The biggest difference is in the engine design. I'd get the Civic if it weren't for the history of oil dilution issue for the .5L. That 2.0L is solid as a rock and that is more valuable than any Civic advantages combined.

I'm really hoping Honda doesn't screw up the next gen Accord. If they go backwards in power or performance at all, I will be disappointed. The current Accord 2.0T is very quick but the new offerings from Kia/Hyundai are even a bit quicker. The next gen Accord should not lose any ground to its competitors in terms of performance.
Great video, was really interested in the handling of both. Love that civic. I’ve driven a lot of sports cars, old and new, and my 2016 civic handling is unmatched. Best car ever
I'm 6'4 and when I was hunting for cars I tried the 2016 civic it was way to cramped, but the 2013 accord I settled on was just right for what I needed.
Just bought a 2013 Civic myself as a 6'2" dude, it's certainly not a midsized car but it's cozy enough. The Accord from that year only has half an inch more for leg room, so the perception of less space in the Civic is just that...a perception 😛 Civics do more with less space, I think that's what puts them on top. But Accord is where the best performance is at, so that would also be a consideration if speed and high acceleration mattered to you over economy.
@@bernlin2000 dude, both of them aren’t fast and I don’t think it would be a difference driving any of those cars because you want really be racing them. I don’t really think people should compare performance in family cats

Or even an Accord Hybrid. Just recently realized that Honda now makes an Accord "Sport," Hybrid for 2022 as well. I really like that too.
Loving that civic has a brand new design, but I wish it had a more aggressive/sporty look. Also I wish it had more features like cooling seats and a heated steering wheel, plus lumbar support would’ve been nice. Overall it seems like a great upgrade from my 2013 civic lx, I can’t wait

