These NATIVE BROOK Trout Couldn’t Resist the DRY FLIES!!
In this video, I headed back to the same mountain stream where the most recent episode of CatchingLimits was filmed but this time, I had dry flies in hand! In the first hole on my second cast, I had an aggressive little brook SMOKE the topwater fly but unfortunately missed him. This was not the case for the entire morning though as I landed the majority of the strikes and found a bunch of trout! This particular fly used for the duration of this video is the Royal Coachman despite my inability to remember the name during the actual filming process. I cannot wait to continue fishing these streams and using different variations of flies! If y'all enjoyed this video, considering leaving a Lik...

I Found the MOST Gorgeous Creek and it's LOADED With NATIVE TROUT!!
Просмотров 84221 день назад
On today's episode, we ventured to unknown waters in search of giant native brooks. I found this particular creek deep within the National Forest of Virginia and decided it looked like the perfect place for native brook trout! After a short drive, I noticed the fishing/human traffic seemed minimal and quickly realized I had found a gold mine! After a short walk and only a couple hours, I put a ...
Summertime NATIVE TROUT Fishing in the Virginia Mountains!! (2024)
Просмотров 210Месяц назад
With this slightly improved weather, I took a trip to the Virginia Mountains in search of Virginia's state fish, the native brook trout. The brook trout is the only native trout that can be found in Virginia waters and fortunately for me, I have several streams relatively closeby that hold these beautiful creatures. With my flyrod in tow, I started searching the creek and quickly found some of ...
Late Spring CRAPPIE FISHING on Smith Mountain Lake!! (This Dock Was LOADED!!)
Просмотров 2702 месяца назад
Dad and I hit Smith Mountain Lake on Memorial Day weekend for some late spring crappie fishing! We headed to a dock where I have had success in the past and, using Bobby Garland baby shad, we proceeded to slay the crappie! After a quick slayfest, we got run off by a hard rain shower so we called it quits. However, we put a nice mess of fillets in the fridge which made for a spectacular supper! ...
Trout Fishing with a FLY ROD and My Own HAND-TIED JIGS!
Просмотров 1894 месяца назад
In today's episode, I traveled to the mountains of Virginia with my flyrod in hand to search for some holdover stocked trout. I had my work cut out for me: this was the first time attempting to catch stocked trout with a flyrod, using my own hand-tied jigs, and fishing for trout that were stocked 2 weeks earlier. It took quite some time and a lot of water covered but I managed to hook a lot of ...

Those little natives are live wires ❤😊
Yes sir they are!
Beautiful Fish Bud 👍👍
@@lonniekiser3612 thanks buddy!
that’s a rare sub species of rainbow trout - redband trout they get to like 6in-7in
awesome video man what a hidden gem can’t believe more people haven’t seen your vids🤘
@@TamableMuffin82 thanks dude! Definitely blessed to have a creek like this so close to home! I appreciate the support!
Great pace, nice water and top fishing trip, great video, thumbs up and greetings from Kiwiland,, Tony.
@@waikarimoana thanks Mr. Tony! I always appreciate you watching my videos! Especially from across the pond!
some very pretty trout you caught back in the little stream, you are getting better with the fly rod every time you go, keep the videos coming
@@robertcox815 thanks Mr. Robert! I definitely feel like my casting and hook sets are greatly improving. Excited to get back on the stockers and get some real fights!
What are those ? They look like baby Atlantic salmon
These are native brook trout, the state fish of Va. They can be found in most mountain streams in the higher elevations where water temps stay cool throughout the summer. They are in the same family as the trout/char that can be found in the northern part of the U.S.
@CatchingLimits oh now I see it I've caught many in upstate NY, but they're vividly colored here olive body with bright redorange fins and purple polka dots
@@ericschulze5641 these will get to be that color once the fall/cooler weather comes and the fish begin breeding. Right now, air temp is still 80 degrees but they should start getting colored soon. Thanks for watching!
Grow up and find some fish actually worth catching
@@finally1811 sure! What kind of fish would you like to see? I thoroughly enjoy fishing for these fish (especially considering I don’t have many options during the hot summer months in Va…) but I recognize my viewers have preferences too! I’d love to get some feedback!
@@CatchingLimits Don't listen to this idiot, catching wild Brook trout is some of luckiest things and angler can do. These fish are a national treasure and almost completely gone in wild native populations. I live in Maine and am privileged to be able to catch these fish. people have lost the respect for the raritiy and beauty of north American trout. Fuck size chasers.
That is a pin fish
@@RalstonStephenson thanks! I’m fairly new to the surf fishing game and it shocked me how many species were caught! Thanks for watching!
Isn't it cool how they can be in a spot with practically no water but just the right area. You learn to read the water and you just slay them. Also how many you lose vs how many get hooked. They are like little bolts of lightning hitting a bait.
@@tonylwright it absolutely is! It’s unreal the little pools and riffles that even a nicer sized brook will be sitting in! I’ve really become addicted to the dry flies. Seeing them fly across the creek and slam the surface is exhilarating! Even if they are only 6” long!
@@CatchingLimits try the upper end of Roaring Run from the parking lot to the big falls.
@@tonylwright it will definitely be on my list to fish. Might even try that one next!
Decent water for this drought! What county is this? Wondering it is down south and west?
Yes sir! This was filmed in Amherst County about 1.5 weeks ago. Wonder what it looks like now without much rain in the past 8-9 days
I fishing and cascades and had on an egg sucking leech pattern and missed strikes like 10 times in riffle on a plunge pool. I was setting hook to early on the rise.
@@robgilbert4556 I definitely think I was jumping the gun on a lot of fish. The next video will be with dry flies and it was much easier to identify takes which led to my hookup ratio being much greater!
Good to have ya back
@@robgilbert4556 it’s great to be back! Thanks for watching!
@@CatchingLimits i undertsand prolly busier now
Saw that bigger one run on first release
From start to finish, a great video, from the music, to the demonstrations. The creek which rolled over rocks and turns, creating little waterfalls, was picturesque. The trout were quite pretty and colorful. Thank you for sharing! Great! 🎣
great video, love watching you find trout in new water and wild one too, you are doing good with the fly rod, keep them coming
@@robertcox815 thanks!! It has been so much fun searching new waters and have been rewarded with the most pristine scenery! Hopefully I’ll be able to continue doing these weekly videos!
The creek feeding Paint Bank hatchery is a good place for brookies. Please be kind to them
I appreciate the advice and will check it out sometime! Definitely will be careful with them! Thanks for watching!
Native Virginian here. I know the creek ❤
It’s a gorgeous place! But the brush surrounding the creek is like a jungle! Always worried I’m gonna step on a “nope rope”😂
The waters were absolutely gorgeous. So clear. It was very enjoyable to watch this. Very relaxing and medicinal to watch you fish on the pristine waters of this streams with beautiful waterfalls.
This is likely one of the prettiest places I’ve ever fished but the creek in the next video to be posted is even prettier!
Hit in in the fall when they get there spawning colors thats my favorite
Absolutely! I’ll most definitely be up there again. Hoping to hit some other creeks as well in search of some larger fish
Agressive little devils aren't they! Looks like a good place for one of those Tenkara rods. Interesting video "thumbnail".
Yes sir they are! Anything within 3-5 feet and they are devouring it! I would imagine so! Thanks!
glad to see to post again, very pretty water , looked like a lot of fun fishing it, i can't wait till creek stocking starts in oct, hope for a good year
It definitely feels good to be back and making more content!! Especially when it’s not an hour or more drive to get to the creek! I’m excited too! Tho I’m not sure how much fishing I’ll be able to do… expecting a little boy on Thanksgiving day!
Very clear beautiful waters in a more narrow stream. Large fish in the net! Quite colorful! Very nice! 🎣
@@AliceLytle thanks mama J! This place is my favorite place to fish. Tons of water and plenty of room to get away from the crowds!
CatchingLimits, nice content dude
@@JetLagRecords thanks brother!
I love sea turtles! How neat!
It was definitely a cool encounter!
I recognize that hand movement on that fishing rod everyone… Gotta be the dude who does NRV baits!
I’ll take that as a compliment! But he would likely outfish me with a blindfold😂😂 thanks for watching!
How cool you got to see that! Pretty special ❤
@@birdlady2725 I sure thought so! Made not catching anything and sitting in 30+ winds manageable!

