    Wow reps reps reps. Great explanation. I think it's something extremely overlooked. I'm 40 now but when I was young I moved to a town next to a small mountain. I started snowboarding 4 hours almost every day instead of just weekends. Around the end of winter I met up with my old friends who taught me how to snowboard but were only ridding on the weekends. I will always remember their cheers as I landed a 540 on a 40' jump. I was so proud.

    Some of the best riders i knew came from places that got a lot of snow, but no vert. They'd session rails at rec centers and schools and ride off the roofs on their houses after big dumps.

    • @ShredSchool1
      @ShredSchool1  2 года назад

      Totally. We used to jump off roofs of the grocery store and hit the handrails at our school track until we got kicked out

  • @opgamer9296
    @opgamer9296 2 года назад +2

    Hey uh what happens if my lapping is like 20 mins should I just walk up the mountain?. The place I’m going to go to for this winter season only has one park with like 4 features and you haft to go down a long run to get to the chairlift then go on flat ground for a bit to get to the park.

    • @ShredSchool1
      @ShredSchool1  2 года назад +3

      Yeah I forgot to mention - the ultimate accessibility for this is hiking. In high school we would just hike a jump or a rail over and over again. Sometimes I wouldn't ride the lift even once while at the mountain as our hill was very small (PA) and the park features were right at the bottom
      That being said we also built jumps on golf courses, fabricated rails for backyards etc... so you don't always have to go to the mountain. You can hike anywhere there is snow and a feature

    It's curious how many places and people emphasize snowboarding skills, focusing primarily on parks and jumps. There's surprisingly little discussion about improving overall riding abilities and mastering turns, despite the intricate details and techniques involved, which are very challenging to perfect in their own ways...

    • @ShredSchool1
      @ShredSchool1  11 месяцев назад

      Learning how to ride park will by default make you better at those things

    • @anais4766
      @anais4766 10 месяцев назад

      @@ShredSchool1 I don't agree with your generalization, as it only benefits those with ample time who don't mind wasting it without a clear direction, or those who simply enjoy park riding and consider everything else a bonus. While it's true that skills transfer between disciplines at a high level, claiming that being a good park rider automatically makes you better in other areas has its limits and can be a very inefficient approach to those whose interst lies in other areas, and don't get much on snow time, say many casual riders whom would be lucky to clock in average of 10 - 20 days per season. Concentrating on specific skills to sever one's genuine interest is key to smooth and effective advancement of casual riders, and is vital for achieving mastery at the professional level
      For someone passionate about freeride, downhill racing, carving, or backcountry snowboarding, dedicating time to park riding might not align with their true interests. Telling them just to practice park as it will make you a better rider by deafualt isn't really a good idea. It could lead to wasted time and unnecessary injuries in areas they aren't even passionate about. It's important to acknowledge individual interests and target skill training.
      I understand where you're coming from, but just can't find myself agree with your statement. For those interested in aspects of snowboarding beyond the park, what you're saying is not a cost-effective or efficient approach. And not many good tips in those are shared around online, which is understandable, must be more people into park than not. However for you park riders to talk as if park is everything is annoying sometimes. No, park is not everything, and it's certainly not be-all and end-all, it doesn't automatically make you a good rider in other areas, although it can be beneficial in some ways.

      Have never tried it but looks cool and would love to. I heard it was super dangerous, can you speak to this at all? Like when you wreck it's just brutal

    • @flisms
      @flisms 2 года назад +1

      @@ShredSchool1 - I wouldn't call it super dangerous. Wrecking on cement definitely hurts more than snow. As long as you don't go out trying to run before you can crawl...Plenty of fun can be had at low speeds and low risk. As you up your speed and start trying tricks, risk of wrecking goes up. There are guys (and gals) out there shredding hard and sometimes slamming hard, but I don't think they are seeing any more pain than a park skater, for example. Short answer, try it, start slow...you are a dope snowboarder and will likely pick it up quickly. It is mind boggling how similar they are. Freebording truly gives you that same amazing feeling snowboarding provides...all year round.

      Yes, great question. For high frequency/dedicated park lift:
      Colorado: Copper mountain, Breckenridge, Keystone (if they still have a park this year) and Eldora
      Utah: Woodward Park City, Park City Mountain Resort, Brighton
      California: Mammoth, Northstar at Tahoe, Bear, Boreal
      Oregon: Timberline Spring Park Laps

    • @ShredSchool1

      It's more about the effort and timing, doesn't matter too much but a longer tail might provide a little more snap than say a pow board set back with almost no tail

    Well, to be good you don’t have to hit rails, it’s how you handle cliffs, I live in bigsky so Ik what cliff jumps are😂 the parks here are pretty big but not like the east side as you said, but to be more of an expert. Bigsky the way

    • @ShredSchool1
      @ShredSchool1  2 года назад

      Usually if someone is really good at park they can learn to ride cliffs fairly quickly, while if someone is good at cliffs but can't ride park they often have a long road ahead of them.
