I would like to share: I am an avid Walker and do 5-7 miles each day. About a month ago I started to get some stiffness in my right knee. I had heard about tumeric over the years but had never used it other than adding it to a curry. At this point I decided to take tumeric. I used the ground powder from the supermarket and every morning put one teaspoon into warm ginger water. Let me explain that I love fresh ginger so each day I slice and boil some which I drink throughout the day. First thing in the morning I combine my warm ( not hot)ginger water with one teaspoon of tumeric. ( about 6-8 ounces of liquid in total) I then eat my breakfast. It has been one month and the stiffness has gone and I can continue my walking without any discomfort. By the way I am pushing 75 and feel amazing.

@phillipsamway5562 I dont have to take my curumin with pepper/perine! Pepper only slows down the organs so the tuermuc can be absorbed. That's not good. I take a pure curcumin product( the active ingredient) but with the added benefit of ginger, vitamin d3 and vitamin c in a liquid form, new technology, that I only need 10 drops a day, and it mixes so well into water, or drops straight into my mouth. A few drops to "cure " a migraine. I don't have to take it with oily food either! It overcomes the lipid barrier

I have just turned 69 years old and during the summer I took a ride on my bike. I live in a hilly area so i had to push myself a little but i took my time. After about 1/8 mile i felt winded so i stopped. The next day my right knee felt a little sore and it got worse over the next several days. The usual painkillers were in effective, so i had to limp around for a few weeks hoping my knee would improve. It didn't. And it was worse at night.I did some online research where i discovered the benefits of Turmeric curcumin. I bought some in capsules at a local pharmacy store over the counter and started taking two caps a day. I didn't notice any difference in the first week. I was still limping but didn't give up. In the second week i noticed the pain subsided a little. the third week was even more improvement and the pain was half of what it was the previous week. By the third week most of the pain was gone. The fourth week had no pain. Weeks later i kept up the regiman and do not notice any pain at all. With the benefits i learned here i am staying turmeric as a permanent regiman. life is good again. I am not ready to start acting like an old man yet.
Also, Turmeric with anti-depressants helps better than either on their own. I usually take 2T of fresh root with 4T ginger root, 1 lemon’s juice, 1t black pepper and blended with water. Sometimes I’ll add my “liquid sunshine” vitamin D and MCT oil. supplement too. It helps with depression but I’m gonna try it consistently for a1c. Integration is so important.

I take my turmeric with bulletproof coffee. I read somewhere that not only the turmeric needs to be combined with pepper and oil. It should also be heated. So I make bulletproof coffee with a teaspoon turmeric powder, a dash of black pepper, a couple of tablespoons of good oil like MCT oil, pour in the hot coffee and blend it and viola: bulletproof coffee with turmeric. And this coffee replaces my breakfast, I break my fast during lunch, extending my fast for another 4 hours making it around 16-17 hours in total.

I often make a soup containing turmeric. I started adding a few peppercorns to it. My blood sugar really dropped to a normal or below normal range. It seems to work without the tumeric, but not quite as well. My hypothesis is that the piperene increases the bioavailability of metformin. There is even a study that shows this in diabetic mice.
In India, it was traditionally used for disorders of the skin, upper respiratory tract, joints, and digestive system. Today, turmeric is promoted as a dietary supplement for a variety of conditions, including arthritis, digestive disorders, respiratory infections, allergies, liver disease, depression, and many others.
Without curcuma would have much more illness there.. Always hot, bacterial etc materials growing fast in those conditions and no maybe clean, health promoting water available

Can you talk about just taking turmeric as a powder? I get it from the spice aisle and put about half a table spoon in my tea. It helps a ton with my lupus, but I'd love to hear about studies on taking the actual whole powder
Indonesia has not only *regular turmeric* , but also *white turmeric* and *black turmeric* . Regular turmeric _(curcuma domestica)_ is used for cooking Indonesian food and for making _jamu_ or Indonesian herbal medicine to maintain good physical health. White turmeric is not as popular as regular turmeric. It is usually used for cancer treatment here. There are three kinds of white turmeric known here on the island of Java: _curcuma zedoaria, curcuma mangga_ and _kaempferia rotunda_ . The black turmeric _(curcuma aeruginosa)_ is not popular, either. It is used to rid the body of threadworm infections. These three kinds of turmeric are sold in traditional markets throughout Indonesia. To buy white turmeric and black turmeric, however, people need to order first. The herbal ingredient seller needs time to get those roots because they are not popular.
@@LeonidKimMD If you have time, do visit Indonesia, Doctor Kim. My country is the store of medicine plants. Turmeric is just one of the medicine roots found here. We have red ginger, moringa, noni fruit and many other herbals.

