  • Surf fishing at North Topsail Beach is difficult but with patience, it can be very rewarding! Using fresh shrimp and a pompano rig, I was able to catch multiple surf species including pinfish, pigfish, whiting, and a puffer fish! Fishing was pretty slow for most anglers and I was not the exception but with a few tricks up my sleeve and the proper bait, I will still able to make the most out of my trips! Most of my surf fishing was done around the New River Inlet with the actually inlet providing the most bites. I hope y'all enjoy this video and are able to gain some knowledge from the video that will help you in your future adventures!

That's where I grew up. Been in Virginia since 1979. Bertha and Fran wiped Topsail out in 1996, but they recovered. Glad you had a nice visit. Fish are right at your feet. That first one is a pinfish. Bait stealers, not edible. September is for pompano in the surf, sometimes spot and croaker. Sea mullet (whiting) are tasty. Tide plays a big role in saltwater fishing.

That’s awesome! I kept asking Hannah if she wanted to move there when we saw a house for sale😂 such a beautiful area! I definitely wanna go back in the future either in the late part of September or early October. Water was still a tad bit warm and no one was seeing schools of fish like we were hoping for. But a very informative trip for me! Thanks for watching!

If you can get on a mess of those puffers, mighty good eating, nice loin along dorsal area

Whattttt????? No way! It’s a tough beast to tackle but I’m slowly finding my way. Should’ve probably booked a charter off shore but maybe that’ll be for a future trip. Thanks for watching Cody!

Absolutely gorgeous view. I felt like I was there at the ocean’s edge! What a neat thing to go fishing in the ocean. It seemed like the ocean fish are more wiggly when caught, than river or stream caught fish. You caught quite a few! Very enjoyable video!

Thank you! Those early mornings on the beach are absolutely spectacular! I noticed that too, they definitely fight a lot harder than the fish I’m used to! Thanks for watching!
