We want your thoughts and comments below. What are some of your best engine problem stories? What kind of project are you working on? What Mustang are you daily driving?
Today at Alf's Mustang Garage, we have a 1966 Ford Mustang with multiple cylinder misfires. I show you how to diagnose this problem step by step. We take a manifold vacuum gauge reading, we then move to a compression test, followed up by a cylinder leak down test.

Rough idling but no exhaust smoke: Did comp. tests on mine. #2 cyl. showed 95 PSI and the others showed 130ish. Squirted in some oil and came up to 110 PSI. Pulled the head anyway. #2 & #6 pistons damaged from something getting into the cylinders. Set of STD pistons, rings, gasket set and valve job. We'll see.

Wow makes you wonder what got in there. She will run like a champ once you're done with her.

    Very informative video, thank you!
I did a compression test on my 65 289 and got the following psi numbers for each cylinder:
    1 - 131
    2 - 131
    3- 140
    4 -130
    5 - 96
    6 - 30
    7- 15
    8 - 20
So clearly I have an issue with cylinders 5-8 on the driver’s side I don’t have a leak-down tester but I will have to get one to investigate further. Any idea what could cause such low compression numbers?
I believe the car was sitting for over 10 years before I purchased it. I did manage to get it started a couple times, but it died shortly after. Any help is appreciated!

Oh wow you definitely have something going on with that left bank. Ya a leak down tester would be great to have. Hopefully you may just have cylinders washed out. You could try adding a little engine oil to each of those cylinders through the spark plug hole and then re-check the compression. See if that gets them to seal up. Otherwise you may have something else going on. Let me know how it goes.

I sprayed some oil in cylinders 5-8 and re-ran the compression test. The numbers came back much higher now!
      5-131
      6-150
      7-140
      8- 125
I was very hopeful it would start up now with the much higher compression, but it still didn’t!
Is it possible even though they are generating sufficient compression I still have a leak somewhere?
