  • A few years ago I finally acquired my grail watch. But this was no ordinary grail...this watch was 140 years in the making. In this video I delve deep into the story behind one of the most important chronograph watches ever made, and a favorite of iconic actor Steve McQueen-the Hanhart 417 ES. I travel to Germany for a behind-the-scenes look at where this classic watch was created, and share the story of one of the country's greatest watch brands and how they created one of the most influential military chronographs of all time. Join me for an exclusive tour of the Hanhart watch factory in Germany's beautiful Black Forest region, where I chat with the Hanhart team about their watchmaking process, the brand's history, the creation of their museum, the evolution of their timepieces, and why they have such an exciting and promising future ahead of them.

The Hanhart factory is different from what I was expecting. I assumed it would be much more like the Swiss watch factories, as in very clinical and modern. Like a laboratory. But apart from that CNC machine and final assembly room, it still resembles what such factories must of looked like, say 60/70 years ago. I also have to mention the sheer enthusiasm of that very young CEO…he really loves what he does!

Heritage makes a company strong. And keeping the same people in the house is important too. Companies fail because they forget their heritage and let their people go. Stay strong, Hanhart. ❤️🇺🇸🦅

This is perfect timing. Just yesterday I heard, that Hanhart was equipping Luftwaffe personnel back in WW2, which was the first time I heard of the brand. Looks almost dressy. Also welcome to Germany. 🇩🇪

Yesterday I checked on wrist a 417 ES flyback reverse panda and I'm thinking whether pull the trigger or not. Your video is strongly pushing on yes direction. Great content as usual.

TGV, you need to get a custom leather jacket made for yourself and a nice pair of custom, hardcore leather boots. Two items that can age with you and look even better thirty years from now when you return to the Hanhart manufactory for the follow-up to this episode.

Thank you so much TGV for this video! Hanhart is a great brand and very under appreciated, you can see the human side of this on show here! Dedicated small team of workers unlike some massive corporate watch company’s. I’m very sure one day to pick myself one of there great watches!

TGV, absolutely amazing, thank you so much for taking us on your tour of the Hanhart factory, I for one would love to see a full documentary of Hanhart. You will be solely responsible for me acquiring the 417, what a beautiful piece, just seeing where and how it's made with such precision to detail and passion for their timepieces was a joy to watch, I can't wait to get this on my wrist, Thankyou

A very good production, this. Seeing how a watch company operates means a lot when you spend relatively much money on a mechanical watch. Knowing that your Hanhart is made almost entirely inhouse by local workers in a socially responsible country is major plus and should be more in focus in relation to other watch brands! I will choose a Hanhart for my next watch purchase! Cheers.

They are so likeable at Hanhart, this is really a great but modest and sincere company.
In 2001 I've asked them to do me a 1941 Replica in steel with the gold plated, decorated 7751 movement of the "Gold Chronograph" and they actually did it!
The watch was running on the wrist at + 1 second per day and lost in position crown up 1 second during the night. After 9 months I've stopped controlling the watch since it kept that performance: incredible!

Hanhart is my grail watch. During a recent trip to Europe I was disappointed that the only Hanhart dealer in the country I was visiting had no watches on their floor. But I am undaunted! Your video was a beautifully filmed, deep dive into scholarship topped off with ladles of genuine enthusiasm for the brand. I am dying to get a 417es on my wrist!!
