The current generation Sentra has a belly pan that extends nearly half the length of the car & you have to remove about 25 plastic clips just to remove it to change the oil. The Altima has about 8 clips on its belly pan & is much more user friendly. The 19 inch tires on the Altima are a pain to mount onto the wheels.
It needs the extra hp since it weighs about 500 lbs more. The hp/weight ratio is 0.048 for both the 1997 Sentra SE and the 2022 Sentra SR; hp/weight ratio for the 1997 SE-R was .056.
These cars are actually both underrated. The Altima will pull .93Gs on a skidpad on all-seasons--Nissan also uses a lot of aluminum in the Altima's suspension. It's unfortunate that Renault doesn't do much for the Sentra's chassis calibrations as it shares a platform with the Megane. Also, the Sentra deserves an engine which matches the design and chassis, both of which are well-regarded. The cars both have unfortunate reputations, meaning very few people order the Altima with that excellent turbo. My choice would be the Altima as the 2.5 liter has enough power to enable aggressive driving, where the Sentra doesn't. Also, it's a Nissan through and through. Against the Sentra, I'd probably choose a new Civic or Jetta.
Those midnight editions look good, but I'd want something a bit quicker to match the look. I think if you just need to buy one of these two, a used low-miles Sentra in base form is where you can get your $$$'s worth. You can find it with a 6-speed manual which makes it quicker and gets rid of the CVT which has been the only significant reliability issue with them.
My grandma had a silver 1996 Sentra she got for her birthday of that year, she drove it until 2014 when she traded it in for 2014kia rio hatch, it was such a reliable car! Hope these new gen nissians keep up with their old reliable reputation.
They just turned the Sentra into a baby Altima but they are both horrendously slow and don't get me started on the CVT that's the worst transmission you can ever have
@BradIey's Car Reviews CVTs suck who wants simulated gears that's just plain dumb. they're more prone to failure than a actual automatic transmission and also the acceleration is God awful with a CVT
@@avrggamer69 while I agree about CVT sucking, you know most cars are now CVT as well. Civic-CTV, Corolla-CVT, Elantra-CVT. Only real exception now a days is Vw with either dual clutch or regular transmissions. Unless!!! You get the highest models, like a civic si,
@@avrggamer69 What i hate about CVTs is that some manufacturers program them to only a finite number of gear ratios. That really kills the advantage of a CVT, that is, ideal gear ratio at every speed. Some manufacturers, like Honda and Toyota, have mastered CVTs, while some like JATCO (the brand supplying CVTs for Nissan) suck.
There was a comment made at the 6:20 mark in the video that the Sentra does NOT have 360 viewing in which case it does. i’ve got a 2018 midnight edition altima and i gotta say, for the price i picked it up for it’s a great car. i keep on top of maintenance (coolant, transmission fluid, oil, brakes, and tires) and she runs like a champ. i’ve made a few minor modifications to mine for that fun factor too. z rated tires, catback exhaust, injen SRI, and a 93 octane fuel map+speed limiter removal. the 2.5 actually sounds really good given the right exhaust setup, and so far i’ve managed to top mine out at 140ish. that’s all the speed and fun i need, and the factory SR suspension handles surprisingly well for a FWD car of its size.

Nissan, along with Mitsubishi, has become the car brand for people with crappy credit. That’s who they sell to, so major innovations and adding more power aren’t that necessary, because it’s the car of last resort after a buyer got turned down for financing at other brands’ dealerships

I think Toyota's and Honda's CVTs are pretty good. CVTs are just one of the last few things to make internal combustion engines more efficient along with the small engines with a turbo like the latest Civics. But I don't think they'll be as reliable as older less efficient engines in the long run

