The moment the yoyo comes close to your hand you move your hand back, so the speed of the yoyo in relation to your hand will be lower. Which in term softens the impact a bit.
I have been having trouble spinning the yo-yo and counter weight in sinc when releasing and catching the counterweight. It’s usually either one or the other, and I don’t know how to get it right. Could you please make a follow up video on this, or tell me which video addresses this?
+Yotricks I have my own way of binding where you would get the yo-yo on a rock the baby position and landing the yo-yo on the string to your right,I would say it is a good way to do it for beginners try it out and see if it's good

If you do the motions larger then everything will move a little slower. That being said, if you catch the counterweight in your hand the right way it shouldn't hurt anyway, because it is landing in the soft part of your palm.

Instead, catch it with your palm facing outwards, so that your thumb points downwards and to your body and your indexfinger to the ground and away from your body (if the yoyo is coming from the bottom). When throwing 1a, you also twist your wrist to catch the yoyo (from facin upwards to facing downwards) and you need to do the same for 5a. It bugged me for the entire last week, why my yoyo sometimes worked as intended and sometimes it didn't.
Which yo yo is a better beginner yo yo. The canon or the freehand. I would really love to get the canon yo yo (because it would be my first metal yo yo) But if the freehand is better for a beginner, I would choose that.
+Death Hugger They are both great for beginners. I would not recommend the Freehand over the Canon for a beginner, unless they could only afford the Freehand.
So far the Canon has proved extremely durable. I have used it more than the Freehand and really punished it, and it still plays like new. So far my Freehand still plays perfectly as well, but I have not tested it nearly as much.
You can do 5a with a responsive yoyo. The only problem with this is that it will make the tricks more difficult to learn because the yoyo will not be as forgiving.
My mom asked what does a counterweight do to the yo-yo? Can you give me an answer, so I could Let my mom know, and let her buy a counterweight for me and start 5A yo-yoing? even though I am 1A, I want to learn 5A

+Shou-Yick Ho Try moving the position of your opposite hand first finger before you start the trick. Whip a different portion of the string into it and see if that changes anything.

This is my first Yoyo ever. I have no idea how you throw the yo-yo into your left index finger my yo-yo doesn’t seem to go all the way. It seems that you assume we already know this.

I though the little die that came with it was just for decoration. I had no idea it was part of the yo-yo. So my question is. Can I practice non 5A tricks on a 5A yo-yo? let’s say if I remove the die and use it as a regular yo-yo.
I understand the throw part but he kinda just skipped a lot and said just set yourself up for a bind instead of actually explaining how to do it and it’s confusing cause he just does it without explaining how

Every time I try the bind, it comes back in a way that I have to flip the yoyo over to set up for my next throw

We haven't heard of a finger bone breaking from yoyoing! But it doesn't hurt to take a break for your finger to heal.
Do you really need a unresponsive yoyo for 5 a if you are a beginner? I have just began playing 5a and i only have a responsive yoyo. Does it work?
You can do 5a with a responsive yoyo. The only problem with this is that it will make the tricks more difficult to learn because the yoyo will not be as forgiving.
