    I’m a Jeep guy, have 3 wranglers in my household, but I have been getting the classic Mustang bug, would love a ‘66 289 HiPo, a Pony from the year of my birth. Not the purist type, love the classic cars that have been “modernized”, like this one, but maintain the classic look.

  • @TheSchmed
    @TheSchmed 2 дня назад

    All the sealed stuff nowadays is garbage, love the old days with greasable fittings and bearings that need to be packed/greased. Someone like me who does maintenance at 1/2 the recommended interval gets a lot more longevity, or if I sunk that axle, all grease/lubricants are getting replaced.

    Looking to tackle this soon on my 65. One thing to note, when I changed my filter a bit ago I did not note a spring that came out of the hole like at the end there. What is that exactly? Could mine have just been stuck up there? I know it didn't fall out.

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage 2 дня назад

      Ford is known to have small design changes to their parts throughout the years. Yours likely doesn't have that spring because it's an earlier C4. The one in this particular car was a later model C4, 72 if my memory serves me right. I think they made this design change in 69.

      @@AlfsMustangGarage Makes sense. I've run into a lot of weird slightly different things with my car like vacuum fittings that only 5 cars ever seem to have had haha. Spare parts were in short supply in 65. I JUST got the car on the road for the first time since November today, so I'll let it leak a little bit before I tackle this.

    Need to know where to connect the hot vacuum carburetor line that is towards the back of the carburetor any help would be greatly appreciated

    • @BlisterBang
      @BlisterBang 3 дня назад

      I'd be happy to help. Are you are talking about the line that runs to the choke assembly? This line runs from the exhaust manifold up to the pipe fitting on the choke assembly. Actual exhaust does not come up this tube, it just draws air that is heated by the exhaust manifold. The opposite side of the choke fitting has a double-looking tube. One of these is for the mounting screw on that side, the other goes into the casting of the carburetor and runs down to a hole in the base of the carburetor opening up to the intake manifold. The intake manifold provides a vacuum to draw that hot air from the exhaust manifold through the choke assembly to heat the bimetalic "spring" and, thereby, open the choke when it gets hot enough. Look carefully at the exhaust manifold in that area to find a built in spot to stick the "hot tube".

    Very informative video, thank you! I did a compression test on my 65 289 and got the following psi numbers for each cylinder: 1 - 131 2 - 131 3- 140 4 -130 5 - 96 6 - 30 7- 15 8 - 20 So clearly I have an issue with cylinders 5-8 on the driver’s side I don’t have a leak-down tester but I will have to get one to investigate further. Any idea what could cause such low compression numbers? I believe the car was sitting for over 10 years before I purchased it. I did manage to get it started a couple times, but it died shortly after. Any help is appreciated!

    • @AlfsMustangGarage
      @AlfsMustangGarage 14 дней назад

      Oh wow you definitely have something going on with that left bank. Ya a leak down tester would be great to have. Hopefully you may just have cylinders washed out. You could try adding a little engine oil to each of those cylinders through the spark plug hole and then re-check the compression. See if that gets them to seal up. Otherwise you may have something else going on. Let me know how it goes.

    • @RobDellaCroce
      @RobDellaCroce 14 дней назад

      I sprayed some oil in cylinders 5-8 and re-ran the compression test. The numbers came back much higher now! 5-131 6-150 7-140 8- 125 I was very hopeful it would start up now with the much higher compression, but it still didn’t! Is it possible even though they are generating sufficient compression I still have a leak somewhere?
