Further evidence that all serious photographers are OCD. I'd bet that when you were done, you looked at it the next day, you were still not happy. I do love that with RAW, you can go back forever and correct, reverse and revise each move.
Very well explained and demonstrated. Thank you! Would it also work to use the radial gradients to just increase the whites instead of raising overall exposure or would that look unnatural?
Hi Daniel 😊. I always like to try something different in my editing. I also take a 20 minute break after trying new things. Go back after break and take a look and you will know right away if it looks unnatural 😊. Thanks for watching ☺️
I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 2023, with a RAW add on, which I can upload RAW file into, but it doesn't have the features you're using. How do I get the application you are using?
You can put linear gradients onto a mask. I'm pretty sure that there are no useful upgrades since my version PSE14 which is now 15 years old other than being able to group layers. Any upgrades now come with some sort of subscription, can't remember the details.
Enjoyed you excellent video and instructions. However,i have only elements and is an old one. What do you suggest for a more up to date photo processing one?.
Thanks for watching the video 😊There are many editing software to choose from. I suggest you search for one on RUclips. DXO is a good one but it comes with a one time fee.😊
Hello Richard, great work, but: you have already converted your photo to black and white when you show it to the viewer at minute 1:09, but not in Camera Raw, as the profile is still set to ‘Colour’. How and where did you convert it to black and white and was there any editing before camera raw?
Hi there, yes it was converted to black and white in Photoshop. I have other videos explaining the full process from colour to black and white and then to fine art ☺️. Thanks for noticing and thank you for watching ☺️
Thanks Richard for a great video. RAW capabilities are in cameras for good reason and you’ve demonstrated why in excellent fashion. The RAW file is the negative and when processed one has the opportunity to creatively interpret it as was the case with film. JPEG is fake because it’s left to a computer to determine the final result. RAW requires the human creative spark, JPEG doesn’t. I’ve just started using Camera RAW so your video is timely. Keep up the good work. I am pleased to subscribe to you.
Hi there ☺️, I'm so happy you took the time to explain Raw file and Jpeg. I been getting a few comments saying that my images are fake. Thank you so much 😊 you made me smile ☺️
@ You do what you do to assist people and they are downright rude and insulting. You don’t deserve it. Opinions aren’t facts. I’m glad you’re feeling better. Half of them don’t know what they’re talking about. All the best. I’ll be around. This video has changed the way I’ll be processing & I’m grateful for it and the way you present it. 😀
@ You do what you do to assist people and some of them are just downright nasty. You don’t deserve it and they’re keyboard cowards. I’m glad you’re feeling better. You’re very polite to these bullies. This video has changed the way I will be editing and it will take my work to a different level so I’m very grateful.
My pictures have changed since I've watched your videos. My histograms look like yours, leaning left (as do I). It's a whole new style. Could you do all that dodging using the brush and intersecting with a luminance range? For fun, I removed the bridge from your pic using the remove tool. Perfect, like it wasn't there.
Nice video and information Richard! Thanks! For my part, I use Silver Efex 3.0 in the NIK Collection, which gives many opportunities to mix the "boring" photo with. Using the blend mode "Luminosity" also reproduces the colors from the photo. There is an incredible amount to be able to experiment with. I really agree that a boring photo can be transformed into something extra ordinary :-)
The only technique is to take a picture in a good light in the first place, i cannot unsee those unnatural burns. It will help if the landscape is interesting as well
He’s just showing us his workflow and I very much appreciate his artistry, and his patient teaching skills. Please direct us to your far superior instructional videos with your much better photographs.
Good luck with always getting good light. If you shoot film you will do dodging and burning in a darkroom, digital is no different. But it helps if you know what you’re doing 😄
The trick is to find the right place and time and take a good photo in M mode. This is another Instagram graphics tutorial, but of course your technique is ok, best regards
Thanks for sharing. It was very interesting. Although I must add, the final result style looks fake because it would never look like that in reality. Notwithstanding this, I am going to try the technique myself.
So actually its all fake! I Always prefer the real shot, because thats the real one. But hey anyway an awesome video. It all depends on someones taste.
Thanks for the comment 😊Please bear in mind that photographers shoot in RAW files and you must edit the image in editing software or the image will turn out with no detail and be flat. Thanks for watching and your opinion 😊
@@RichardBrockwell-hr1so I know that i shoot myself! But do i really think it looks so real, uh no, look at hollywood, its all fake. I just dont like fake thats why i setup my camera in jpeg so it comes close to what is see, but hey its all preference, you do you i do it my way! Thanks. Oke in some situations you gotta shoot raw because of the light conditions, but otherwise no.

great editing...I usually start by converting to BW using either a red, blue or green filter and blending those together first..
Great choice 😊 must try that . Thanks for watching ☺️
This kind of final result has a long tradition from way before Photoshop. It's called a Landschaft. Look it up.
Thanks for the information 😊

Why not using a luminance mask instead of so many radial gradients?
Hi there, Yes i do use luminance mask also but not all the time. Thanks for the comment 😊
@RichardBrockwell-hr1so Very nice final image indeed using that kind of dodge&burn!
Thanks so much 😊

No Photoshop whizz, just editing like all photographers do as we shoot in RAW, and raw files need to be edited 😊