This is how I use it : I placed a tea spoon full of turmeric in the glass, add a tea spoon of black paper and a table spoon full of olive oil and mixed it with small water to drink, cause it's the turmeric powered. I am getting some results but I need your advise.
The turmeric that I have has been infused into sauerkraut. I've adopted a different diet of mainly fish, soya yoghurt, berries, some beans and sprouts, homemade mayo, tempeh and eggs with many different types of fermented vegetables. Knocked out dairy and wheat. After a few weeks, I'm beginning to see benefits in both rheumatics and weight. So far, it seems to be suiting me. I've had a lot of damage through decades of stress and I found out recently that I have Asperger's Syndrome - inherently an intensifier of anxiety that I had no idea of the influence upon my stress symptoms over decades! I am now 61. I'm keeping my hopes at ground level, especially after so long a battle.
Thank you for this information. I was been taking turmeric capsules but recently began making a warm turmeric milk with black pepper and butter at bedtime. However, I'm not real sure which turmeric is best. Should I use the one in the spice section for $4.00 per 16oz. bottle or the organic powder in the health and beauty section for $30.00 a bottle? Again, thank you for your help.
Good morning doctor. Some people recommend taking turmeric tea at night while some says it's better to take them on an empty stomach in the morning after waking up. Which is the correct time to drink the turmeric tea? Thank you.
Soooo. I buy fresh tumeric root in the produce section and fresh ginger root. Place in smoothie blender with water , just enough to cover the roots. About 1 inch of each root, probably 4 ounces water. Add black pepper. Blend, strain. I call these tumeric shots. I freze the strained pulp and use in my chicken stock. This has helped my seasonal allergies and my achy joints! Also, helps speed up muscle recovery from workouts. I add lemon juice and pink himalayan salt after blending. Stir and enjoy!
Love this! Thanks for making these videos. Would definitely like more videos on scientific based evidence for different supplements. I’m just starting to see a naturopath and though I am open to trying different supplements I’m also skeptical as there has not been enough medical research on a lot of them. I also hear that’s been changing so it’s really helpful knowing what some of the more recent studies are showing. I would love to see a video on cordyceps if you have any information on that one.
First time watching this doctor and very impressed with your knowledge and the way you give us all the information. Keep up the awesome videos.... God Bless you
My doctor put me on it 3 years ago for arthritis, it took about 3 months for it to take effect..and lord it really makes a difference..highly recommend it. Believe it or not it is in a lot of common foods that we already eat..😊
As far as to why take it if it's already there?well as most folks,we don't always eat a regular diet like we should..sometimes our bodies need a little more and sometimes what we eat doesn't absorb the right amount. Example:calcium supplements or natural, the body will not absorb it without enough vitamin D..everyone's body chemistry is not the same.other wise we wouldn't need so many different things or medicine for the same reasons. Our bodies are such a mysterious machine..lol.I don't completely understand how it works, I just know that several physicians suggested it, and I gave it a whirl, and for me and a few others agree that it does work for me..but please feel free to do some research and discuss it with your physician..I just wanted to share my experience and I don't prefer pharmaceutical meds if any way possible..
This is so awesome. Very well produced video with clear audio. So I would like to know of cooking with turmeric in any way reduced or degrades it's nutrient capacity? I use turmeric when cooking chicken in my instant pot. I am also a lover of black pepper, which, after listening here, appears to be an accidental benefit. Thank you for this awesome and informative video.

