I know firsthand of somebody whose blood pressure dropped so low that they had to go to the hospital because they were taking a turmeric extract with bioperine at the same time is their hypertension medication. And it’s pretty obvious that, if that is the case, that there are much better options.
@@bredenis5 thanks for the expansive reply. I take 2000mg of turmeric and maybe a quarter tsp of black pepper for a running back injury, not sure if helping
@@Alex.1739 there could be a few things going on there. The first is there may not be enough piperine in the black pepper to increase the absorption of the turmeric curcuminoids. Rather than taking black pepper I would advised buying the isolated piperine extract. You can purchase bioperine online in 10 mg doses (source naturals sells pure bioperine I think) to take with your turmeric. That likely would work much better at increasing the absorption then taking whole black pepper. The other thing is what percentage curcuminoids is your turmeric? Is it a 95% extract, A lower percentage extract or just plain bulk turmeric powder, which has a low percentage of curcuminoids? I find that over 90% of people get a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect with turmeric and, for the ones who don’t, it usually comes down to either the dosage and form of turmeric. If you wanted a commercial supplement that uses a clinically efficacious dose and a form of turmeric that absorbs well, I highly recommend the Terry Naturally Curamed 750 mg. It uses the BCM-95 extract which has good studies showing very high oral bioavailability. However, it is expensive and I usually buy it from eBay because it is much cheaper on there than Amazon. If cost is an issue you could just buy a 95% extract (vitacost sells one pretty cheaply) and add 10 mg of bioperine. I don’t want to overstate the dangers of using bioperine, I just think there are other options that don’t have its liabilities but those other options are definitely more expensive.
