      Back in Vancouver canada in the late 90's, I bought a rare hatchback 6 speed Civic VX. Didn't know the importance of it because every 3 weeks I would get notes on the windshield to sell the car. And it had MILES, not Km's like in Canada. I "knew" then after I broke the front axle and left it on a side street for recovery. 5 days later when I returned, there were NOTES on the windshield naming prices they would buy it. I said "who buys cars with a broken axle with above market price? Are they insane?"
      I had no repair money back then as the insurance co said it was my fault so I sold it double to one guy who had the highest bid. He said he didnt care about the axle, he wanted the engine and the transmission.

      Most definitely. All because it's beautiful, it's powerful for its weight and we don't care about comfort since it's not that pricey.
      For the newest gens, they seem too pricey for what they sell and how uncomfortable they are.

    • @jinxtacy
      @jinxtacy Год назад +12

      @@Felrock12 They actually rode well if you weren't stupid and modified them with garbage, but we were poor. The suspension was great and by comparison, all modern cars are fast. I think part of the charm was the character of the motor and the induction noises, the crossover, the potential, and the aftermarket. I remember always wondering why Honda refused to compete with everyone else with turbos and looking back I get it way more now. Looking back at the history of a motorcycle manufacturers doing everything by themselves and the cars made so much sense in their evolution especially outside of America. Where there were the Cosworths and Yamahas lending their expertise in cylinder head design Honda was doing the same on their own. Cable clutch aside, I'd probably toss the EF in as the trinity. Civic lost me in 06+. I think it was just lacking much character with the non-ergonomic mouse shape. What I dislike about them also was that they felt larger while having less space inside somehow. The competition also plays a huge role and if you compare the experience of a Civic in the 90s to a Cavalier or a Neon of the same time period the difference was staggering. I think the 90s Sentra SE-R actually stood up pretty well and the SR20 was a nice torquey experience. MKIII VR6 maybe? I'm still interested in picking one up after I finish the current build.

    • @jinxtacy
      @jinxtacy Год назад +1

      @@deancoronado4898 I think a lot of 90s interiors being plain is something I kind of like about them. They seem to hold up better if the plastics don't get too brittle or dashes crack. I think Honda was a bit better with their plastic choices, Toyota was good, and Mazda was very poor in the plastics they used. Then again I think it almost got worse in the 2000s. Personally I dislike "soft touch" quality that journalist rave about after sitting in more than enough aged BMWs and VWs to just see what a mess they turn into in under 100k. Just my preference though.
      I don't remember too much about an LSD. I just remember it being a torquey experience that seemed to fair well against the Hondas of the day with less HP. You really had to be getting after it to really notice the lack of an LSD at

      This! The American version of the 8th gen Civic looks so bad. Where I consider the European one, the best looking one, especially in its Type R variant. Very impressive, can't wait to see you drive every honda civic! Especially considering that 133,000 honda civics were sold in the US alone in 2022!

      @@leonbowers500 and the EUDM EP3 is better than USDM. We had the type R with the K20A2, US had the K20A3. Then, yanno...Japan had the WAY better one

    Several years ago I got a 98' manual. I had never regretted any of my cars sold but that Civic. I had never felt the greatness and joy to drive again, been looking for another but hard to find. This video brought me a big smile

    Interesting that you chose a Civic that you remember from your early teens. I was the same way, but for me it was muscle cars from the late 60s to the early 70s. BTW I had a 1978 Civic first gen in college, it was a ripper with 68 hrspwrs, lol.

    I had that red '86 back in the 90's. The exact same car. It even had the same sound when you started it. I put 250,000 miles till the engine died. I also had an '85 CRX Si, and an '87 Prelude Si. Love those Hondas.

    I owned a 77 Civic hatchback. It was an awesome car for the city. Plenty of pep at low speeds, maneuverable, and was so short it made finding parking spots a breeze.
    Excellent gas mileage. With the rear seat down had pretty good storage capacity. With rear seat up, rear passengers has decent room. And it was great in the snow.
    Downside was the lack off a 5th gear. Got very loud on the highway at 70mph.

    Proud to hear that you guys rated the EM1 first. I was fortunate enough to learn stick back in 07 on a 98 Civic DX hatch. It changed the course of my life. I was an aimless, depressed kid until I found myself ripping through gears, redlining every shift pushing my tires to the limit every night. Not only did it change my hobbies, but I got into logistics as a result. From there, I went on to building cars, and now I’m in logistics in the plant building the cars we make. It literally changed my career too. I owe who I am to the EM1.

      I learned to drive stick a couple years ago in an '00 Sedan. I still think about it, and I miss that car dearly. We had to sell it because we just didn't have the room for it.

    Just replaced my 97 civic hatchback with a 24. I loved that hatchback and it’s still running fine, though the interior was in rough shape (carpet ceiling sloughed off, etc). I switched out bc I take occasional longer rides and felt like it was time. It’s lower though so I miss the higher front on the 97. Also always had great pickup.
