The Sinn 903 is not technically a homage. When Breitling went into administration in the '70s, Sinn went in and bought the rights to the Navitimer, making them one of only three companies allowed to make slide rule bezel chronographs in the 'Navitimer' format (the other two being O&W and, of course, Breitling). Sinn gave it the 903 model designation, but (after a few legal battles with the revived Breitling) were not allowed to use the Navitimer name. Sinn actually developed the navigation chronograph, improving it, hence it has improved water resistance over the Breitling equivalent.

When I first got into watches, Sinn seemed like the perfect company for my lifestyle and represented a tremendous value for their products. They use top level movements in all of their watches and they are regulated. A Sinn rep also told me via email after servicing my 356 that they regulate all of their movements slightly on the faster end of COSC. This is because they say that the movements tend to slow down and lose time over the years between services. This has been true in my experience. All of my Sinn pieces run around +4 to +6. They are finished very well and the company actually does have great customer service when it's time to get your watch serviced. If you're just getting into watches or a seasoned collector the 556 or the 104 are great introductory pieces for the brand. But I think getting a watch with all the cool technologies that they offer is the coolest part of the brand. Dehumidification capsules in the case, oil filled cases, Diapal escapements, low pressure resistance in case you need to eject out of a fighter jet 🤪, UTC complications for traveling, tegemented cases and bracelets, tide timers, magnetic field protections, and extreme temperature resistances for operating in extremely cold or hot environments. I mean no other company is doing things like that to the level Sinn is. They bought the rights to the navitimer from breitling and make it better than them in my opinion. The Sinn 140/142 has also been worm on I think at least 2 but maybe 3 space missions also. Sinn has made watches for Bell and Ross and have also worked with Damasko. The brand is pretty cool and they are durable affordable. The only thing I can knock the brand for is they use anti reflective coating on the top side of the crystal. I'm not fond of this but I'm pretty positive my Omega seamaster 300 has AR coating on the top side of the crystal also. The coating can be scratched and makes it look as if the crystal has scratches on it over time. And I also don't like Sinn divers a whole lot but that's just personal preference. I just don't like the hands and the dial layout. I'm sure they are made extremely well.

Great choice the 104. Just bought the U50 on a rubber strap. Absolutely bulletproof case with the tegimented case and bezel. Lovely tool watch and great case size and thickness.
The Sinn 356 was my first automatic watch! Seeing the 356 mentioned on your video made me smile. Your channel has helped me learn how to articulate my own taste in watches, thank you!

Its been happening to me lately, little by little my collection is becoming Sinn only, I use to have a great variety of watches but as of now I tend to sell them to get Sinn, so many models I like. And now I find other brands overpriced!
Love Sinn. I've owned ten over the years and loved them all in their own special ways. Selling my EZM3 is probably one of my biggest watch-selling mistakes.
Love this video. Thank you for giving such extensive coverage to the whole line. You accomplished your goal to inform us that there's more to this brand.
I have a regular U1 and a U1S. Worn them all around the world in 20 countries. It tough as nails, understated enough that it doesn’t attract attention, but always gets attention from watch lovers. I own several more expensive watches but the U1 seems to always get the most wrist time. Just an outstanding time piece.
I have two Sinn watches that complement each other ; 104 St Sa A (Arabic numerals) and U1 B and both are fantastic and your presentation was excellent summing it all up extremely well. Tremendous respect for this brand as they deserve kudos. I love your Saturday night live and you are a great host with the difficult task of reading Chat as well as presenting. You are very intelligent ID Guy
I've owned four Sinn watches (556A, 856, EZM 2, currently EZM 13) and I love the brand. When people ask me about it (which are only ever watch nerds) I tell them I think Sinn is what Rolex was in the 60's. A real tool watch with state of the art tech. The only issue I have is the inability to see them in-person in the US. I wish they had some sort of dealer network as I really don't like buying watches without trying them on.
