  • 2022 Kia Forte GT Line review by The Straight Pipes. The Kia Forte GT-Line is putting down 147 horsepower and 132 lb-ft of torque from a 2L 4 cylinder. At $27,045 CAD, would you take it over the Honda Civic, Hyundai Elantra, Mazda 3, Toyota Corolla, Nissan Sentra?

    I'd definitely take the horsepower, power seats, and lumbar over a 360 camera. That kind of thing makes sense to a degree in big SUVs and such but if you need that many cameras to park compact car you need to take a driving course I feel.

    Trunk space in the Forte is 15.3 cu ft, which is not only bigger than anything in the compact class, but bigger than a Toyota Camry's trunk! For those of us thinking about "sizing down" for our family vehicle, a big trunk makes a big difference!

      @@mistergoodcitizen9914 After a few rental hatchbacks, I developed a rule when renting cars: "As long as it has a trunk." I'm sure there are exceptions, but I consistently found it much easier to pack bikes and bags and kids and dogs and stuff into even a Nissan Sentra. On the other hand, the Ford Focus hatch and Mazda3 had me cursing and busting out my bike rack. Sure, if you can flop down the rear seats, maybe hatchbacks win on "more useful space," but if you need your backseats up and in place, TRUNKS FOR THE WIN! IMO!

      It for sure is. Instead of just jamming as many freaking gears as possible like all these 9 and 10 speeds in order to stay in the optimal RPM range, just use these simple and light little trannys that can pick whatever RPM it wants based on needs. I get they can't handle much power so leave them for the economy cars. Now we just got to wait and see if they stand the test of time and abuse.

    I just bought a 2022 Kia Rio last week, and I will attest to the fact that the IVT (what Kia calls a CVT) is fantastic. Rented a 2020 Kia Forte for a few hundred miles during a road trip I took to Nevada, and can report that *both* the Forte and Rio's IVT transmissions are excellent.
    I typically dislike CVT's for the weird rubberband-like feeling and slow response times off the line...I was having those annoying issues with the 2017 Corolla iM hatchback that I traded in. Terribly slow off the line and would have to put it into manual mode often to compensate (such as when I had to wait at a metering light at the bottom of the on-ramp to a freeway), which killed my fuel economy.
    Not having any of those issues whatsoever with the Rio though. No weird lag, no dead zones within the power band...just smooth, linear fake shifts that I can't even tell are fake. In other words...it feels like a regular automatic transmission. Even better is the fact that I ended up getting 45.2 MPG for my first fillup with their IVT. Superb gas mileage for a non-hybird; I'm thrilled with the savings at the pump. Great job, Kia.

    • @FreewayBrent
      @FreewayBrent 2 года назад

      @WTFx Sorry, I just read your comment. I went with the Rio, simply because the Forte's suspension (base/standard models) was vastly too stiff over broken pavement for me...a bit strange, since both cars use a rear torsion beam, but Kia did a somewhat better job with the dampening in the Rio, so it's not anywhere near as firm. Also, the front seats are certainly more comfortable in the Rio vs. the Forte. You get some more features in the Forte, but the somewhat better ride quality and front seat comfort tipped me toward the Rio.

I'm not a fan of this refresh. I'm very happy with the way the GT handles with the better suspension and the 1.6T is powerful enough for daily driving. It also now looks like Kia has discontinued the manual in Canada for the GT and hatch which when I got mine was a shade over $26,000. It was a great value. Super happy with it.

      @porfiriato84 2 года назад +2

      Why are you "mad?"
      Y'all need to understand this is kia's most affordable model. Made for people on a budget. Its not always about higher HP or making an N line so to say. If that happened it'll take the price up to 30k+ (USD) just get a different car if you want more HP.

    • @scottbast3678
      @scottbast3678 2 года назад

      @Tayger Woods correct, as there is a civic, and a civic type r, you can easily do both. I love the forte, it would be perfect with more power. Mad was a poor choice of word, but the point stands as it has for a long time. Inpreza/sti, golf/gti, lancer/evo, veloster/veloster n, camaro/ss. Pretty simple to understand really.

    • @porfiriato84
      @porfiriato84 2 года назад

      @@scottbast3678 fair point. But again it's about price point. Those cars you mentioned are 35k and up. There's an audience for cars like the forte gt line for a reason. Not everyone needs 260hp they just want a cheap car that takes them from point a to b
      I just don't think the Forte needs an "N version." It's becoming too saturated.

    • @scottbast3678
      @scottbast3678 2 года назад

      @Tayger Woods i think kia can give me that car though with the affordability. I own an 09 cobalt ss. It beats almost every car out there, im just looking for something that i can upgrade to. Nothing short of a stinger or type r beats it.

    • @porfiriato84
      @porfiriato84 2 года назад

      @@scottbast3678 that's not how it works dude. You can't want an affordable forte that has 260hp+. Then they'd have to cut corners and make the interior cheap and plastic everywhere which means people whining. People always complain about something.

      I was wondering...how are the overall quality of roads in your area? I rented a 2020 Forte LX for a long road trip and found the rear torsion beam to be way too stiff and rough for some of California's poorly maintained roads, which was a deal-breaker for me. That was a shame because I loved just about everything else about the current-generation Forte, including the IVT and fuel economy. I just got a 2022 Kia Rio, but for whatever bizarre reason, the rear torsion beam tuning feels considerably more compliant vs. the Forte over potholes and other bad pavement conditions. Not sure if you've found your rear torsion beam tuning to be an annoyance at times?

  • @JustinPennito

    I agree about the IVT. I now have a GT Forte & I do like the DCT more, but I did have a GT-Line previously & yes, the IVT was very impressive. In the U.S., we've had the GT-Line for the same amount of time as the GT. Highway drive assist is great in both as well. Everyone else's GT-Line is different than ours, at least with the headlights. They're different & better, than the lower trims, but they're also not the same ones in the GT either, whereas everyone else's GT-Lines have the GT's headlights, minus the exhaust & slightly smaller rims, y'all's GT-Line looks more identical to the GT than ours. None of them have heated steering wheels, which I do miss out of my Sentra SV Premium (which also had the beautiful tan leather interior that you can only get in a Forte in South Korea), but that didn't have ventilated seats, as my Forte GT does, which is great considering I'm in Louisiana, where we suffer more from hot weather, than we do from cold weather.
