Ayeeeeeeeeeee! I get to roll my 'r's today and play the bagpipes in the intro as I review a Scottish Stunner. Not a cheapie, but looks stunning, just don't take the dimensions as read. It wears big thanks to the flat case shape though. If you have a big wrist, go for it. If you have a smaller wrist, you might struggle, despite what it says on paper. Cheers, Jody

This is a very interesting and good looking piece. I guess having that unusual case causes it to wear a little oddly as a result though. It would have been nice been nice to see it as a 38mm I think.

Really nice 👌. One little design feature I noticed and loved is the counter balance on the hour and second hands, when at 10.10 they made a radius that matched/lined up perfectly with sub-dial. Chefs kiss to the designer.

I just bought a watch, a genuine Longines Flagship in 18k solid gold with an in-house caliber 30L that looks a lot like this. Except it’s a Longines, with the legendary observatory smashing 30L, in 18k solid gold! And it cost less, too.

This watch suffers the same issue as the Hamilton Khaki Field mechanical: too flat, so wears badly compared to its stats. If it had been 36mm with a shorter L2L it would have worked, but at 40mm it was already too big to begin with.

The 12 and 6 dial with a small seconds sort of recalls the Seamaster 1948, though that sacrifices the 6 for the small seconds and has a 3 and 9 instead. In this Marloe, the clipped 6 makes it look like the 6 is rotated to the left, and that is a real clanger for a dress watch; either don't have the 6, or make the small seconds smaller. The sides are reminiscent of the Timex Giorgio Galli S1. They look good on the Timex but out of place on this. The price tag is the final nail in the coffin. I wanted to like this but it's a hard sell.

Yes! Now this is good. I like the move away from "every watch must be a diver" thing. But in so many cases, that means a field watch, or a "kind of field-watch with a plain face so its kind of a dress watch maybe". But this is a proper dress watch, a bit of high-precision mechanical jewelry.

It's a stunning watch, but I just wish that it was smaller. With the gold tone and the vintage aesthetic, I feel like a 36 or even 38 mm would be a better fit. Especially given the way the case wears on the wrist. I definitely think that that could have been rectified by a slightly smaller, more period correct size

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Scotland, nearly 10 years ago now. I want to go back, and this time do Ireland as well. Beautiful pieces, but well outside my "ooh, that's cool" cap (~200 USD). I'd have like a watch enough to forego five or six others to pay this much, so I'll have to pass for now. That said, the $340 US Coniston white dial (manual wind Miyota 8N33) is gorgeous and "in reach" if I stretch just a bit.

  • @bagpiper

This is beautiful. What an exquisite vintage presentation. You certainly picked the best colorway as well. This is in my 'intend to buy' category. One point here - wrist measurement. Everyone talks in terms of wrist *diameter*. That works fine for people with a round wrist cross section. Mine isn't like that. If viewed in cross section my wrist is a flattened oval. Not sure if that is genetics or the accumulation of many breaks over many years. What that means is that although the circumference is under 7 inches I can wear watches with a generous lug-to-lug size and get away with it. This style case might not suit others but it is right up my alley. Now I have to figure out what to give up to afford this one. Well done review as always!

What a wonderful looking watch. Front and Back its absolutely spectacular. Lugs need a slight redesign as does the case edge design around the crown and longer strap. Too big for my scrawny wrist but if you’ve the wrist for it I think its spectacular as a design exercise. Maybe the design language has overtaken the everyday aesthetics and usability equation somewhat? Think maybe Marloe have the design thing nailed but need to product test their designs with a small group for feedback pre production? I reckon with some small adjustments and a re alignment of price for version two ($800-$1000usd) approx that watch is an absolute winner! Nice review Mr M.

    Leather/rubber watchstrap fitting.
I 've given this some thought and as (short of a lottery win) I'll never have a watch microbrand I'll share my idea.... the gap between holes on the leather strap I'm wearing today mean a choice of tight or loose (7mm between holes) so why not include one buckle strap and two hole straps with 6mm gap between holes but different hole spacing so that you can get say 3mm increments on alternate choices of strap

I think this is a great design and lovely watch to look at. I could totally go for it, but my wrists are smaller than yours and for me 40mm with 47mm lug to lug are sensible limits that only in specific instances could be tested. As you've shown and clearly argued, the case shape prohibits a best fit given those conditions. Still, I like it a lot. It's a pity they haven't thought about this a little more, as with 12mm+ height there is plenty of metal to play off in terms of shape and downturn without compromising the gull-wing side profile. 12mm+ also is really too much for a handwound movement. I love the caseback crystal, sort of justifying that choice (though could have gone with a slightly decorated option to great effect, given Stowa can do this for about the same price), but really it'll worsen that effect of the watch sitting on top of your wrist. Anyone arguing that this doesn't matter, I'd have think again. In practice I find watches that sit proud or are on the larger side, I am far more likely to knock or catch on things. To me, it really does matter, but I will allow some leeway for design creativity and diversity on my wrist. So, Marloe, please consider doing another one of these. Drop those lugs, slim the case a tad, put in the slightly decorated ETA movement, and shave off perhaps just 1-1.5mm off the diameter and you'd be onto a winner. I also think the versatility could grow with an understated application of lume, filling the thin strip on the hands and perhaps replacing the golden dots with handsome little thick knobs of circular lume, as found in vintage pieces. I'd be looking forward to such a release and find it hard resisting the purchase.

The flash was hysterical! Gorgeous watch - would have been perfect if the 6 were not clipped.

Agreed! And the crown was smaller and les industrial looking.
Tha Marloe branding is too large and we don't need the "watch company" either.
      Mk2 anyone?

I much preferred the fifty two and in black dial form would look great,I'm pretty sure your watch case started life as a casting.I also liked the intro music much better than the mummy's heartbeat of your normal intro,Northumbrian pipes I believe rather than bagpipes...............................................

I wish they had made the subdial smaller so as not to cut the 6 index. No one really uses a subdial to actually do anything on a three hander other than to confirm the watch is running and to sync the time. The overall profile seems like a slab in spite of the curvy side profile. The bead blasted side looks weird to my eye. Close, but no cigar from me.