@Pete S I totally understand your wish to see them in-person and try them on at a dealer network, but from talking to the AD (Watchbuys; online only) for them in North America a year or two ago, trying to remember our conversation correctly from back then, I believe he told me with this business model of them being Sinn's agent (sorry if I don't have the legal technicalities spelled out correctly) in North America, they can sell them at a better price. In other countries (I think he mentioned Japan as an example), where they are actually sold through dealer networks, the price to buy a Sinn has a higher retail price. So while we don't have the advantage of seeing them in person and trying them on, we have the advantage of better pricing. Unfortunately there is a trade-off, but at the advantage of price.
Sinn's original business case was to sell the watches directly by mail order... . The only shop they had was a factory outlet in Frankfurt / Main. Today, there is a small number of shops in Germany, selling them, too. And- big advantage over these today widely overpriced "brands" is, every local watchmaker can service / fix them... .
The Sinn Navitimer (Sinn 903) has an interesting history. After the quarz crisis bankruptcy of Breitling, Sinn bought the rights of the Navitimer as well as the leftover cases and dials and kept producing them because the watch was widely popular amongst pilots. Sinn focused on further improving the Navitimer. Meanwhile A Company called Sicura owned the Breitling Name aswell as the Navitimer Name, later resurecting the Brand and the watch. Sinn still has the rights to the 806 Navitimer and all the later iterations that they made, which is why they still have that watch in their portfolio.
I don't own a Sinn but have always been attracted to them, I'd love to own one in the future, they have the ultimate utilitarian aesthetic and from everything I've read they can back it up, really cool brand, I think my first German watch would be a Sinn.
Yeah, you now know why I love it. Sinn watches are definitely the watch most watch enthusiasts should try. Their taste can develop from these watches even if they don't like it. Btw, Sinn 903's design is better than Breitling's Navitimer because it has a much cleaner look IMO.
Hey IDGuy, You did an excellent job in this segment and I feel compelled to mention two additional Sinn follow up points. Firstly, I think that you neglected to mention Sinn’s involvement with the storied Heuer Bundeswehr Chronograph program and this remains the stuff of military watch legend. Next, for those brand enthusiasts that find themselves in Frankfurt am Main, a visit to the Sinn factory is not be missed. What the brand may lack in the way of a bricks and mortar dealer network in some locales, it makes up for in spades in hospitality.
I got the 104ABE recently and love it, there’s something so nice about a proper smart tool watch. That you don’t have to worry about but yet looks good when you need to be smart. It’s a strap monster and from a leather strap to an orange NATO it completely changes whilst still looking great.
I am glad everyone has a favorite brand of Watches. I see the same features in every watch shown here. Not my cup of tea. I think it really is for working people who dive fly drive and saves lives. This is the brand these people need. Enjoy your collectibles , Don't sell them Pass them down Good video for Sinn
I have the Sinn EZM 1.1 and the 103 - The blue one at 4:08 in this video. I love their watches. Technically advanced, hardened tegimented steel and great lume. Also great water resistance. I find their service isn't bad either. Great watches and a great company. I'm looking at a U1 or the new U50. Also don't forget their more formal watches, including their Sinn 910 rattrapante or split seconds chronograph and their damascus finished watch. I dream about their EZM 15 which is another central seconds chronograph.
Great video showing the (maybe mostly unknown) variety of Sinn watches. I'm very much looking forward to collecting my first Sinn watch (104 with the white dial) next week.
Great video on Sinn watches. I own a 903 in blue on blue leather strap, and a EZM13 on steel bracelet. Superb quality and attention to detail from Sinn.
Great review of this brand. Worth noting that while most know Sinn for their utility watches, they also do fine dress/formal watches and a great line of women's watches (a generally weak area for many brands). One of the few brands that make true modern tool watches. Most watches labelled 'tool' are really dress/tool or casual/tool. My only criticism of Sinn is that they tend to function over form, but in their best watches the supreme functionality creates a handsome aesthetic.
It’s really great brand👍 I have Sinn ux more than 5 yers, it’s amazing watch with oil, no scratch at all, I just want more Sinn. I’m thinking about 556 A RS and 857. Thank you for a good review about Sinn👍
Great review of the brand. Next time of the watch shots please include the model numbers. Own a Sinn 856 b uhr feilger on bracelet. Great daily tuff as ever. Have order a U50 T on bracelet a model of a smaller version of the U1. Sinn listened to customers wanting a smaller U 1. And came out with one. What brand does that? Thanks for your shows and content. Stay healthy safe and warm.
