Simply the most beautiful. Breguet holds a sentimental place in my heart because my dear husband has shared his passion for Breguet with me. This was the first watch brand introduced to me from the world of haute horology, it opened my eyes to the art of timepieces. Thank you for a wonderful video!
My dad is a retired watchmaker, and was invited to tour the Breguet facilities in Switzerland in the early 2000's. Even back then, he said they were hands down the most underrated watches in the market. Fast forward 20ish years later, I think they're still the best kept secret. While I wish I could afford a 5140BB, I'm glad my friends who pine for a Panda, know little to nothing about this brand
Oh you're so right - when it comes to heritage, we GOTTA TALK BREGUET! I soooo agree they are not talked about enough! I still love almost all of their current catalogue, but I think Swatch could be doing more to push them to the forefront.
Type 21 chronograph is still one of my favorites. Right after the Lange 1815. They did a tourbillon and carousel in one watch. They sell for 50% as soon as you leave the AD. The GP brand loses the same. Zenith seems to have made it out of this with a wait list for the Chronomaster sport and Defy 21 skeleton. Great content. Thank you. Your love and respect for Breguet came thru in your voice. Completely under loved and respected.
When looking at dress watches, I always get torn between "this is too common" and "this is too unique". I'd like my dress watch to be classic and understated yet unique. This hits it on all fronts (I'd perhaps like a movement that spans the entire watch size). Pretty sure this is gonna be a fair bit out of my budget at this time, but who's to say, it might just find its way to me at least by the time I'm 50 and can pull this off more believably. Side note: Thanks Teddy for all your videos featuring Nomos. I've become a huge fan, partially because their dress watches also hits it on all fronts. My next few watches will likely include at least a few Nomos references.
Beautiful details on these watches! They are far out of my budget but I enjoy learning about them and appreciate the history and influence they have had on current designs.
Breguet watches are incredible pieces. Just think how much hand work you are buying for this price: guilloche, coining, lugs welding, finishing. All in gold, even dial including! No any other brand can offer the same in this price range! If you love how Breguet classique looks like - it is must have, wear and enjoy! I'm proud owner of ref.5277: was preparing myself for this purchase for a few years, and never regrets that I've done it 😊. I love their blued Breguet hands - they looks amazing in reality, no any photos can show it - glossy deep blue and very thin 😍
I own a Breguet and am looking to buy another. I kinda wish you wouldn’t be pushing how great they are since their price hasn’t been artificially inflated yet. Try not to tell your pal O’Leary…
My daily wearer is a Breguet Marine Chronograph. I love the watch and the fact that Breguet is a sleeper. I am torn between believing all watch lovers should love the brand and wanting to keep the brand (almost) all to myself. Thanks for the vid!
I love Breguet with their history and the quality and style of their work! You mentioned the current fad of sports watches, but I appreciate more the thin bezel and delicate detailed design of the face! Beautiful work!
I didn't know Breguet had that many design firsts. Learned something new there. In that case, Teddy is right, they deserve more mention in the watch community. Never been on my radar.
Yes. Finally. Probably more than 10 years back the first time I laid my eyes on a Breguet and I knew that I was in love with this watch brand. BTW Teddy Great Job! Keep it up!
I first learned about Breguet when I visited the FP Journe boutique in LA. I had always been fascinated with the unique look of FP Journe watches and the person there actually explained to me that although FP Journe looks unique, they take a lot of inspiration from Breguet.
Absolutely beautiful. I wish I could afford one. I love the dial, simple but elegant. No unnecessary complications cluttering it up. I love the thickness, insanely thin. This watch is pure class. The type of watch I love to see, but most probably don't. The average person wants some gigantic diver with 20 complications and and insanely large dial. Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed hearing about every detail.
Breguet started when Louis XVI was still king. The French Revolution was 14 years away. You can feel that time period just looking at this watch. The attention to detail is phenomenal.