This video was really informative! Even natural ingredients are not always useful and act unambiguously. It's nice to see people sharing practical advice.
Dr. Kim, It would be really good for you to elaborate on the, "You have to be careful " lines. Interactions with blood thinners which can have a synergistic or potentiation effect need guidelines for patients about dosages and activity restrictions, if any. How much of an increased bleeding risk is a patient faced with when cur cumin and plavix or Aspirin or NSAIDS are combined? What exactly do you mean by, "You have to be careful..." what should a patient do differently in order to be careful regarding drug and cur cumin interactions?
i started taking integrative therapeutics theracurminHP in 2017 due to low back arthritis pain out of desperation and was highly skeptical. the back pain was disabling and was taking nsaids daily and capping the night of with alcohol just to get to sleep, which wasn't ideal obviously. sure enough after a couple of months of taking theracurmin it dawned on me that i hadn't needed the heating or massage pad like i did daily. eventually all joint pain ceased and i've never stopped taking it to this day. i did notice other odd things, in a good way, in taking theracurmin such as faster workout recovery and odd strength after doing a workout to failure. moreover, i'll be doing a bench press or pushups and as i get to failure my arms will shake and tremble, but the strength remains and i can keep going...tough to explain. i do recommend curcumin for joint pain as i didn't believe the hype initially and was very skeptical but sure enough...it's done wonders for me.
Thanks so much Dr. Kim, very educational, I was waiting to hear about benefits or the lack of it for taking fresh turmeric roots (or the side effects) , recently I have heard some study mentioning about turmeric taking in high dosage causing liver injury, would love to hear your thought on that.
Dr. Kim, you mentioned kidney stones as an example of contraindication with curcumin. Does that relate to a history of kidney stones (which I have) , or an acute case of it?
Are those people consuming turmeric everyday? Are they consuming enough? And what other bad things are they eating that will counteract the benefits from the little turmeric they happen to be eating "casually", less frequently rather than daily supplementation.
I have been recently diagnosed with IBS, and have turned to tumeric and its has helped alot, I make sure to add tumeric and black pepper to at least two meals a day.
I had IBS a few years ago, I was prescribed mebeverine which helped but when I stopped Mebeverine IBS came back, I started taking turmeric and black pepper tablet once per day then soon realised it was helping with IBS, I then stopped Mebeverine, after about 3 months I stopped taking turmeric tablets and realised my IBS had totally gone away, I think turmeric cured my IBS, I've been free of IBS for at least 15 years.
This channel reminds me of wade Davis' talk " Why ancient wisdom is needed in the mordern world " . Good stuff ..❤❤❤❤❤ . Nutrition is better than prescription but all have their place & time .
Apart from industrially processed curcumin supplements, it would have been useful to look at studies (if any) of the use of freshly squeezed tumeric juice. Personally, I put fresh tumeric root in a food processor and extract a concentrated juice that I dilute with water and a squeeze of lime/lemon. Any comments Dr Kim?
Your clear information with the studies to back it up really helps people to look at the topic. Thank you so much for the detail and making it simple to anyone 😊
Thanks Dr Kim! A great review of the latest evidence. You covered turmeric supplements well also. What about simply drinking the over the counter turmeric spice in warm water with a pinch of black pepper? Wouldn't that be far less expensive and as equally efficacious as the supplements? While my A1C, fasting glucose, blood pressure, and lipid profile are within the reference ranges, the numbers are all on the higher side of unfavourability and I want to make them better. If you agree, what dosage do you suggest? And, yes I will take it with a fatty meal as you suggest.
I use a heaping teaspoon from a organic spice brand along with Pepperdine from similar source.. It's much less expensive, but not sure is it's a good way to absorb and/or measure.
@Sean, some folks may not have the patience to prepare the tea which is far cheaper. I used to prepare my tea with black pepper, adding a quater teaspoon of virgin coconut oil. The benefits were unbelievable

