I'd run that lower track 100% across the opening as you have potential to catch a sidewall and knocking hole in tire if you only go so far across
Was going to say the same thing. taking it the extra 4 feet until behind the other side of fencing, even if not technically needed would also help with it looking more uniform as well as protecting cars, kids, and others from catching the edge. Ideally it would have been set into the concrete vs raised, but sometimes you just gotta make do.
Agree100% for visual and cohesiveness and I would worry about that corner .
I would run it all the way across as well.
Same. Run the track all the way across. And, fill the pole to strengthen it.
Same thought, also, just for appearance, all the way across is going to look better.
Fill the pole with concreat. That will help stiffen the post and make it less susceptible to bending.
👆🏽love this idea!
@@LonestarHawaiian doh.. should have read the comments before I made mine above. In addition to concrete, add rebar, or mix the concrete with reinforcing fibre (same stuff they use in concrete counter tops) to strengthen against shear loads.
Great idea! I've also seen a boxed steel piece (maybe 3x3 or 4x4...not sure) used as a vertical support for these gates. Not a pro, though.
@LonestarHawaiian, I agree with this. I had fixed a broken fence post on a chain link swing gate that broke at ground level by running a couple of pieces of rebar down the center of the post then filling with concrete. In your case I would probably use 3 pieces of rebar down the center of the post and filling with concrete. I would probably do that to both posts for the rolling gate and maybe even the couple of posts that you moved.
And as you fill them with concrete use a hammer drill with a super dull bit or a sawzall (reciprocating saw) to vibrate the post so the concrete can settle inside.
Welding tip, if you're using flux core ( I don't see gas) ; verify the welder is setup for DC Electrode Negative (DCEN). It will greatly reduce splatter.
I have lasfit and recon lights on my 6.7 powerstroke. Nothing bad to say
The gate looks great. You do know that now Mom is going to want an electric opener, right???
I'll never move into an area with an HOA again.
At Tractor Supply, you'll find Hobart anti spatter spray. Spray it on the tip and on what you're welding. You'll see that the spatter brushes or grinds off much cleaner.
Put concrete in the pole to stiffen it up. Great fence work!
I was about to say the same thing.
Can even drive a couple pieces of rebar in it then fill it with concrete!
Awesome work. So cool to see an actual homeowner working on their own projects. Super impressed.
A nice little trick I learned when I first started out welding. Is if your having trouble seeing your weld is to use soap stone to mark your weld path it makes the weld much brighter and helps you see the weld much better. Anyway great work!
Thanks!
good tip.. welding outside in direct sunlight always is a problem. light comming from the back of your mask causes your eyes to dialate, and cant see shit.
I actually have a Lasfit Air Inflator Prototype. Still waiting on them to send mine out. Makes complete sense why they would send you out one first. lol
Fill the hollow of those 2 corner gate posts with concrete mix it fairly thin and make a big funnl to get it in there . Holds up great to these Texas thunderstorms , the winds may rip the boards off but those posts will still be standing tall !
Really Nice job on the gate. I know all the Karen's wont be satisfied but at least you tried. LOL
When I was young, I thought people who live in an HOA were poor. Why would anyone live in a place like that unless you didn't have a choice and you could not afford something better. When I went to buy my first house at age 34, the realtor opened my eyes as to what an HOA really is. I told her to find me a nice house not in an HOA. That was too easy. I'm 55 now and still am unsure why anyone would live in an HOA. I do not see the benefit vs what I have....a really nice upper medium class neighborhood.
Very well done and beautiful. If you're worried about your post standing up to a wind, fill the post with cement. If you are using bagged concrete you may want to improve the strength of the mix by adding additional cement to the bag mix. The bag is usually mixed to 2,000 psi. To get it to about 4,000 psi add 2 full shovels of cement to the mix. This will increase the strength of the mix and in turn the post. Make sure to hammer the post as you put the concrete into the post. This will make sure that you don't have air pockets and the post is full from bottom to top.
This is the way posts are done in parking lots and around items that require protection in parking lots.
Looking good! I would recommend longer roller guides though. Doesn't look to be catching enough of the gate and if for some reason someone bumps that gate with a car, and a kid is around, it would be fairly easy to knock the gate over and land on said child. With longer rollers it will help hold the gate up.
