Just took my 16 year old . And after the day ,she dominated her back edge. I could feel a low abdominal pull , I was thinking I gotta do more stretching, I'm going get back into yoga . I was really good in my 20s. That's solid advice yoga and core.
At 51 this month, I'm still sending inverted airs while maintaining a solid routine of weight training, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and mental fitness. With a keen sense of body awareness honed over years of boarding since 1989, I've even had the pleasure of meeting Tony Hawk twice - once in Long Beach and another time at the US Open. Although I haven't delved into yoga yet, I'm contemplating it to enhance my flexibility. Currently, I find myself boarding in five different countries with my base of Germany, and I absolutely love the experiences this channel brings. During the off-season, I switch gears to ride my Onewheel and explore the trails on my enduro bike. Life is exhilarating!
Weight training is crazy good for trying to learn new things. Off season for me is motorcycle season, and weight training has saved me pretty much every time i failed a trick or did a slip and slide. Shred happy 🤙
Good advice. 68 year old shredder here. Skateboarded since metal wheels, started weight training in college, still workout every other day. Stretching, absolutely. Diet also plays a big part. Didn’t hurt that I have been a surfer for 60 years. Here are the keys: power, grace, flow, rhythm, and style. Rip it up😎
Man this is a great video. I'm just now in physio from a hip operation 6 weeks ago. There's so much work to do! But I realise how weak certain stabilising muscles have always been, and it's limited my riding and my tennis equally. Thanks for this video, real motivation to put the work in 👍
Hi, this was one of my favorite videos on this channel ever :) Im a 15 year old boy that lives in Sweden. I was checking out Shred School and got really excited from all the reviews and all the material you get. As I don’t get up in the mountains many times a season (because it’s so expensive). But then I saw the prices for shred school and they are sadly to expensive for me. So I was wondering if you could offer me som sort of discount. I would be very grate full.
100%. I am 44 and just started last season. I was doing yoga last year but not for too long. Just got out for the first time this year (after a year and half at least of yoga and core) and it is amazing. I still need more “basics” training runs but it’s night and day. Going to start some minor skating again as well. Thanks!!!
Yeah I just went snowboarding for the second time. I want to keep trying, but as of now I cannot do it lol. Skating is so much easier to me, that I can do still. Got nollie flips back last time I skated but I haven’t done it in like a month. Snowboarding? Way harder and tougher on the body IMO, maybe it’s just because I’m so new to it.
I can also recommend Mountainbike riding. It’s maybe not as close as Skating to snowboarding but it gives you good endurance, strength and if you’re into Jumps and tricks you can use the same approach as you use for Snowboarding. ( break the trick in small steps and train these first. Than connect all parts together to the Trick )
I got like 30% better in snowboarding in an instance. All I changed was my set-up. Especially the back side of my bindings, I changed them from straight up to an angle which meant I had bended knees the whole time. This small change was a huge difference. For years I was stuck at a certain level, I couldnt get faster etc etc. But after this their was nothing holding me back anymore.
This ! I was better when I was a teen because I was riding much more often, and taking lessons. After a big break I went back to snowboarding and felt horrible. I tried my best and it wasn't it ! Only to tell you I met someone who helped me with the board set up and I got my feelings back INSTANTLY! I was amazed wtf. Setting up your snowboard is huge in terms of how you feel and muscle memory. Angle on spoilers, STANCE, are HUGE. I find angles less impacting (at my level). But too short on stance and spoiler at 0 and I couldn't remember how to ride!
I started skateboarding which I attribute to snowboarding seeming so easy when I first started. My first day I was hitting jumps. I would've hit rails but they didn't have many in 2001.
Wow, seeing all the oldheads in the comments is legit giving me hope. Our culture’s obsession with youth convinced me that, at 26, my best shredding days were behind me, as if I missed the window. Thanks for this video and to the other boarders out there getting after it💪
Well im 30 and i just started skating and since its about to be winter i want to stay on a board so im picking up snowboarding i hope this skill transfers over onto a snowboard i know im not gunna be good right away but im hoping i can stay on the board 😊
Turning 42 next week. Been skating since a kid, but mostly flat. I do regular bouldering, where flexibility also is very important. Dream of doing a backflip in the park. I can do one on an airbag no problem, but I don't dare trying it mostly because I can't seem to get confident and controlled straight airs on bigger jumps.
started skating to teach my girls how to skate its been 30 years since I picked up a skateboard, just got back from Breckenridge for a 2 day trip and man I my riding substantially improved but I didn't understand why till a I saw this video!
going off your last off season training video im thinking weight training/mobility training, trampolining, and skateboarding. these have all helped me so much in improving my riding during the off season
I am 43 and have been skiing since 5 years old. Got on some weight over the years. 2 years ago, started training, eating better and had to buy a longboard to go downhill, since there was no skiing in the winter of 2020/2021 and I missed it a lot (also mid life crises, to be honest). In january 2022 I stepped on a snowboard for the first time. Took me 2 day to learn it, all alone, no instructors, no friends. Everything in this video sounds legit
awsome tips i just got hurt ripped my butt muscle XD i dont go to the gym at all so i think i gone make that move 2 not get hurt this bad agian im out for 2 weeks already cant snowboard with this pain......... SO THX love the tips
With me becoming a goalie in soccer this year I’ve noticed I can take hard falls and I’ve gained some muscle so I’m hoping this will help with snowboarding
I agree 100% with all of these. I owned a trampoline when I was just starting out and it helped a lot. Id like to try the yoga and see what happens. I know a lot of guys who do it and they are amazing snowboarders. 🤘🤘
So, 27 in Utah. Currently year 3 of snowboarding. Doing lots of these, but I live a hour from the mountain. Also, there's no trampoline parks this side of the mountain. Any suggestions on how to get more reps in? I currently use a balance board and evaluate film, yoga, etc.... Just missing those reps. Holding a 9-5 makes it hard to travel to the resort. Thanks!
Start skateboarding, it makes the biggest difference Try to find a neighbor with a trampoline or buy one yourself. Post in snowboard groups on FB and see if anyone there has a tramp close to where you live And of course... if you REALLY want it, quit your job and move to the resort and get a job online so you can snowboard everyday.
Trampoline and a mini ramp makes sense for sure. To the question at the end of the video I like to work out so I can stay on the mountain as long as possible. Trying yoga and implementing more stretching sounds like fun to be able to reach more grabs. Preparing for the season I like to watch snowboard clips which give me motivation and trick guides to figure out what I should try to learn next.
I can't agree more with #3 I'm not a body builder I do powerlifting style training and I can be on the slopes all day long no rest needed and I'm 40yo ;-)
i should get into yoga more. i do strength training daily. but ive been approaching it from more of a bodybuilder style training than powerlifting style for a long time..
Bahahahha….I grew up skateboarding, doing gymnastics, jumping on a trampoline, also doing spring board and platform diving as well as other sports like ski racing and snowboard racing.
Do you still squat and deadlift during the season, Ed? I found it got in the way, so i stopped because even when i was strong i needed several days to fully recover.
Only if I'm lifting basically every day and snowboarding 1-2x/week When it reverses, I stop lifting all together because I get too sore. Went to Japan for a month last year and didn't lift. At home I try to squat every single day, at least light weight, so I never get too sore and it works out ok because I don't ride everyday
Because that is what I had. Sadly, I lived in Georgia, so no snow for me. And snowboarding wasn't allowed in most of the resorts north of me back in 1986...
I'm guessing it's given away, but for fun... miniramp for a skateboard trampoline? Edit....Hell yeah! Lol I was super unsure about the tramp but I knew about the ramp. I remember thinking, "Well I'd kick ass too if I could afford the space and ramp!" So not true...
You will be super good at switch on a snowboard. Two of my best friends do this too, and they are both great at both. You are all loco 😜 I will never understand why not the same stance
I just turned 52 and am a better shredder than ever because of yoga and core strengthening.
Awesome
You ice bathing too?
@@Nuttyirishman85 haven't gotten in to it yet, you?
@@ShredSchool1 Yeah, definitely. Between climbing and snowboarding, my body needs it. Wouldn’t mind trying yoga, if it will help my back.