Currently own a 23’ Sentra SV. Absolutely love it. Opted for a luxurious peanut butter interior which is only available in SV premium packages, over the sporty exterior/black interior look of the SR. No difference in speed, so no need to look faster. Rather look more luxurious than sporty. I always receive compliments from people who step in my car or see the interior. But they do need to give Sentra’s an option for Turbo and AWD for SR Editions. It would be a top seller among Sentras, Civics, Elantras and Corollas.
I'm a Working Class slob. I'd rather keep the $7,000.... in the bank, accruing interest. Maybe take half of that out for a well-deserved, relaxing vacation. I haven't had one so far this decade! Also, I just like smaller cars (easier to park) and detest paddle-shifters. Sentra for me, out of these two.
@Null Ehhh I doubt we'll see any of these CVT equipped Nissans in 20 years lol. Almost nobody who buys one takes care of them and I feel like even if you do tale care of it the CVT is bound to fail at some point.
AWD is great to have where I live so I actually bought a 22 Altima SV AWD. It's not fast but faster than the Impreza Sport I had while getting better gas mileage with more space for family trips so I'm happy. Besides the AWD the Altima is bigger in width and length.
I think Nissan has the same problem as Honda. They've made their compact car so big that it's nearly indistinguishable from their mid-size. Thinking about that, I'd take either Honda over these.
Yeah I have been feeling as of recent that the accord and Altima is starting to feel redundant unless you really want more horsepower. I miss when the civic and Sentra were small cars, and now I’m certain they are bigger than my moms old Honda Accord. Economy is the numbers game when gas is $5 a gallon.
@@Hallowsaw yea I agree. It is what it is
Thats still pathetic to be charging a full price for that
that's Mr. 10 more hp to you, Sir.
It needs the extra hp since it weighs about 500 lbs more. The hp/weight ratio is 0.048 for both the 1997 Sentra SE and the 2022 Sentra SR; hp/weight ratio for the 1997 SE-R was .056.
Brands having a consistent design language across all their models can go too far to make them all look alike.
YESSSS you noticed! IF they put effort back into the Sentra its a wrap for this segment. They will dominate.
I love the size of the Sentra but wish it had the engine of the Altima
Ah yes... "aggressive driving" in an Altima
Altima offers an optional turbo engine
Just get the 6 speed like I did, drives like a completely different car. Ain’t no sports car but its way more fun to drive.

@@BoldBrandFlakes Hyundai? The brand that still has their cars catching on fire? 🔥🔥
i’ve got a 2018 midnight edition altima and i gotta say, for the price i picked it up for it’s a great car. i keep on top of maintenance (coolant, transmission fluid, oil, brakes, and tires) and she runs like a champ.
i’ve made a few minor modifications to mine for that fun factor too. z rated tires, catback exhaust, injen SRI, and a 93 octane fuel map+speed limiter removal. the 2.5 actually sounds really good given the right exhaust setup, and so far i’ve managed to top mine out at 140ish. that’s all the speed and fun i need, and the factory SR suspension handles surprisingly well for a FWD car of its size.
Sucks that Nissan uses Jatco CVT's really hurts the brand's reliability. But at least you can get the Sentra in a 6-speed manual.
That CVT is really holding Nissan back

Like some have mentioned, I'm still waiting for an SE-R Sentra. Also missing my NX2000. Nissan is okay, but they used to have really good/fun cheap cars, if you knew what to get. Now they're just OK.
I like the Sentra’s front bumper design over Altima’s, it looks sharper and sportier, but for me Altima is better in other qualities like AWD, size and engine..
Would be cool to see a maxima review, seems like an underrated sedan
The problem with the Maxima is that once you get into that price range there are lots of better alternatives
Yeah I have a 2017 and I've had a rental Altima recently and I still think the Max beats it in every way.
The Maxima would be such a great car if it didn’t have a CVT. I wish they would throw a 9 speed in there.
@@BoldBrandFlakes So true, I have a 2020 Maxima Platinum and that is the one thing I wish for. My Wife has the Toyota Avalon Limited and I wish I could combine to two. The Toyota has a very good 8 speed transmission but lacks the style of the Maxima.
I have a 2012 Nissan Sentra S with over 247,000 miles on it. Never had an issue with the original CVT. I changed the fluid every 60,000 miles as required in the owner’s manual. For the 2022 Sentra, the US-spec SR trim’s with the optional premium package adds a 360° camera system.
I always get depressed driving by strip malls and office buildings and seeing all the generations of Sentras, Altimas, and Maxima's lined up and down the rows. Nissan, along with Mitsubishi, has become the car brand for people with crappy credit. That’s who they sell to, so major innovations and adding more power aren’t that necessary, because it’s the car of last resort after a buyer got turned down for financing at other brands’ dealerships

...along with Chevrolet and Ford and Kia and Hyundai etc... With ALLY, Capital One Auto and NFCU's of the world with 72-84 month terms, its pretty much any high volume dealers from low/mid tier manufacturers these days.
Exactly! Buyers would have to be turned down from the Toyota dealership then turned down at the Honda dealership in order to want this. Nissan is like the last option for a Japanese car.