I first learned of Breguet over 5 years ago when I was perusing through Chrono24. I was never a fan of sports watches, and most dress watches were dull, gentlemanly things with restrained personality. It was mildly entertaining, scrolling through various offerings, as one does when looking for a watch, until I came across a watch that looked completely different from all the rest. It's dial had a pattern unlike anything I had ever seen, it's decoration was so utterly captivating; videos I could find of it on RUclips revealed a watch with many levels of complexity in such an elegant and simple presentation. I did not own a watch, although I certainly flirted with the idea of Piaget or Cartier as my first watch, even though at the time, they were far out of reach. But the Breguet ensared me. This was the watch that I passionately looked at with such longing for many nights, long after I should have been asleep. It became the watch that burned its image in my mind's eye, that I could feel as a phantom weight on my wrist as I imagined living with it as an extension of my personality. Young, foolish, it's price was, and still is, quite uncomfortably out of reach, a purchase that would be unwise in this volatile economy, especially as a watch that would not retain value, or be of interest to the collectors who flock about the Pateks and Rolexs like moths around a flame. I had to own it, I couldn't stop thinking about it while working, or eating, while spending time with friends. But an opportunity revealed itself. It would be a purchase that would cost me dearly (something that was always recommended against, never buy a watch you can't afford if it may damage you financially). Alas, I was, and am,a fool, who now proudly wears my first grail watch on my wrist. Possibly my only watch, because all others pale in my eyes. It took me five years of pining before this opportunity presented itself, one that will never happen again in my life. For me it was akin to winning a lottery! Luckily, I'm in a position were it won't hurt me as hard as it could. It certainly has delayed other things in my life, yet it is worth it as my grail now rests upon my wrist, it's weight a little heavier than I expected, but so utterly enchanting. My mind becomes aglow with warmth every instance that I look at it. I do, in fact, use it to tell the time, and love that I will wear it for the rest of my life. My grail watch is the Breguet Classique 5907ba/12/984 18k yellow gold, with a sub dial showing the seconds, an exhibition case back with a power reserve indicator on the back. It is 34mm in diameter, but wears much larger because of the straight lugs. 7.5mm thick with water resistance up to 30 meters. I were it every day with pride.
@titi64230 I had a similar quandry with the white gold and yellow gold version, but ultimately, the yellow was my choice simply because its bright warmth contrasted so elegantly with the silver of the dial.
@@luisumana1456 and with the blue hands. Agree . One point more is that the rose gold maybe can be à regret after time . And a final point is that the yellow is the historic color for breguet . 5907ba is one of the less expensive watches in my collection but it is FOR SURE my all time favourite watch. In a time of difficulty I may sell everything in my collection for liquidity, but I'll keep the 5907ba on my wrist.
Breguet / JLC / Zenith and Longines are far by most favourite brands. It always felt that they are the underdogs of the industry, and deserve far more respect in their respective tiers.
Right on Teddy. Once again solid proof that we have not only the same wrist size, but also the same (almost) taste. Breguet is the true one and only brand for kings and queens. We shall never forget that.
I love Breguet! I owned one in the late 90s, and it was stolen from me. It was a Breguet Marine; the old style, of course with the pointy crown and it had a gold bracelet also. Anyway, I like the new watches, except for the fact that they lost their crown, which to me was a Breguet trademark and now they have a very standard crown, so I wish they’d bring that back. OK thanks for the great content.
This watch is timeless beauty, their design is the epitome of "dress watch" in my opinion. Why the ugly or boring designs from Patek are glorifed by reviewers (and too many with more dollars than sense) while drop dead gorgeous designs like this are ignored is beyond me.
Teddy, I can't believe you made a video on Breguet. Been waiting for this for a long time. I almost thought you had something against this wonderful brand.
I love Breguet, and I love that they've stuck true to their roots. I love how special, and exclusive they are. Yeah Rolex and Breitlings are beautiful, AP's and Pateks are classy too. But in my eyes, nothing is a truer example of the art of fine horology than Breguet. Especially the Classique Chronométrie (7727 is my fav). What an incredible brand, with even more impressive time pieces.
I note from the video you're in Cleveland, where I've lived since 1973. Finding a new Breguet in Cleveland is far, far from what one can find in Greater Cleveland jewelers but I got my pre-owned Breguet Heritage 8670 in a jewelers in downtown Charleston last December. Never expected to find the watch of my dreams in Charleston - I was thinking future trips to Boston and/or New York - but there it was. It call came together!
Beautiful watches, and in my opinion, this design aesthetic is far superior to the more costly Nautilus and Royal Oak designs which are in vogue at the moment. Glad you made this video highlighting a timeless classic.
@teddy, the video quality (lighting/audio/editing) of your videos are spectacular. But what keeps me coming back is the quality and diversity of your content ie from seiko 5 dress/dive to tissot/longines to grand seiko/Rolex to trinity watches while still taking care to include brands that are not as covered. Love the content!!
Along side the technical innovations offered by Breguet in the watch-making history, aesthetically, the Breguet hand and Breguet numerals are the best gifts for the whole watch industry.
Their Classique 9067BB is my dream watch that I plan to get once I am financially secured enough. The design is stunning and the size of 33.5 is perfect for my wrist (I have a very small wrist but large hand).
