Yes for both of your questions (External drives and Non destructive). Where you have to watch out is that Unlike Adobe Bridge and Adobe Lightroom, due to its AI search features, it is extremely important to re analyse your photos each time you work with files to make sure that the Artificial Intelligence analysis is spot on. Therefore, work on files/analyse the folder you worked on and then close the software. I will do a video on this very subject shortly. I just find it a bit crazy that such a wonderful software doesn't clarify your queries on their webpage and via tutorials, FAQs, and other info. It is really the only fault of the software. Here is my suggestion to you. Use my affiliate link 😎 and go for the 14 day trial. Make your decision after day 10. Sounds like a plan! It is a brilliant software. There is also the Lightroom plugin called EXCIRE SEARCH. The simplicity and straightforwardness of this software fascinates me.

Thanks for the review of Excire Foto 2024. I was curious if you had a chance since the review to compare it with similar capabilities in ON1 Photo RAW which also has AI keyboarding as part of its cataloging.
I simply does not. Excire offers a full photo organizing solution. You could probably get to this with Chat RTX, but not without trial and error and a whole load of prompting. Chat RTX also requires an RTX NVIDIA graphics card equipped PC, which limits the scope of who can use it. Not in the same league at least for now. Talk to me in a year, though. Things might change
You lost me at ‘subscribe’ the cocaine of corporate greed! Getting back into Photography (after a decade of shooting chrome and drum scanning my best shots in the 90s) but there is no reason to be putting my stuff in any trap by which companies (effectively) own your work and let you borrow it back for a “fee” and the government and courts BACK THEM UP!!! 🤬
Does this require a subscription… and - once subscribed (even for “free”) and you have spent countless hours building your database… how do you “export” your data and metadata to another tool… IF (when) they “change the terms of service” 🧐 The acceptable pricing model was the original ie you BUY a package and you are given the “option” to BUY future versions IF they have new features that are worth the cost of the upgrade… otherwise you stick with the functionality that you.., PURCHASED. Nothing is “free”
I agree, but for some reason, I guess Google is sending people to my review when they type in "Free photo culling". Weird. My video does not talk about it being free. However, here is my take. A person like you might be willing to fork out the cash as this is a standalone app that does not upload your photos to the internet. However, you are right on one point. All the AI models (LLMs) use the internet to update, reference, and collate their criteria. I also want to add to your "nothing is free" statement. Nothing "worth it" is for free. There are people that research and work hard on making software that works well. One thing that is common about all freeware is that it either sucks or sells your personal info. It is curious how the cookie sometimes crumbles.