I like how they said "it would be expensive to 'retrofit' adaptive suspension" when the previous gen Si had adaptive dual mode shocks... Works perfectly and hasn't needed to be replaced so... Honda did it right, and the car was still cheaper than the current model with more equipment.
1-22-2023, 3:19AM, PST : My wife and I purchased a 2023 Honda Civic Sport 2.0L about 3 weeks ago. We R loving it. We had a 1998 Honda Accord in which we had for 24 years. The accord was totaled in an accident, so we replaced it with the new civic. We took very good care of the Accord up until this point. Hopefully, we'll get the same amount of time out of the new civic. I quite enjoyed the side-by-side comparison of these 2 Honda's. 🐢 😀 🐢 👍 🐢 🚘
I have the same gen accord with the 2.0L turbo engine & the 10-speed transmission. 100% worth the upgrade, the transmission is so smooth and makes great power in 3rd and 4th gear. It's so fast and will be very receptive to some engine tuning :)
Did the same comparison. Ended up getting the accord due to comfortability and back seat space. I also noticed a big difference when driving it on the highway. The accord was just comfortable and the civic felt like my 2010 Toyota Corolla and I was not having any of it. Both amazing cars but for my needs the accord was the way to go.
Watching the video, my eyes fell on the Accord much more often. Its larger size seems to balance all of the car's lines better than its little brother, the Civic. For me, it would be 100% the Accord 2.0T. Love that engine. If it were an Accord 1.5T, I might would consider the Civic Touring. To me, the Accord Touring 2.0T's price is justifiable.
@@yaruby3008 MSRP in the USA is right around $38k. I picked up my CPO '20 Accord Touring 2.0T a year ago with 7k miles on it for $30k. I was very fortunate to buy one right before used car prices went through the roof. I could sell it now for more than what I paid for it, even with more miles on it. However, I am not looking to do that. I love it and am eager to see what Honda will do with the '23 complete redesign of the Accord.
As an accord owner of a 2.4 natural aspirated I4, I can verify that the smaller engine option in the Accord sucks. Perhaps a bit les with the 1.5 turbo but if I did it again I’d definitely go with the bigger engine for sure
I strayed from a lifelong Honda owner to a Mazda in 2021. I ultimately bought a Mazda CX 30 turbo which you guys reviewed. I’ve been very happy with the purchase.
There is a way to completely turn off civic traction. I don’t know if you guys did this. When i first saw this i thought it wouldn't work but it does. Here it is: 1. Turn the car to one position. 2. Parking brake off. 3. Press and hold the brake pedal. 4. Turn traction control on and off. 5. Parking brake on. 6. Release the brake pedal. 7. Turn traction control on and off. 8. Press and hold the brake pedal. 9. Turn traction control on and off.
I have a 2016 Civic Touring and just bought a 2022 Honda Accord 2.0T Touring. The Accord is so much better in every aspect except for gas mileage and turning radius.
I had the 2016 touring and have regretted trading that for 2 years. how do you think the 2022 compares? I'm considering going back to it but I loved that v6
Great comparison. I think the Civic is the one. You can't beat that fuel economy these days. I'm predicting that gas prices are not going down significantly. Ever. There's too much crazy stuff going on in the world and our country and I don't see an end to it.
To me, it’s not contest unless you absolutely have to have the smaller car. The Accord 2.0T is a great car, fuel efficient, plenty of power, loads of tech, looks good, and you’re not saddled with a CVT and get a solid 10 speed gearbox
Better fuel economy though in the Civic, which does matter to a lot of people. For me, since I'm sometimes in San Francisco, parking the Accord there would be a challenge, so I'd go for the Civic.
@@-SP. That's why I'm swapping out my 2018 Corolla iM hatchback for a 2022 Kia Rio next week. I rented one a month ago and was getting an astonishing 44-45 MPG on the highway with the CVT, which uses a chain instead of a belt. At $18,000 and with the way cars are being marked up, I couldn't say no for the price and big savings I'll enjoy on the fuel.
@@namvet1968 In non-pandemic times, I could have gotten one for $16,000. Most dealerships are charging $20,000+ for them now, which is why I bought mine 5 hours away. Driving up there next week to trade in my car and pick up the new Rio. Comes standard with a 60,000 mile bumper to bumper and 100,000 mile powertrain warranty.
I have a 2018 civic and the sound proof is not very good honestly, but 10 gen civic has the most aggressive designed of its exterior which I like it the most.
A CVT doesn't have set gear ratios. Some have a manual mode which does have sort of set ratios but a CVT is continuously variable which means it's essentially just contracting and expanding and making almost infinite set of gears. That's why they are so fuel efficient
For the price I would take the Civic. Almost as roomy, love the advanced airbags and better fuel mileage. When backing the Accord you looked down to shift both times while in Civlc never looked down. And liked the clicking noise in the Civic better. I’m not a buyer for either car but that’s my .02 cents worth. Great videos as always!
The accord is nicer in my opinion because who doesn’t love a more luxurious car but I would choose the civic I feel safer I got into a really bad accident in mine and I can really say those bags saved me.
Interesting comparo. I did my own back in 2008 and decided on getting a used 2004 accord in the highest trim. However I really like the latest gen civic. In terms of refinement, quality and features, the gap between the two seems smaller. I like you using the parking lot to demo the turning radius.
Was considering either to get an accord or civic as my first car for my freshman year in college. This was a great comparison video between these 2 cars. I’m leaning towards the accord because of the exterior and interior design 🤩😁
I got a 2018 2.0T Accord as soon as I got out of high school, it's definitely a must have it is amazing. The 2021 refresh is much better with wireless carplay, now just waiting for the 2023 Type-R
I got a 2018 1.5t late 2021, absolutely 0 complaints brother, fuel economy and design is amazing and it drives great, not the fastest thing in the world but its no slouch either in sport mode.
I actually have both cars, a 2021 accord sport, and a 2022 civic touring. I like the civic better, cheaper for almost the same car. The main thing I only pay $96 full coverage for the civic , and $126 for the accord.
Depends on the year and trim level, but I was able to negotiate a 2020 Accord Sport for $2400 more than the 2020 Civic Hatch Sport (new and in 2020). At that price, seemed a no brainer and that I’d likely regret not getting the larger car and extra features. Also, this is a last year versus first year comparison. The difference will likely NOT be 10k. Civic will go closer to sticker as a new redesign where the Accords will likely need incentives to move since a new Accord is coming in 2023. So it will not be a 10k difference in final price.
Thank you for this comparison. My 2010 Accord LXP finally got into the dealer for the Takata airbag & I got a 2021 Accord Sport loaner... I thought for sure the 2010 would be my last Honda but the 2021 Accord has me reconsidering. Then I looked at the price tag for Accord Sport vs Civic Si & there was only around $5k difference (along with the $5k & $4k "Market adjustment"). Your comparisons (having owned 2 Civics & 2 Accords since 1994) both helped & didn't ^_^ Looks like it'll come down to test drives + monthly payments.
Bought a 2021 Accord Touring Hybrid , hated the “premium audio” and low profile tires that rode hard. Added decent speakers ,amplifier and went down in rim-tire size, major improvement. Actually which they offered phev and 300 + hp on the Accord , that would be awesome.
Does reducing the rim/tire size below the manufacturer's stock size negatively impact handling and steering in any way? I've always wondered about that. One thing I hate about the 17 inch alloy stock wheels on my 2018 Toyota Corolla iM over the 15 inch standard wheels in the Australian model of the same hatchback (which I've driven several times over in Sydney) is that the 17 inch alloy wheels and tires just flat out ride harder and make the car as a whole bouncier. Can't stand it. I'm actually in the process of downgrading to a 2022 Kia Rio sedan. Had the 2018 Rio hatchback (same generation and both ride on the same wheelbase) and the 15 inch tires made that car more stable and planted vs. what I'm experiencing in my Corolla iM.
@@FreewayBrent I went from 18" to 17" in a Civic and it made a big difference but the shocks are worn out now. That makes a big difference too. Hopefully I don't have to replace control arms and bushings.
Had a 2018 Accord 2.0. Only complaint was the audio system. It had the 450watt premium audio with sub. It was mediocre at best. My old 2005 Accord with premium sound was bumping better because it was rocking 6x9 speakers on the rear. Only advantage of the 2018 audio was slight audio clarity and android auto / apple carplay
I agree it's not the best, next generation will fix that for sure, however I had a 2017 Accord and the 2018 is definitely an improvement, not groundbreaking, but it's way better than 2017