I dont have to take my curumin with pepper/perine!
My love for turmeric is frm my childhood as im an indian,,we use daily in recipes but taking raw turmeric paste with black pepper powder helps a lot in different problems,,im taking this combo since 6 yrs nw,, miracle for everyone
Extremely thoughtful and well done. Curcumin is growing in popularity and having an informed medical review such as Dr. Kim provides is helpful to many.
I began to have my sugar in the mornings very high, and one day I include the turmeric root in my lunch & dinner salad, next morning my blood sugar was below 100, so I stopped to see if this one was the magic thing, and I repeat the recipe and voila! It did it again. I am so happy.
Did you sprinkle the tumeric powder over your food ?
@@BUMBLEBEE246-v7u no, I grated the root.
Dr. Kim:
This was a top notch review of the benefits & side effects of tumeric. Your photo background, & audio enunciation was easy to listen to and digest. I'm on board for more of these! - Jim Eastep, DVM Diplomate Vet Path (ACVP).
I concur
I tried everything. For my stomach. And one day I got this idea to use turmeric powder in some capsules . All a sudden my heart burn went away . And my gut pain on the right lower side of my bowls went away.
It’s very strange.
And I feel better
I see this is a relatively new channel with a wealth of information. Please keep posting and thanks for your time and effort.
thank you for your kind words
I mix 1 tsp of organic ground turmeric with hot steel cut oatmeal, melted butter, walnuts, blueberries, cinnamon, raw honey, pepper and grass fed yogurt for breakfast 4 days a week. Delicious and satisfying. The other three days, I add turmeric to my eggs with black pepper.
What brand of the curcumin are you taking?
Also,
Turmeric with anti-depressants helps better than either on their own.
I am taking Saffron and Turmeric, one of them seems to be giving me a positive energetic boost within 30 mins of taking, not sure which one, have you noticed anything like this from Turmeric?
Doctor Kim your instruction on turmeric/curcumin is very professional and knowledgeable. Thank you so much.
Great tone and delivery.
As a caregiver for my wife who is battling cancer. I would like to know how a cancer patient would take and benefit from this for aggressive metastatic ovarian cancer. Thank you for all the information you are sharing.
How’s it going now 2 months later?

@joshuadavis: turmeric kills cancer stem cells, that's what chemo can't do, and no horrible side effects
Look into soursop tea, black seed oil, and mullein tea. I’ve heard really good things about these for cancer.
Thank you for making a very fact based, concise and professional video!
I have severe arthritis and gout. Started taking Tumeric 500 mg gummies twice in evening and viatmin D3. It’s a miracle Gout stopped. Took three days only. . No pain and I feel amazing. Truly hope others can find a cure. Qunol gummies 500 mg and vitamin D3. This was suggested to me by my personal doctor.
How about Qunol Extra Strength (Ultra High Absorption)Turmeric Curcumin Complex 1000 mg?
Thank you for this information! I started taking turmeric about a month ago for osteoarthritis pain. I take Garden of Life brand. My knees were almost pain free within days! I started taking it on my own, but when I told my orthopedic doctor I was taking it, he said, "Yes! That's the good stuff! Keep taking it!" 🙂
Thanks to your video, I see I could improve the way I take my turmeric supplement. I don't think I'm taking it with enough fat, so I will fix that. I am very interested in all of the other benefits that might come from taking turmeric, so I will watch for more of your videos on this subject! I would also be interested in knowing if turmeric can be taken on-goingly (long term).
How much do you take daily?
So glad to have come across such a useful evidence based video covering benefits of turmeric. Can you please also cover the effects of turmeric / curcumin on cancer ? Will it reduce cancer in already suffering patients - shrink lesions/tumors?
Thank you for this video - I have PCOS and arthritis and I will be starting this asap. My Aunt is 93 and takes this all the time. She still lives on her, does yoga and line dancing!

Any results from taking turmeric?
Congratulations on 1 year anniversary on your channel Dr.
Anyway....in India a lot of diseases and cancer
Without curcuma would have much more illness there.. Always hot, bacterial etc materials growing fast in those conditions and no maybe clean, health promoting water available

Can you talk about just taking turmeric as a powder? I get it from the spice aisle and put about half a table spoon in my tea. It helps a ton with my lupus, but I'd love to hear about studies on taking the actual whole powder
Doctor could you also do a report on Boswellia (Frankensence) for inflamation. I am hearing good things about it.
The herbal ingredient seller needs time to get those roots because they are not popular.
that’s amazing! thank you for sharing!
@@LeonidKimMD If you have time, do visit Indonesia, Doctor Kim. My country is the store of medicine plants. Turmeric is just one of the medicine roots found here. We have red ginger, moringa, noni fruit and many other herbals.

