    I'm getting at least one GMT and I might grab one of the 9015 models. I have other watches that for aesthetic reasons choose to leave off the minute markers. I think it's a trade-off I would also make for certain dials. I'll use the bezel if synching the time is absolutely necessary. I'll just rotate the bezel and put the 5minute bezel dot between the dial 5minute markers for a better reference point.

    • @JonathanTReviews
      @JonathanTReviews  Год назад

      Thank you very much! Awesome, I hope you land the ones you're eyeing! Agreed, I prefer having the marks in usage but respect and appreciate the aesthetic improvement by leaving them off with this model. Cheers

    Well...not a huge fan of malachite dials but that's just me. But what baffles me is why the Mako has become thicker than previous iterations were in spite of using a slim Miyota movement. And why the polished section of the clasp?

    • @JonathanTReviews
      @JonathanTReviews  Год назад +2

      I could see them not being for everyone. I dig the look/feel though. The latest batch of V3 (non-GMT) maintained the same thickness but the GMT variant had to be adjusted to accommodate that complication and the 4th hand. Without the crystal, it's a ~1mm difference but with the crystal it's closer to 1.8mm. I will say, on the wrist, I can't tell much a difference until I look for it. Cheers

  • @kevinleighuk
    @kevinleighuk Год назад +2

    Great and helpful review! I love the malachite dial and green bezel combo with the yellow GMT hand. The lack of minute markers doesn’t bother me as I only glance at my watch for the rough time. If I want precision I have an iPhone or atomic clock on the wall. My watches have become more jewellery or accessory than a tool - unless I’m exercising then I where my Apple Watch! It does look thick but as you say visually it might wear thinner.
    A tip for adjusting a watch without minute markers but having a bezel is to move the bezel by the number of clicks equivalent to whatever minute offset it is past a 5-minute marker. Then align the minute hand with the 5-minute marker on the bezel. As the bezel is bi-directional you can easily straighten the bezel afterwards.
    I hope I can snag one!

    Mako is probably my favorite model from one of my favorite brands. The lack of minute markers is a significant niggle (or is it a moan) from my POV. 99% of owners use minutes but 1% uses three time zones so I don't get it (made up stats). Still, I could very well try to snag a couple of the GMTs in this release. 😁 Thanks for the review.
    (PS-I just rewatched this and have to compliment you on A+ video quality. You really showed off the beauty of this watch. Great info, as always! Yes, I ordered one of these beauties.)

      @JonathanTReviews  Год назад +1

      Definitely a fair point and I fall into the 99% too 😉 I usually set my GMT watches to function as a 24hr indicator for my local time so I really don't need a third indicator 😂 Cheers

    Great review as usual Jon! I typically advocate for female endinks nowadays, but being such a chunky watch, I think the extended L2L with the male endlinks actually make this fit better. Those colorways are 🔥

    • @JonathanTReviews
      @JonathanTReviews  Год назад

      Thank you very much! I've been waffling a bit lately on female end links. Love them for comfort/fitment but don't love the integration with some watches (example the resultant ledge on the Tusenö Shellback and Windseeker, though they're still both great watches). In the end, either male or female, how well they're incorporated can sway me either direction. I'm with you that I think the male links work well on the Mako. Cheers

The overall thickness you addressed.

    • @JonathanTReviews
      @JonathanTReviews  Год назад

      Happy I could help! I have a Green Bronze SF40 as well. Personally, I think the two models and dials are sufficiently different to easily just both (I actually have a Green Bronze Mako as well, which I should have shown in the video). I really enjoy this dial and overall model, though it's naturally always a subjective decision too. I think the Mako hands are well balanced with the dial but they certainly aren't as bold or blocky as the cathedral paddles on the Swordfish. Cheers

    The lack of minute markers bothers me.. a lot. It's just form over function and i just hate that! Never ever put form over function.... Damn... I signed up to get one but now I'm not sure. Also: 15,8mm is thicker than my friggin Helm Komodo (15,5). Yeah does that matter? Heck yeah! Because of that thickness, I've banged my Komodo against so many things! Now that Komodo is made for that, but I doubt this watch will survive that a lot... Yeah man, I'm disappointed 😞

    • @JonathanTReviews
      @JonathanTReviews  Год назад +2

      Understandable with the minute markers. Regarding the thickness though, I think you'll find it wears much thinner than the Helm. The thickness is only ~12.5mm without the crystal. The rest of the thickness is the very highly domed and box edge crystal. In my experience, including with this watch, a thick crystal and a thick case do not wear the same. The build quality is also plenty robust in my opinion. Cheers