@@diego04cr2 not sure why you're looking for "exciting/amazing/cutting edge" with an entry-level luxury brand that still undercuts its rivals on lower-priced trim levels. the rdx and mdx have great reviews and the integra is based on a solid si. the only good argument against acura really should be that the koreans are legit direct competitors that also offer solid value propositions, but their trade off for the added luxury/features is driving dynamics.
HUD is radically underrated. I have the touring accord and it’s my favorite feature
The biggest difference is in the engine design. I'd get the Civic if it weren't for the history of oil dilution issue for the .5L. That 2.0L is solid as a rock and that is more valuable than any Civic advantages combined.
You guys should do more of these entry vs high-end sedans for other models! I would definitely look forward to those!
Accord is not the high end sedan.
After decades of seeing accords and civics, I honestly cannot tell them apart in this generation.
The winner: my 8th gen Accord coupe with a 3.5L V6.

Without a doubt. Kind of a Unicorn these days.

I spend way too much of my free time watching automotive journalists talk about cars, and you two are one of my favorites for sure. I absolutely love watching your banter plus you're so knowledgeable. This "versus" style video is very impressive and must have taken some serious effort to edit together. At the end of the day I would not be caught dead driving a Civic or an Accord, but I would watch you both talking about them and anything else with four wheels any day. Please keep up the impeccable work.
Thank you so much for this comment. Really keeps up motivated 🙌
the way yall went about comparing these cars is very well put together
this was so fun to watch! I was smiling the entire time
With how good the accord still is after 5 years, I just cant wait for the new actual redesign for it.
10th Gen is peak Accord, I'm afraid next one will be a let down.
@@YasssStitch Same! Unfortunately a lot of brands have been screwing up their new gen designs :(
@@YasssStitch I'd say the 9th gen Accord was the peak. It's better styled than the 10th gen, IMO.
@@a32tl what similar priced offerings from Hyundai/ Kia are quicker then the accord?
I have no complaints about my 19 Accord Touring for a daily driver. Excellent car!

The Civic has gotten so big. It’s a 7/8th scale Accord.
to be fair. that’s my only complain against the 11th gen civic
Yeah, in some angles they look basically the same in size.
You can get the hatchback, it's shorter than the sedan
@@zhila5958 it’s the same size as the last generation
The last "small" Civic was the 7th gen though.
I really like the new Civic front design. I'm not a big fan of the rear I feel like it looks too basic but overall the new Civic looks very clean.
The hatchback is nice though
I thought the old design with the tail lights integrated into the trunk lid looked really stupid.

@@NorthernLaw_ I meant the way the lights blend onto the top of the trunk.
@@andrewn6384 Yeah I'm still confused, how are they different? I mean the designs are different but both the 9th and 10th gen accords have the taillights on the trunk
Honestly for daily use, w this ongoing inflation and absurd gas prices, I would take cvt all day. Hybrid even better.
Same. Like I’m honestly debating getting an old Insight on Craigslist at this point 😂 these gas prices are crazy!
1.5 cvt accord is better instead of civic more comfortable and a good cruiser
@Rotchild
I've been thinking the same, especially because I like the more modern 10th gen Civic/Insight design better than the 11th gen Civic, with the possible exception of the new Civic Hatch. Or even an Accord Hybrid. Just recently realized that Honda now makes an Accord "Sport," Hybrid for 2022 as well. I really like that too.
Accord Hybrid is bussing
I have a 2018 Honda Accord base hybrid and I’m averaging 40mpg after 6500 miles it’s been awesome
I have a 2012 civic lx, still runs like a dream , m sure urs too..
It does have heated steering wheel. Or at least the Canadian spec does.
Literally, the 10th gen, the body style before this one has the aggressive sporty look...they took all of that out in this gen civic.
I'm looking to upgrade from my hand me down 04 honda civic lx! OLD ass car looking to give it a 2022 upgrade lol
In my opinion I like that it seems more mature as opposed to sporty. Just my taste tho 🤷♂️
I think the accord looks better over all, but I feel the Civic would be more fun to drive daily. Great video!
This generation of the Accord is legendary - it's like a German luxury sedan for less money. Either way Honda makes the best sedans in their classes

