A lot of black and white sets and costumes were like that! Cause they were trying to get specific values for a specific look, so some costumes and sets would be absolutely WILD, color-wise. Extra fun fact! Due the the type of film the show used, Star Trek: The Original Series actually used a horrible, pea soup green for the gold uniforms. The film skewed yellow, so they had to compensate, and the yellow/gold they originally used looked really odd. You can see the Captain's uniform kinda shift into the green in some shots, too!
@@Kayla_P99 YEAH! Max Factor had to do COMPLETELY new formulas when they went to color, and some of the "blonde bombshells" had hair that looked kinda...wrong in person, but fantastic on film! And there was one movie that I remember that wanted a really rich black color on black and white, but black didn't look black, so the costume was made out of a kinda forest green velvet! I want to say it was the caretaker's dress in Rebecca, but I'm not completely sure 😃
Do you know what this house reminds me of? A grandparent's home with grandkids that come and stay over. They recently passed away and now you come in and wow some furniture is old and doesn't match, but others do. I really like the vibe of that for this house.
I mean. It makes sense. Everything was black-and-white back then, so they didn't know what color couch they had in their living room until like the 60s. That's why old houses look that way.
Fun fact: White guitars were too bright for black and white TVs, so “TV Yellow” is a color that was developed for guitars so that they would appear white - it looks pretty close to the yellow on the swing set and the curtains, which is why you thought both were white.
This is definitely Gramma's House ^__^ It's pink and cute and charming. The mismatch feels realistic in a way - sometimes you have to get whatever you can afford for furniture.
It’s probably been done before, but it would be fun to do a randomized build challenge where let’s say you want to add a toilet, then you have to randomize what toilet you get from those available. Then you do this with every type of item you use until you finish the house. You could choose to randomize swatches as well or try to pick the best swatch based on the randomized item. It could get pretty chaotic. Edit: thanks for all of the likes and comments. This is definitely the most I’ve received. :)
Okay I thought it was only me that somehow could NEVER find the links that she promises to link down below! lol Whoever is uploading her videos NEEDS to actually puts the links that she promises us! :D
i think it might be dan because he edits the videos and simsie said on stream that he doesn't even know what the names of her sims are so he is not really paying that much attention
The moment she picked flooring from Cats and Dogs I knew it was gonna be Bear in the Big Blue House in here lmao, that flooring only has 3 or so passable swatches.
Challenge idea: Black and white challenge, but you try to make the house actually black and white without being able to see if you've got the right color >:)
I would love to see you "fix" this by just changing swatches. Item doesn't have a fitting swatch? Tough luck, gotta make it work. Might get you to step out of your comfort zone without it being too stressful
It's so interesting it ended up with so much pink and green cuz that's the colours they used on black and white tv/film sets to make the grayscale have more depth and look better
hiiii. ive been watching you for 2 years and i just wanted to tell you that i love your videos and you're an amazing person because of what you do for st. Jude
I always do the ‘desk in random stairwell or empty space’ thing, because it’s convenient and it fills awkward gaps, but man would I hate something like that in real life, lol. You’d have no privacy whatsoever and you’d have to try to work while the other housemates ran by you or watched TV or whatever.
When I was a kid in the 90's and early 2000's, it was just normal to have the computer somewhere public like the living room, because a lot of families only had one and everyone had to share. Some apartments were even built with a computer nook off the dining room or living room!
Renovation challenge: Take any of your color-based challenge houses (black-and-white, inverted, every room is a different color, solid-color, etc) and try to make them look as good/normal as possible, without changing anything (not walls, not items, not room arrangement, nothing) other than the swatches of the items that are already there.
Video idea: Go through and pick new swatches but keep all the objects the same! I think this house is super adorable and would love to see how it looks with different colors!
In the end when Kayla said nothing is blue, I wanted to tell her soooo bad "nothing you WANTED to be blue, was blue... The flooring, the only thing you didn't want to be blue, was blue!" 😂
This is a really nice house! With the exception of the mismatched upper cabinets, I think the colors actually ended up working really well. The slight mis-match makes it feel more lived in, in my opinion. :)
As a colourblind person this is extra hilarious- this challenge is almost my every day mode lmao (also means I can’t much judge the final result accurately but nice job Kayla!)
The finished colors gave me a little chuckle, I made a new sim not too long ago & she had a lot of pinks & purples in her wardrobe so I decided to echo that in her house, I didn't intend on the exterior being pink but when I was looking at the colors, it just sort of ended up being pink & white, I used some stuff you used in your build like the window that ended up pink, that's like the primary window I used in the house. She did have a child recently & I added on a room for the kid, I decided the child would have lots of blues & greens with a dinosaur theme & that came together nicely but clashes entirely with the rest of the house, you have this cute, pink & purple house like everything is pink, purple, & white, then there's a dinosaur kids room with lots of blues & greens. What I'm saying is that you should be proud of what you managed to pull off without color, I made something horrific with color. Whenever the kid moves out, I'll probably change the room up to match the house & possibly turn it into a guest room or something. Obviously I'll alter it as she ages but it's going to keep her color theme as long as she lives there.