Looking good!
There’s a Spaulding spray u can use for cleaner work. To much heat and dirty steel. Try trigger welding instead. If not turn your wire speed down and heat till you get it right. Your fillet is important. Got to bevel your steel more and or leave a bit of a gap when marrying your pieces so you have a little more penetration.
Thank you!
Thanks for the lasfit recommendation. Just ordered one!
Pull the top caps off the poles, will with concrete and rebar, that should reinforce it sufficiently.
Great looking gate! Make sure your kids understand the potential for pinched fingers/toes since they'll eventually think it's a fun ride when Dad's not around :)
I definitely recommend an electric opener. They’re not difficult to install, but the convenience factor will amaze you.
I waited years to install mine, and I wish I had done it right off the bat. You won’t know they world of difference it can make until you install it.
Just finished a Live Stream with "Don's Life" channel. I wish you could hold a Live Stream giving your viewers a chance to understand you and your channel more. Just my opinion. I have gone all the way back to the beginning of your videos Snorkeling and First Truck Modifications. Loyal fan.
The splatter has alot to do with being Flux core wire. If you ran gas, you usually get much cleaner welds
@LONESTAR HAWAIIAN I would also move some of that dirt back out. Dirt against wood will rot out the bottom of the fence. I made that mistake on mine. Great video on the gate.
I love Lasfit, still have their headlights on my 2012 silverado after 3 years.
Karens suck. Even if you wave at them they just stare and don't acknowledge you or anything... Need to mind their own business
So a couple years back I was lucky enough to buy some land and build my dream home in my 20’s and I built just a pull barn in the back this was 2019 I think I spent 15k for the building and 5k for other things like a garage door and concrete and labor (I did with my family and friends as much as we could) but it’s still holding up fine
Love the new shop from a man that started with no tools to a guy with a dream shop keep it up brother
Eh... Just depends.... Those metal poles staying in the ground more often than not depend on was the Concrete properly mixed before pouring and did you you give yourself enough depth to properly anchor into the ground. Some people either cheap out buying a short fence pole instead of getting the longer (usually 9-10 ft long) proper fence pole.
Me waiting for lone star to upload, was not disappointed by the amazing content 🤘🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Holy cow. Those welds suck. They’re about 10 times better than I could do. Congrats on another great job.
Like someone say - FILL THE POLE WITH CONCRETE
but - use glass or basalt fibers to make it stronger , add plasticizer so you will need less water to make it "flow" better (with less water it will be even stronger and less chance of cracks)
and MUST HAVE ( 2 above isn't as necessary)==== add at least 1 piece of rebar so it wont crack after some time and wont get pushed up if the pipe is smooth (it will be best to add 2-3 pieces of 4-8mm rebar / alternative will be piece of threded rod )
Strongest fence post...oil field pipe. My fence here in tornado alley has stood against 70-80 mph winds for 10+ years. Looking forward to that building being completed.
Hey here's the idea to fix your pole that don't or you worry they won't hold up give me a couple of bags of cement and pour it down the pole with a rebar in the middle rest of the fence will blow away but that pole Will Never Move thanks enjoying the videos !
you think a gate is all it'll take to fix your Karen problem, HAHAHA almost wanna subscribe just to see when the real issues start once you start the shop build
Nice work, it's a pity there's a Karen in the hood, atleast there's double protection.
And your keeping the peace.
Next time mount a 2x2 wood horizontally on the metal frame(top, middle and bottom), that way you can just screw the slats into wood, much easier and a lot faster than into metal.
A pro charger in that corvette would be awesome. Then to have your dad drive it…..I see it in the future, can’t wait for that video,
Great job Dude, dunno about your work boots though, hi vis I suppose
Cheers from Aus
Crazy that both top comments was exactly what I was going to suggest. Now for a new one, put a second rolling pin brace down further. If it should ever get bumped it might help keep it from falling over and hurting someone. Obviously closed and bumped is not as likely to come off track but at any other point you are relying on one pivot point, try and lessen that vulnerability. You could also just add a rail, think hand rail, onto that pad you poured that comes up about half way. The fence would catch it falling one way and the safety rail the other.
