    Ridge vent? Much easier to rip those sheets on the ground a couple inches short of the peak on both sides. They can be cut in place but most roofs don't have metal purlins.

    • @jabadoo5307
      @jabadoo5307 11 месяцев назад

      Agreed, ridge vents are the way to go, as long as you have appropriate ventilation through the soffits. Way better than those air hawks or whirlybirds.

  • @garyyuh7031
    @garyyuh7031 11 месяцев назад +17

    I think you should consider renting a scissors lift to get all the shingles and felt rolls up, stack on ridge and pull down as you need them. With all up, you stay atop roof for roofing installation, not up/down on/off.

    When your doing the roof. I would really consider buying a fall arrest harness. Walking on them boards while on the roof is dangerous. It will only take one slip to fall down and hit the ground. With a fall arrest harness will save your life. Just a thought

    Screw the contractors. You do an awesome on everything you do

  • @texassteelbuilt
    @texassteelbuilt 11 месяцев назад +6

    A few quick notes:
    - I didn’t notice any anti-roll purlin bracing. Was that supplied with the building?
    - You’ll want to confirm that the OSB is properly attached according to the nailing (screwing in this case) schedule. I want to say that you typically need fasteners every 6-12” which means you’ll have to add some additional supports between purlins
    - Same comment as previous gentleman with sheathing direction perpendicular to purlins
    - Pay special attention to the new purlin extensions on the back of the shop that you are adding with wood. That area has the highest wind load so you may need structural hardware for that connection.

    • @LonestarHawaiian
      @LonestarHawaiian  11 месяцев назад +2

      Thank you!
      For the purlin extensions on the rear, is there a specific type of bracket or clip you would recommend?

  • @Onlooker71
    @Onlooker71 11 месяцев назад +10

    Brutal watching you have to lift each piece of OSB yourself and go up and down from the roof. If you do the shingles that way, you’ve got my respect.

    • @DozIT

      Is it for sure shingles? I just assumed metal roof!

    • @alandeon
      @alandeon 11 месяцев назад

    Hey man you might want to double check but the orientation of your sheathing typically needs to run opposite the framing members. Your sheathing will have a strength axis that run the opposite direction of the framing.

    • @brettoneill4616
      @brettoneill4616 11 месяцев назад +10

      its a steel building, there's not additional structure needed, only whatever necessary to keep the actual roofing on the building. If it was a wood structure, then sure.

    • @TreanorBuiltLLC
      @TreanorBuiltLLC 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@brettoneill4616 not necessarily. The structure still needs shear support whether it be from steel roofing panels or the Osb he used prior to shingles. Furthermore the strength axis is for the compression strength of the sheet holding weight. Granted he is in Hawaii and has no snow load but even just walking you will feel a big difference in strength when oriented the correct way

    OK, it's your 1st tool belt. Here's a tip. . . The bags go in the FRONT. Also make sure you zip tape the seams on the OSB panels & lay down underlayment over that BEFORE you put on the shingles or whatever roofing you're using or you will have water leaks from rain & snow on your pretty vehicles. Regular OSB is NOT waterproof unless you use Advantek sheathing, which you did not to save money I will assume. I applaud you taking it on by yourself. But, shortcuts at this stage will come back to haunt you down the road.

    Great job overall!
    "Gable ends " the board behind the trim board is called a rake board / rafter / not a header .
    The material covering these framing member on the gable end in the vertical position is call a trim board/ rake board.
    Boards sticking out past gable wall to create overhang is an out looker.
    I don't know much about metal structures but should you have attached 2x4 material in the opposite direction of the steel frame . You then could have used nails to attach osb and probably used alot less self taping screws.