I use to work in a very top jewelry with the best brands of watches in Toronto,Vacheron, Audemar, Blancpain, Cartier, Girard , etc, And just to see the catalogues of Breguet and you see the list of famous customers and Napoleon is one of them, talk about the history of this brand and the respect that people who really know about nice pieces has for Breguet, love them
Last year I ordered their catalogue and it is full of wonderful pieces, so many history and an unmatched quality. At the moment out of reach for me, but for sure to own a piece from Breguet would be something special.
Much respect to this video Teddy, and of course to Breguet. I have been fascinated by this historic marque since I watched a documentary on the Marie Antoinette commissioned way back in 1783 by an unknown admirer of the Fench queen. I have a few very nice watches but if I can justify purchasing even an entry level model Breguet it would be the showpiece of my collection and a 5157 might just be that watch.
Great choice to review the classique as it covers so much of what you illustrate. Two things: Simple is not easy and Timeless in this fast time - nice. I have been wondering when I would see a Breguet review. I especially like the repeated head nod to the pocket watch and wish that in more of your videos as I'm a fan of the pocket watch. One criticism of the watch is the 45 hour power reserve at 3 Hz. For my knowledge, I'm wondering how the thinness of the case may drive that - size of barrel and/or mainspring. Great again, Teddy and team!
Breguet and Piaget are due a big resurgence. Segments of the watch market have become so distorted in terms of pricing, these legendary brands need more love
Truly beautiful and @$18k+ utterly rediculous cost. I'm 65 and could afford one but with the loss of my perfect vision it would be impossible to fully enjoy it's beauty. Such is life. ERAU 80 CFIA&I ret.
Yet again you are one of the few watch channels that choose to highlight brands that I feel are far more worthy of attention than the usual suspects! My friend owns three Breguets, the latest being an alarm version which is a few years old and was purchased in relative terms for next to no money and which is beautiful! Another great thing is that if you want new then the chances of being able to walk in a dealer ( we have two here in Vienna, one being a boutique) the chances of walking out with a watch is very high, unlike the usual suspects!
Great video Teddy. Breguet is without a doubt a phenomenal brand known for its old world craftsmanship and is known for many firsts in the watch making world. I also find it hard to understand why such a significant brand like Breguet is so often overlooked in the watch community. The level of detail, craftsmanship and quality is almost unparalleled. So why don’t more people appreciate the brand? I think, people’s taste in watches have changed over the years in the same way clothing fashion has become more casual. Dress watches have fallen out of favor with fewer men wearing dress clothes, such as suits in the workplace. The second thing is Breguet hasn’t released anything new or noteworthy that appeals to the tastes of people buying watches today. Lastly…advertising. I feel the SWATCH group could do a much better job of marketing the brand. It’s great to take out glossy color ads in the back of The Robb Report magazine and that’s definitely the right audience for Breguet, but they could be doing so much more to leverage the brand. How about sponsoring a sporting event? “Breguet, the official timekeepers of……something…..anything.”
I recently was able to pick up a used Reveil du Tsar. I love the design and the history too. I think it's time to sell more Omegas off to pick up another one.
I fell in love with Breguet watches after an article in the Smithsonian about AL Breguet and his work. I still have the magazine, along with every book I can find. (Thanks to George Daniels for his careful documentation!) At some point I realized that the brand still existed and found a local dealer. I still go in every so often to look and adore. One day... EDIT: In my mind, to be true to the originals, it's best if a Breguet features at least one off-center dial or other feature. The beautiful asymmetry of his designs is one of the things that caught and held my eye.
Just recently bought a Rotary Canterbury aka the Sherlock Holmes watch. It's heavily inspired by classic Breguet style. It has quickly become one of my favorite watches in my collection.
My favorite watch brand. They’re also overlooked in their Type XX Pilot watches too but their Classique, Traditional and Marine watches are the ones I think of most often. I’d like a Marine if I was only going to purchase one Breguet and use it as a dress watch and a casual-dressy sportswear watch that I wasn’t going to use just every day.
Breguet is my favorite watch brand I have found so far. I found a Japanese brand today called Credor which also is pretty impressive but Breguet has all that massive history behind it. Jaeger-LeCoultre and A. Lange & Söhne are also amazing. Patek Philippe is a really good watch brand and Cartier has top quality watches.
While I will never be able to own one, Breguet remains THE aspirational brand for me. The Marine, Type XX, XXI, XXII, Classique, etcetera, all speak a language transcending the trinity brands, in my opinion.