I have a Sinn type 144 Ti GMT for some 23 years now. Ti stands for titanium housing, that is (unfortunately!) not offered anymore, while GMT stands for the Valjoux 7752 with an additional hand, showing a 2nd time zone. It's the professional watch that I use for travelling overseas since I've got it, and I use it, too, when going to the work shop where there is dirt, steam and somtimes the need to put hands on something. With the last service, I ordered to add a DIAPAL escapement working lubrication free and opted for the Ar-dehumifying technology, containing much tighter EDR seals, argon filling (inert gas) and a drying capsule to prevent / delay aging of the lubricant. Now, 5 years after the last service and occasionally working in an environment with a lot of steam, the watch still has an accuacy of + 1 ... 5 s/day, while in former times it had to get a service after that time. While other watchmakers write things like "Engineer" on their dial, this whatch is a true and sturdy engineer's companion. @ ID Guy: To my understanding, it's these particular features like Diapal escapement, Ar dehumifying technology and so on that made Sinn become a quite outstanding chronograph supplier, not just because of that very clear high contrast design. One more thing: I choose the 144 type because this was one of the rare examples with a tachymeter on it's dial, enabelig me to read the speed per hour from a time measurement (that's why I have a chronograph / stop- watch complication). I'm working in plant engineering, so I can easily check production volumes per hour or when driving a car, check true speed (rather than believing the inaccuracy of the speedometer). I really dislike the pulse scale (that covers all speeds above 190 units / hr) of my 144 type watch (not because of speeding) on one side and on the other side I just can't understand, why buyers of chronograph watches accept when there is not tachymeter scale there - what do they need that type of watch for if not for time measurement?
Great Video, Thank so much for all your hard work putting this one together. I am more of a high end watch collector, but these Sinn watches are doing it for me. Wish there was some dealer in NYC area to try them on, i'd like to pick up a few. keep up the great work!
Great vid 👍 *SINN FOR THE WINN! Everything you need in a watch, and nothing you don't.* Typed with a 104i St Sa A (grey/H-link) on wrist - edit: I guess I'm a member of the 104 cult 🤷🏼, and with plans on a 556i RS to keep it company soon. I could dump the rest of the collection and still be perfectly happy going forward with only 2 Sinns. Well, ok, keep the G-shock solar/atomic squares, the GW5000U-1JF and the 5610U with the Ti mod. Ok, and maybe add a white 104i or 105. And *definitely* an EZM. The "U" series is 🔥. And keep a couple mod builds. But srsly, could focus my collecting niche on GER tool watches and be very satisfied. 5:45 - that grey 900! 🤤🤯🔥
I’ve been through a few 556 and 104 models looking for that perfect under the radar tough daily wearer. Finally ended up with an EZM-3 and it just feels natural, and hardly anyone wears it. Eyeing the 856i as well...
I currently own the 556I, Damanzener ( very very limited production ) and just arrived is the U50 MOP. Great brand in terms of quality , austere dials and tech
There are also a lot of very interesting and useful technical complication unique to the Sinn-brand, like Tegiment (steelhardening), Ar-gass filling with moist-absorbing capsule in the watchcase, Oil-filled Hydro-cases for under water legibility at every posssible angle.
@@ID-Guy I believe Page and Cooper is your UK go to for their products. I personally have two in my meager four watch collection from Watchbuys.com. A 104 A and an 857 UTC. Had a 103 which was a peach but sold it to buy my Tudor BBB 41. This video reminds me how practically sublime the Sinn brand is. My favorite EZM is the 9! Cheers.
Oh Scott, we speak the same language. I'd love to cover no-dates (speaking of which, it's a subject that I'll work on next week) Look up a video I did called "Why you should hate Date Complications on watches" - I think you'll find some joy from it ;)
Love my Sinn 103 sa B E and Sinn 856 S UTC - bought those VAT free plus a healthy discount a couple of years ago. Both get a lot of wears despite also having the Speedy Sapphire Sandwich, IWC Pilots chrono and Tudor Pelagos LHD in my collection.