Is threadworm another term for tapeworm?
Thank you. I did not know there were different turmerics. My husband was just diagnosed with rectal cancer, and I am looking at alternatives to help.
Can you kindly review the study done by UCLA on the benefits of Turmeric on cognitive disease. Thank you 🙏🏽
Hi doctor, pls cover the cancer benefits. You're a smart guy. Thanks for your service.
I live in Africa in Liberia west Africa I read about turmeric effort against high blood sugar and I decided to try it since I am a diabetic. This is how I use it : I placed a tea spoon full of turmeric in the glass, add a tea spoon of black paper and a table spoon full of olive oil and mixed it with small water to drink, cause it's the turmeric powered. I am getting some results but I need your advise.
Can you talk about how turmeric affects kidney, kidney stones, and Gall bladder?
I second this
I just read somewhere that turmeric isn’t recommended to people with gallbladder disease because it may cause the gallbladder to contract.
The Gall bladder is not a significant DETRIMENTAL organ...I think the Turmeric benefits outweigh the cons decide for yourself
That is a precious piece of advice on numeric consumption. Thank you, doctor!
The best way to take it is to add turmeric to your curry. The spices like cumin, coriander, pepper and ginger in the curry helps it to absorb more.
Thank you. You speak well. Easy to understand.
I can listen to dr. Kim for hours 👏🏼
Good morning doctor. Some people recommend taking turmeric tea at night while some says it's better to take them on an empty stomach in the morning after waking up. Which is the correct time to drink the turmeric tea? Thank you.

Being an indian i use turmeric in all my currys, soups etc recipes. It really eureka well in managing diabetis, fatty liver, anti inflamation.
Very informative, very well presented
Love what you're doing with this channel. Thanks!
Hey doctor please review shilajeet too. Like ashwagandha it is used in india too and improves quality of life too
First time watching this doctor and very impressed with your knowledge and the way you give us all the information. Keep up the awesome videos.... God Bless you
My doctor put me on it 3 years ago for arthritis, it took about 3 months for it to take effect..and lord it really makes a difference..highly recommend it. Believe it or not it is in a lot of common foods that we already eat..😊
If it's already in the majority of food we already eat, why are the ailments there? (Curious to know)
May I ask what kind of supplement you take (took)it ? do you do your own mixture ?
I have been using turmeric for 6 years now it has changed my life. ❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂❤❤❤ so grateful for the wisdom shared Thanh you Dr i appreciate you

Very helpful video but can you talk about how much pepper (peperine) is needed to assist absorption and the various amounts of tumeric or curcumin needed to obtain benefits. I love your channel!
I take it every evening. The powder form. 1/2 tsp turmeric with 1/4 tsp black pepper, 1/2 tsp of powdered ginger and mix it all together with 2 oz of virgin olive oil. I swear it’s addicting
I add Ceylon cinnamon to mine as well
Have you ever used tumeric oil?

As per AYURVED, the ancient scientific text about health from India/Bharat, the turmeric has many positive effects on health
This is so informative. Thank you
That's what I was thinking too, I'm on Warfarin.
I took turmeric milk every night before bed. Helped me sleep better. Thank you for sharing your video. God bless you. 🙏🙏🙏🙏👍🏻
What are good natural remedies and diet for combined polycystic kidney (Stage 3b) and polycystic liver diseases?
I need to know how this helps ulcerative colitis thankyou for this information
i started taking integrative therapeutics theracurminHP in 2017 due to low back arthritis pain out of desperation and was highly skeptical. the back pain was disabling and was taking nsaids daily and capping the night of with alcohol just to get to sleep, which wasn't ideal obviously. sure enough after a couple of months of taking theracurmin it dawned on me that i hadn't needed the heating or massage pad like i did daily. eventually all joint pain ceased and i've never stopped taking it to this day. i did notice other odd things, in a good way, in taking theracurmin such as faster workout recovery and odd strength after doing a workout to failure. moreover, i'll be doing a bench press or pushups and as i get to failure my arms will shake and tremble, but the strength remains and i can keep going...tough to explain. i do recommend curcumin for joint pain as i didn't believe the hype initially and was very skeptical but sure enough...it's done wonders for me.

Thanks so much Dr. Kim, very educational, I was waiting to hear about benefits or the lack of it for taking fresh turmeric roots (or the side effects) , recently I have heard some study mentioning about turmeric taking in high dosage causing liver injury, would love to hear your thought on that.

Yikes, that sounds nasty, and I love curries.
