    Cataloging was my main concern on switching but this video did an excellent job of a decent follow-thru, appreciate it my guy

      Yes I was surprised how much better cataloging is to 2023. I'm using it now to manage my 2 TB hard drive of photos.

    Nice video. But ON1 cataloging is very simple in comparison to software like Capture One or Lightroom.
    As example - there is not possible to build Smart Album with rules like "capture date is between 01.01.2023-10.01.2023 and3 Stars and has no keyword 'defect'; OR capture date is between 05.02.2024-12.02.2024 and3 Stars and has no keyword 'defect'". With search criteria yo can't build "groups"
    The next thing is - ON1 catalog in case it's going defect what I had already is not possible to repair it, because it's encrypted and not "standard" SQL based database

      This are wonderful points. I did notice that it can't build groups in smart albums as well very half-baked implementation. Should have included that in the video. I am not aware about "not possible to repair it " issue. Something to look into. However I have to say at least in my computer, that search in Capture One is way slower than ON1. Sometimes I have to wait minutes for the photos to appear on 100,000 catalog. Do you experience that yourself?

      Windows or Mac user?
      On Windows this is very old BUG. Capture One has been promising to fix this BUG for years and then they don't do it. That's why I use Photo Supreme as DAM system. C1 only Sessions.
      Unfortunately, ON1 cannot be combined particularly well with an external DAM system.

    • @takebetterphotos8132
      @takebetterphotos8132  2 месяца назад +2

      Oh really? That doesn't seem right for a $300 software! But the bug is so glaringly bad on Windows I'm surprised this has not been addressed. Lightroom gave me the response to a basic file search instantly and so did ON1. Glad to know it wasn't my computer with the problem. Another user suggested to use different catalogs and also similarly suggested a DAM. Seems like this is a necessity with C1. Hope to try Photo Supreme!

      @@takebetterphotos8132 - Yes, this BUG is I mean 5-6 Years old.
      I had hoped ON1 would be an alternative, but there are so many other BUGS here. I'd better stick with C1. With catalogues up to approx. 50000 images you hardly notice it but with larger ones. I have just over 230000 images in my catalogue. C1 is simply bad here.
      But ON1 is not necessarily better. Try to create a few SmartAlbums and then switch from one to another 2-3 times.

    What might the difference between Photo raw max (Au$240) and Photo raw Au$120 apart from the extra Au$120 to own ??? . They (most app makers) always seem to make it just a bit harder to decide .

    • @takebetterphotos8132

    How is the automatic masking compared to 2023? Thinking whether I should upgrade or wait for 2025 which should be around November this year?

    • @takebetterphotos8132

      The performance of automatic masking is a big improvement to 2023. Check out my review on it ruclips.net/video/bt5YL5ly8pA/видео.html. Personally, I would wait for 2025 since it is just a few months away but the price might be higher.

    Does On1 store files in cloud or on your hard drive? I prefer storing my photos on my computer hard drive . And can I use DXO PureRaw 4 to denoise and then edit with On1?

    • @takebetterphotos8132

      It stores on the hard drive and has a built in file-browser. You can definitely use DXO PureRAW to denoise and then edit with ON1 😊

      Sorry for the delay answering this. I suspect you are in the wrong folder which is the same name as your google drive. That's what happened to me. While I could see dropbox, was empty, It turns out the correct one was in another folder..

  • @nelzackleo
    @nelzackleo 2 месяца назад

    did you experience slow down when accessing/browsing folder on cloud storage with on-demand options?
    not my case, but one thing that you did not mention that I notice during my trial, was that it creates files in the same path as in folders. this can be a problem for people that likes to keep files extremely well organized.
    also, do you know if the 1 year free upgrades means for 365 days, or one year version of On1 (like 2024.x)?

    • @takebetterphotos8132
      @takebetterphotos8132  2 месяца назад

      I have not tried browsing folders with cloud storage so can't opine on its performance.
      You are correct with the additional files. I think you are referring to the .ON1 metadata files to store non destructive edits. The reason they do this is because ON1 support s file browsing not just a centralized database and they need a way to store the non destructive edits. DXO Photolab and Photomator also does this. A disadvantage I suppose as you say for those who want to keep things clean. My understanding for 1 year free upgrades is the latter that is if you get ON1 Photo RAW 2024, you get Photo RAW 2024.3, and Photo RAW 2024.5 for free. (Big upgrades by the way.) It's won't include ON1 Photo RAW 2025 which is launching around October. Hope this helps! Any more questions feel free to ask!

    • @nelzackleo
      @nelzackleo 2 месяца назад