I just purchased my first Sinn (EZM 1.1). It’s built like a bank vault. Actually, if bank vaults were built like Sinn, there would be fewer bank robberies
Thanks for covering Sinn. These are the toughest watches made... I want the 356 with acrylic crystal. Great chromo for 2k.... you should cover the special features of these...tagmented steel, copper sulfate crystals, anti magnetic and inert gases used...
Sinn is terrific. I have the 104 LE with tan lume and the contrast is still fantastic. In part it’s the little things, like the white outline on the hands that make them pop, despite the softer tan. But they don’t quite seem to know how to take their identity and translate to a dress watch. The latest ones are hard to embrace.
My big Baselworld pickup last year was the gorgeous green metallic dial LE 104 which has become a favorite I wear when I’m feeling playful on a green leather rally strap; I’m thinking the murdered-out all black U50 on black bracelet is a fittingly dark companion commemorating Baselworld’s slide into oblivion. In the 70s mood rings were a thing and today I’m more of a mood watch guy.
Impressive overview but I was missing the Sinn tool watch dedicated to hunters. I am not aware of anyone else has something similar. And the the also have the Finanzplatz watch which is quite different form the tool watches you have shown ...
I have an older 103 that's basically my daily driver. Looking at the new U50 for a future purchase. But the EZM10 really intrigues me. Too bad it's HUGE.
Thank you for the overview. If I am correct, Sinn is/was a OEM for both Bell & Ross and Porsche Design, though you would surely have more knowledge on this. I don't think there is another company that makes wristwatches at this level and price. I typically collect vintage mechanical watches, Sinn may change that rule...
One very interesting feature you didn't mention about the UX is that it is oil-filled and waterproof to 5000m. It uses an ETA quartz movement (mechanical couldn't run in an oil bath!) with a battery life of seven years. I owned one for a couple of years and liked it very much but it was too big and heavy for my skinny wrist sadly, so in the end I sold it on.

Tremendous respect for this brand as they deserve kudos. I love your Saturday night live and you are a great host with the difficult task of reading Chat as well as presenting. You are very intelligent ID Guy
Great video about a great brand. Love my 556i and 103 Ti Diapal.
Thank you IDGuy, that was a great run through of the Sinn watches that have been off of my radar.
And there are trillions more... the rabbit hole is so deep, man...
Absolutely top quality watch brand with very little amount of advertising. Next stop, Damasko!
Wow, talk about falling down a rabbit hole, that 15 minutes just flew by
I've owned four Sinn watches (556A, 856, EZM 2, currently EZM 13) and I love the brand.
Pete S right with you on the lack of retailers
And- big advantage over these today widely overpriced "brands" is, every local watchmaker can service / fix them... .
Another great video IDGuy. Sinn has definitely been a brand that has been on my radar. Well built and utilitarian tool watches at their best.
The 856 is one of my favorite watches in my collection. Which contains Rolex, Omega, JLC, etc. Simply spectacular watches
I don't own a Sinn but have always been attracted to them, I'd love to own one in the future, they have the ultimate utilitarian aesthetic and from everything I've read they can back it up, really cool brand, I think my first German watch would be a Sinn.
Notice how beautiful these matte bezels are. Much better than the shiny ceramic bezels we see nowadays.
Thanks for wonderful overview ⌚
Yeah, you now know why I love it.
Sinn watches are definitely the watch most watch enthusiasts should try. Their taste can develop from these watches even if they don't like it.
Btw, Sinn 903's design is better than Breitling's Navitimer because it has a much cleaner look IMO.
They always remind me of the Porsche 911. Engineered so precisely with no need for flashiness. Just gets the job done. Love this brand.
I really enjoyed this. You make some very interesting observations.
I definitely want to add a Sinn into my watchbox in the not-too-distant future. It's a watch that I can actually read the damn time with.