6:52 hey! So i’ve noticed that when i’m struggling with the end caps for upper cabinets, it helps to put the cabinet you’re putting next to it first, because it will auto-slot if there’s a cabinet next to it. I don’t know if that wording really makes sense so if anyone’s reading this comment because they want to figure out how to make those cabinets work and they don’t get it, i can try to word it better
Took advantage of the sponsorship & enjoyed the build! It totally feels like grandmas house like a lot of people said hah love it. Youve been inspiring me to build more lately =) been playing since sims 1 but im more Cas-Story heavy cause I'm not great at building hah
I really appreciate your videos, for real. Have been watching only you to go to sleep because calms me down, specially the building videos. Thought that I should let you know that people around the hole world enjoy your job! Thanks for all the good moments. Seeing this old one because I literally saw all the other ones you posted before! Love u ❤
I JUST tagged her in something Rick Astley related on TikTok, I hope she sees it, it was funny 😂 I thought the house was gonna be black and white not a color filter! I’m so excited to see how this turns out!
I feel like Kayla should allow herself to do like a part 2 to these types of challenges where she's able to fix the swatches and colors to match how she would want the house to look in the first place, and then compare the gray-scaled house to the recolored version of the grayscale house.
Was surprised to see the Factor advertisment. Been getting it for a month now and it's honestly super good and have loved just about every meal I've received.
this is probably how the people used to build tv sets before color tv, people probably looked insane on those sets, but as long as it looked good on b&qw its cute
I feel like you’d play this as a 1700-1900 esc kind of themes build, oooh that’d be a cool scenario to play :0 it’ll all be in black and white as well and you can follow historical scenarios- throughout history and slowly you gain color as photo/movie colors change :0
THANK YOU for this sponsorship. I have been looking for gluten-free meal service options (ingredients and recipe boxes or pre-made) because I’m a busy teacher with Celiacs and I haven’t been able to find anything with substantial options that are worth committing to. The menus on this website are all gluten-free from what I’ve seen and there’s a lot of variety each week. I’ve just set up my first 2 boxes. THANK YOU!
new build challenge idea, every room is a different room. Now you may think that's a normal house, except with this, you put all the necessary rooms one would need in a house, (and maybe a few extras) and each time you spin you have to add that room to the build, but you don't remove it from the wheel once it's built, it stays on the wheel. So either a) you keep spinning until you get one of each room on the wheel OR b) you give yourself a certain amount of spins and what you get is what you get, whether it's functional or not! Or similarly, the same thing except you can remove the room once it's been picked (except if you want multiple of a room put it that many times on the wheel) but you have to build it in the order it's picked by the wheel.
Have you ever done an interior design challenge? Your builds are so good, it would be really cool if you build a house(including exterior/landscaping) and allowed your viewers to design the inside of it. Or have you already done that?
I literally just got home to my box of factor75 while watching this! Love them! My fav is the peanut Buddha bowls and I just ordered the Mothers Day brunch for 4. I wish they had promo codes for people who use it regularly.
I was inspired by this challenge, but instead of building without being able to see color, I built everything in black, white, and gray. It was a '60s tiny house, like in Bewitched. I also made a sim in grayscale - all of her clothing, makeup, and accessories, and also the skin color! The concept is that this sim was a TV character from the '60s and she was transported to the real world with her house and everything remains black and white like it was in the show.
Honestly, I would just change just a few swatches, a lot of it looks really good and it fits well. It's also different from your usual -I'd love to see another black and white challenge, where you only change mismatched swatches after (like in the kids room, the desk/chair combo, etc)? The best of both worlds, getting you out of your comfort zone and allowing for things to just. Look nice.
Thinking back to your recent rags to riches, maybe you could do a build challenge where you build a house (all packs), then at the end each room has to have two objects changed by the sim ray anywhere between 1-10 times randomized
Those pink walls go nicely with that roof and the plants. The furniture of the living room are from some thrift shop, chosen by different peoples, and the wall paper chosen by another.
You should do a solid colour build challenge, and then renovate it by changing the swatches of all the items! No swapping items, just changing the colours (including wallpaper and flooring).
Challenge: Black and white, but you can see the colors and try to make a depressing funeral house. In black and white of course. In other words, try building a house but the color scheme should be only black, white, or gray! :] also I’ve watched your past videos in this series and I love them!
Kayla, you should do a legacy of like 5-10 generations all in black and white! And then at the very last Gen go to your gallery and see what each Gen looked like!

The swingset at the front of the house, with the possibility of the kid falling literally onto the street, instead of it being at the back of the house? Hilarious! But the challenge is soo fun to watch and do
Fun fact! On the Addams family tv show all the sets were colored pepto bismol pink because that looked the best in black and white.
Wow, really?! That's HILARIOUS 🤣
Yeah, love looking at set images that are in color. Hilarious!
