Well, I shocked myself by liking a NATO for pretty much the first time ever. Perhaps if there had been a proper bracelet option, I would still be a NATO virgin? Nice watch, and I am beginnign to get my head around Marloe's philosophy after 3 watches. They do things their way. You might like that, you might not, but they definitely deserve some respect for it. Cheers, Jody

Loved this so much - had never heard of Marloe before but as I type this, I have my new Marloe GMT (in pastel blue) on my wrist and I'm stoked with it. I'm in NZ, ordered it that day, and it arrived in 10 days. Got two strap options (Marloe had a deal with a free extra strap) in Nytech grey and Sand Nato. Love the channel, and thanks for the recommendation.

I like it! It is definitely a better looking watch than the "night" version and I am not usually inclined to go for the "non-standard" colours. There's a British quirkiness about their watches which I like (being a quirky Brit myself). I took a quick look at their website and the one you reviewed here is definitely my favourite.

Thanks for the review. Nice looking watch. I like the fact that they don't have text on the bottom portion of the dial and resisted the temptation to put "automatic GMT" or similar.

Nice dial color. I like the overall design. Maybe they should've added the small GMT or Automatic word at the lower sector of the dial for the balanced look, I agree with you on that. But it does look nice indeed.

Beautiful watch. I love the angled bezel serrations, very novel idea. The case kind of reminded me of my IX and DAO 5303, especially from the side view, so I therefore propose that my favorite strap for this one would likely be the milanese metal strap from the IX/DAO. I think it would look killer on it, assuming it fit.

Jody, have you tried pulling the nato further down, so the metal slip through part nearly hits the six'oclock. you then wont have the excess folded up on the side of your wrist. it is folded near the bottom of your wrist, so you dont see the excess lump when you look at the watch. that makes the nato good for me. cheers.

  • @khronokraze
    @khronokraze Год назад +7

Looks good. But, I think the main dial could have been reduced a bit and brought in so there is a little less negative open space in basically 3/4 of the main dial.
Also, that may have allowed for the angled outer 24hr hour chapter ring to be a little larger for maybe allowing a wider base to print larger more legible numbers/markings.. making it also slightly more open forward facing. Some Zelos had this problem where the chapter ring was so small and steeply angled, they were practically vertically perpendicular to the main dial so you're reading down the numbers and additionally shortening the font visual height. Only way to better read such chapter rings are at a more extreme lower angle and then you're just reading one side of it a little more clearly.
And, unless the watch style screams old school vintage, I don't particularly care for straight end link option and WAY prefer fitted end link for a matched bracelet option.

Really beautiful watch! It looks really compact for a 42mm. Is that a smudge or "bleed out" on the bezel on the 18 the 1 though?

Lovely shade of blue, and it does look great on that nato and the red leather. But…… it’s big and appears even larger (9:06, for ex). The relatively empty dial, coupled with the thin bezel makes it appear like it’s 43mm+. They nailed everything but the sizing and dial proportions :/

That is quite the beauty of a watch. I'm not too fond of Tiffany blue dials generally but this one, being more subdued, is not so garish. I must disagree about the straps though. The red-toned brown really adds some 'pop' to the overall appearance. Picks up the red of the GMT as well.

Where are these watches manufactured? The CW watches say "Swiss Made" on the dial and the logo incorporates the Swiss and English flags. Are the Marloe watches produced in Asian factories? Not necessarily a bad thing, but I'd like to know where they are made.

780.00 USD is rather steep to me. Even if it was affordable, I doubt think it will be easy to read the time or the GMT time very well as the numbers are small text. I don't have a mechanical GMT watch. I hope to get one at some point.I am hoping the movements will go down in price as they make more and more of the movements for GMT-style watches. I am hoping anyway. I have a number of Casios Gshocks that have UTC time as well as other time zones, but UTC stays the same all year and I forget if it is +5 or +4 hours of me. I am into mature radio and there is actually a couple of net meetings that are based in Australia twice a week, people from all over the world join in. They always advertise the time in UTC rather than their local time. Australia and its territories cover 8 time zones, I had no idea there were so many.

