that guy could have pretty much any watch he liked. A true military issued watch is SS, super rare, it didn't get much cooler back in the day. The watch he chose and wore. Unlike the hyped Daytona, a gift from his wife, that must have been sold at huge discount with another purchase at an AD.

Fantastic video. There is just 'something' special about the Type XX. I managed to pick up the Hanhart 417 Red Lion last year. I never thought a chronograph would be my daily driver but here I am nearly 10 months in, and it is rarely off of my wrist.
Thank you so much Steve. Really loved a closer deep dive into these incredible chrono's. There are truly none like them out there (but we can get pretty close in other categories) 😉
Great historical review of the type. Like you, not a huge chrono fan - but respect the complexity of the movement and the heritage. Love those clean designs.
That coffee colour dial man! Love that look. I’m the same the chronograph look leaves me a bit cold. I’d much prefer a time only display. These pieces are really something else. Great presentation as always.

Not for the first time, I completely agree! I’ve come close to buying Type XX Breguet and Dodane chronos. But not yet. Such cool watches and I’d love to see a paired back, simple Breguet. As an alternative, the Blancpain Air Command is very close and an excellent movement.
That Air Command I should've mentioned... Ah, they're all terrific. If I could have one "collection" of vintage pieces, these Type 20's would definitely be it. Under the radar, unique and simply gorgeous. Thank you as always James 🥃

Type 20 is a continuation of German created military chronographs in 30'S what is the best chronographs not only because is BRILLIANT WATCH WITH BEST DIAL EVER but is full of history, heroes, exploration, bravely and everything. ANY OTHER CHRONOGRAPH do not matter how hand made or luxury do not have nothing in history to show .Excluding Datograph ONLY .What is in different class and change the game .

You get used to it in time. Looks better with a few scratches on it. Also good for small wrists as it shrinks the dial a bit.
Let’s see what new Type pilot‘s watch Breguet will release on June 6, 2023…
Type XX Bi-compax (even better with big-eye) is the 🐝 knees chrono but jeez man, at $15,000 new for a field watch… it’s a hard pass for me 😢
It's a pity they're so pricey, right? Imagine a time when these might have been issued to you as a pilot? I bet even back then they knew the pieces were something special 😉 Hope you're well brother!
Patek 5170G-010 is a similar layout
Type 20 is a continuation of German created military chronographs in 30'S what is the best chronographs not only because is BRILLIANT WATCH WITH BEST DIAL EVER but is full of history, heroes, exploration, bravely and everything. ANY OTHER CHRONOGRAPH do not matter how hand made or luxury do not have nothing in history to show .Excluding Datograph ONLY .What is in different class and change the game .
The versions with date are IMHO ugly.
You didn't mention the best one?! Heuer Bund...
Aaaagh.... regret selling my Bigeye. I'm a total motorbike nut and speed guy but the military and pilot chronos are beautiful. Speedys snd Daytonas ....nice but I'll pass.
The watches worn by French armed forces always run backwards.
But hey, at least they're pretty looking 😉
