As someone who bought this exact same setup as his first snowboard I'll throw my 2 cents in. I'm 6'8" and a size 13 shoe, though at the time I thought I was a 14. I bought the 170 W (at least it's somewhere in that range) with the 14 boot. When I got it, there was an ungodly amount of toe drag. After 2 trips I bought new size 13 boots so that they'd fit better and because the boots were trash (as you all saw.) After getting new boots the board rode okay. I learned my first indy on it, which was cool. But as I got better I noticed that it didn't hold it's edge well, even as my form got way better. An alright board for beginners to be honest, but you NEED different boots.

It's my first season with frequent access to the mountain and I thrifted a full setup for $120. I rode it a few days until I was sure I wanted to board and then just got nice bindings/boots. I think as long as a board is the right size and decent condition its fine. New boots were a big upgrade though.

I just buy used. I spent 120 for a 145 lamar with bindings. At that price there's no stress sending jumps over rocks or hitting side hits on non-powder days. I got new 150 dollar boots from my dad but my buddies have been running used boots for a long time and they've gotten some good deals. Plus when you buy the no name actually eating a rock or a tree is more likely to cause cracks or even snap the board.

That is kinda what I did, personally what I would suggest doing is after a season or when you feel comfortable get a new pair of bindings and replace those. The bindings I had on my board were almost identical to the one in the video and was the next obvious weak-point. The board is honestly good to keep for a good while if you are fine just replacing the bindings with a good new set, my next upgrade is a new board as I have a really nice pair of boots and bindings with my cheap board. Just keep in mind that you will have to take care of the board yourself (Waxing, and sharpening the edges). Just wanted to give my thoughts on this, and what I am doing myself.

I started with a used Burton Custom board that had Nitro bindings with 150 Euro...
Let's say I learned the hard way with that board...
Anyway, better to start with used boards than cheap ones

Same. The usual snowboarder/skier goes into the mountains for a week. It does not worth it to put 1k+ into new euipment for just putting it into the shelf for 359 days a year. My used Burton custom X cost around 150€, my bootes and binding additional 400 as i always wanted to have new boots.
Thats the best way for those who ride just a week in a year in my opinion.

honestly its probably cheaper to have a new one of these delivered to ski destination than rentals, or paying to fly with board.. risk losing it..etc.. doesn't look bad

Nice thing about flexible boots (I still have mine from the mid-'90's) is that you can keep them on and drive home in them!
I've also switched between the old flexible boots and newer stiff ones within the same weekend on the slopes, and I've found that the soft boots give more control, and more comfort when stopping for lunch and whatnot, but are fatiguing on the slopes especially when riding on the toe side. The stiff boots obviously give more support and less fatigue, but seem less responsive and wooden, especially when switching from the soft boots.

This Video was dope especially the Giveaway!
I first got introduced in the sport back in 2019, even before officially boarding the place i was staying had a cheap board and work boots and started off with a little slope and then months later boom actually getting on the bunny slopes. Years passed my friends got into it and i wanted to go with them. Just last Year i got the Aura Pro2s, Entry Level helmet, pants with my own money and stuff ive been given were goggles and gloves.
As of right now im super hyped to get back out there!! My car is dialed, got my own board/bindings, the anytime pass Big Bear, and the whole WTAPS x Vans Snow Kit oh and also two GoPros.
    IM SO READYY AHHHH!!!

If you can go into a ski shop and try boots on. That is the best way! The only gear I think you should go into a shop for. Even if you are going on a trip. Buy them on the trip. Getting the wrong boots will ruin your day, trip, and season!

honestly, I can't understand how with the new models just the board is priced at 700 or 800 bucks without something special like full carbon top layer or some fancy core. it's just your standard ageold setup with a wooden core, some glass/carbon fibre strips for tension and different flex/stiffness areas, some edges and a top and base layer. sure, you are also paying for the development that was involved and some testing of new ideas but since a few years now there wasn't really a huge revolution in board-technologies so it's mostly just the same thing from the year before with a new design. I have 4 or 6 boards (2 "normal" ones, 2 splits and 2 90s one that don't really count) and all of them do exactly what they are supposed to do while none of them cost me more than 200 Euros. just buying the model from the pre-season usually cuts the price by almost half so either buy those or buy used ones from the start because there are tons of almost fresh boards, it's easy to tell if they are still good or completly shot and if we are honest with ourselves: first day out with a new, mint fresh board you are bound to hit a rock anyways 😂