My grandpa, I call him Papo, has a that same color 2022 Honda Accord. His philosophy is that since he doesn’t have that much time left, he might as well get something nice. And damnit, it is NICE. Hands down the most luxurious car I’ve ever driven and been in
I like how they said "it would be expensive to 'retrofit' adaptive suspension" when the previous gen Si had adaptive dual mode shocks... Works perfectly and hasn't needed to be replaced so... Honda did it right, and the car was still cheaper than the current model with more equipment.
Thank you Mr. Yuri for the “leak”

: My wife and I purchased a 2023 Honda Civic Sport 2.0L about 3 weeks ago.
🐢 😀 🐢 👍 🐢 🚘
The zooming interior shot is beautiful. The civic is very youthful, while the accord is very classy
Hands down the civic ! That clicking noise sounds like it was engineered by a watchmaker. Perfection.
Just picked up a brand new civic and absolutely love it, your guys video was one of the reasons I moved so fast on it🙌
Congrats
When the Civic hatchback came out they were marked up right to Accord pricing, which really made the Accord seem like a better deal.
I would take the accord for the transmission, but civic still pretty good. Great video
And that detuned Type R engine
I hope the 10 speed goes into the Integra

@@R4M_Tommy Probably too low of power to put the 10 speed. The 8-Speed DCT that they use in other Acura products might be better.
Stick Accord Hatch ... would be heavnly
Isn’t the accord touring 2.0 like 40k?
$42k for new Accord? Epic fail.

The Accord Sport 2.0T is definitely the best choice - better than the civic and cheaper than the accord touring

There is a way to completely turn off civic traction. I don’t know if you guys did this. When i first saw this i thought it wouldn't work but it does. Here it is:

I have a 2016 Civic Touring and just bought a 2022 Honda Accord 2.0T Touring. The Accord is so much better in every aspect except for gas mileage and turning radius.
I had the 2016 touring and have regretted trading that for 2 years. how do you think the 2022 compares? I'm considering going back to it but I loved that v6
THIS is the quality normal car content we need!
"..does it do that in your civic??"
"No but I have a spare 10 grand in my pocket"
I love the way you did this video! Best way to do a comparison
Genius idea for a video..more of this please
Great comparison. I think the Civic is the one. You can't beat that fuel economy these days. I'm predicting that gas prices are not going down significantly. Ever. There's too much crazy stuff going on in the world and our country and I don't see an end to it.
Sad thing is all by design aka great reset.
Maybe sometime in or after 2024 things could return to a more normalcy.

@@FreewayBrent Wow! A new Kia Rio for 18 grand? What's your warranty?

Comes standard with a 60,000 mile bumper to bumper and 100,000 mile powertrain warranty.
I have a 2018 civic and the sound proof is not very good honestly, but 10 gen civic has the most aggressive designed of its exterior which I like it the most.
A CVT doesn't have set gear ratios. Some have a manual mode which does have sort of set ratios but a CVT is continuously variable which means it's essentially just contracting and expanding and making almost infinite set of gears. That's why they are so fuel efficient
Honda makes them simulate gears as do many manufacturers
I sat in the si at the Houston autoshow....the manual shifter felt great...push button shifters suck because you have to look.
I would love the accord if it had a sport back option 😭
The lack of ventilated front seats is a bummer for the Civic.
What do you give a crap about ventilated seats. Put on the air conditioning.
Great videos as always!
once you get used to the accord with the push buttons you don't have to look down
A CV-R price is about the same as Accord. As working for a Honda part supplier, orders are high for a new CR-V and very low for Accord

My dad got a 2020 2.0t touring fully loaded accord for $32,000 cad used with 40,000km.
Your comparisons (having owned 2 Civics & 2 Accords since 1994) both helped & didn't ^_^
Looks like it'll come down to test drives + monthly payments.
I’ve had to look twice when seeing the new Civic. From a distance it’s hard to tell.
I don't really see it. I think the more stretched Accord has much better proportions, in comparison to the stubby Civic.
Bought a 2021 Accord Touring Hybrid , hated the “premium audio” and low profile tires that rode hard. Added decent speakers ,amplifier and went down in rim-tire size, major improvement. Actually which they offered phev and 300 + hp on the Accord , that would be awesome.
Next generation Accord should be out sooner than later. Hopefully a PHEV will be included in the lineup.
