Been coming to Topsail annual for the past 6 years and in just that short time we have been surprised at how popular it has gotten. Super quiet, laid back, and not a lot to do except relax on the beach. I love it. That are a few solid places to eat as well even though they are also crowded.

It is not an isolated community as the commentary may imply. Yes - it is beautiful but the secret is out. There is non stop building from the North tip to the South tip. It is over crowded in the Spring and Summer months. The best time to visit is October when the weather is still in the low 80's but the traffic and beaches are not crowded. I am commenting now on 10/5/23 while vacationing for a week in a condo right on the beach. The sunsets and sun rises are superb.

If only we could build a dome around topsail island and keep the tourists away lol, so much more relaxing to be around town in the winter

I remember it was 1987. There was one grocery. One gas station. And we came
Down here to relax. It’s so hard to find the peace now unless it’s the dead middle of winter. Pick up your trash!!!

Its not hidden now! Traffic is a nightmare in the summer!

We avoid TI/Hampstead like the plague during the summer. We got trapped in traffic for over 3 hours due to a wreck on the north bridge leaving the south bridge as the only ingress/egress.. not worth it.

We moved here in 1996, we’ll be moving elsewhere in the next 10 years. These glossy portrayals have left SE NC unlivable with the unfettered, out of control development. The beautiful coast is a whorehouse for developers.

The island is three seperate towns.
North end is North topsail - bad to own and rent. Beach is eroding so bad the houses are at the waters edge. No businesses.
Middle is surf city. Major tourist attractions, food, stores, pier, renting and living. Great area.
South is town of topsail beach. Best for retiring. Not a lot of tourism. Calm. A lot of to offer. Great pier also. Some of the best fishing on the east coast. Especially from September thru November. Spring as well.
My favorite is topsail beach. Then Surf city. Id probably rather own in surf city tho because they have sewer. Topsail beach only has septic and it limits how big your house can be if you have to rebuild after a storm.
I go to the island about four to six times a year. Folks own a spot in topsail beach.

Way too built up and busy now. Was nice 20 to 25 years ago. Ruined by commercialism and over building.

I call cap, i think it’s fine as it is and it’s not as busy and built up as other beaches.

I think everyone knows about topsail now. The island is full of houses. Sad. No hidden gem now!

At least it's not like Wilmington or Jacksonville, nothing but tons of druggies and blockheaded southern pigf*ckers around

Facts!! ( I know this is a 10 month old post) but I had to comment. I live in Wilmington but keep a home on topsail (Surf City) right before the white tower where surf city ends and Topsail Beach (south end) starts. On a beautiful street called Bland Shores. I bought the home 11.5 years ago and in just over a decade it’s incredible how much it’s changed. My grandfather ownes 4 undeveloped sound-front lots that are one of last stretches of waterfront property yet to be developed. I still love it up there though but the summer can be challenging with the yanks coming down. Fall through early spring is the best. Especially late December through early March is PRIMETIME. Barely anyone there. That’s when it’s at its most quiet and magical. I looked at Wrightville beach when looking for a beach home (since it was closer to my main residence in Capr Fear CC). But the prices were just a bit out of my range. The lot/home I built soundfront is worth around $2.04-$2.10 Million depending. But it’s only going up so it’s a great deal (I don’t rent). If my home was on waterfront wrightsville property it would be every bit of $4.02-$5.15 Million depending on some variables. So yea it’s a STEAL compared to the wrightsville prices and much less crowded…which is why I love topsail in the offseason it’s THE BEST. Don’t even get me started on Figure 8…my home is 3,014 Square feet w/ 3 floors, 2 car garage on first level with the most badass sports bar setup in the 1st floor garage. Wapauca Home Elevator accessing all 3 levels, It’s 4 bedrooms, 4 full bathrooms & 1 half bathroom. 4-Burner Viking Range with center searing plate plus the cedar paneled hot rock sauna in the master bathroom. I have a pretty nice pool behind the home but I rarely use it, mostly by nieces and nephews use it plus my drunk ass friends haha. On Figure-8 my home would be valued anywhere between $5.56M-$6.14 Million. Which is why I built on topsail. The money I saved I got a 265 (26.5 foot) CC Sea Hunt with twin 150 Yamaha 4-stroke outboards that takes me to the Gulf Stream in a calm day no problem, we go in groups of 2 to 3 so it makes it safer. As long as you have twin engines or more and have a up-to-gate sea tow membership it’s certainly safe. I mostly use it for King Mackeral and Wahoo, as well as some Tuna and Cobia. But I also catch some beautiful sailfish when the time of year is right. Apart from King Mack sails are my favorite pelagic fish to catch. I also have a 1991 StarCraft Side Console Aluminum Jon boat with a 1992 Yamaha 40HP 2-stroke that will HAUL ASS since it’s the max HP that boat will handle. Plus those two strokes will fly as long as they are maintained regularly. I mostly use my marsh boat (the StarCraft) for flounder fishing and fishing for those super nice slot size redfish. Caught 9 2-2.5 weeks ago and 7 of them were fat and perfect slot size. Cooking them weekend after this one it’ll be delicious! If anyone lives on or near topsail (like Wilmington, Hampstead or Wilmington then reply to this and we’ll go fishing. Free of charge and I guarantee we won’t get skunked or I’ll give you 60% of your money back.