Breguet stands for Haute Horlogerie. I do not say this in vain, because no one can deny that the contributions made by its creator and today by the brand have been avant-garde that everyone else has wanted to approach. Since I had my first Breguet, today I have had 4, its delicate and careful manufacturing never ceases to fascinate me, which makes this brand more exclusive and fortunately for its customers, but I don't think for the brand, the circle of users It is of the most exquisite taste because it is not in the ephemeral fashion, one of its pieces will always be transcendent to passing fashions My congratulations to Tddy, because in this video, as in the others, his descriptions are understandable and above all, he knows the differences in the type of market he is targeting, depending on the watchmaking piece he describes. In this particular video, he is very objective and precise. Eduardo CCS (Mexico)
Breguet is one of those brands that I would love to have and also I just watched the first season of Succession and I saw Kendall wearing the Classique Breguet. I was so happy to recognize it. I dont know why. Lol
Hello Teddy, thanks for the video, your work lately has been really interesting; I just watched your interview with the head of product design for Longines. You did a great job with the Longines interview, exactly what we need, to have a feel for the brand as its own and some detachment from swatch and eta. What I have just stated concerning standing alone is what Breguet is most likely facing. You need to get in contact with them and expose what the brand is about because their product does say a lot about the brand. By the way, the dial is more intricate than you know, I think the metal ring for the numerals is white gold or german silver dipped in gold, anyways, there is more to the dial than you mentioned, numbers are hand engraved and hand filled, very intricate techniques. Breguet is a great brand but we know very little, just like the Longines scenario. As I progess in watch collecting , I will be purchasing form them because the proof is in the pudding
Breguet has a very rugged movement, with a patented magnetic pivot, in the manually wound 10 Hz 574 DR. It can only be found only in their GPHG 2014 Aiguille d'Or winner 7727. According to Worldtempus this watch is -1/+3 day rate and according to Breguet it's very shock resistant. This movement has achieved the highest score ever in a chronometric assessment. Breguet also has sports line with a high rate movement, but without the magnetic pivot. Put a variation of that shock resistant high rate magnetic pivot movement in a sports watch.
Beautiful design with huge number of quality touches. It’s quality, classic and eye catching to watch collectors. I see the comparisons with pocket watches just like a Dreyfuss pocket watch I have with a classic J&T Windmills decorated movement. Good video 👍
A Brequet timepiece will looks fantastic and elegant in any previous decade or any future decade, it's timeless and transferable to the family. The famous engraved face and dials are exquisite. Total class. The 9067 and the 9068 are the cheapest about $12K USD, not such a large face, I'd prefer these entry models to the 5157 in this video. 9067 and 9068 sizes will never go out of fashion. Winston Churchill almost always wore his Brequet 765, Napoléon, King George III, Queen Victoria, Ettore Bugatti, Gioachino Rossini are examples of famous owners.
Considering Breguet's history, what they represent, and what they currently are producing, Breguet is so underappreciated. The Classique 5157 is one of the best dress watches that you can currently buy today. Then there's the Classique 7147 with the white grand feu enamel dial, that's what I have my eye on. As to what Breguet should be doing, it's probably to market themselves better. They should still keep to the house style as that is what best represents them. What they should market/promote is to reach out with the really smart technical innovations they have, like their Hora Mundi calibre which allows quick switching of time zones displayed, the 10Hz calibre with magnetically suspended balance spring, just to name a few.
Teddy is looking at a brand entry level watch. Breguet watches are serious high Horology, and they're expensive. Breguet owners are unlikely to own only a single watch, so they are likely to wear a lesser but rugged daily beater, maybe a Rolex or an Omega - perhaps even a Breguet Type XX - and slip-on their gold Breguet for occasions. It's fair to say, although many people will eventually be able to buy a Rolex of some sort, the market for Breguet is necessarily small. It's a ferociously exclusive Club beyond the reach of all but the top 1%. The knowing few can spot fellow members, and that recognition, perhaps unspoken, is worth a smile or a nod. Such moments are way, way beyond the arriviste level of success.
Breguet is THE definition of a classical watch in my eyes. Hope to be able to afford one some day.
You'll be able😎🔥🔥🔥
Same
I probably will some day
Breguet is the reason I love watches. I remember first seeing one in a window and the rest is history!

I really like the simplicity with the details that only appear when looking closely. And I could still read it without my glasses. That always helps.

This is a watch I am saving for. It's unique and elegant yet it understated unlike a patek, vacheron, etc
Breguet is a fantastic brand. Their watch designs are timeless and their legacy is legendary.
Beautiful! Calatrava and Classique - my favorite watches. Simple, elegant, understated and just beautiful.