in my 40's and by far the most important is stretching and working out. Gonna have to start doing some yoga.

I’m going with a diving board / trampoline & some a good old fashion lawn.

I just started doing a switch day. I ride the whole day backward. As well as I can anyway. It’s making me more comfortable landing backward.
Shaun white had a trampoline to build the airborne confidence and a skate ramp and board bc the benefits of transferable skills are insane
going off your last off season training video im thinking weight training/mobility training, trampolining, and skateboarding. these have all helped me so much in improving my riding during the off season

bro my local tamp park USED to HAVE tramp bords, then they got bought by skyzone and dont allow them anymore let alone have them

Trampoline and some kind of balance board?
Close!

Trampoli and Mini Ramp
Definitely a trampoline.
Maybe a quarter pipe for the second thing?
Because that is what I had. Sadly, I lived in Georgia, so no snow for me. And snowboarding wasn't allowed in most of the resorts north of me back in 1986...
I don't have a secons guess but my first one is a trampoline tbh
I do swimming 4 times a week gymnastics 2 times a week badminton 1 times a week climbing 1 times a week and drumming 1 times a week.
Agree w everything. Also like include the right diet. This will rocket fuel all of this.
trampoline and skate park
Ayy nice vid
Gracias 🙏
Mini ramp and trampoline
I got it right
Skateboard and trampoline

going to guess trampoline / quarter pipe ?
yep makes sense. i would also like to add "OneWheel" is amazing for snowboard training :)
5:31 Oh
im guessing he had like a trampoline and a snow cannon
My guess is a small hill, home made ramp and a rail for Tony Hawk
I’ll add repetition. Pick a trick and do on every jump for a full day. And ride switch as much as possible as soon as you can link turns non switch
I guess Shawn had a Barrel and a wooden board :D
Good guess!
A mega ramp😂
1. Thing snow
Trampoline
Foam pit

trampoline and... oh I'm so torn. I swear he had a halfpipe or skake park. edit: ahem: mini ramp. 😆
i think shaun white had a trampoline and skate boarding

i also skateboard and i have a tramp

Half pipe and trampoline
🎉
My guesses:
1.) A trampoline
2.) A Half Pipe/half half pipe
Yo! I got it right! Haha.
Do I get a season pass to shred school? 😊
I think Shaun White has a Trampoline and a skate ramp
I was right
a jump and a railing
I'm guessing it's given away, but for fun...
miniramp for a skateboard
trampoline?
Edit....Hell yeah! Lol
I was super unsure about the tramp but I knew about the ramp. I remember thinking, "Well I'd kick ass too if I could afford the space and ramp!" So not true...
Trampoline
Gonna guess a trampoline and a mini ramp.
That’s funny. I guessed it in the same order it’s listed in the video.
Using my drone to see if my neighbors has trampoline
Haha love it
The only one I don't do is yoga.
My neighbor has a trampoline.
I have a miniramp.
I lift weights.

Awesome, what size mini?
@@ShredSchool1 16ft long . 8ft wide and 4ft high ... And after winter passes I'm going to resurface it