8:45 and 19:17 you can see the existing fence on the right has a slight gap between planks to allow the wood to expand and contract, clamping them tight at 16:57 won't leave any room for that...
Just remember this quote "A grinder and paint makes you the welder you ain't" a wise person
fill the pole with concrete. Also run the bottom track all the way across.
I have a Karen next door but his real name is Fidel aka the joto that's Spanish you'll have to look that up 😂
Funny you working on fence because I'm in the same process of doing lol
I would put some more wood planks on the inside of the fence cuz right now you can still see in from outside
Very nice my friend u got me around my home trying stuff lol😊
Due to my ocd, i would have to run that track the entire opening and to make sure a side wall of a tire would be slashed on it
If you cut the lumber and didn’t paint or seal the treated would it’ll rot sooner.
Sleeve the pole with a thicker wall pipe and slide it down inside. Or fill the pole with concrete.
Good job but you need to double slat the fence you can see right through the fence and gate😂👍
I feel bad for your Karen’s husband, he wants a shop like your but she will not allow it. We recently sold our house with a shop and we had so many husbands love the house only to be let down by there wives. No shops. And yes our new house has a shop and of course it’s bigger than the old one. Keep up the videos.
Turn down a house bc of a shop on the property? Divorce. lol
The house I bought after my divorce was listed as a 1 bedroom 3 bath 8 car garage. When I went to look at it turns out the 8 car garage was a 30x60 shop and a 40x60 storage shed. Shop was heated so I added central air to it.
That’s wild. I couldn’t imagine being with someone like that. My wife doesn’t give a single sht about having a shop. She sees it as a place where my son and I hang out. Most woman probably think if their husbands have a nice shop or garage they won’t spend any time in the house with them. Too difficult to control them that way.
Since we started our new shop in our new neighborhood there has been 4 new shops, don’t think we will have an issue with the new HOA. My wife doesn’t care about the shop but sometimes has an issue with what I bring in the shop.😂 like our old shop the new shop is also attached to the house. So she comes out to hang sometimes and sometimes just to bring lunch or dinner. God I love her😍
@@dustinauclaire1813 ya'll signed up to be part of an HOA? Yikes. I personally do not like them... Although I do live in one bc my area is dominated by neighborhoods under HOAs
Living in a HOA is a little taste of hell… But you made the best of it….
Maybe they were admiring! I know i would :)
Awesome work. Can't wait for your shop setup. Billy J.... Queensland, Australia.
It's about time we get some content lol I'm having withdrawals, and want to see how the shop is going
Do yourself a favor convert that welder to a mig welder
Awesome build 👍🏽👍🏽…Aloha bruddah🤙🏽🤙🏽
they male a 1/4 thick role fence pole looks like a regular 1
First rule buying construction materials supply houses only because they have higher quality standards
Noted!
I Raptor Lined my entire GMT900 Tahoe’s body. I did it 3 years ago and it’s still looking good. Cerakote Trimkote will keep it looking like it was just sprayed and each treatment lasts about 6 months at a whopping $17 bucks.
Are you going to have a electric gate opener to Hawaiian Aloha From Waianae Hawaii Keep Up the Great Content Aloha 💯🤙🤙🤙
Howzit! Eventually gonna get electric. Manual push for now! Chee 🤙🏽 🤙🏽West side
Fluxcore wire will splatter a lot. If you get argon gas and solid wire your welds will look pretty good
NICE JOB ON THAT ROLLING GATE!!!....GIT R DONE!...
Add some concrete mix into the pipe post to make it more solid.
Love this content, you sir are the DIY expert of all trades, except roofing obviously :) The only things I've been able to keep up with and dabble in are the lasfit turn signal and backup lights for my 2019 Silverado, I wasn't brave enough to install myself was the rough country light bar in the grill. Had that and a Go Rhino Grill and Push Bar installed by pros have made my Silverado an eye turning bad ass looking truck. Thanks for the inspiration!
Great job, idea for sliding gate and video!!
i saw you driving the other day!!!
When is the roof going on the new workshop?? I’m dying to see that get finished!!!! Fence looks great by the way!!!