This is an “art”
Beautiful watches, and in my opinion, this design aesthetic is far superior to the more costly Nautilus and Royal Oak designs which are in vogue at the moment. Glad you made this video highlighting a timeless classic.
I wouldn't compare a 5157 to a Nautilus or Royal Oak, try a Calatrava 5227
When Teddy said “entry-level” and knowing it’s Swatch Group… I didn’t expect him to show a nearly $20k watch!
Its entry lvl😎🔥
@teddy, the video quality (lighting/audio/editing) of your videos are spectacular. But what keeps me coming back is the quality and diversity of your content ie from seiko 5 dress/dive to tissot/longines to grand seiko/Rolex to trinity watches while still taking care to include brands that are not as covered. Love the content!!
Breguet makes absolutely stunning watches from their face finishing, coin edge and internals!
Totally agreed! 5157 is more Breguet than anything out there! I love it.
Just bought a type 21 3817 and i love it! happy to see more discussion of this brand!
Oh my god. Never seen this watch before, it’s gorgeous. That dial!
Breguet Marine (the old one) on my ‘colecccion’ list 😎. Beautiful dial, timeless piece.
Along side the technical innovations offered by Breguet in the watch-making history, aesthetically, the Breguet hand and Breguet numerals are the best gifts for the whole watch industry.
Yea
Their Classique 9067BB is my dream watch that I plan to get once I am financially secured enough. The design is stunning and the size of 33.5 is perfect for my wrist (I have a very small wrist but large hand).
Two amazing watches for one amazing brand. Pure classiness
The variant including a date window and seconds hand is probably my favorite watch.
3 Hz isn’t a big deal if your watch has only 2 hands
I love Breguet so much 😩
And the cherry on top is that they are underrated so they cost less and they are rarer (so more special) 😋
I’ve always loved the Type series, but this is remarkable. The finishing is unreal.
Beautiful watch. Reminds me of RGM watches with the coin edge case, guilloche engraving, Breguet hands, and pocket watch heritage.
Enjoyed the review. Breguet has put a lot of effort in hand work on both front & back of the Classique.
Timeless classics. About to purchase one myself. This will remain on my wrist as long as I walk!
I looked at several Breguet yesterday and was captivated by the 5177.
Beautiful indeed. I would never find an opportunity to wear it, though. Thanks.
One of my favourite watches, name says it all Classique!
Agreed, I hope to handle one someday! Great video and education on the brand Teddy, loved it!
Breguet is so underrated, thank you for this video 👍🏼
Very refreshing video Teddy thanks. Perhaps review a Credor next?
Yes great idea👍
Stunning and understated. Would love to one day be able to own one, one can dream. Many thanks for the review, very interesting and informative.
Since I had my first Breguet, today I have had 4, its delicate and careful manufacturing never ceases to fascinate me, which makes this brand more exclusive and fortunately for its customers, but I don't think for the brand, the circle of users It is of the most exquisite taste because it is not in the ephemeral fashion, one of its pieces will always be transcendent to passing fashions
My congratulations to Tddy, because in this video, as in the others, his descriptions are understandable and above all, he knows the differences in the type of market he is targeting, depending on the watchmaking piece he describes. In this particular video, he is very objective and precise.

100 years from now those watches will still look exquisite.
True😎
At first glance I was not impressed but after looking at your examples, I thought this would be a beautiful watch to own. It is stately and refined.
Breguet is one of those brands that I would love to have and also I just watched the first season of Succession and I saw Kendall wearing the Classique Breguet. I was so happy to recognize it. I dont know why. Lol
Wow, never knew about this watch. Glad I watched the video. It's incredible
😎🔥🔥
I was at their museum in Paris yesterday, it was fascinating !
Hello Teddy, thanks for the video, your work lately has been really interesting;
I just watched your interview with the head of product design for Longines.
STUNNING!
5157 is one of my dream watch together with Lange saxonia 37 and PP 5170
What can I say, it's the perfect dress watch. I'm considering getting a 9067. That's the smaller model.
Love them glad you showcased this brand
I've touched and looked at many watches being in this hobbies and Breguet is worlds apart in fit and finish from rolex, cartier, jlc, and UN
Patek, Vacheron, Lange, AP and Breguet. These five brands are from the same category. Rolex, Cartier, JLC and UN are all a tier below Breguet.
Finally a Teddy video in wintertime.
Yes😎👍
This is a contender as my grail watch. It's either this or the Fifty Fathoms in 40/42mm
Great video Teddy. I love Breguet, and specifically the 5157 rose gold. It is a unique timepiece with beaucoup pedigree behind it.