I'm so dead keen on an EZM model... the U1 really does speak to me too. Love how clean they all are!
just bought myself the 556i before the price goes up again on these, just the best value for money tool watch with decent bracelet going around.
I am glad everyone has a favorite brand of Watches. I see the same features in every watch shown here. Not my cup of tea. I think it really is for working people who dive fly drive and saves lives. This is the brand these people need. Enjoy your collectibles , Don't sell them Pass them down Good video for Sinn
what a great video. Thank you, I knew Sinn only because of the popular models... god, what I was missing
It really is incredible, right? I had no idea how deep the rabbit hole went (and this was only a taste of what they offer too) Just unreal...
Great video. I have the white dial Sinn 104 but very keen on the new U50! Thanks.
I've flipped 3 Subs in my collection. My recently purchased 104 ABE fills the Sub hole to where I doubt I'll ever feel the need to buy another Sub.
Sinn is definitely a strong favourite of mine as well as Damasko, great video!
Love the 556 great value.... I have the 104 white dial and it’s great with nato
AFAIK the 903 isn't actually a hommage, I'm pretty sure they have the rights to the design.
Helmut Sinn was best friends with Breitling.
Yes, they bought the rights from Breitling.
that was a brilliant review of the sinn loved it
Excellent Sinn overview video. Love my 856 UTC!
Sinn 144 St Sa ....the best ever Sinn..one of the best looking chronographs, period!
Own the 104 ST SA A. Lovin’ it. Plan to own more too 😇
Great Video, Thank so much for all your hard work putting this one together.
Fabulous review! always love your videos and a Sinn fan this one was amazing!
Just received the Sinn 856.7661. The tagimented matt finish looks so good in person.
I'm watching this wearing a Sinn EZM3F. Best piece I've ever owned.
Many thanks for your Video - Sinn is such a Great Brand!
Welcome to the Sinn fan club IDG!
Simply unreal pieces, man. I'm scouring the web for EZM's and U1's now....
Cheers.
The Sinn 203 with full black bezel is absolutely stunning yet so tool like in styling all in one
Loved this. I would love a video on no date watches, the symmetry is beautiful and would like to know your thoughts.
Oh Scott, we speak the same language. I'd love to cover no-dates (speaking of which, it's a subject that I'll work on next week) Look up a video I did called "Why you should hate Date Complications on watches" - I think you'll find some joy from it ;)
Excellent brand summary..great work..
I love the Sinn Flieger and the 903 Navitimer pieces.
Great review and an introduction to the entire line. Really liking Sinn.
Great video, thanks, any thoughts on the Frankfurt, financial district watches ? they look great, and also the classic ones.
Thanks for covering Sinn. These are the toughest watches made... I want the 356 with acrylic crystal. Great chromo for 2k.... you should cover the special features of these...tagmented steel, copper sulfate crystals, anti magnetic and inert gases used...
Great vid, now I blame you for getting me into Sinn 😂
I blame myself for deciding to look at their entire catalogue hahaha! Thanks for the comment brother
The 756 is such an underrated watch. Without a running seconds hand, you have possibly the cleanest, most legible chronograph out there.
Awesome lineup, they’re perfect, some day!!!
Thank you for the vid. I am still not convinced, but my curiosity is sufficiently piqued to try some out on the wrist next time I get a chance :)
Loved the presentation, now I have to go out and buy me a Sinn. The only question is where can I buy me a Sinn in the Czech Republic?
Wow what a video👏🏿👏🏿. Sinn one of my favourite brands 🔥🔥
love the style and love the utilitarian aspect - my fave brand
Tim @watchbox who has access to everything, what does he wear? Yes a Sinn, think that says a lot :)
My favorite Sinn line is actually the Frankfurt Am Main series! Dope watches.
I was hoping you would include them in the show but at the same time feared this moment...
And now it's going to be hard looking looking at other pieces again in the utility category... They are sublime!
Thank you. I enjoyed this video very much. I just love Sinn watches. Maybe the last real tool watch company.
Yup. Also I think it's the UX that's used by the GSG, not the EZM 1.1.
Loved the video, SUBSCRIBED!
