THanks for this On1 update video Jim. The software gets not only more powerful but easier to use. Competition between the various sofware companies are clearly keeping them on thier toes and us photographers get the benefit.
Many thanks for this. I like ON1 very much, though I also use LR. I checked-out the upgrade from PhotoRaw 2023 and the price was too good to let pass by. I haven't used it much as yet, but I shall dig into it, now that I've got it installed.
Very interesting, seems like a good update. That said, I know you've also posted videos about Luminar Neo. I'd be interested in a comparison of the two and/or your thoughts for someone who has little experience with photo editing and now doesn't own, or have significant experience with, either one.
Thanks and yes it is a great update. Both are great products, and I use and enjoy using both of them. That said, I use Luminar Neo more than any other product, but On1 is a strong #2 for me. And while there is overlap, they are also rather different in a number of ways. It would be too lengthy to go through it all here though. So your best bet is to download a trial of each and see which one feels like the better fit for your uses.
Mr. Nix in Color Balance...If I want to Batch Process images will each photo be masked for that particular image? Will they have the same settings but applied to each item in the photo? i.e. buildings, sky, trees.
Thank you Jim for this up date of 2024.5 I would like to see you do a video on using the new user interface. Where they hide everything, so you can't find it. I really wish that they left like the 2023 app.
Impressive video, Jim. I'd predict that Super Select AI in On1 Photo RAW version 2024.4 would not have isolated beach vs. sky or sand vs. grass nearly this well without manual brush refinement, compared to the new updated version, 2024.5. This looks like a real upgrade for Super Select AI in particular.
nice presentation. do you have tuto about ON1 AI object removal tool, just to compare with Photoshop or with the new LRC expensive generative tool (with tickets) ?
Thank you for showing the great new features. Another pro is the much faster installation of this new version. A con for me is that .png still can be exported in 16 bit only.
Quick question, why would you choose.png files? Like what is the main purpose? I know it might seem like a dumb question to you, but I just convert raw to jpg. And let it fly. Why png?
If I want to combine several images into collages in Affinity Photo, I use the .png format in 8 bit. I then output the result as a .jpg. This way I avoid having to compress the images twice. The 8 bit format is the right choice for me, as it produces significantly smaller files.
Hi Jim, which one do you think is best? Luminar neo or On1 photo raw? I've seen plenty of your luminar neo tutorials. Just wondering which one you prefer to use? Cheers.

This update is at least a solid triple if not a homerun. I felt before that On1 was kind of behind the curve on masking. This changes my opinion enough that I feel it is easier to use than Photoshop objects especially since you can create local adjustments or effects while in Photoshop you really only can mask using adjustment layers. What is still missing is a way to do an intersect. The speed enhancements are significant. Use an M1 Mac Mini 16GB which now blows through looking a folders via their browser function much like Adobe Bridge does. I don’t see any difference in performance between Bridge and this release of On1. If you are looking at a calendar function it is great as well. One other significant update how they do updates which is much faster now both in the download but also the installation. Overall Kudos to On1.
These smaller companies vs. Photoshop. As photographers we just can't all be boxed in by a monopoly. I think your comments are valid. These smaller companies are trying hard too. and you respect their efforts. And still expect results.👍 I have been using ON1 for about a little over a year now and it's getting better. But then if I really need to give my photos that nitro boost, I use Topaz AI to send them next level.
'm sure that's what it is. Right now On1 Photo RAW for new buyers is temporarily 30% off, in conjunction with the update. (That's a very good price for On1.) But while it never hurts to try, coupon codes don't usually work on top of a sale price at On1. (Sorry, Jim!) Pretty soon it will be back to full price, and then the coupon code will help.
Does this app require tons of computing power? I just bought it (thanks to this video) for my MacBook Air M2, 16GM, 1TB -- and doing any type of masking is like watching paint dry. It is so slow, takes about 5-10 seconds to catch up when "painting" in the mask. The app regularly becomes quickly unresponsive for 10-30 seconds at a time. As it is, ON1 is unusable for me. I went into the settings and selected using the M2 engine and forced CPU to "turbo", still same issue.
If you want to subscribe to On1 Photo RAW Max, you may as well buy now. If you want the non-subscription, non-Max version that would need a paid upgrade to Photo RAW 2025, waiting now could be the right call, as the 2025 version will likely be out in the fall. However keep in mind that the fall release can be buggy/slow at first, so some veteran users wait to upgrade anyway.
There is one feature that I miss in On1 and that is tagging photos with the spray can like in LR. Just switched from LR to ON1. Don't want a subscription anymore.
Thank you for getting right to the point and for doing such a great job of making things perfectly clear. You rock.
oh thanks, glad you like that, I appreciate it

@@efremmallach6501 you are welcome. You honestly cannot go wrong with either product. Both are excellent.
Thanks for showing the new features! I just updated, so can't wait to try it out.
thanks for watching Geoff!
It's a nice update from On1 for sure! Thanks for showing us Jim!
thanks TC!

Impressive update and tutorial.

Thank you so much Jim. Typing while I am watching. :)
thanks Jim!
Nicely done!

it's really solid Theo!

Thanks Jim. Man everyone wants the update, server is....packed! Trying all day. 😮
oh wow, I didn't know that, but hopefully you get it soon!
How’s library management? Is it quick?
Yes, a magnificent update indeed

Hmm that is odd. I recommend contacting their support team if you haven't already done so.

hallo! Where is function Focus stacking in RAW 2024 ?
hi, so i just tried to use your coupon and it said it cannot be found! any ideas?
Hmm, not sure but let me ask them and get back to you. Thanks.
They checked for me and it worked for them. Can you try again and ensure you have the code entered properly? Thank you.
@@JimNix yeh i will. i did notice there was a discount already and so maybe it doesn't stack, not sure. i message on1 to find out. thanks
@@rolex-js9nk oh right that could be the case

Something is not right, it runs fine on 2021iMac M1, 16GB, 512GB. Might want to hold down shift-key when starting the program and select Reset.
Looks amazing, but this late in the year I think I am going to hold out for On1 2025.
if you own 2024.x it is a no-brainer. If you don’t own 2024 I would seriously think about upgrading.

Hope you enjoy On1, it is quite powerful and fun to use.
Quick mask should be renamed to quicker mask if it is running quicker ...
ha true!
Yaw, slightly slower with very little advance in any speed.
Sorry to hear that. It feels faster to me on my 4 year old Mac, and once I upgrade to the M3 I expect it to really fly.
