  • Red Drum season is in full force along the NC coast. Strong winds can be your worst enemy or your best friend. Today's forecast Temp - 63, Wind - North 15 Gust 34. The East to West beaches here in NC provide perfect wind protection for North winds and can be very productive in the spring and fall. Get out there and be somebody!

    We used to own 1010 S.Shore Dr.surf city. Seen & done some amazing things down there. Quit a job in 1997 the fishing was so good. Stayed mid October-late November. Me & my brother were living off of the ocean.with 3 dogs. Flounder were big & plentiful. 63degrees in the surf was the magic #. Went back later for trout. Killer fishing. When the mullet started thinning out,mad a big bait tank out of a blue barrel & a big airraiter .kept live shrimp & all sorts of stuff we netted. Some sand fleas too if I remember correctly. My brother kept a journal for years with wind,tide,moon time ,temperatures ect. Saw some patterns but honestly it didn’t matter…We were going to be fishing hard all day every day. We mostly fished 1 rod apiece & covered a lot of beach & both inlets & a few other spots on the back side. He was hard core late in the year on the trout. Night fishing,rain,whatever. January & February even. I was to tinder for such conditions back then. He had better clothes than me too. He still keeps up with some of the local old timers on FB. Thx for the video. Nothing more fun & relaxing in my book. MAY YOU NEVER GET THE CURSE OF THE LIZARD FISH!!Take care.

    Fished this spot on 10/15 and didn't catch a single fish. Not even a single bite. Talked to fisherman up and down the beach and no one caught anything. Oh well... fishing should just now start getting good as it gets colder. Will have to try again next weekend. Cool video guys!

    Are you near Emerald Isle? Also, what rig are you using?

    • @offkilterfishing
      @offkilterfishing  Год назад +2

      Rig: barrel swivel, attach 12" of 50 pound mono, bead, fish finder with tongue weight (2 or 3 ounce), bead, barrel swivel, attach 12" 50 pound mono leader and 5/0 circle hook. Mono, tongue weight and hook size adjusted to surf conditions and species sought. Emerald Isle is an awesome place.

    What's your rod/reel setup for surf fishing?

    • @Coastaljoefishing
      @Coastaljoefishing Год назад +2

      The smaller rods where 7ft medium heavy 8-17 with 4000 class spinning reels and 20-30lb braid, and the larger setups were 10ft 15-40lb setups with 6000 class spinning reels and 40-50 lb braid

    May I ask, what kind of bait you guys used?

    • @offkilterfishing
      @offkilterfishing  Год назад +1

      We had fresh finger mullets, frozen salted finger mullets, fresh menhaden and fresh shrimp. The shrimp was mostly getting eaten by pinfish and spots until that bull drum. Red drum are not picky eaters.

    • @offkilterfishing

      I cast on either side of the first sandbar depending on tide. I prefer to be inside of the bar in the trough. Most people cast over the fish.