I must admit that Marloe watches don't appeal to me. But this time it is different. I really like this GMT. The color, the profile looks great and it looks original. I like how they "hid" the GMT hand applying the same color to the hand, that is on the dial. Most GMT watches have their gmt hands with an eye catching color, but not this one. Still, you can easily locate the gmt hand, thanks to the tip in different color. Definitely a plus for me 👍 Color of the dial itself is also pleasing for me. Good job Marloe designing this one! Though, the price is on the high end for this movement...

I picked up a Marloe a couple months ago after being drawn to their design language. For most of their offerings, they take "round" to the extremes. "Sure", you say, "Most watches are Round!" But look at the Taye or Coniston, and tell me those aren't rounder than anything else out there. 😄
As for the GMT, after lusting for one amid the latest frenzy, I've kind of come to the conclusion that I don't need one. Everyone I know lives within 2 time zones of me, and frankly the math isn't that difficult as a consequence. 🧐

I have a Zelos GMT Blacktip MOP and the Marloe is better made, different movement of course and the Zelos bracelet is better than what Marloe offer, however this watch definitely suits the Nytech, leather, rubber or Nato options better than a bracelet, the only negative I have is the WR, this was crying out for 100m IMHO and maybe a screw down crown, though should still be ok for the pool on hols, maybe……

More and more companies are skipping the hassle, people are picky about bracelets and it's not easy to design from the get go, there's the wrist range question then chamfering then micro-adjustment and perhaps the secured-ness. Some might just choose pre-made and change the end-link and done. Rarely see one done exactly right from microbrands.

I absolutely love it! The extra blank real estate on the dial is pretty classy in my opinion…and then I saw the price. Er….no, sorry…that’s about 40% too much for what is being offered.

Years ago there were several Marloes I quite enjoyed, but didn't jump. This one has rekindled my interest. I regret it sits at 42mm. Should one happen to land in my lap I'd give it a try, but knowing it's too big, would I postorder something for 799? Probably not, and that's a pity. I think it's great that it's a design that puts aesthetics first, and thus makes you work a little harder to make use of the GMT functionality. Most GMTs do the opposite, and I tend to find them too busy. It's a little thick, too, but then you pulled off that NATO. I'm oddly still tempted by this Marloe and hope to see more models pushing subtle alternating finishes and clean designs with their idiosyncratic design cues. I might just become a Marloe owner in the future if they do. I will keep an eye on this one. Now, you say this is a Scottish brand. Great if it is, but I always thought they were based in Oxfordshire?

Nice watch. I like the clean dial. Expensive. They will wean out a lot of collectors who just don’t have the budget. Like me! Great vid of what looks like a great but expensive brand. It will be an exclusive club! Merci.

Marloe is smart, pricing it under $800 means no duty to the US. Second strap makes the price within reason. I don't mind NATO if the watch accepts it without looking tacky, This one does. I'd pick the fabric strap as the included extra.

Color and indexes straight away remind me of Direnzo Mondial:) But yes, total combination of all elements seems to be quite unique. Nice looking watch for sure!

Jody, have you tried a Marine Nationale-style elastic strap? I dislike natos for the same reason as you (I have also slimmer wrists). But MN straps are perfect! (but I have to shorten them a bit...)

Agree, most of my watches are now on single pass MN style straps. Super comfy and and really easy to adjust 👍

5atm water resist is the biggest deal breaker for me. Not buying an $800 watch to worry about it if I wash my hands or reach into the pool by accident. Saw those 4 screws on the case back and had a feeling this would be a problem.

I quite like the design and style. From the execution of the styling on the case, to the domed sapphire. I am even one of those rare people that like all the open space on the face. I find it obnoxious when a face has all the features written on the face like its an ad-copy. I do, however, struggle with that price for a Miyota movement. I know I am paying for the execution of the design of the watch and not the movement. But to me, that is the same as paying for fashion over function and I just can't get myself to do it.
