@SquidimirLeninclesIt's not that they didn't, they unfortunately can't in any meaningful manner. Police can only trigger CPS interventions, not open a criminal investigation. Unfortunately, police can only intervene if they actually observe abuse or overt neglect. Her videos aren't concrete evidence of abuse; after her arrest, they'll now be evidence. Without cooperation from the children or verifiable abuse, it's extremely difficult for CPS to actually do something concrete. Her videos don't qualify as proof of neglect or abuse for an investigation to proceed successfully. Now that there's absolute proof, hopefully those children will be able to trust enough to really talk about what went on. Their statements will help connect police calls, teacher concerns, the videos and any CPS calls that didn't have enough actionable material.
If this woman would have had a CPS visit, I think it's more than likely that she could have snowed the investigator, then been prepared for any future visits.

      @shawncat Год назад

@SquidimirLenincles From a June 2023 article on the idiotic Texas governments BS attempt to keep providing care that literally doesn't meet the Federal standard for the other 49 states. Not joking.
"Faced with a troubled foster care system and a 12-year-long lawsuit for putting children in state custody at risk, Texas legislators this year made sweeping changes to state agencies that look after vulnerable kids removed from their homes.
But legislators’ focus was less on conditions for children in the system and more on reducing the number of kids entering state care. The Legislature zeroed in on how child abuse investigations kick off and play out, making it harder for the Department of Family and Protective Services to remove children from homes, saying parents facing abuse accusations are entitled to more rights.
While lawmakers ironed out new policies on investigations to prevent kids from entering the system, they stuck to basic fixes for children already in the state’s care. In one instance, they mandated the state provide foster kids duffel bags and backpacks - instead of trash bags - to transport their belongings.
For years, the state has been entangled in a federal lawsuit for putting children in state custody at risk. The judge in the case first declared in 2015 that children age out of the system more damaged than when they enter. Since then, court watchdogs have found that caretakers misused psychotropic drugs, residential facilities housing kids were not in compliance with safety standards and that the state child welfare agency was not tracking child-on-child abuse."

The bed-wetting bit hit deep. As a former bed-wetter in my youth, there is nothing more embarrassing than having to to your parent and admit you 'messed up' again. My mother understood that my body was just growing at an awkward pace, it really doesn't matter if you drink anything right before bed. To think this poor girl was forced to sleep on the bathroom floor. Absolutely infuriating. I certainly hope these children find peace and not believe that any of this was their fault.

I was sent to wilderness therapy just before i turned 18. It was miserable. Ive hated even luxury camping for a weekend since i was a child and my parents knew that, but they sent me anyway. I get out of the shower one night after having a totally normal day and suddenly im in a car driving from chicago to North Carolina with total strangers. 100 straight days. I definitely can say that it helped with /some/ things but my life has never been the same since then. Its like how most people see covid nowadays, the time before and the time after are completely different eras. It is deeply traumatizing and it feels like youre being thrown away.
You have zero freedom, zero personal belongings short of underwear, zero access to the outside world. You dont get to make decisions. You dont have free will. You cant read. You cant play games. You cant talk to people unsupervised. You cant eat when you want to. You dont even get to decide when to go to the bathroom. Not that there even is a bathroom, theres a hole in the ground. Which they made us dig ourselves. The motto of those places should be “we expect you to act like adults while being treated like toddlers”. I wish i had seen this video sooner so more people would see this.
August, if you see this comment, please, please do a video on these horrible places. Tell our stories. Trails Carolina was the name of the place i was sent if you need a place to start. Thanks to anyone whos read this far. I hope the world can see what wilderness therapy really is.

One of the greatest joys I get out of being a mother is feeding my kids and even the little chew noises they make or the way they try to talk to me with a mouth full of food. Anybody else and open mouth eating noises I can’t stand but something about my kids eating a good warm meal brings me immense joy and satisfaction. My oldest of my 2 kids is 12 and I still make his lunches for school every morning because I want him to eat good. Both my kids are always welcome to help themselves to the fridge and cuboards whenever they please. And also I know they will be more content and behave better if they have full bellies. Even adults act out when they are hungry. There’s no logic or reason behind using food deprivation for any kind of punishment for anyone.

The teenage camp thing happened to a good friend of mine. His family were strict religious folks that'd do stuff like cutting power to the house and having the kids hide under the bed on Halloween. He's got Asperger's and was over diagnosed meds to the point he was basically a drug addict by the time he was a teen. One day he literally brought a gun to school in his backpack because of bullies. His grandma caught him and they sent him to that camp. He was only supposed to do like a month there but he did it for like 6 months. They'd strip search him and basically fed him only bread and water for multiple months. He went from being obese to very skinny.

In high school, these girls I'd hang out with would put the ACE family on when we had free time at the end of Community and Families Studies. I felt so uncomfortable in a way I couldn't describe. It was uncanny, and disturbing. And they tried to play it off like " they're just documenting their child grow up, and posting it. Whats wrong with that?". It was the "and posting it" part. Childhoods are meant to be sacred and special, not plastered across the internet without express, fully informed consent from the child. For example, child actors: they audition, they take time to grow accustomed to the idea of being on screen, they can comsent to that. But having mundane, even embarrassing childhood experiences put up for stramgers, particularly unsavoury types, to see? It's ethically wrong.

Back in ye olden times it was even considered a bad idea since back in the day kids had to work and laborers work a lot less at physical labor when they're starving. Back in the 70s it was already becoming unpopular since it was feared starving kids would make them become obsessive with food and either over eat and get fat or under eat ans become spindly little weaklings, ans now we know that it can be more damaging than that. The other things like taking away a kids bed or grounding a kid for months for asking what movie they're going to see isn't even strict parenting or old fashioned parenting, its pure abuse.

The way i was raised and treated by almost everyone already fucked me up. But add millions of people calling me a loser on top of that, I'd be so fucked up there'd be no fixing it.

Family channels are so terrible and so is most of social media. The way social dynamics have changed and now literal child abuse is seen as worthy content to quite a few people is truly disturbing, and we wonder why more and more cases are popping up

This hits me especially hard as I work with kids for my job. I currently work as a Campus Supervisor (the guys in the Neon Green Vests) at the middle School I went to as a kid, and I'm currently enrolled in college classes to help me become an Elementary School Teacher. Every aspect of my career path centers around making sure kids are healthy and happy. So to know that a group of kids were suffering like this, and the one making them suffer was *their own mother,* Well... _It makes my blood boil._

You can never get over abuse. I was consistently abused by most of my family as a child and teen. You can recover from some of the damage enough to be able to enjoy life and get past it but abuse does damage that lasts forever.

Ruby said that eating was a *privilege*. So she was starving her children and blaming them for her abuse. She also left them alone for days on end. I hope the courts throw all the books at her.
I feel so bad for those children. It’s not going to be easy to deprogram them and convince them that they’re not bad. They have been programmed to be exactly what their mom wanted them to be. Including following her instructions in their religion.
My brother and I grew up in a fundamentalist Christian cult, and it’s taken years to change our beliefs about religion. The number 1 reason why my mom got I’d into the cult was because the church convinced her that our souls were in danger. They also encouraged her abuse and told her it was necessary to save our souls.
I hope they are surrounded by people who love them and will help them deprogram.

As someone who grew up in similarly abusive households, the one nice thing about social media is that at least people and posting evidence of how they abuse their children. A lot of the things those poor kids experience I've gone through the same or similar after being adopted, but there was never enough "proof" for CPS to do anything. I really hope they are getting the care and help they need and get a really really awesome family to love them and help them experience a better life.