16:15 Backed in like a champ. My wife scares me pulling in forward.
😂😂😂 dying
Now all you need is a automatic gate opener
This is great work! I need to do this to my vinyl fence. I was soft quoted 8 grand to replace a portion of my vinyl fence with a sliding gate like this. I said to the guy I could buy a tig welder and the metal and build it myself for less than a quarter of the price. Needless to say I never got the formal proposal from him.
you need to cap the ends off the tubing good job
Good job
as far as the post you are concerned about moving, ....why not add a support bracket on a 45 degree from top of the post your concerned about down to the bottom of next post that is holding up the gate. That should give it more support.
You better keep a good coat of paint on your 2x2 SQ tubing you welded up, or else your going to have rust stains all over your driveway. I would powdercoat it within next 5 years.
I also predict you will either make the gate electric in the future or just leave the gate open all the time, once the neighbors get used to seeing your massive shop. Because getting out of your car all the time to close the gate manually after you drive thru it, is going to get old real quick.
Pour concrete down the inside of the pipe
I see diy electric gate opener in the future
Should have contacted the student welders that helped Bunker Branding in Texas they did awesome work and are willing to help show you things as weld.
Outstanding. You have an impressive skill set for sure. Congrats.
My man has some soccer skills. Nice!
weld up the ends of the square tube or water will sit inside and rust from the inside out. also would extend the Vtrack all the way across the width of the gate so the end dose not wiggle or move if you extend it the full width you can fasten it down very well at either end without roll interupting.
I think you should stain your emblem into the concrete inside the shop. That would be sweet!
Keep your ground as close as possible to where youre welding. It will reduce the popping
Juat open the gate if a storm is coming
Friend of mine got a iron
Fence to cover his front yard, all his neighbors pissed. Even HOA tried to stop him, but it's 100% legal in Texas
Men these dude is crazy, live all he do men. Much love to u and your family brother.
Nicely done! I have the same issue with looky-loos... especially when I'm recording a video. 👀
“A very CHALLENGED Budget” 🤭😂
Compared to Whom, bro??.
Oh & that “pebble stuff” is known as “exposed aggregate”….. not hard to replicate - Not sure why whoever poured the additional concrete slab didn’t at least try to match it.
put a piece of drill pipe inside the pole.
My Hawaiian Brudda ... Luv da videos, I'm Texas born and raised but lived in Waianae (Makaha Valley) for 12 yrs. just moved back to Tx. 3yrs. ago....Keep on inspiring bro. Mahalo
Fence looks great now you might need to add a motor with remote control so that the white compound and wants to park behind thefense. She can press a button and open it. And also an idea when you get those texts, wins would be to open the game. It would be less of a sale effect on your post.
wow great job looks great.
I have a 6' fence around my back yard and could not find any 3/4"x6"x6' fence pickets myself that were any good and had to end up with 3/4"x6"x12' clear grade treated boards on sale for $5.00 each Years Ago and cut to fit.
Man I love this build series
Next to come, electric gate opener.
Great job, looks amazing. You definitely find a way to conquer every task! I just don't know where you get the Energy. Oh wait, you're still young. That's it.
Just a 12x6' folding gate with a 4' and 8' section. It was built right with 4x4's instead of 2x4's previously and really good hinges. Almost 8 years ago that cost me almost a $1000. In today's economy this gate was a great value and you learned new skills/things like pickets need to be cut to size.
A stick of rebar and concrete inside the pole should make it much stronger
I ABSOLUTELY Applaud you on the Awesome video on Building your privacy gate!! Nothing worse than no good nosy Aka, Karen's looking in to what is no business of theirs anyway!! You should be extremely proud . Looks professionally Done when I'm right beside you and macanicly inclined as well when it comes to doing this type of stuff. I have thought many times of putting a gate up in the front of my entrance as well but not just too sure how to tackle the situation. My buddy tried with two swinging gates using axecel hubs with bearings and he still hasn't finished them ., I positively like your idea a thousand times better and looks like something I can absolutely handle by myself. Thanks . Stay strong safe and Karen free!
Damn dude, that turned out great! 🤙