Nice looking crappie! You should make a "Catch N Cook" video.
@@justrelaxandfish thanks! I definitely plan to make a couple in the upcoming months! Just gotta find the time to get out on the water to catch some more! Thanks for watching!
Carter, I have a question, what do you enjoy most? Crappie fishing or trout fishing?
I enjoy crappie fishing more. It can be very frustrating but they are so much fun to catch and eat. It’s difficult because I don’t always have access to a boat to chase the crappie tho. Whereas I can drive anywhere to fish for trout
slab happy
great times with father and son

My most recent video showed the growing pains of learning the fly rod actually! I’ve definitely fallen in love with it and hope to use it a lot in future videos! Thanks for watching!!
What a Slab! Good stuff man.
Thanks man!
hello Catching Limits, does Va have fly fishing streams ? when does trout season start and how much is a out of state lic. cost, sorry I'am asking ??, Iam from NJ, and I also fly fish TN, NC , thank you good fishing Dale
Hi Dale, thanks for reaching out! Va doesn’t have any streams that are specifically designated for fly rod only but we have over 200 stocked streams and numerous native/wild streams where fly fishing can be done! The stocked season runs from October 1st through May 31st but they don’t really start stocking well until April 1st. I believe a non resident trout license is the same as a resident license so $23. It will cost a bit for the freshwater license too tho. $47 for a year or $21 for a 10 day license. Good luck if you make it down here!
Those crappie were feeding up for the winter! They were liking that marabou jig!
Yes sir! We got a bit of a warm front that lasted for 2 weeks and by the end of it, the crappie were schooled up and chewing!
Going trout fishing in Gatlinburg on Wednesday watched ur video and had to sub
Good luck on your adventure and I appreciate the support! If you have any questions, let me know. There are so many awesome holes all through the stretch that I was fishing.
Great vid , I fished cascades one time and was casting a riffle and an egg sucking leech pattern and had 9 rises and takes and whiffed on every one. Set hook to early. I feel your pain. There’s a u tuber called mainly flies and he makes and shows how to on some awesome flies. If interested
Thanks Mr. Rob! Hahah yes! That’s exactly how it felt during this trip. Just couldn’t keep the hook pegged. Oh well, always next time. And thanks for the recommendation! I’ll definitely check them out!
@@CatchingLimits still have time for fishing or the big event not yet ?
Beautiful water, nice spots and a few beauties in the net too, tight lines, thanks, thumbs up and greetings from NZ,, Tony.
Thanks Mr. Tony! Definitely a fun trip! Someday I’ll get overseas and fish for the beauties that run wild in y’all’s rivers and streams!

looks like you had alot of fun, have you caught any tiger trout ? i got some tiger trout in crooked creek a couple weeks ago
Yes sir it was a blast! I have caught a couple tigers this year. Not many, only 2-3. Didn’t get to fish much when they started stocking them this spring. But I did catch a gorgeous tiger in late April! I need to make it to crooked soon
They've always put nice brookies in north creek congrats
Yes they do! Always try to hit it the morning after when I get the chance
