I recently had a 12 hour surgery to remove the majority of a cancerous tumor from my spine. I finish my radiation treatments next Friday. Someone faking this is absolutely disgusting! I didn't lose my hair because of the tumor I had, where it was, and the treatment I received, but let me tell you the whole process was not a fun one. I am very much looking forward to leaving this chapter of my life in the rear view mirror! Love the content August, keep it coming!

As a child I had a really rare form of cancer on my spine that grew so large it wrapped its way around my spinal cord leaving me paralysed. It metastasized and spread to my blood & bone marrow. I had chemo, radiation & many experimental surgeries. I died 3 times & I'm alive now due to bone marrow donations from a kind stranger. My family were in poverty but I'm British so thankfully had the NHS. We raised money - for the hospital. Never despite needing it did we ask for money for us so this has truly made me so angry. The fact that she only has to pay a small fine, give the money back and do community service is insanity to me. I can't believe the excuse of her parents divorce was enough for her to get away with such a disgusting crime. Awful, just awful.

I can say without a doubt that if I had a friend or family member that faked any form of cancer, especially for a scam, I would completely cut them out of my life, no matter who got taken as collateral damage. @@jemarcusrusselljr2908 I suspect the thing that had to do with this specifically, is due to how our punishments dont have a ton of “grey area”.
The judge is basically being asked “was this crime so bad that it should follow her for the next 10+ years, regardless of what kind of person she is 10 years from now.” That judge probably does believe that she should be punished, but he cant give her half a felony. Thats also how you get those cases where it seems ridiculous that that person wouldn’t be charged.

People like this girl are WHY my mother didn't get the support she needed when she had her battle with cancer over the past couple years. During her first round of treatment, she didn't lose much of her hair or anything, she was just tired a lot, and it was compounded by the insomnia she had from the anxiety. But because there were stories of people faking cancer for money and attention, my grandmother didn't believe a single word of it because she didn't lose her hair that first time, even though my mother would offer to let my grandmother come with her to see the treatment for herself and also look at the paperwork she'd bring home. It got to where when my mother's cancer returned a few months after and she had to go through more brutal treatment that DID cause her hair to fall out, my grandmother accused her of shaving her head. She had the whole family believing it too, just because of internet stories like this girl.
My mother's finally in remission as of May this year, but she's been heartbroken because she couldn't share that achievement with anyone but me.

I lost my mother to terminal leukaemia as an 8 year old, and then, when I was 16 was diagnosed with a cancer-like tumour in my brain. I had an emergency surgery, two biopsies and was given enough chemotherapy to kill someone twice my age (so I was told) the radiation wasnt much better.
I would not wish what I'd been through to my worst enemy. During my last lot of chemotherapy (stem cell transplant) I the skin in my mouth peeled off like a sunburn, my skin was so incredibly dry, it would flake off like I had a sunburn. I had absolutely no hair, not even eye brows or lashes.
When I was finally let out after 4 weeks, I weighed less than 50kg (I was 19 at the time).

Being 26 yrs old, I was her caregiver for the short 1 year she had battling cancer and held her in my arms when she passed away when it was just her and I at home. Cancer doesn't fix relationships. It's brutal and heartbreaking. It's beyond Me that this chick thinks that cancer would magically fix her mom and dads issues. Sometimes ppl need to seperate and get divorced! She honestly probably made her home life WAY worse saying she had all these medical issues going on and now on top of that it was all a scam. What a joke of a person. It's a shake she didn't get punished. A slap on a wrist won't teach ppl like her how wrong and disrespectful her actions were. Ugh I'm disgusted and honestly hope she gets her karma for that.

His family didn’t do a gofund me, in fact they were offered and it wasn’t wanted as they said they were already financially stable & thought it would be a misplaced use of friends and family’s money. The person with cancer even brought his parents a house so they were closer to his wife to help with the kids. Even after he passed his wife asked for nothing, she could have had 1000’s of dollars of funds raised but didn’t want it. I myself come from the most broken of families, I’ve already lost my sister to alcoholism, my mum to extreme illness & my dad is a raging alcoholic who fought in Vietnam so he is an absentee dad & I’m very ill with an autoimmune disease but I don’t need to promote that to my friends or family. In fact I’ve removed myself from most social media because I don’t want that attention. Nothing in what she did and has now said tell me she did this for anything but herself. She already had more than most & seems like she wanted more. So sad.

Coming from a Courtroom Technician who works at a courthouse, I handle IT and AV-related tasks. It's worth noting that incidents like this occur more frequently than people realize. In my opinion, considering this story gained national attention, the coverage should have provided more details. The defendant's speech did not result in any changes or leniency in her sentence. As far as I observed, she was ordered to reimburse GoFundMe and pay fines, perform community service, and remain on probation for three years. Any violation during her probation could lead to the full 10-year sentence. It's disheartening that this situation demonstrates a lack of consequences for one's actions, merely resulting in a minor punishment. The defendant was fully aware of her actions, and including her family as a factor is unjustified. Personally, I believe a two-year sentence would have been more equitable.

And, as others have pointed out, if this was a guy that was caught doing this, he'd have been tossed in prison. Gender equality is a flippin joke when it comes to laws and punishment.
Don't even want to think about what would have happened if she wasn't white(This inequality also sickens me. We all bleed in the same damn colour when cut, so why are we attacking each other over the colour of one's skin!?)

I could give her stories that would shake her to the core about broken families. I don't buy this. The bad acting of the tears, the statement, and the insincerely addressed issues.

Having a broken family does not excuse anybody from taking accountability for their actions that had nothing to do with their family.

You pretty much said everything there is to be said about this. I hate how they frame this as a 'mistake' when what she did was very intentional.

Ugh I hate it when these people do the crocodile tears I court. Then completely make up a story to get some pity points from people so they can get away with a crime.
